Honestly this ain't that big a surprise.

There's always fungal infections around disaster areas, especially ones when there's water around ... basically anything but a fire. In a moist environment with rotting vegetation there are life threatening fungi, usually you need a compromised immune system too begin with, but there are plenty of those around disaster areas as well.

And I spose that leads to the next obvious point.

Good sterilisation equipment, and breathing masks are an important part of any emergency gear/disaster survival gear you have. Also if you are involved in a disaster cleanup. Its worth having a mask for areas that have don't have good ventilation/airflow.
