That made me vomit, literally. But I want you to know I just held my pups close to my heart, for you.

Kind of my point about why the flag raised by potential testimony based on recovered memory might not be looking so very red to the people who know whether there's going to be any.

Ironically I am holding out judgment here. Maybe just because I want so badly to see this successfully prosecuted. Could be a bit of a game-changer in the "repressed memories" debate. Is that still happening? Sigh.

But suffice it to say - if they are found guilty, I hope they rot in hell. Or worse. Maybe OP-ED can release some demons on them?

Nicole, who says she left the Mormon Church before she turned 20, says this time her parents pushed the bishop to call police, but says that they back down after the church responded by threatening to excommunicate her family.

huh. Why am I not surprised?

lightningBugout, I have a feeling that the repressed memory debate will continue as long as there are powerful perps who are determined to cover up their crimes :( None of my memories of abuse involve them (in the strictest sense of the definition), since the memories have always been available to me--if I was willing to look at them. Which was almost never. Yet I've been accused of making them up or confabulating or of having had a therapist implant them. The abusers have finally found a way to publicly invalidate their victims that sometimes even stands up in court if a FMSF hired gun like Loftus shows up and gives "expert testimony" with the right pseudo-scientific psychobabble.

sw, I cried when I read about your favorite dog's death  I'm so sorry that I have no words to accurately express my sorrow and anger. I have a feeling that a lot of people here who love animals now mourn for her too. Perhaps it's partly your pain and anger over that loss that's given you such amazing courage to stand up and be heard now. Each time you send a letter off to try to make things better, it's a memorial to that loss, among many others. Anger isn't always a bad thing--it can be directed into good works and into a drive to research, record and remember abuse.

11 new sex counts in Mohler case
Sean Comer, News Reporter
11-23-2009

Three of the six men accused of over half a decade of sex crimes will face an additional 11 total counts, based on further victim statements.

Lafeyette County Prosecutor Kellie Wingate-Ritchie filed the charges based on statements by two more children of Burrell E. Mohler Jr., 53, Independence, against Mohler Jr.; their grandfather, Burrell E. Mohler Sr., 77, Independence; and Jared L. Mohler, 48, Columbia.

Jared Mohler now faces an addition felony use of a child in a sexual performance count. He now faces a maximum 89 years in prison if convicted on all five various felonies with which he’s been charged.

Mohler Jr. faces felony counts of rape and use of a child in a sexual performance, worth a combined additional 22 years imprisonment. He already faces 59 years on five assorted felony counts.

Mohler Sr. now faces an additional five felony counts of rape; one new felony sodomy count; and two new felony use of a child in a sexual performance counts. Those charges could add a maximum 104 years onto the potential 189 year sentence he already faces on 13 other charges.

The statements from two more daughters, now 28 and 31, to Independence police shed new light on what happened as far back as 1981 (around age six for the youngest victims) and as recently as 1991 (around age 12, for some of the oldest, by the time the abuse stopped.)

They include at least one fearful incident when the children attempted escaping their grandfather, father and three uncles’ abuse. It also sheds light on incidents leading to the charges against a sixth man charged with two felony rape counts, Darrel Mohler, 72, Silver Springs, Fla.

The sisters decided to try running away from Mohler Sr.’s 3607 Old Concord Rd. home in Bates City in 1988. Some had buried in mason jars written accounts of what they’d endured. The five original men charged had told them that if they wrote down what happened and buried the letters on the property, the memories would go away.

Authorities have found buried remains of those jars and letters in their search of the property.

They made it to a neighbor’s house before returning home, One of the latest two victims to come forward told police in Nov. 12. Mohler Jr. punished his daughters by making them watch him sodomize their only brother.

Their brother had once accidentally unearthed some of the jars while playing outside. Two of the girls urged him to rebury them quickly.

During the summer of 1986, one of the two new witnesses recalled, Jared Mohler and Mohler Sr. took her to a field on the property. They then forced her into performing an act of beastiality. That same summer, Mohler Sr. raped her repeatedly, she said.

She also recalled both she and a now-28-year-old sister who has already come forward with allegations of being raped in a van on several occasions. Summers were the worst because they spent so much time at Mohler Sr.’s country home, where they said Mohler Sr. raped them more frequently than his four sons.

Two of the women told police of a 1987 sleepover at another farmhouse in that area. They remember being excited, jumping on the bed. Then, they said, Darrel Mohler arrived and raped one of them.

In another incident that year, Mohler Sr. and Jared Mohler took girls into separate rooms. When Mohler Sr. rejoined Jared Mohler after raping one of the girls in another room, he found Jared Mohler had not had sex with the niece he’d taken yet. Mohler Sr. then took her to another room himself.

Mohler Sr. and his sons are all scheduled for Dec. 2 and 3 court appearances in Lafayette County. Darrel Mohler announced Monday he would not fight extradition from Florida back to Missouri.

Hey. Remember Jeffrey Lundgren, leader of a small cult, including a family of five whom he and his other 11 or so followers murdered?

He grew up in that very same church. According to Wiki (at the link):

Lundgren was born in Missouri, U.S. and grew up as a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (RLDS Church). According to his allegations (supported by some of his former neighbors) he was severely abused as a child, particularly by his father. His mother reportedly did not defend him. Lundgren was, by most accounts, a loner when he was in middle and high school. He became an expert hunter when he began to spend time with his father as a teenager. The pair would go on hunting trips, and Lundgren became a gun expert, learning shooting and maintenance techniques.

Lundgren enrolled at Central Missouri State University, and he spent time at a house that was specially built for RLDS youth. While at the house, he became friends with Keith Johnson and Alice Keeler.

Keeler, who had been abused by her father as well,
quickly bonded with Lundgren, and the two became lovers. By 1969, Keeler was pregnant with Lundgren's baby. The couple married in 1970, and Lundgren enlisted in the U.S. Navy.

They have a colorful history. For example, their last Prophet-President, who was the first Prophet-President in RDLS/Community of Christ Church history not to be a direct lineal male descendant of Joseph Smith, resigned in 2004, citing undisclosed inappropriate personal choiced. After making Community of Christ what I think must be the only evangelical church in America the scriptures of which include the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and Divinely Inspired occasional additions made by their Prophet-Presidents that welcomes LBGT members and sanctions the performance of gay marriage. I don't see any negative accusations about him, accept for being too liberal, and only one site, run by a lunatic, that says he himself was gay. One sort of gets that impression from the official non-statements around the time of his resignation, but they don't say it directly, and indirectly, insofar as they seem to be saying anything, they universally seem to be sending not-that-there's-anything-wrong-with-that signals.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. It's just not what I expect to hear from a Latter-Day-Saints splinter group in Missouri.

Anyway. There's some admittedly rather slight evidence, via Lundgren, that child abuse may be a little bit of a tradition at the CoC. Thought I'd mention it.

Child incest pamphlets found in second search of Mohler property
By DONALD BRADLEY
The Kansas City Star

A second police search of the Independence property of Burrell Mohler Sr., charged with an array of sexual offenses against some of his grandchildren, turned up child incest pamphlets.

Also seized were more adult movies, including a pornographic DVD about having sex with “Grandma & Grandpa,” according to new documents released today.

Other items listed on search warrant affidavits include what authorities are calling “incest porn” as well as homemade videotapes, a Focus on the Family film series, and a Book of Mormon Stories for Children.

That and other Mormon literature taken from a house and a shed indicate that some of the materials could belong to Mohler’s oldest son, Burrell “Ed” Mohler Jr., who also has lived in Independence.

While the senior Mohler and most of his sons belonged to the Community of Christ Church, Ed Mohler, 53, joined the Mormon church in 1992 but was excommunicated in 2007 for personal conduct unrelated to child abuse.

Mohler, 77, is in jail in Lexington, Mo., along with his four sons and a brother from Florida. Authorities say the men carried out years of sexual abuse on children as young as 5 in the extended family. Darrel Mohler is being held in Florida. In all, the Mohler men face 42 charges.

The search of Mohler’s home in the 1300 block of Dodgion Street was conducted Friday by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities believe some of the alleged assaults against the Mohler children in past decades were photographed or taped..

The first search of Mohler’s home turned up incest magazines, computers, tapes and recording equipment. Similarly, a search of a Columbia, Mo., house belonging to his son Jared Mohler, 48, also turned up computers, tapes and video equipment .

The other sons are David Mohler, 52, of Lamoni, Iowa, and Roland Mohler, 47, of Bates City, Mo.

Warrant Return Reveals New Morbid Details In Mohler Case

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- A warrant return from Burrell Mohler Jr.'s ex-wife's house, exclusively obtained by KCTV5, has revealed a new set of morbid details about the murder allegations surrounding the sex case with Burrell Mohler Sr. and five other Mohler family members.

The search warrant return from Jackson County reveals jewelry removed from the alleged victims to make their bodies harder to find and codes that could identify people.

Burrell Mohler Sr.'s Independence home on South Dodgion Road has been subject to multiple searches since his arrest two weeks ago, but the most recent list of items seized came from Burrell Mohler Jr.'s ex-wife's house extends beyond the sexually explicit materials previously removed.

The list on the warrant return includes things like wooden boxes of jewelry, a Louis L'Amour book, and a wooden box containing paper with the words "Jeff-Alabama."

Some of the young women who reported childhood sexual abuse at the hands of the Mohlers told police Burrell Mohler Sr. and his oldest son told them they removed jewelry from murder victims, search warrants have revealed. The victims said it was "so that the bodies could not be found with metal detectors."

In a search warrant, one of the alleged victims described pieces of paper previously seized "as 'codes' used to identify names and locations."

The woman remembered the codes being written inside Louis L'Amour books, according to the search warrant.

Also newly released was information about a sudden search Tuesday of a shed on the property of Burrell Mohler Jr.'s ex-wife, where authorities seized a journal and an ax.

An investigator said they've yet to read through the journal, because they are still bogged down with all the video tapes taken in Friday's search.
