The trailer does not do it justice. A profound and important work for our times on a number of levels. Anti-immigrationism, corporate militarism, drone bombers, globalization, technological connection, technological alienation, scarcity, privatization and on and on, it's all in there. And it's just plain good. Netflix it, torrent it, do what you gotta do, just see it ASAP.

I saw it! (of course I LOVE anything cyberpunk)

The biggest commentary I felt is how easy it is to convince someone to pilot a UAV predator drone to go murder people halfway around the world and not think twice about it, other than feeling "patriotic".

I also got the message of immigrants, and how corporations have abused and misused migrant Mexicans for slave labor.

The trailer was lame, but I can see that there's a good movie behind that. Any idea if it's out on DVD yet?

Have seen it on the rack at my local video store. Have it already on my list to see.

Did this ever go into wide release? I've been addicted to cyberpunk since the day I got hold of Neuromancer and keep an eye out for it, but never heard of this movie until this evening...?

I've seen pretty much anything even remotely described as cyberpunk(Tetsuo the Iron Man, A Scanner Darkly, Blade Runner, Tank Girl, Hackers, Fifth Element, Casshern, Immortel, The Fifth Element, Renaissance, Appleseed, Appleseed Ex Machina, Ghost in the Shell series, Akira, Hardware, Terminator 2, Aliens, etc)

It's funny, they've come close to making a Neuromancer movie...but I feel in a way many Neuromancer films have been made

Thanks, Hugo, but I meant a wide release in theaters. I watch the entertainment news pretty closely (well, unless I'm really short of time, like right now) and hadn't seen that title mentioned as an upcoming release. The trailer said something about it having won an award at Sundance, so perhaps it had a limited release and either didn't come to the Bay Area or I was distracted and missed it. I'm the kind of movie buff who prefers to see films while sitting in the dark with strangers

There was also a not-great version of Gibson's short story Johnny Mnemonic and TV miniseries Wild Palms. And Paycheck (PKD/John Woo!). And another one that's teasing my aging memory but not quite surfacing...

No problem. And yeah SleepDealer was a pretty low budget indie film that barely came to any independent theaters.

The only way a person is likely to find out about movies like this is in a thread like this, it seems. So many really interesting themes are explored in films that most of us never hear of at all.

8bitagent, when you mentioned the wonderful The Contstant Gardener above, that elusive memory FINALLY popped into my mind, because it starred Ralph Fiennes too. It's called Strange Days and here's its IMDb plot summary. (what a relief! I feel like a cat that's taken 24 hours to cough up a particularly stubborn hairball )

is Tetsuo the Ironman really cyberpunk? that shit was crazy! As far as Takashi Miike goes, i'd say Gozu is one of the best.
