Wow, you Canadians actually watch Atom Egoyan movies? I've always wondered who exactly did.

Well we're quiet, dull, slow-talking, like barren landscapes, transgressive sex adumbrated by thoughts of death, and generally feel ashamed and furtive because of repressed memories of some terrible crime which may or may not have really happened.

No, wait, that's just me.

Hmmm,

I have some relos from Fiji living in Canada. Some I haven't seen for decades, but who always ask me to come visit... I always said maybe one day.

The only thing is your summer is my winter and thats footy season, and next year might be my last one, or 2nd last at the most then its definitely it. Then again this year might be the last one too... in which case next year... I dunno. I'm definitely thinking about it.

Any chance we can make this a sticky thread?

In an alternate reality,I've booked a month off work and sold all my trinkets to attend.
In this world,I don't have a pot to piss in,but its a year away, and miracles can happen.
If I could make it,I would be running on a shoestring budget.
So how about a rough guide to crossing Canada/staying in Toronto for noobs?I'd like to put money into 'mom and pop' type shops and hotels - anyone got a hotel/holiday shack/grocery shop/vehicle hire company in Toronto?Places to avoid/must see?
I hope at the very least we can organise a web broadcast/DVD of any lectures.I'd chip in cash for that.
I'd like to suggest David Hawkins from Abeldanger as a possible guest.Hawkins reckons on a '911 remote control jets in a wargame gone live to cash in on catastrophe bonds' scenario. Also claims that politicians are unwittingly filmed at snuff movie parties for blackmail purposes - the pigfarm in canada where human remains were found is allegedly one such venue.
Also, how about getting hold of a sympathetic cinema buff with a projector and showing an RI themed movie.I've never seen Winter Kills, for instance.Anyone out there got a print and a big projector?Maybe hold the event in a cinema theatre?

Sticky request seconded.

I would think this has a bigger chance of getting off the ground if it's expanded into a Trine Day conference and actually gets marketed out there on the well-trafficked boundary sites like PP and ATS. Maybe get Jeff onto Noory's C2C?

I see a multi-day event with a formal citizen's inquiry type of conference during the day, featuring the likes of Levenda, Sutton, Griffin, Hicks and Hopsicker, which turns less formal each night with art/film/protest showings/doings and/or extended pub and living room meetups/smoke-ups/trip-ups. Ample opportunities for solutionistic creative collaborations alongside nervous-energy-grounding mood-lightening of every sort. I, for one, get a little shaky when there's too much high-vibe and/or high-stakes convo floating around me, but the comraderie and head-trippiness is worth the potentially toxic co-exposure, i'd say.

If there were sufficient ticket sales to warrant, I could easily see having multiple simultaneous session tracks for the various areas of interest, but with a loosened grip on schedule adherence to permit extended Q&A when the synergy (or anarchy) runs high. But maybe that's best left for the 2nd or 3rd annual. It would be enough at first, I would think, to have a unitary conference lasting at least 2 days (and nights) with even just one long morning and one afternoon session each day.

Scope and duration depends on the ability to attract capital, and if that's not going to be 100% private donation and ticket pre-sales, then we're talking sponsors (or exhibitors?), I suppose. But who?

I've made inquiries about a couple of venues - U of T's Innis Town Hall and Palmerston Library Theatre, for those who know Toronto - and they have that capability. If it gets realized I'd want a multimedia, art-friendly event.

And since this has been bumped, I've been wondering if it would be more practical for most RIers if this actually came off in the States, like say NYC.

While that would be a whole lot closer for me personally, and a lot cheaper as I can stay with friends, NYC is a pricey place to be, if economics factor into practicality.

It would be kind of cool to if projectors were set up that scrolled through RI threads like perpetual marquees to give context to themes at the conference. Maybe have certain categories of threads running in areas that deal with those themes?

I'd suggest doing a event charter or conference statement so if someone who has views that are not inline with the majority of attendees (neo-nazi, etc) the media doesn't cherry pick that person as representative of the whole conference. (Or if they do you at least have something countering it.)

Oh and we should get Leonard Cohen to perform.

I'd definitely we interested in attending wherever it was.

I think this would be a wise move.

Before i saw psynapz's Omaha suggestion, I was thinking Chicago, for its central location and its being an Amtrak train hub. People on either coast could have gotten a headstart on socializing by meeting up on Amtrak.

I think Florida is the obvious place to commune on the nature of deep politics and all things people intend to hide.

There's the Hopsicker/Naples-Venice area. Levenda hails from Miami. Ed Haslam and Judith Vary Baker are Gulf Coast residents. Then, there's NASA, Cassadega and the most terrifying place of all -- Disney World.

In looking for a venue, the state is your oyster -- you can't swing a dead prostitute without hitting a hotel with ample meeting areas.

I took the Amtrak down to Seattle for the RI art show, I would definitely recommend it as a way to travel.

How about Clearwater, Florida? :panic: We could check out the big spill and all get audited on the same trip.
