DC Madam possibly commits suicide in Tarpon Springs

Police and detectives investigate a death at a Tarpon Springs mobile home.

TARPON SPRINGS - Police were called to the home of DC Madam Deborah Jeane Palfrey's mother on Thursday to investigate a suicide.

Police would not confirm that the dead person is Palfrey - only that it is a white woman in her 50's. Palfrey is 52.

Palfrey was dubbed "The DC Madam" by the national media after her arrest for allegedly running an upscale call girl ring in the nation's capitol.

She was convicted on Tuesday of money laundering, using the mail for illegal purposes and racketeering, but she had not yet been sentenced.

There has been much speculation in the media about who was on Palfrey's client list, but few details came out during the trial.

Randall L. Tobias resigned as a deputy secretary of state after acknowledging to ABC News that he used Palfrey's service for massages.

Reminds me, I haven't heard an update about Bill Bennett's alleged dominatrix, Leola Jean McConnell, who was said to have gone missing last year. Anyone know more?

She'd been convicted, and was awaiting sentencing, so there's plausible deniability now.

Accused D.C. madam: Britton worked for her
May 7, 2007

WASHINGTON (Map, News) - A woman accused of running a Washington-area prostitution ring says former University of Maryland professor Brandy Britton worked for her.

Britton told The Examiner before her death that she previously worked for an escort service called East Coast Elites, but she never mentioned Deborah Jeane Palfrey or her firm, Pamela Martin & Associates, during a series of interviews with this newspaper.

Palfrey revealed the details of what she contends was a legal escort service on the ABC newsmagazine “20/20” on Friday night, claiming Britton was an employee.

“She wasn’t making enough money, so she decided to do a little moonlighting,” Palfrey said.

Britton committed suicide in January, days before she was scheduled to stand trial on prostitution charges and be evicted from her $600,000 Ellicott City home. She faced up to a year in prison on each count, but Howard County prosecutors said that if convicted, she likely wouldn’t have served any time.

Britton’s Howard County police file makes no mention of Palfrey or her escort service. Police said Britton was working alone when arrested in January 2006, and they have not connected her case to Palfrey.

After Britton’s death, the Howard County police turned more than 186 pages of their investigative file into Britton’s alleged criminal activities to The Examiner, including client lists dating from Nov. 16, 2005, to Jan. 8, 2006.

Although Britton said her clients included “police, lawyers and judges,” her notes don’t appear to include the names of prominent people. They contain many partial names and code names, including notes for appointments with men identified only as “Robert,” “Bernard” and “David.” Next to their names, she sometimes wrote the callers’ purported occupations, such as “Dr.” or “Accountant.”

Britton was a former assistant professor of sociology and anthropology at University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She resigned in 1999.

Police said in 2006 that Britton had turned to prostitution.

Britton operated a Web site called Alexisangel.com that stated she charged a minimum of $300 an hour for modeling and companionship, police said.

In her last interview, Britton denied she was anything more than a high-end escort whose customers paid for companionship that would not necessarily lead to sex.

“I thought I would hate the job, and I’d just have to do it,” she said. “But I really liked it, and I made some really good friends, and I like men more than I ever did before. It’s a long story, but as a feminist it made me see things differently. They love their families and their kids. They’re good guys that really love their wives.”

The Associated Press contributed to this story.
Don't believe anything they say.
And at the same time,
Don't believe that they say anything without a reason.

I'm keenly interested in the manner of death.

Stories like this prove the deplorable state of our media. It is automatically "suicide" because local authorites say so. No questioning, no suspicions, no blaring headlines: "Did the DC Madam REALLY Commit Suicide?"

Suicide? Not likely.

A comment at the RAW story (here:http://rawstory.com/news/2008/DC_madam_commits_suicide_in_Florida_0501.html ) quoted/linked to this part of the wikipedia entry:

She wrote in August 1991 following an attempt to bring her to trial,"If taken into custody, my physical safety and most probably my very life would be jeopardized, rape, beating, maiming, disfigurement and more than likely murder disguised in the form of just another jailhouse accident or suicide would await me," said Palfrey in a handwritten letter to the judge accusing the San Diego police vice squad of having a vendetta against her.[9]

"No I'm not planning to commit suicide," Palfrey told The Alex Jones Show on her last appearance, "I'm planning on going into court and defending myself vigorously and exposing the government," she said.[10]

On May 1, 2008 Palfrey allegedly committed suicide in Tarpon Springs, Florida. She was staying with her mother at the time.[1] Palfrey's body was found in a small storage shed attached to her mother's mobile home. Tarpon Springs police reported finding handwritten suicide notes near the body.[11]

methodology

Postby km artlu » Thu May 01, 2008 3:00 pm

For those of you who haven't seen the film "Michael Clayton", aside from its other merits it contains a scene of a troublesome man being disposed of which is very instructive.

For those occasions (fewer as the dumbing-down proceeds) in which multiple head-shots make for an awkward "suicide", a subcontracting black ops team such as the one portrayed in that movie is the way to go.

It is the matter-of-fact professionalism and proficiency of it which is uniquely chilling, and all the more believable for those qualities.

So true, Sunny, re: "the deplorable state of the media".
