NEW YORK — A son of former ABC News anchor Ted Koppel was found dead in an apartment after a day of bar hopping with a man he'd just met, a law enforcement official said Tuesday.

A drunken Andrew Koppel, 40, had been placed in a back bedroom of the Manhattan apartment to sleep it off and apparently had been dead at least four hours before anyone realized, said Belinda Caban, who lives in the apartment.

I mean, you've got a prominent journalist. Who suddenly loses his 40 year old son to a "drinking binge?"

How many 40 year olds die from partying too much? The only people I've known to actually do this are high school kids, a few college kids, and people with mental health problems.

And he was drinking with "a man he'd just met"?

Well, I would imagine that in a case like this, it's not what you've done, but what you're planning on doing, that would result in such a thing.

I mean, once you've done it, it's over. But if you're thinking about doing something, and somebody gives you a really good reason not to, well ....

Of course, it could be argued once you've killed somebody's son, then the somebody's got nothing to lose. Unless they have more kids. Or loved ones.

Wasn't Michael Jordan's dad supposedly killed because of an extreme gambling debt that Michael Jordan had? And what about Bill Cosby? Didn't it turn out there was something fishy about that?

The Washington Times wrote a salacious June 29, 1989 story that highlighted Spence's astonishing ability to play the puppeteer and pull strings: "Homosexual Prostituition Inquiry Ensnares VIPs with Reagan, Bush." The Headline read: "Call Boys Took Midnight Tour of White House". . .

The article also revealed that Spence stopped by DC's ABC studios shortly before the midnight tour and introduced a fifteen-year-old boy to his old firend Ted Koppel. The Washington Post quizzed Koppel about his friendship with Spence, but Koppel declined to speak "in-depth" about Spence, because Koppel said that he planned to write a story about him - two decades later I'm [Nick Bryant]not aware of Koppel ever writing anything about Spence.
