Traders and merchants. Men who were willing to brave Chinese soldiers. Families who made it out to the refugee camps. Families on the border regions who saw what was coming.

Also, people with some degree of control over their next reincarnation.

While I admit this is an assumption I was thinking more along the lines of the wealthy who could read the writing on the wall. That being said.......I think you're right about divorcing the spiritual technology from it's self appointed masters. However, to be fair you must do this across all religions. Scientology, the Koran and even the Latin Mass are all powerful in their own way. It is my opinion that this is what causes them to create such loyalty amongst their devotees, despite the sometimes harsh restrictions placed upon said followers.

I hope I didn't give you the impression that I believe Buddhism is bad, cause that is completely the opposite of how I feel. I'm just not sympathetic to the Dalai Lama. I am sympathetic to the Tibetan people.
I'm not sympathetic to the Pope, but there are plenty of devoted Catholics around the world whose plight moves me.

True, and you must admit the Mass is a beautiful ritual. I bet it would be quite powerful if performed properly (oops! did I give something away?). Some here at this forum have already figured out I have a secret love for Scientology... I'm going to write sumthin special about it soon.

And Mr. Hellpop - you took this by now way OT thread into a very interesting direction...
