Man shot dead at Hollywood Scientology Center

A man wielding two samurai swords was shot and killed outside the Los Angeles headquarters of Tom Cruise and John Travolta's Church of Scientology on Sunday.

A security guard, who has not been named, shot and killed the man as he charged towards him and his colleagues.

Police questioned the guard but have determined he acted in self-defence.

Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Terry S. Hara tells the Los Angeles Times, "The evidence is very clear the security officers were defending their safety."

Reports suggest the dead man was a former member of the church.
