NIAGARA, Wis. — A man wearing camouflage clothing and carrying an assault rifle walked out of the woods and gunned down four young people who had gathered at a river to go swimming, killing three of them and wounding one.

More than 100 law enforcement officers from at least 10 agencies searched today for the gunman, a middle-age man who was last seen near the town of Niagara in northern Wisconsin, across the state line from Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Officers set up roadblocks and evacuated an unknown number of homes.

Nine young adults had gathered near a railroad bridge on the Menominee River when the gunman came out of the woods and opened fire about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Sheriff Jim Kanikula.

Authorities have not determined a motive. The sheriff said there was no communication between the gunman and his victims.

The shooter was only 7 to 10 feet away from one victim when he fired, the sheriff said.

Today, two of the bodies remained at scene about three miles west of Niagara because of fear that the shooter was still in the area.

The dead were identified as Tiffany Pohlson, 17; Anthony Spigarelli, 18; and Bryan Mort, 19. A fourth victim, 20-year-old Daniel Louis Gordon, was wounded.

Niagara is about 210 miles north of Milwaukee.

Police Identify Man Suspected Of Fatally Shooting 3 Mich. Swimmers
Police Hunted For Man Wearing Camouflage Throughout Night

POSTED: 11:42 am EDT August 1, 2008
UPDATED: 2:17 pm EDT August 1, 2008

NIAGARA, Wis. -- Police say a 38-year-old man from Iron Mountain, Mich., is in custody following the shooting deaths of three young swimmers at a Wisconsin lake near Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

A fourth swimmer was shot and wounded in Thursday's attack near Niagara in Marinette County, Wisconsin.

Marinette County Chief Deputy Jerry Sauve said Scott Johnson was arrested this morning after a large manhunt.

Johnson wore camouflage clothing as he walked out of some woods near the scene of the shooting, and dropped his weapon as officers approached.

Johnson has not been formally charged. A message left on an answering machine at a phone number listed for Johnson in Iron Mountain was not returned.

People living in northern Wisconsin said they're shocked by the violent act.

The school superintendent in nearby Norway, Michigan, said it's a great place to raise kids. But he said "that's been violated and we don't know why."

The sheriff said there was no communication between the gunman and his victims.

He said the shooter was only 7 to 10 feet away from one victim when he fired on the group of nine young people who had gathered near a railroad bridge on the Menominee River.

This morning's arrest has ended a dragnet involving more than 100 law enforcement officers around the northern Wisconsin town of Niagara just west of the Michigan state line.

Tiffany Pohlson, Anthony Spigarelli and Bryan Mort were believed shot to death with an assault rifle.

Daniel Louis Gordon was wounded.

Interesting that he's 38, and the Canadian head-chopper is 40. One more of these "randoms" and it's time for me to order Dave McGowan's book.

why does it feel like something's building?

Postby geogeo » Fri Aug 01, 2008 5:34 pm

Not more than a few months ago I was wondering what had happened to the halcyon days of beltway snipers, anthrax, 11-related 'terrorist' attacks, university shootings, and the typical chaos. Now it looks like the mind-controlled robots have been unleashed (again). Funny how much mental illness just one such attack can have. I would b e willing to bet that the USians have been more traumatized than Canadians on the beheadings. Every time I travel elsewhere, in countries whose languages I speak fluently, I just get the idea that something is seriously wrong in the US, that our media really are turning us into a nation of mind-controlled sheeple controlled by meds. Crazy idea, I know.

weird as hell. I hate to say it but... if he'd shot the rest of them he probably could have gotten away, so did he want to get caught or was he stupid or did the program weaken? I wonder what mental state he was in when he surrendered?

They had an idea of who he was and where to look for him because he'd raped an acquaintance the night before:

Woman says man held in Wis. shootings raped her

By JAMES A. CARLSON – 9 hours ago

MILWAUKEE (AP) — A woman said a man suspected of opening fire on a group of young adults, killing three, had raped her the night before in the same northern Wisconsin woods where the victims were slain.

The woman said she told her parents about the assault, and they reported it to authorities. She said officers came to her home late Thursday, mentioned the shootings that occurred earlier that day along a riverbank in the town of Niagara — near the same spot where she claimed to have been sexually assaulted — and asked her to describe her attacker.

The suspect, whom the woman described as a casual friend, was arrested Friday after he emerged from the woods following an all-night manhunt.

Scott J. Johnson, 38, was being held in jail Friday night to await an initial court appearance. He had not been formally charged in the shootings.

Authorities did not return calls seeking comment on whether the reported rape was related to the shootings. Jail officials did not know whether Johnson had an attorney.

The 24-year-old woman told The Associated Press in a phone interview Friday night that she met her attacker in December while shopping. The AP does not name people alleging sexual assault without their consent.

The woman said the two struck up a conversation and later bumped into each other occasionally in Kingsford, Mich. Kingsford and nearby Niagara are about 210 miles north of Milwaukee, along the Menominee River, which separates Wisconsin from Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

"We just became friends — not good friends, just friends," the woman said. "If he rode past on his bike, if he saw me working in the garden, he would stop and say hi."

On Wednesday evening, the man she knew only as "Scott" stopped and asked if she wanted to go for a bike ride, she said, then he led her down a remote road to a place he had taken her about a month earlier without incident.

"Scott told me that a lot of teenagers go down there, but I didn't know anything about that," she said.

The place was along the Menominee River, near a railroad bridge, which the two crossed to reach the Wisconsin shore.

When they went into the woods, the woman said, the man shoved her to the ground and raped her as she tried to fight him off. They later walked out of the woods and back across the bridge and to their bikes, then rode away, she said.

"I was trying to act as calm as I could," the woman said. "I didn't want to try to run away. Who knows what he would have done if I did?"

Police came to her home the next night. "They wanted me to describe what this guy looked like," she said.

By then, a massive manhunt was under way for the gunman in the riverbank shootings. More than 100 law enforcers from at least 10 agencies searched for him.

Johnson was dressed in camouflage when deputies confronted him the next morning. He dropped his assault rifle as officers approached.

Authorities in Wisconsin's Marinette County listed his address as Iron Mountain, Mich. But a protection order that the woman obtained Friday morning against Johnson said he lived in nearby Kingsford, about four blocks from her.

The order prohibits Johnson from following the woman, appearing at her home or work, or threatening her. It includes details from the woman's account of the alleged rape.

Authorities have not released any information about Johnson.

A woman who answered the door at a Kingsford residence and identified herself as Johnson's mother said she was too distraught to speak with a reporter. "They're not telling me nothing," she said tearfully.

Johnson's accuser said she learned his last name Thursday afternoon by checking the address where she knew he lived with his mother and a brother.

The woman said she believed he was unemployed, and he told her he had joined the military after graduating from high school.

"Up until Wednesday night, he seemed like a normal, nice guy," she said.

Investigators have not determined a motive in the shootings.

Sheriff Jim Kanikula said there was no communication between the gunman and his victims. He said the shooter was only 7 to 10 feet from one victim when he fired.

The dead were identified as Tiffany Pohlson, 17; Anthony Spigarelli, 18; and Bryan Mort, 19. A fourth victim, 20-year-old Daniel Louis Gordon, was wounded. All were from Michigan.

About 250 people, many of them in their teens, attended a vigil Friday night at First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain.

Among them was 16-year-old Brittany Gunville, who said she was at the river with friends until about 15 minutes before the shootings. She said one of her friends, who was driving, had to leave.

"My friend had to work otherwise we would have still been there," she said as she and other young people hugged and consoled each other.

Associated Press writer Dinesh Ramde in Niagara contributed to this report.

Gruesome crime shocks Greek isle
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7539944.stm

Police on the Greek island of Santorini have shot and injured a knifeman who decapitated his girlfriend and walked around the streets with her head.

Terrified residents of the popular tourist island barricaded themselves into their homes and called the police.

The suspect, 35, was shot during a dramatic car chase in which he crashed into a motorbike and badly injured the rider and pillion passenger.

The crime is one of the most gruesome in Greece in recent memory.

Decapitated teen's head 'used as bowling ball'
SIMON O'BRIEN
16/07/2008 2:41:33 PM

A Brisbane man repeatedly stabbed and then helped decapitate a teenage boy in a "thrill kill", a court heard today.

James Patrick Roughan, 28, is on trial in Brisbane's Supreme Court, charged with the murder of 17 year-old Morgan Jay Shepherd.

It is alleged Roughan and another man, Christopher Clark Jones, 24, were drinking at Roughan's Sandgate home on March 29, 2005 when a fight broke out.

Roughan is accused of repeatedly punching and stomping on the boy before using a knife to stab him 133 times.

Jones has already been convicted of the murder.

"The body was then dealt with in a barbaric way," prosecutor David Meredith said.

"The head of the deceased was sawed or chopped off and it was seperated and not buried with the body.

"It appears on the face of it to be a thrill kill."

Mr Meredith said Jones also told friends that Roughan used the head like a puppet and a bowling ball, which Roughan denied.

The court heard Roughan and Jones' friends and neighbours would be called as witnesses in the trial and would tell the jury how the men, both of Sandgate, borrowed a car and then drove to Dayboro in Brisbane's north to bury Mr Shepherd's body in a shallow grave, before later burying him again.

The court was told Mr Roughan had already pleaded guilty to interfering with a corpse and being accessory after the fact to murder, but not guilty to murder.

However, prosecutors said the Crown would not accept the alternative charge because evidence would show Roughan was directly involved in the crime.

He said former friends of the men would give testimony that they had conversations in which Roughan was implicated in the murder and that a wound on Jones' hand was a result of Roughan accidently stabbing him while stabbing Mr Shepherd.

It is alleged that in one conversation, Jones claimed had Roughan stuck his hand up Mr Shepherd's decapitated head and "used it as a puppet", however Roughan denied it.

Roughan has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.

The trial is expected to finish late next week.

Why is it these mass shooting rampages in America always happen in waves?

Remember the 1997-1999 endless kid school shootings?

Or the VT Tech/Nasa space center/school/office shootings that all happened in mid to late April?

Or the series of rampages that ended in the Amish school massacre?

It's almost like, a kind of current *happens*...and these events are triggered, all primed and readied for our ADHD tv addled consumption.

Now mind you, I am not suggesting there's anything "weird" about
a teenager named "robert hawkins" walking into a mall and going on a shooting rampage killing 7 people...just as Bush is taking off a few miles away, and where a homeland security official "warned" the mall security for the potential of terrorism several hours earlier.

Just like there's nothing fishy about a black 40 year old Iraqi war vet
going on a serial shooting spree using a BushMaster .223(Bush is Master, 322?), leaving Death Tarot cards at the crime scenes and forcing police to say on tv a series of cryptic clues and puzzles after killing 9 and wounding 11...all in between the 9/11 and anthrax attacks and the start of the Iraq war. Makes you wonder WHO that FBI agent he killed was.

I'm sure Sirhan Sirhan's automatic writing of cryptic symbols and words, was just part of his boredom...and not his days in magickal orders and CIA mind control.

Maybe I've read one too many conspiracy theorist article, but I feel there may be some sort of Fortean or deep state tie to some of these events.

Haha, to THIS DAY I still notice that most of the "al Qaeda" terror bombings since 9/11 always fall on an 11 or 7. Man those al Qaeda's sure love numerology!

Yeah, certainly nothing fishy how all these mass shootings come in waves, then ebb for awhile, then come back with a vengeance.

WTF?

Canadian bus beheading. Greece isle beheading. Brazil teen beheading his gf and taking cell pix of it. Then an Australian kid being beheaded and turned into a puppet/bowling ball?

And this isn't even taking into the account all the horrors that must be going on right now in Kenya, Congo and Sudan.

Shit, where's Wilbur? I think he may be onto something. This world is just fucked.
