The Labor Secretary Went Easy on a Pedophile; He Must Be Fired, Right Now

Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta, when he was the U.S. attorney in Miami, let serial pedophile Jeffrey Epstein off appallingly easy. This is as open and shut as it gets.

12.03.18 4:53 AM ET
Have you heard about the latest scandal engulfing the Trump administration? No, I’m not talking about the president’s efforts to extend his property empire to Russia, and his routine bottom-kissing of Vladimir Putin. I mean the scandal that should by rights be generating even more shock and condemnation: the one involving his Labor Secretary, Alexander Acosta.

If you don’t know the entirety of the disgusting, vile details, that won’t be surprising. They are actually so sordid—both where Acosta’s own alleged actions and those of the criminal he should have done far, far more to bust are concerned—that TV news cannot properly cover them without likely violating broadcast decency standards.

The Miami Herald has done a great service to God and country by reporting on this very large skeleton in Acosta’s closet, though—and frankly every American voter should go read the paper’s expose now. Then American voters should demand Acosta’s head immediately.

trump's Secretary of Labor Alex Acosta ...Let's Make A Deal

victims will be testifying

Alex Acosta, you made a mockery of Florida’s sex offender laws. It’s time to resign.

By Fabiola Santiago fsantiago@miamiherald.com
Palm Beach multimillionaire Jeffrey Epstein is a free man, despite sexually abusing dozens of underage girls according to police and prosecutors. His victims have never had a voice, until now.
By
They are young women now living in the empowering #MeToo movement of the times. But when wealthy Palm Beach hedge-fund manager Jeffrey Epstein sexually abused them, they were only 14 to 17.

Remember that age?

The naïveté behind the façade of grown-up girl. The peer pressure and the boy pressure you don’t know you’re under until you’re an adult looking back. And, if you’re poor and had a troubled childhood, add to the mix the need to make money too early in life.

Serial predator Epstein knew these girls’ vulnerabilities and how to lure them: Money. Mansions. Jet-setting abroad to parties. One girl brought in another girl to work “for the old man,” as one girl put it, in a sex pyramid scheme.

Once the girls were deep into the lifestyle of $400 a pop “massages” in lavish surroundings, they were trafficked for sex to Epstein’s equally rich, prominent, and powerful friends, and often times flown abroad to his luxury properties in a private jet dubbed the “Lolita Express.”

“It started with one and it trickled into two and so on. And before you know it, I’m being lent out to politicians and academics and royalty,’’ Virginia Roberts, then 16, told Miami Herald investigative reporter Julie K. Brown, who has identified dozens of these girls and dissected every aspect of the concealed case against Epstein.

Brown’s one-year investigation, “Perversion of Justice,” is shining a much-needed light on the sweetheart plea deal given to the man who enslaved these girls by none other than President Trump’s Secretary of Labor, Alexander Acosta.

Any other man accused of heinous sex crimes might have faced real justice. But Epstein, a money manager for the rich, had quite a roster of powerful and influential friends and customers in his little black book. Among them: Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew, a slate of actors, actresses and hypocrites like Kenneth Starr.

Oh yes, Epstein could hang with both Clinton and the independent counsel who investigated him, Starr. How handsomely would that combination possibly pay off?

This offers the best clue: Starr, a former partner at the Kirkland & Ellis law firm, also knew Acosta, who had worked there. He was one of the high-powered attorneys Epstein hired, which also included Jay Lefkowitz, a former Acosta colleague; Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz, Jack Goldberger, Roy Black, former U.S. Attorney Guy Lewis and Gerald Lefcourt.

According to the Herald investigation, Acosta and his assistant prosecutors caved under the pressure. The players in this revolting drama have a penchant for underestimating sexual assault, dismissing women’s claims, and some are facing their own woes. In 2016, Starr had to resign from his post as chancellor of Baylor University during an investigation into his handling of sexual assaults at the college.

Roberto Koltun El Nuevo Herald
These girls never had a chance at any real justice then. Let’s see what they get from the justice system now that they’re suing to overturn Eptein’s plea agreement on the grounds that it violated the federal Crime Victims’ Rights Act.

When the allegations of sex abuse came to light in 2005, the Palm Beach police did its job, taking the investigation seriously and culling enough evidence that should have put Epstein behind bars for life. The FBI, too, joined the probe after police learned that what was essentially a human trafficking ring extended beyond Florida.

But while Epstein’s wounded victims struggle with the guilt and shame of what happened to them, he’s is a free man, thanks to the deal carved out in secret by Acosta that allowed Epstein to serve a mere 13 months in prison, sealed documents so that what happened wouldn’t be public record, and shut down the FBI investigation.

Acosta — the dean of Florida International University’s law school until Trump picked him to be part of his Cabinet — has a lot of questions to answer, but has refused to comment.

He avoided scrutiny during his confirmation hearing by Republicans who pushed him through despite knowing about the controversial Epstein deal. He was second choice to Trump’s first appointee, food executive Andy Pudzer, booted for domestic-abuse allegations and for hiring an undocumented immigrant as a housekeeper.

Acosta, a Cuban-American with an accomplished career appointed by George W. Bush to the post of U.S. attorney in Miami, made for an expedient addition to Trump’s cabinet, as the president was under pressure to add a Hispanic from his support base in South Florida.

It’s perfectly in character for Trump, who also stands accused by a dozen women of sexual harassment and assault, to overlook that Acosta let a serial sexual predator of teen girls get away with a slap on the wrist and concealment of the case.

But Congress should have known better than to confirm Acosta to a job that entails pursuing human trafficking cases. The sweetheart deal — an utter disregard for the severity of the abuse these girls suffered — should have disqualified Acosta from serving in the administration.

The former prosecutor made a mockery of the sex-offender laws in Florida, some of the strictest in the nation, and of the federal government.

He should be forced to resign from his Cabinet post.

Maybe he can make a living representing perverts.

We dug deep to give a voice and a face to Jeffrey Epstein’s victims

Palm Beach multimillionaire Jeffrey Epstein is a free man, despite sexually abusing dozens of underage girls according to police and prosecutors. His victims have never had a voice, until now.
Much has been written about Jeffrey Epstein, the wealthy businessman who sexually abused and trafficked underage girls for years.

Yet so little had been heard from the victims, dozens of adolescents, some still wearing braces, who were cut out of the lenient deal that sent the town of Palm Beach sex offender to jail for only 13 months.

That is the power of Perversion of Justice, an investigation by Miami Herald reporter Julie K. Brown that for the first time gives a voice and a face to some of the victims of the Epstein case. A decade after a secret plea agreement orchestrated by then-Miami U.S. Attorney Alexander Acosta, the victims — now women in their late 20s and early 30s — are still seeking an elusive justice.

“They were betrayed by the people who were supposed to protect them,” Brown said.

Brown first became interested in the topic of sex trafficking after completing a series on abuses at a Florida women’s prison. In her early research,The Jeffrey Epstein case came up repeatedly.

Support investigative journalism

The Miami Herald obtained thousands of FBI and court records, lawsuits, and witness depositions, and went to federal court in New York to access sealed documents in the reporting of "Perversion of Justice." The Herald also tracked down more than 60 women who said they were victims, some of whom had never spoken of the abuse before.

Your digital subscription, starting at $0.99 for the first month, supports investigative journalism like this.

Then Acosta, who was serving as dean of the law school at Florida International University, was nominated to serve as secretary of labor by President Donald Trump. At the time of Acosta’s nomination, the Miami Herald wrote about his key role in helping to craft the secret plea deal with Epstein in 2007. When the senators vetting his nomination seemed disinclined to ask him tough questions about his most controversial case, we became more intrigued.

Brown dug as deeply as possible into the behind-the-scenes machinations that characterized the Jeffrey Epstein prosecution. She spent a year sifting through tens of thousands of pages of documents.

What was new to report?

She convinced important players to speak on the record, some for the first time, including the lead detective and the former Palm Beach police chief. She got access to previously unreleased records, which yielded fresh revelations. And she was able to identify 80 possible victims, labeled Jane Does in lawsuits to protect their identifies as minors.

She reached out to 60 of the women and eight agreed to talk about the case. Brown and visual journalist Emily Michot earned the trust of four victims, who spoke on the record and on camera, three of them for the first time.

Our story is really the victims’ stories.

The reporting was all the more difficult due to the considerable efforts to keep details of the case secret. Those efforts are underscored not just by sealed court documents in various civil cases, but by emails between the prosecution and the defense, which talked about an “avoid-the-press” strategy and a deliberate campaign to keep the victims in the dark so they wouldn’t get in the way of the deal.

“This was carefully crafted to be a sarcophagus of secrecy,” said investigations editor Casey Frank. “Our reporting involved coaxing people to talk even though their words had been ignored before to the point where they didn’t think it would do any good to speak up now.”

Even today, we continue to fight that secrecy.

During the reporting, the Miami Herald went to federal court in New York to access sealed documents in a civil case filed by one of the victims, Virginia Roberts. She alleged that Epstein and an associate operated an international sex trafficking operation. The case was settled in 2017 and the documents sealed. In August, a judge denied the motion. We are appealing.

“What else is in those sealed documents?” Frank asked.

The series has already had considerable impact. Washington lawmakers from both sides of the aisle — from Debbie Wasserman Schultz to Marco Rubio — have raised questions about Acosta’s fitness for the office he currently occupies. And it has apparently eliminated him from any consideration for attorney general.

“This was not about politics,” Brown said. “Sexual abuse doesn’t have a political party affiliation.”

A last-minute settlement has been reached in Florida in a long-running lawsuit involving Jeffrey Epstein, a politically-connected financier accused of sexually abusing dozens of teenage girls.

The deal came Tuesday just before jury selection was to begin. It means none of the women will be able to testify against Jeffrey Epstein for now.

Thanks for that
I am posting from your link but let's start with this

Image

Btw - the media, including the left wing media is still not telling you the whole Epstein story as far as I can tell.

They'll tell you he was raping young teenaged girls, that he was running a sex slave ring, that he knew Trump, Dershowitz and Bill Clinton, that SOMEONE was protecting him...

but they'll never tell you why.

Here's why:

The fact is, the entire state of FLA knew what Epstein was doing. Half of Hollywood. Influential members of the government. Lots of rich people. Nobody ever moved against him, not even once... why?

Well to understand that, you have to understand WHAT Epstein was doing

When they busted Jeff Epstein, his ENTIRE sex slave fuckpad was outfitted with cameras and microphones - clearly he was collecting blackmail material, and when you look at his list of friends and visitors, it's clear that material would lead to EXTREMELY high profile abusers.

But who was he collecting it FOR? Was it him? Was Jeff Epstein just blackmailing Presidents to protect himself?

No, I don't think so and to understand why you have to go back, to deleted internet articles about HOW Epstein was discovered, or rather "exposed"

What triggered Epstein's arrest if EVERYONE knew what he was doing for years and refused to act?

Simple - the British intelligence services contact the United States to say Jeff Epstein was blackmailing Prince Andrew for a foreign power and if the US *DIDN'T* do something (ct)

the UK would take the whole thing public - to British intel, this was not an issue of "Prince Andy is a kiddie rapist" - they EXPLICITLY stated to our govt that it was a question of "national sovereignty"

So WHICH foreign government did the UK think was blackmailing Prince Andrew?

Well, they never said - but let me tell you something else about Epstein that nobody is telling you right now - he had a partner in crime, a woman who essentially ran his sex slave stable.

Her name? Ghislaine Maxwell

Why is that important? Only because he father was Robert Maxwell, a dude who openly admitted to subverting the British government on behalf of Israel.

And now, you have a President who knew Epstein, attended his rape parties, gave Epstein literally 14 different contact numbers to reach him (like you might do for a blackmailer who demanded to know everything and control you)

and that same president? Can't say no to Israel.

Can I prove it?

Of course not.

But everything I just told you is 100% true, has been published in mainstream media sources and points to an obvious conclusion.

A conclusion that will NEVER be made in mainstream media. Ever.

Also, before anyone points out that Epstein is Jewish and goes all frothing nazi on me here - if I had to guess, Jeff Epstein was the first "victim" of the blackmail ring. My all accounts he really was a wealthy child rapist, and much of his relationship with Maxwell (ct)

that is public has the tone of an impish, irritated boy being wrung in by his more sensible "friend" - people thought they were dating but we now know that's not true and that Jeff likes them under 16 or not at all.

Maxwell, was Epstein's handler & s/o got to Epstein first

Epstein was then likely forced to install the cameras and be the face of the scheme because they had the dirt on him already - that's why he was petulant with Maxwell and made he recruit victims for him.

it was his way of getting back at the people controlling him.

So, while it might be an Israeli intelligence plot - it wasn't a Jewish conspiracy and it was made possible by the fact that Jeff Epstein really is a sick child rapist who happened to have a lot of money and rich friends.

Also, the fact that the buck stopped with Epstein, but the US govt bent over backwards to offer him a sweetheart enough deal that he wouldn't rat out all the insanely powerful people we KNOW he paled around with and would of at least had the OPPORTUNITY to blackmail...

Does strongly suggest that Epstein is someone else's pawn and not the mastermind of the scheme.

He's just a sick, rich, influential child rapist caught up in a national security game featuring a prince, the daughter of a wealthy/famous Israel backer, 2 Presidents & their lawyer

Epstein and Andrew met in the 1990s, introduced by the financier’s then girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell, the glamorous daughter of disgraced tycoon Robert Maxwell.

She and Epstein became a couple shortly after the newspaper publisher’s 1991 death when Miss Maxwell moved to New York and – bankrolled by him – established herself as a leading Manhattan socialite.
She repaid the favour by putting Epstein in touch with her own well-heeled friends in Britain, including Andrew. According to friends, this first meeting probably took place during a holiday at the Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, owned by Donald Trump.

In 2000, Epstein was an honoured guest at a June engagement at Windsor Castle to celebrate the Queen’s birthday.

Six months later, he was invited to a party at Sandringham which the prince had arranged to celebrate Miss Maxwell’s 39th birthday. In between, she took Epstein to a ‘hookers and pimps’ party at a New York nightclub hosted by former lingerie model Heidi Klum in a black latex S&M outfit.

Andrew was also at a Manhattan cocktail party thrown that year by Miss Maxwell which was filled with young Russian ‘models’ – leaving some of the other guests ‘horrified’, court papers indicated.

More sordid secrets of Epstein’s ‘House of Sin’ then began to emerge – including Andrew’s penchant for massages. The billionaire’s long-standing handyman and cleaner Juan Alessi said, in court papers seen by the Mail, that he set up massage tables for Andrew on a daily basis. Speaking under oath to solicitors in 2009, he said pictures of naked women were on display by the pool, while other witnesses described nude photographs of underage girls adorning a stairway.

He said Miss Maxwell kept a laundry basket full of sex toys in a cupboard at the house, alongside a shiny black costume. Mr Alessi added that the five-bedroom home ‘was run like a hotel’ with a host of celebrity guests passing through. Among them was Andrew, who stayed in the blue guest room where there was apparently soap in the shape of male and female genitalia.

Mr Alessi said: ‘I saw guests at the house that were celebrities ... It was Prince Andrew. It was Princess Sarah.’ He later clarified that he meant the Duchess of York. Asked whether the pair ever had massages, Mr Alessi said: ‘Prince Andrew did.’ At least 40 girls later came forward, some saying Epstein sexually assaulted them during massages.

One sordid allegation was that for his birthday one year, he was presented with three 12-year-old girls from France for his sexual pleasure.

The woman’s lawyers allege in their motion that, in addition to facilitating her alleged encounters with the prince and Dershowitz, Epstein trafficked her to “many other powerful men, including numerous prominent American politicians, powerful business executives, foreign presidents, a well-known prime minister, and other world leaders”.

A woman who claims that an American investment banker loaned her to rich and powerful friends as an underage “sex slave” has alleged in a US court document that she was repeatedly forced to have sexual relations with Prince Andrew.

The accusation against the Duke of York is contained in a motion filed in a Florida court this week in connection with a long-running lawsuit brought by women who say they were exploited by Jeffrey Epstein, a multi-millionaire convicted of soliciting sex with an underage girl after a plea deal.

The woman, who filed the motion anonymously, alleges that between 1999 and 2002 she was repeatedly sexually abused by Epstein who, she also alleges, loaned her out to rich and influential men around the world.

The document – a motion to expand an ongoing lawsuit relating to prosecutors’ handling of Epstein’s case with two new plaintiffs – alleges that the woman “was forced to have sexual relations with this prince when she was a minor” in London, New York and on a private Caribbean island owned by Epstein.

The prince is not a named party to the legal claim, which is directed against federal prosecutors. He has not had any opportunity to respond to the allegations in the legal claim.

The woman is said to have been 17 at the time, considered to be a minor in Florida.

In a 2011 Vanity Fair article, Prince Andrew denied any sexual contact with young women associated with Epstein.

Contacted on Thursday, Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the allegations contained in the court document. A palace spokesperson said the royal household would “never comment on an ongoing legal matter”.

However following publication of this article on theguardian.com, Buckingham Palace issued the following statement: “This relates to long-running and ongoing civil proceedings in the United States to which the Duke of York is not a party. As such we would not comment in detail. However, for the avoidance of doubt, any suggestion of impropriety with underage minors is categorically untrue.”

Another close associate of Epstein who is also accused in the lawsuit, Alan Dershowitz, told the Guardian that the woman’s accusations against himself were “totally false and made up”.

The Harvard law professor and esteemed criminal defence attorney who later advised Epstein on how to respond to the FBI’s investigation is accused in the court motion of having sexual relations with the woman when she was a minor and of witnessing the abuse of other minors.

On Thursday he told the Guardian: “There is no more strenuous denial than the one I am giving. I never met her. I don’t know her. I have never had sex with an underage person.”

He added: “This person has made this up out of cloth, maliciously and knowingly in order to extort money from Mr Epstein.”

Dershowitz, who has occasionally written op-ed articles for the Guardian, said he could not comment on the woman’s allegations against Prince Andrew or any other men, but he said her claims against him were demonstrably false and challenged her to file criminal charges against him.

“It is a totally fabricated charge in every possible way,” he said. “It just never happened.”

He said he was considering taking legal action to have Brad Edwards and Paul Cassell, the lawyers who filed the motion, disbarred for “knowingly filing … a false, malicious and defamatory statement in a lawsuit”.

Edwards said: “We have been informed of Mr Dershowitz’s threats of legal action and bar proceedings … we carefully investigate all of the allegations in our pleadings before presenting them.”

In a statement to the Guardian through her lawyers, the woman behind the allegations said she was being “unjustly victimised again”.

“These types of aggressive attacks on me are exactly the reason why sexual abuse victims typically remain silent and the reason why I did for a long time,” she said. “That trend should change. I’m not going to be bullied back into silence.”

The Guardian is aware of the identity of the plaintiff behind the allegations, but is respecting her wish to bring the case anonymously.

Andrew’s close relationship with Epstein – he visited him in New York two years after the American’s release from prison in 2009 – has long been a source of controversy. The Daily Mail reported in 2011 that the prince had broken off contact with the banker.

The duke had previously been accused of meeting Epstein’s young victims and possibly being aware of their sexual exploitation. However, this is the first time he has been named in a court document as a participant in any sexual activity with one of the young women allegedly trafficked by Epstein.

As the claim has only just been lodged, and as the duke is not a named party to it, he has not had the opportunity to formally file a defence or denial to the claims.

In 2006, the FBI opened an investigation into allegations that Epstein had been paying for sex with underage girls at his Palm Beach mansion for years. By the following year federal prosecutors said they had identified 40 young women who may have been illegally procured by Epstein.

In 2008, however, the federal inquiry was dropped after Epstein negotiated a deal with prosecutors in which he agreed to plead guilty to a relatively minor state charge relating to soliciting paid sex with a minor – a 14-year-old girl. He served 13 months of an 18-month sentence and is now a registered sex offender.

Many of his alleged victims have since reached out-of-court settlements with Epstein, who was once considered among the wealthiest investment bankers in the world.

However, two of Epstein’s alleged victims, referred to in court documents as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2, have brought a lawsuit arguing that federal prosecutors violated a victims’ rights statute by failing to consult them over Epstein’s secret deal.

The pair won a significant legal victory in July last year entitling them to see previously confidential documents from the plea bargain discussions between Epstein’s lawyers and federal prosecutors.

The court document filed this week containing allegations against Andrew is a motion to allow two more alleged Epstein victims, referred to as Jane Doe 3 and Jane Doe 4, to join the action.

Jane Doe 3 – the woman who made the accusations against Andrew – claims her contact with Epstein began when she was approached at the age of 15 by Ghislaine Maxwell, the daughter of the late media mogul Robert Maxwell and a close friend of Epstein.

The motion alleges that Maxwell “was one of the main women whom Epstein used to procure under-aged girls for sexual activities”. With Maxwell’s assistance, the document alleges, Epstein converted the girl into a “sex slave”, repeatedly abusing her in his private jet or his lavish residences in New York, New Mexico, Florida and the US Virgin Islands.

“Epstein also sexually trafficked the then-minor Jane Doe, making her available for sex to politically connected and financially powerful people,” the court document alleges. “Epstein’s purposes in ‘lending’ Jane Doe (along with other young girls) to such powerful people were to ingratiate himself with them for business, personal, political, and financial gain, as well as to obtain potential blackmail information.”

The motion alleges that Maxwell was “a primary co-conspirator in his sexual abuse and sex trafficking scheme” and that she also participated in the abuse.

The document goes on to allege: “Perhaps even more important to her role in Epstein’s sexual abuse ring, Maxwell had direct connections to other powerful individuals with whom she could connect Epstein. For instance, one such powerful individual Epstein forced Jane Doe #3 to have sexual relations with was a member of the British royal family, Prince Andrew (aka Duke of York).”

The document lists three locations where the woman alleges she was forced to have sexual relations with Andrew: Maxwell’s London apartment, Epstein’s private Caribbean island in what was allegedly “an orgy with numerous other under-aged girls”, and an undisclosed location in New York.

Requests made to representatives of Ghislaine Maxwell for comment had not been returned at the time of publication, but she has previously strenuously denied any involvement in procuring young girls for Epstein or any of his associates. In 2011 a spokesperson for Maxwell said she had never been contacted by any law enforcement agency in connection with the allegations.

The new motion alleges that Epstein instructed the girl “to give the prince whatever he demanded” and also instructed her to “report back on the details of the sexual abuse”.

Epstein's Girl Friday 'fixer': Dead tycoon's daughter Ghislaine Maxwell and the girls she hired for paedophile's stable

Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1363444/Ghislain-Maxwell-girls-hired-paedophile-Jeffrey-Epsteins-stable.html#ixzz1FqoMRxqZ

One woman has been a constant in the ever-shifting cast of females with which Jeffrey Epstein surrounds himself.

Ghislaine Maxwell, glamorous daughter of the late, disgraced newspaper tycoon Robert Maxwell, is different from the other women in Epstein’s life in many ways but, most obviously, at 49, she is a lot older. She is also Epstein’s Girl Friday, his fixer – central to his operation.

It was Ghislaine who, in 1998, recruited the 15-year-old Virginia Roberts to work as Epstein’s ‘masseuse’.

Meeting Epstein for the first time at his Palm Beach mansion, Virginia was led into the massage room by Ghislaine. After a bizarre interview conducted by a naked Epstein, Ghislaine told Virginia to follow her instructions.

‘She had me put oil on my hand, then she grabbed one of his feet and started to massage it. She told me to take his other foot,’ says Virginia. ‘Then she told me to take off my clothes. He had sex with me.

‘Ghislaine said, “She’s got a knack for it.” And I thought, “These are important people. I must be doing something right.” ’

Ghislaine had fled to New York after the death of her father, who fell off his yacht – named the Lady Ghislaine after his favourite child – in mysterious circumstances in 1991.

His death revealed a vast financial black hole at the heart of his Mirror Group, including the employees’ pension scheme.

In Britain, the Maxwell name was mud as fraud trials, bankruptcy and disgrace swirled around the family, but in America – with her charisma, love of the high life and an address book stuffed with well-connected friends – Ghislaine became a fixture on the Manhattan social scene.

She and Epstein soon became inseparable. There was talk first of marriage, then it was said that they were like ‘an old married couple’ but that Epstein would not marry her. It emerged only after an

FBI investigation into his sexual exploitation of teenagers that his interest lay in underage girls.

According to Virginia, Ghislaine helped smooth the way for Epstein to sexually molest the young girls recruited to ‘massage’ him.

But she also provided him with an entry into British society – including the friendship with Prince Andrew that lasted until Friday, when the Prince dramatically announced he was breaking off all contact.

Between 2000 and 2001, Andrew and Ghislaine were together on no fewer than eight occasions.

Epstein was present at four of the meetings – at the Mar-a-Lago club in Florida (from where Virginia was recruited), in Phuket, at a weekend party at Sandringham, and at Windsor Castle. In addition, Andrew has often been seen at Epstein’s grand New York townhouse.

Virginia says: ‘I once asked Ghislaine why she got as many girls as she did for Jeffrey, as she supposedly had been his girlfriend and they seemed to have a grounded but non-monogamous relationship. She replied, “It takes the pressure off me to have sex with him.”

‘She said she’d hit hard times. She had no money to her name. She was disgraced. Jeffrey offered her a job and then, I guess, because of her ability to procure girls for him and to teach us what he liked, she became a vital asset to him.

'The training she gave me was very thorough. It started on my first day at work following the “interview”. I began learning legitimate massage techniques.

‘She also taught me how to keep him emotionally happy. She said, “Be compliant. Always be cheerful. Always smile a lot.”

‘She told me that I should bring along any girlfriends I had who might be suitable. She said he liked white girls – no black girls, ever. If a girl was of any other heritage, she had to be a knockout beauty.

‘She also taught me what kind of clothes to buy. His favourite was to dress me as a schoolgirl, in pigtails and little pleated skirts, and knee socks. Ghislaine sent me to a dentist to have my teeth whitened and I went for Brazilian waxes. He wanted me to look pre-pubescent.

‘Ghislaine herself had flings with men, including a famous Hollywood star. Jeffrey didn’t mind that.He was very good to her.

'He bought her a house in New York, a house in London, a helicopter and a Mercedes convertible.

‘A British girl, Emmy Tayler, was very close to Ghislaine. Her job was to run errands for Ghislaine and do paperwork.

'Emmy wasn’t really Jeffrey’s type, being voluptuous and older. [She is now 36]. Jeffrey liked girls like me, with ballerina figures.

‘Emmy and I were very close but I didn’t tell her much about my background and she didn’t tell me much about hers.

'She came to the States to become a model or actress and said she met Ghislaine in New York. Ghislaine promised her a great lifestyle, like she’d promised me. She was given an apartment in the same New York building as me.’

Last week, The Mail on Sunday tracked Emmy down to a house in an exclusive Oxford street. When asked to comment on her involvement with Epstein and Maxwell, she said: ‘I don’t want to talk to you.’

Ghislaine also held ‘auditions’ for masseurs to work for Epstein on his private Caribbean island, Little Saint James.

The interviews would take place on the neighbouring US Virgin Island of St. Thomas, and candidates would be chosen on the basis of their appearance.

According to an American male masseur, who worked for Epstein from 1998 to 2001, giving him the strong, deep rub-downs the young women were unable to provide, Ghislaine also demanded regular massages.

Now 38, the therapist, who does not wish to be named, says: ‘Whenever they were on the island, they’d call up and ask when I could go over. It was great money, $100 an hour.

'I’ll never forget the first time I massaged Ghislaine. I walked into the room to set up the table and she was standing there stark naked. I was extremely embarrassed, but she was totally uninhibited.’

When he visited Epstein’s five-bedroom mansion, which boasts coral walls and stunning 360-degree ocean views, he says: ‘I’d regularly see up to a dozen naked young women lounging around. The

house is open-plan, so you can see out on the patios and the pool deck.

‘There’d be classical music playing in the background to set a very relaxed ambience. If the women were ever introduced to me, it was as his “secretaries”.’

According to Virginia, Ghislaine was the undisputed leader of the girls in Epstein’s entourage. ‘She was funny. She was boisterous.

'I was scared of ever saying no to her. I was always compliant. I knew if I said no to anything, I would be on the street,’ she says.

She adds: ‘Ghislaine was a photographer and she took many of the nude pictures that were all over the houses, including the ones of me in a hammock that Bill Clinton and Andrew and all their visitors had to have seen.

‘One year, I couldn’t think what to give Jeffrey for his birthday and Ghislaine said: “Just give him a photograph of you.” I had a nice picture of myself, lying against a tree, fully clothed, but when

'I showed it to her, she said, “No, you can’t give him that.” She took me and laid me naked across a hammock and put a sheer piece of net across me and posed me with my legs open, a bit provocatively, and that was the picture she had me give Jeffrey.’

Another girl Ghislaine targeted for Epstein was Nadia Bjorlin, an actress who stars in the American soap opera Days Of Our Lives.

Now 30, she was just 13 when she attracted the tycoon’s attention. Her mother, Iranian-born Fary, spoke last week of the family’s disturbing experience. Nadia’s father, celebrated classical conductor Ulf Bjorlin had died just a year earlier, and Fary says she believes the mourning schoolgirl must have appeared an easy target.

‘She was at school at the famed Interlochen Music Centre in Michigan when she met Epstein,’ says Fary.

‘My daughter was a singer. She was a baby. She was a skinny little girl, not mature for her age. She was 13, but everyone thought she was nine or ten.

‘Epstein was a big donor and he heard about Nadia and that her father had died, so she was vulnerable, and he contacted her. He said, “Here’s my number.”

He kept saying: “Come – will you come?” He said he wanted to help mentor her. I wouldn’t let her meet him. What sort of a man approaches a young girl and asks to meet her?’

It was Ghislaine who managed to become friendly with Fary and Nadia. ‘I trusted Ghislaine, she was like a mother. She was always calling my house,’ says Fary.

‘Ghislaine didn’t want me to meet Epstein, but I did anyway, and asked what he wanted with Nadia. He said he wanted to help her singing career. He said, “I’d like to be like a godfather”. It felt creepy.

'I had a bad vibe about him, and said, “Stop!” I told him, “No thank you. She doesn’t need your help.” I kept Nadia away from him. She never met him alone. She never went anywhere with him.’

It was not until Epstein’s arrest that Fary realised the fate which could have befallen her daughter.

His disgrace began in March 2005 when the mother of a 14-year-old girl contacted Palm Beach police alleging she had been sexually molested.

When detectives quizzed the girl, she told them a friend had invited her to a rich man’s house to perform a massage.

At the house, she said she was paid $300 after stripping and massaging the man, whom she identified as Epstein, while he performed a sex act.

One of the young girls successfully recruited was Johanna Sjoberg, a church-going brunette, who was hired ostensibly as an occasional home help but then induced to perform demeaning sexual services.

Johanna was studying psychology at Atlantic College, Palm Beach in February 2001, when Ghislaine approached her on campus and offered her a job. For $20 an hour, the 21-year-old was to answer the phones and serve drinks at Epstein’s house.

In reality, she was expected to massage Epstein and, over time, the massages became increasingly sexual in nature.

Johanna met Prince Andrew in the library of Epstein’s New York townhouse in Easter 2001, when Virginia was also present.

‘Andrew was sitting there in a big leather armchair behind which there was a desk covered with photos of girls and young women including the one of me in a hammock,’ says Virginia.

‘I don’t think Andrew could have missed seeing it when he walked in.’

The Prince had been given a Spitting Image puppet of himself by Ghislaine, who was also present. Johanna was sitting on Andrew’s knee, and said Ghislaine made Virginia sit on his other knee.

Then, Johanna recalls, Ghislaine ‘put the puppet’s hand on Virginia’s breast, then Andrew put his hand on my breast’.

Virginia says she was mortified when she realised she had been summoned that day to entertain the Prince.

She added: ‘There were many years when I really liked these people. But now I feel angry and used.’

It was her second encounter with him. Earlier that spring, she had been introduced to the Prince at Ghislaine’s London house. Andrew came round and he, Ghislaine, Epstein and Virginia, had tea before going to a restaurant and then to Tramp nightclub, where Virginia danced with Andrew.

Later all four returned to Ghislaine’s house, and Epstein took a picture of Andrew with his arm around Virginia’s bare midriff. Later, she was left alone with Andrew.

Virginia met Andrew one final time on Epstein’s Caribbean island.

It was during a subsequent trip to the island that Epstein said he wanted her to have his child – which finally prompted Virginia to leave.

A spokesman for Ghislaine Maxwell said last night that she has never been contacted by any police force or other law enforcement agency in connection with any allegations made against Jeffery Epstein.

The FBI is to reopen its investigation into disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein following Mail on Sunday revelations about his sexual exploitation of teenage girls and his links with high-profile individuals, including Prince Andrew.

The Bureau wants to interview Esptein’s former personal ‘masseuse’, Virginia Roberts, after she revealed last week that she was recruited as Epstein’s sex slave when she was just 15.

Last night, in an exclusive interview with The Mail on Sunday, Virginia confirmed she will fully co-operate with the new investigation, which could have serious implications for Epstein and embarrass Prince Andrew, who she met on three occasions.

‘I will talk to the FBI,’ Virginia said.‘I am anxious. I am still frightened of him because he has so much power. I had to put this behind me.

'But in the end this is not for me. It’s because I’m afraid there are a lot of girls still doing what I did for him, eight years after I left. I want to be the one who breaks the chain.’

The news comes as the Government appeared to withdraw support for the Prince’s role as a trade envoy, with Business Secretary Vince Cable refusing to say whether he should stay in the post.

A source close to the inquiry said the FBI decided to reopen the case because of Virginia’s revelations to The Mail on Sunday last week.
Speaking out: Virginia Roberts, pictured recently, said she is willing to be interviewed and 'break the chain'

He said: ‘Now that Virginia has come forward and identified herself as a victim who was flown around the world by Epstein for the purpose of committing a criminal act, this is being taken very seriously.

The FBI is interested in pursuing the allegations published by The Mail on Sunday.’

Now a married mother of three living in Australia, Virginia alleged that her services were offered to a number of politicians, businessmen and international statesmen.

She also met Prince Andrew. The first time was at the London house of Ghislaine Maxwell, daughter of the disgraced former media tycoon Robert Maxwell.

The second time was at Epstein’s grand New York townhouse and the third on Epstein’s private Caribbean island.

The new FBI investigation will undoubtedly be of grave concern to Prince Andrew, who was forced to accept that his continued friendship with the financier, a convicted child sex offender, was unwise.

On Friday, he severed all ties with Epstein – although the new investigation could reveal further damaging details of their association.

Virginia’s account of her meetings with the Prince was published under the restrictions of British libel laws, notoriously the most draconian in the Western world. There will be no such restraint on her testimony to FBI investigators.

It is highly likely that detectives will also wish to question the Prince as part of their investigation. If subpoenaed he may be forced to plead diplomatic immunity based on his role as business envoy for UK Trade and Investment. Last week David Cameron faced calls from the floor of the Commons to remove the Prince from his post.

If Andrew refuses to co-operate with US authorities he would, in all likelihood, be banned from entering the States, which would seriously affect his ability to fulfil his role as a trade envoy.

Virginia said: ‘I have lived with these secrets for years. Stepping forward wasn’t easy. My husband and family come first and I don’t want to do anything that could possibly hurt them.’

It is believed the new investigation will centre on Epstein’s procuring of young girls and paying them to provide sexual favours for his business associates at his homes in New York, Florida, the US Virgin Islands and New Mexico.

Epstein’s palatial houses were secretly covered by a network of hidden video cameras, raising concerns that compromising footage exists of a number of rich and powerful individuals useful to Epstein’s work as a money manager.

‘If Virginia’s allegations are correct, Epstein may have committed offences not covered by the non-prosecution agreement,’ our source said.

There is no suggestion of any sexual contact between Virginia and the Prince, or that Andrew knew that Epstein paid her to have sex with his friends.

The previous FBI investigation was shelved after Epstein’s lawyers struck a plea bargain with prosecutors at the US Attorney’s office in Southern Florida in which the money manager pleaded guilty to solicitation of prostitution and a single charge of procuring minors for prostitution.

The financier was sentenced to 18 months in prison in 2008.

The Mail on Sunday can reveal that under the terms of the secret deal Virginia was assigned a lawyer, Robert Josefsberg, whose fees were paid by Epstein.

In a letter from the US Justice Department, Virginia was told Josefsberg would work out a settlement between her and Epstein.

Josefsberg attended America’s Yale Law School with Alan Dershowitz, who happened to be representing the tycoon during the criminal case.

Referring to the inadequacy of the original investigation, the source said: ‘Virginia was interviewed by phone from Australia for maybe 45 minutes before the secret plea bargain was cut.’

Virginia agreed the original questioning was insufficient but felt powerless to do anything about it. ‘I felt no one was listening to me,’ she said last night, ‘including maybe my own lawyers.

‘I told my lawyers I thought that some of the men I had to have sex with were powerful and rich, but they didn’t even show me pictures that would have helped me identify them.

‘I am happy that finally there are people who aren’t in Jeffrey’s pockets who are standing up to protect me and saying, “This was not right, this was not acceptable.” People who don’t want this to happen to their daughters.’

After the case, more than 20 other girls launched legal actions against Epstein. At least 17 have been settled out of court.

A spokesman for the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida said last night: ‘We cannot comment, confirm or deny the existence of any investigation or on our intention to open or close a matter.’

Epstein’s little black book: 16 numbers for Andrew, 10 for Peter Mandelson (and Reinaldo)

Contacts: Lord Mandelson details in Epstein's book. Numbers have been blanked to protect his privacy

It is an astonishing roll call of names which shines a fascinating light into the world of Jeffrey Epstein and the powerful network he established both here and in America.

The financier’s ‘little black book’ of contacts encompasses every conceivable sphere of influence, from politics and showbusiness to business and royalty. It lists numbers for former presidents, government Ministers, state senators, rock stars, actors and members of the British aristocracy.

There are 16 numbers listed for Prince Andrew under his title, The Duke of York. They include private and ex-directory numbers and there is also an email address.

A printout of the contacts book, which was kept online, was subpoenaed for use in one of the civil cases against Epstein and is considered important potential evidence if the reopened criminal case leads to new charges against the financier.

It includes the names of several of the men Virginia met while with Epstein. There are also numbers for massage businesses in the Virgin Islands and in the UK. There are lists headed ‘Massage – Florida’ and ‘Massage – New Mexico’ and ‘Massage – Paris’, featuring phone numbers of girls identified only by first names.

In the Paris list, one note says: ‘Stephan (better than Gypsy!)’ Another says: ‘Sonya (speaks little English’ and ‘Tanya (speaks no English)’.

The ‘book’ includes details for a number of British politicians, including Tony Blair – although the fact that it shows only his office address suggests this link, at least, was more one of ambition than substance.

There are also home numbers for Michael Heseltine, former Northern Ireland Secretary Shaun Woodward and Peter Mandelson.

Lord Mandelson’s entry features ten numbers, including direct lines, home numbers, a fax and mobile details for his partner, Reinaldo. Many are now out of date but it seems no coincidence that he and Prince Andrew have worked together in the past.
Peter Mandelson
Reinaldo Avila da Silva

The Whitehall body that oversees Andrew’s duties as Britain’s special representative for international trade and investment is the UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and was part of Lord Mandelson’s portfolio during his time as Business Secretary.

Lord Mandelson and Andrew also have a mutual close friend, the Kazakh-born socialite and businesswoman Goga Ashkenazi. Both men attended her 30th birthday party in February last year.

And Lord Mandelson was hired to speak at two events organised by Samruk-Kazyna, Kazakhstan’s sovereign wealth fund which is effectively run by the President’s son-in-law, Timur Kulibayev.

Mr Kulibayev bought Prince Andrew’s marital home, Sunninghill, for £15 million three years ago – £3 million above the asking price. Last night Virginia Roberts told The Mail on Sunday: ‘I never heard of Jeffrey knowing Tony Blair, but he did know Peter Mandelson.

‘I remember him being at the house in New York and I was introduced to him at a dinner party.

He and Jeffrey talked business together. I assumed they were in business together.

‘I was never asked to give him [Mandelson] a massage.’

Bill Clinton, a known associate of Epstein’s, is listed under the name of one of his aides, Doug Bands. There are 21 contact numbers as well as fax numbers and email addresses.

‘Some of these are people whom we know accepted Jeffrey’s hospitality,’ a source says. ‘Some are

people like Tony Blair, who probably had no idea they were in there.’

Jeffrey Epstein craved big homes, elite friends - and, investigators say, underage girls

By Andrew Marra

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

Monday, August 14, 2006

WINGED GARGOYLES guarded the gate at Jeffrey Epstein's Palm Beach mansion. Inside, hidden cameras trolled two rooms, while the girls came and went.

For the police detectives who sifted through the garbage outside and kept records of visitors, it was the lair of a troubling target.
Jeffrey Epstein

Epstein, one of the most mysterious of the country's mega-rich, was known as much for his secrecy as for his love of fine things: magnificent homes, private jets, beautiful women, friendships with the world's elite.

But at Palm Beach police headquarters, he was becoming known for something else: the regular arrival of teenage girls he hired to give him massages and, police say, perform sexual favors.

Epstein was different from most sexual abuse suspects; he was far more powerful. He counted among his friends former President Bill Clinton, Donald Trump and Prince Andrew, along with some of the most prominent legal, scientific and business minds in the country.

When detectives started asking questions and teenage girls started talking, a wave of legal resistance followed.

If Palm Beach police didn't know quite who Jeffrey Epstein was, they found out soon enough.

Epstein, now 53, was a quintessential man of mystery. He amassed his fortune and friends quietly, always in the background as he navigated New York high society.

When he first attracted notice in the early 1990s, it was on account of the woman he was dating: Ghislaine Maxwell, daughter of the late British media tycoon Robert Maxwell.

In a lengthy article, headlined "The Mystery of Ghislaine Maxwell's Secret Love," the British Mail on Sunday tabloid laid out speculative stories that the socialite's beau was a CIA spook, a math teacher, a concert pianist or a corporate headhunter.

"But what is the truth about him?" the newspaper wondered. "Like Maxwell, Epstein is both flamboyant and intensely private."

The media frenzy did not begin in full until a decade later. In September 2002, Epstein was flung into the limelight when he flew Clinton and actors Kevin Spacey and Chris Tucker to Africa on his private jet.

Suddenly everyone wanted to know who Epstein was. New York magazine and Vanity Fair published lengthy profiles. The New York Post listed him as one of the city's most eligible bachelors and began describing him in its gossip columns with adjectives such as "mysterious" and "reclusive."

Although Epstein gave no interviews, the broad strokes of his past started to come into focus.

Building a life of extravagance

He was born blue-collar in 1953, the son of a New York City parks department employee, and raised in Brooklyn's Coney Island neighborhood. He left college without a bachelor's degree but became a math teacher at the prestigious Dalton School in Manhattan.

The story goes that the father of one of Epstein's students was so impressed with the man that he put him in touch with a senior partner at Bear Stearns, the global investment bank and securities firm.

In 1976, Epstein left Dalton for a job at Bear Stearns. By the early 1980s, he had started J. Epstein and Co. That is when he began making his millions in earnest.

Little is known or said about Epstein's business except this: He manages money for the extremely wealthy. He is said to handle accounts only of $1 billion or greater.

It has been estimated he has roughly 15 clients, but their identities are the subject of only speculation. All except for one: Leslie Wexner, founder of The Limited retail chain and a former Palm Beacher who is said to have been a mentor to Epstein.

Wexner sold Epstein one of his most lavish residences: a massive townhouse that dominates a block on Manhattan's Upper East Side. It is reported to have, among its finer features, closed-circuit television and a heated sidewalk to melt away fallen snow.

That townhouse, thought to be the largest private residence in Manhattan, is only a piece of the extravagant world Epstein built over time.

In New Mexico, he constructed a 27,000-square-foot hilltop mansion on a 10,000-acre ranch outside Santa Fe. Many believed it to be the largest home in the state.

In Palm Beach, he bought a waterfront home on El Brillo Way. And he owns a 100-acre private island in the Virgin Islands.

Perhaps as remarkable as his lavish homes is his extensive network of friends and associates at the highest echelons of power. This includes not only socialites but also business tycoons, media moguls, politicians, royalty and Nobel Prize-winning scientists whose research he often funds.

"Just like other people collect art, he collects scientists," said Martin Nowak, who directs the Program for Evolutionary Dynamics at Harvard University and was reportedly the recipient of a $30 million research donation from Epstein.

Epstein is said to have befriended former Harvard President Larry Summers, prominent law Professor Alan Dershowitz, Donald Trump and New York Daily News Publisher Mort Zuckerman.

And yet he managed for decades to maintain a low profile. He avoids eating out and was rarely photographed.

"The odd thing is I never met him," said Dominick Dunne, the famous chronicler of the trials and tribulations of the very rich. "I wasn't even aware of him," except for a Vanity Fair article.

Epstein's friendship with Clinton has attracted the most attention.

Epstein met Clinton as early as 1995, when he paid tens of thousands of dollars to join him at an intimate fund-raising dinner in Palm Beach. But from all appearances, they did not become close friends until after Clinton left the Oval Office and moved to New York.

Epstein has donated more than $100,000 to Democratic candidates' campaigns, including John Kerry's presidential bid, the reelection campaign of New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and the Senate bids of Joe Lieberman, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Christopher Dodd and Charles Schumer.

Powerful friends and enemies

A Vanity Fair profile found cracks in the veneer of Epstein's life story. The 2003 article said he left Bear Stearns in the wake of a federal probe and a possible Securities and Exchange Commission violation. It also pointed out that Citibank once sued him for defaulting on a $20 million loan.

The article suggested that one of his business mentors and previous employers was Steven Hoffenberg, now serving a prison term after "bilking investors out of more than $450 million in one of the largest Ponzi schemes in American history."

As he amassed his wealth, Epstein made enemies in disputes both large and small. He sued the man who in 1990 sold him his multimillion-dollar Palm Beach home over a dispute about less than $16,000 in furnishings.

A former friend claimed Epstein backed out of a promise to reimburse him hundreds of thousands of dollars after their failed investment in Texas oil wells. A judge decided Epstein owed him nothing.

"It's a bad memory. I would rather not have ever met Jeffrey Epstein," said Michael Stroll, the retired former president of Williams Electronics and Sega Corp. "Suffice it to say I have nothing good to say about him."

Among the characteristics most attributed to Epstein is a penchant for women.

He has been linked to Maxwell, a fixture on the high-society party circuits in both New York and London. Previous girlfriends are said to include a former Ms. Sweden and a Romanian model.

"He's a lot of fun to be with," Donald Trump told New York magazine in 2002. "It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it, Jeffrey enjoys his social life."

Investigation leads to Epstein

Although he was not a frequenter of the Palm Beach social scene, he made his presence felt. Among his charitable donations, he gave $90,000 to the Palm Beach Police Department and $100,000 to Ballet Florida.

In Palm Beach, he lived in luxury. Three black Mercedes sat in his garage, alongside a green Harley-Davidson. His jet waited at a hangar at Palm Beach International Airport. At home, a private chef and a small staff stood at the ready. From a window in his mansion, he could look out on the Intracoastal Waterway and the West Palm Beach skyline. He seemed to be a man who had everything.

But extraordinary wealth can fuel extraordinary desires.

In March 2005, a worried mother contacted Palm Beach police. She said another parent had overheard a conversation between their children.

Now the mother was afraid her 14-year-old daughter had been molested by a man on the island.

The phone call triggered an extensive investigation, one that would lead detectives to Epstein but leave them frustrated.

Palm Beach police and the state attorney's office have declined to discuss the case. But a Palm Beach police report detailing the criminal probe offers a window into what detectives faced as they sought to close in on Epstein.

Detectives interviewed the girl, who told them a friend had invited her to a rich man's house to perform a massage. She said the friend told her to say she was 18 if asked. At the house, she said she was paid $300 after stripping to her panties and massaging the man while he masturbated.

Police interview 5 alleged victims

The investigation began in full after the girl identified Epstein in a photo as the man who had paid her. Police arranged for garbage trucks to set aside Epstein's trash so police could sift through it. They set up a video camera to record the comings and goings at his home. They monitored an airport hangar for signs of his private jet's arrivals and departures.

They quickly learned that the woman who took the 14-year-old girl to Epstein's house was Haley Robson, a Palm Beach Community College student from Loxahatchee. In a sworn statement at police headquarters, Robson, then 18, admitted she had taken at least six girls to visit Epstein, all between the ages of 14 and 16. Epstein paid her for each visit, she said.

During the drive back to her house, Robson told detectives, "I'm like a Heidi Fleiss."

Police interviewed five alleged victims and 17 witnesses. Their report shows some of the girls said they had been instructed to have sex with another woman in front of Epstein, and one said she had direct intercourse with him.

In October, police searched the Palm Beach mansion. They discovered photos of naked, young-looking females, just as several of the girls had described in interviews. Hidden cameras were found in the garage area and inside a clock on Epstein's desk, alongside a girl's high school transcript.

Two of Epstein's former employees told investigators that young-looking girls showed up to perform massages two or three times a day when Epstein was in town.

They said the girls were permitted many indulgences. A chef cooked for them. Workers gave them rides and handed out hundreds of dollars at a time.

One employee told detectives he was told to send a dozen roses to one teenage girl after a high school drama performance. Others were given rental cars. One, according to police, received a $200 Christmas bonus.

The cops moved to cement their case. But as they tried to tighten the noose, they encountered other forces at work.

In Orlando they interviewed a possible victim who told them nothing inappropriate had happened between her and Epstein. They asked her whether she had spoken to anyone else. She said yes, a private investigator had asked her the same questions.

When they subpoenaed one of Epstein's former employees, he told them the same thing. He and a private eye had met at a restaurant days earlier to go over what the man would tell investigators.

Detectives received complaints that private eyes were posing as police officers. When they told Epstein's local attorney, Guy Fronstin, he said the investigators worked for Roy Black, the high-powered Miami lawyer who has defended the likes of Rush Limbaugh and William Kennedy Smith.

While the private eyes were conducting a parallel investigation, Dershowitz, the Harvard law professor, traveled to West Palm Beach with information about the girls. From their own profiles on the popular Web site MySpace.com, he obtained copies of their discussions about their use of alcohol and marijuana.

He took his research to a meeting with prosecutors in early 2006, where he sought to cast doubt on the teens' reliability.

The private eyes had dug up enough dirt on the girls to make prosecutors skeptical. Not only did some of the girls have issues with drugs or alcohol but also some had criminal records and other troubles, Epstein's legal team claimed. And at least one of them, they said, lied when she told police she was younger than 18 when she started performing massages for Epstein.

After the meeting, prosecutors postponed their decision to take the case to a grand jury.

In the following weeks, police received complaints that two of the victims or their families had been harassed or threatened. Epstein's legal team maintains that its private investigators did nothing illegal or unethical during their research.

By then, relations between police and prosecutors were fraying. At a key meeting with prosecutors and the defense, Detective Joseph Recarey, the lead investigator, was a no-show, according to Epstein's attorney.

"The embarrassment on the prosecutor's face was evident when the police officer never showed up for the meeting," attorney Jack Goldberger said.

Later in April, Recarey walked into a prosecutor's office at the state attorney's office and learned the case was taking an unexpected turn.

The prosecutor, Lanna Belohlavek, told Recarey the state attorney's office had offered Epstein a plea deal that would not require him to serve jail time or receive a felony conviction.

Recarey told her he disapproved of the plea offer.

The deal never came to pass, however.

Future unclear after charge

On May 1, the department asked prosecutors to approve warrants to arrest Epstein on four counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and to charge his personal assistant, Sarah Kellen, now 27, for her alleged role in arranging the visits. Police officials also wanted to charge Robson, the self-described Heidi Fleiss, with lewd and lascivious acts.

By then, the department was frustrated with the way the state attorney's office had handled the case. On the same day the warrants were requested, Palm Beach Police Chief Michael Reiter wrote a letter to State Attorney Barry Krischer suggesting he disqualify himself from the case if he would not act.

Two weeks later, Recarey was told that prosecutors had decided once again to take the case to the grand jury.

It is not known how many of the girls testified before the grand jury. But Epstein's defense team said one girl who was subpoenaed — the one who said she had sexual intercourse with Epstein — never showed up.

The grand jury's indictment was handed down in July. It was not the one the police department had wanted.

Instead of being slapped with a charge of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, Epstein was charged with one count of felony solicitation of prostitution, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison. He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail early July 23 and released hours later.

Epstein's legal team "doesn't dispute that he had girls over for massages," Goldberger said. But he said their claims that they had sexual encounters with him lack credibility.

"They are incapable of being believed," he said. "They had criminal records. They had accusations of theft made against them by their employers. There was evidence of drug use by some of them."

What remains for Epstein is yet to be seen.

The Palm Beach Police Department has asked the FBI to investigate the case. It also has returned the $90,000 Epstein donated in 2004.

In New York, candidates for governor and state attorney general have vowed to return a total of at least $60,000 in campaign contributions from Epstein. Meanwhile, Epstein's powerful friends have remained silent as tabloids and Internet blogs feast on the public details of the police investigation.

Goldberger maintains Epstein's innocence but says the legal team has not ruled out a future plea deal. He insists Epstein will emerge in the end with his reputation untarnished.

"He will recover from this," he said.

ON EDIT: I was double-checking that there hadn't been major movement in the story since this, and it doesn't look as if there has. Per wiki, in March '07, he was said to be negotating a plea that would involve 18 months in jail.

Several huge civil suits, of course, from the families of the too easily smeared young girls. So he may end up paying some kind of penalty.

Duke of York to face fresh questions as Epstein case takes new twist
The Duke of York is braced for fresh questions about his links to Jeffrey Epstein next week, after lawyers in America signalled a “major” development in their attempt to resurrect the criminal prosecution of the billionaire paedophile.

Several women who claim they were sexually abused by Epstein are challenging a plea bargain deal that enabled the billionaire to avoid being tried for offences that carried a possible life sentence. They say the deal with prosecutors was unlawful because under US law they should have been consulted, and want Epstein’s convictions for lesser offences to be set aside so he can face a fresh trial.

The Duke, who stayed at Epstein’s home in Florida and flew with him in his private jet, may be one of several high-profile figures from whom lawyers may want to take statements as part of that process.

One of the attorneys involved in the legal challenge has told The Daily Telegraph that a “major new filing” in the case will be made next week, which will increase the likelihood of the Duke being asked to give a witness statement.

The court filing is expected to contain newly-discovered emails showing how Epstein and his circle secured his plea deal – and how the disgraced financier demanded that the negotiations be kept secret from the victims. Lawyers for the victims are continuing an effort to recover all communications made to US government officials by people representing Epstein, including telephone logs and records of meetings.

The legal teams want to get to the bottom of whether any of Epstein’s high-profile friends tried to intervene in the legal process, and want to know if the Duke has any knowledge of such claims.

Ben-Menashe also claimed that in 1986 Maxwell had tipped off the Israeli Embassy in London that Mordechai Vanunu had given information about Israel's nuclear capability to the Sunday Times, then to the Daily Mirror. Vanunu was subsequently lured from London to Rome where he was kidnapped and returned to Israel, convicted of treason and imprisoned for 18 years.

Ghislaine Maxwell

Ghislaine Maxwell can wind people around her finger

On the wealthy Upper East Side of Manhattan, 80 well-connected guests gathered in a grand £6 million town house to celebrate the opening of a new shop belonging to designer Allegra Hicks, granddaughter-in-law of Earl Mountbatten.

The night before the party, the hostess had been inundated with calls from disgruntled socialites, irked that they hadn?t received an invitation.

The hostess greeted their objections with her customary charm, but remained unmoved. As always, her list had been carefully edited, and she intended it to stay that way.

Among the select few were Hollywood star Matthew Modine, Kennedy family member Mrs Anthony Radziwill, Peggy Siegel, PR consultant to the stars, and Julie Janklow, heir to a literary dynasty.

There was a Rockefeller on the list, as well as the inevitable countesses, billionaires and New York luminaries.

The guests spent the evening sipping vintage Dom Perignon champagne from cut crystal glasses before toasting their hostess ? the woman whose immaculate society credentials had drawn them all together.

As the glasses of such an elite set were being raised in her honour, she must surely have felt as if she had finally made it in New York.

After the toast, she took the guests into the townhouse?s imposing library. There, they were confronted with yet more evidence of how seriously their hostess took the social pecking order.

She had stuck fake spines on the books, with titles referring to her best friends. According to an eyewitness, this led to something of a scramble among the guests as they struggled to see if they had made it as one of her book titles:

"There was ferocious competition between guests as they compared how far up the friendship pecking order they were."

So just who is this superstar society hostess who has New York?s rich and talented clamouring for admission to her inner circle?

Ghislaine Maxwell

The Maxwell factor: Like the father she idolised (above), Captain Bob's daughter Ghislaine has achieved success on her own terms

None other than Ghislaine Maxwell, the youngest daughter of the late newspaper tycoon and fraudster, Robert Maxwell.

It was in 1991 that Maxwell plunged from the deck of his £15million luxury yacht ? a 180ft vessel named Lady Ghislaine after his daughter ? and soon afterwards it was discovered he had stolen £440 million from the Mirror Group pension fund.

Ghislaine?s reputation, like that of the rest of her family, was in tatters.

As it became clear that Maxwell?s employees had lost their pensions because he had raided them, any member of the Maxwell family seen living the high life provoked contempt and fury.

Ghislaine soon caused outrage by being photographed boarding Concorde while at the same time publicly speaking of her financial struggle ? her father, she lamented, had left her only an annual £80,000 trust fund to live off.

She compounded the error when she maintained she could not understand why people felt anger towards her.

Increasingly, she was seen to be resolutely unsympathetic to Maxwell?s victims and, astonishingly, sought to defend her father?s behaviour even after it became clear he had defrauded so many of his employees
.

Before long, there was the inevitable speculation that she was living off stolen money and Ghislaine was said to have taken to wearing a disguise in Britain to avoid recognition.

But it was a different story in America, where Ghislaine found she could do as she pleased ? and over the years she has taken full advantage of this attitude.

As her party for Allegra Hicks shows, Ghislaine has now managed to manoeuvre herself into the very heart of New York?s business and Hollywood elite.

But given the straitened circumstances she complained of, the crucial question is: How has she done it?

The answer almost certainly comes in the shape of a once glamorous American billionaire financier named Jeffrey Epstein
? a man now waiting to stand trial in Florida after being accused of paying underage girls for tawdry sexual encounters.

Epstein, it seems, took Ghislaine under his wing
when she arrived in New York a broken and lonely woman and helped her not only back on to her feet but also to become one of the most sought-after members of the city?s social elite.

Ghislaine, 46, first met Epstein, 54, in New York in 1991, the year of her father?s death and a time when she was said to be desperately lonely.

She was instantly attracted to him ? a man as flamboyant, dominant and rich as the father she had just lost.

In no time, she was appearing at Epstein?s side as the "celebrity" guest at the opening of a glamorous Manhattan restaurant. She was also a regular guest at his Upper East Side apartment.

Very soon, a friend reported that "her dependence [on Epstein] is pretty total". At one time, there were even rumours they would marry.

Epstein provided for Ghislaine a life of glamorous parties, exotic vacations and well-connected friends.

He showered her with gifts: £300 bottles of champagne, grand holidays and offered her the use of his mansions and seven cars. Together, they lived life to excess.

But most important, Epstein helped Ghislaine forget her past. Through him, she began to build a respectability in New York that would have been impossible in London, where Maxwell?s crimes were less easily forgotten.

Epstein was not, however, altogether straightforward. He may have been a firm fixture on the social scene but he had, to say the least, an opaque professional history ? a little like Robert Maxwell.

He is rumoured to have worked either for the Israeli intelligence service, Mossad, the CIA or even both.

On one occasion, he arrived in London at the home of a British arms dealer bringing a "gift" ? a New York police-issue pumpaction shotgun. "God knows how he got it into the country," said a friend.

He has been described as a one-time maths teacher at a private school for girls and as a concert pianist. More recently, he has been given the vague title of "property developer".

And while his assets include a £3million Palm Beach mansion, a 26,000-acre Mexico City estate and a priceless Picasso, the exact origins of his fortune are not clear ? although through his company, J. Epstein and Co, he manages the fortunes of around 15 clients with at least £500million in assets.

But while he indulged Ghislaine financially, Epstein ? like Maxwell ? could be cruel.

"He is a strange man," one friend is reported to have said early on in their relationship.

"Not dislikable but difficult to understand. He can treat her very well or very badly. He can be impatient, demanding and extremely critical of her. At the same time he is kind and protective."

Ghislaine was madly in love with Epstein ? and said to be desperate to marry him ? but Epstein would not commit himself and openly dated other women.

Inevitably, their romance fizzled out but Ghislaine remained firmly in Epstein?s life.

Ghislaine is said to have repaid him for his kindness to her when she first arrived in New York by introducing him to high society and potential business clients through contacts she made during her school days at Marlborough, and through her father?s illustrious friends.

Thanks to Ghislaine, Epstein partied at Sandringham and Windsor with Prince Andrew, and attended a birthday party for the Queen.

Thanks to Epstein, Ghislaine scaled the heights of New York society. It has been a very successful partnership.

But he is not the sole reason for her success. Just as her father in his heyday was feted by high society and dubbed "the Bouncing Czech" because of his resilience, so she is every bit as steely.

The similarities between Robert Maxwell and Ghislaine are striking. Like her father, Ghislaine has verve and energy but above all she shares his lethal brand of charm.

Even Maxwell?s enemies have been forced to concede that he had an unbridled charisma which was in part responsible for his success.

"She is able to entrance anyone she chooses. She is very manipulative
and winds people round her finger," a friend reveals.

However, it was not until Maxwell?s death that she began to exhibit her father?s ambition. Ghislaine had always preferred socialising to working.

Yet when left with virtually nothing after her father drowned, she came into her own.

Boarding the yacht with her mother Elisabeth, shortly after her father?s death, Ghislaine appeared griefstricken, yet totally in control.

Wearing a red tartan suit, she coolly walked into her late father?s office and ? according to journalist John Jackson who is said to have witnessed the scene ? shredded all incriminating documents on board.

Ghislaine denies this ever took place, but Jackson has never retracted the claim.

If true, those documents were the key to Maxwell?s financial empire and Ghislaine, astutely, was making sure they would never come back to haunt the Maxwell family.

In the aftermath of his death, she was defiant in the face of the criticism and jibes levelled at her father ? such as the joke made by a Maxwell employee that, on the morning he left for the boat, he was "buoyant".

Like Maxwell, who never betrayed the fact that his empire was crumbling, Ghislaine was adept at masking her emotions.

But today, just as Ghislaine?s social cachet is enjoying an all-time high, her association with Epstein threatens once again to mar her reputation and even to destroy all she has achieved.

Epstein is due to appear in court in November following an 11-month undercover investigation by police after the stepmother of a 14-year-old girl claimed she was paid £150 to give him an erotic massage at his flamingo-pink villa.

The underage girl is said to have been taken there by an 18-year-old student, Haley Robson, who told police she was recruited at the age of 17 to provide the billionaire with a nude massage for a fee of £100 ? and later was asked by Epstein to provide him with a series of young girls.

While Epstein has robustly denied the charges, friends have rallied around him, including Donald Trump, who once said:

"He likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side."

Jeffrey Epstein?s life may be about to crash as resoundingly as Ghislaine?s father?s once did. If convicted, he faces a lengthy prison sentence.

And while no longer romantically involved, Ghislaine and Epstein are still inextricably bound together socially and in business.

So what will Ghislaine Maxwell do if she is once more faced with the man in her life losing everything? The answer is simple.

Born of a tyrannical, dishonest but charming father whom she never deserted, Ghislaine will inevitably stand by her man.

No matter how reviled, or disgraced Epstein finds himself, friends of Ghislaine are in little doubt about her loyalty to him.

And judging by her past form, she will survive ? even if Epstein doesn?t.

New @Gaslitnation, 45:00: "Ghislaine Maxwell is the woman who procured underage girls for Epstein. Her father was Robert Maxwell. The relationship between Robert Maxwell, the Mossad, and the Russian mafia is disturbing and the story goes back decades..."

Kleptocracy World Order | Gaslit Nation on Patreon

In this week’s Gaslit Nation, Sarah and Andrea express their ongoing frustration about last week’s deja news avalanche of stories about corruption that remains unpunished. As America, the land of collective amnesia, realizes yet again that Trump is a Russian asset following the confessions of Michael Cohen, Sarah and Andrea discuss what it means for brazen, blatant criminals to go caught but unpunished.
Among the topics discussed are the horrific Jeffrey Epstein case, which has risen to the fore again after an in-depth expose by the Miami Herald. Gaslit Nation reviews the case, the attempts to suppress it by threatening both victims and those documenting the crimes, and wonders yet again why Trump is friends with multiple confirmed pedophiles – Epstein being only the most famed example. (Another alleged pedophile rapist is Alan Dershowitz, who represented Epstein and who was accused of raping a teenager brought to the Epstein estate; the case was ultimately settled out of court.)

We take a look at the criminal network surrounding Epstein, particularly Ghislaine Maxwell, who procured underage girls and was the daughter of Mossad operative and UK publishing magnate Robert Maxwell – who was, in turn, the man allegedly responsible for getting Russian mafia don Semyon Mogilevich an Israeli passport and allowing his organized crime network to flourish around the world. The episode also touches on corruption in Israel linked to Trump, including the relationship between Netanyahu and the Kushners, the role of Black Cube, the abuse of right of return privileges in Israel by criminals and oligarchs from the former USSR, and one-issue mega-donor Sheldon Adelson’s enormous influence of the GOP and policy in the Middle East.

In addition, we discuss the G20 and the back-slapping journalist-murderers Putin and MBS; the increased Russian aggression in Ukraine and US warmongering with regard to Iran; the idiocy of Eric Trump; the legacy of George HW Bush, and more. This is a jam-packed and super-angry episode of Gaslit Nation, but that’s what happens when stories of child abuse, murder, and corruption dominate the headlines for years and justice remains unserved.

Plaintiffs file new complaint against registered sex-offender Jeffrey Epstein for losses in decades-old $475M Ponzi scheme

In 1995 Steven Hoffenberg pleaded guilty to bilking investors of almost half a billion dollars in one of the worst Ponzi schemes in history — he paid a $60 million settlement and spent 18 years in jail. In 2016 Hoffenberg attempted to reclaim money for Ponzi victims from his ex-associate Jeffrey Epstein. And in June 2016 Hoffenberg launched a Super PAC to elect Donald Trump. Now Hoffenberg’s allegations are part of a new class action attempt to recover hundreds of millions of dollars from Epstein.

Last week law360.com reported a new class action complaint filed in New York federal court on August 21, 2018 against Jeffrey Epstein for his alleged role in a Ponzi scheme that ran from 1987 to 1993 and cost investors $475 million.

Court filings show that the complaint filed by two investors on behalf of themselves and others, includes an affidavit signed by Steven Hoffenberg that names Jeffrey Epstein as a co-conspirator in the Ponzi scheme that landed Hoffenberg in jail for 18 years. The Ponzi scheme had involved selling investors bonds, notes and securities to cover prior business losses and to fund the lavish lifestyles of Hoffenberg and, allegedly, of Epstein as well.

The action was filed to recover damages from Epstein and three companies he used to “conceal his ill-gotten gains.” The plaintiffs demand a trial by jury to determine compensation for various damages, and they estimate that the $475 million owed in restitution along with 20 years accrued interest, is now valued at approximately $1 billion.

Top of complaint against Epstein and his three companies (left) and part of exhibit B affidavit from Steven Hoffenberg (right)
This new complaint is the latest installment in a saga that started over three decades ago when Steven Hoffenberg and Jeffrey Epstein first met and bonded over their reported obsession with making money. Since then one became an ex-felon and the other became a registered sex-offender. And, like the over-used trope of Russian nesting dolls, there’s a story tucked within this story, of a newly reported series of bizarre events in 2016 when Hoffenberg and a new business partner announced plans to take over $1 billion from Epstein and simultaneously launched a Super PAC to elect Donald Trump president. The Super PAC filed an FEC receipt for a $50 million in-kind contribution — that appears to be yet another fake scheme.

Steven Hoffenberg hired Jeffrey Epstein in 1987

From early in his career Jeffrey Epstein seemed to have a knack for skirting trouble with little or no repercussion. Epstein worked at brokerage firm Bear Stearns but left abruptly in 1981. According to SEC filings and legal documents reported in a 2003 Vanity Fair expose on Epstein, he departed Bear Stearns as the SEC was looking into insider trading in an acquisition deal involving the Bronfman family’s Seagram Company. The SEC was tipped off that Epstein had information on insider trading and questioned him about it — but the SEC never charged Epstein or anyone at Bear Stearns.

A few years later in the 1980’s Steven Hoffenberg met Jeffrey Epstein in London and the two bonded over their appreciation of lavish lifestyles and an obsession with making money. According to sources Hoffenberg’s Tower Financial Corporation hired Epstein in 1987 and paid him $25,000 per month. Epstein worked on several deals including “doomed bids to take over Pan American World Airways in 1987 and Emery Air Freight Corp. in 1988.”

When Hoffenberg started to encounter legal and regulatory troubles in the late 1980’s, Epstein formed a new alliance with Leslie Wexner, the billionaire founder of The Limited Brands, which included Victoria’s Secret, Express, and Bath & Body Works. Epstein moved on and continued to build his wealth and prestige while Hoffenberg took a steep fall.

In 1994 Hoffenberg was arrested on charges of securities fraud and obstruction of justice. In 1995 Hoffenberg pleaded guilty to defrauding investors of almost half a billion dollars by operating one of the largest Ponzi schemes on record through his company Towers Financial Corporation. Hoffenberg ended up paying a $60 million settlement to the SEC, a $1 million fine, and spent 18 years in prison.

Although Hoffenberg’s conviction was based in large part on business related to the Pan Am and Emery Air deals that Jeffrey Epstein had worked on, Hoffenberg did not name Epstein at the time as a co-conspirator.

While Epstein skirted business troubles from his work for Hoffenberg, his lifestyle pursuits partly caught up with him and in 2008 Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting an underage prostitute, spent 13 months in jail and became a registered sex offender.

Various legal documents have described accusations much more serious than Epstein’s 2008 conviction, including ‘loaning’ out underage girls to rich and powerful men, in part for the purpose of obtaining potential blackmail material. And there have been legal allegations by former victims that federal prosecutors in Florida violated the rights of dozens of teenage victims by secretly negotiating favorable terms for Epstein.

While Epstein continues to face legal issues related to allegations involving minor girls, he now also faces the new complaint that includes financial allegations made by his former employer Steven Hoffenberg. The two men who once bonded over their desire to make money are now foes, but they still share several things in common: notoriety for financial and sexual crimes — and ties to Donald Trump.

Epstein, Hoffenberg and Donald Trump

Jeffrey Epstein has ties going back decades with many famous and powerful men, including Bill Clinton, lawyer Alan Dershowitz and Prince Andrew. And none are now more famous, or arguably more powerful, than U.S. president Donald Trump. In a New York Magazine article in 2002, Trump boasted of his friendship with Epstein:

“I’ve known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy,’’ Trump booms from a speakerphone. “He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it — Jeffrey enjoys his social life.”
In 2017 Politico reported on a civil lawsuit by Virginia Giuffre who claimed that two decades ago when she was 15 and working as a towel girl at a Palm Beach resort, she was recruited into sexual slavery by socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, who was Epstein’s girlfriend at the time. The resort where Giuffre had been working as a towel girl when Maxwell recruited her, was Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, which has since hosted visits by important US allies and world leaders. The story notes that “a lawyer for Trump says the president was unaware of any wrongdoing by Epstein.”

Of the many sexual assault allegations made against Donald Trump prior to his election, the most disturbing accusation was made by a woman referred to as Jane Doe in a lawsuit filed in 2016 against Trump and Jeffrey Epstein that accused both men of raping her in 1994 when she was only thirteen years old. A lawsuit filed in California was apparently dismissed over technical reasons in May 2016 and was refiled in New York and then dropped in November 2016 after the woman known as Jane Doe received threats and decided not to come forward. Trump maintains that the accusation is false.

Steven Hoffenberg has a less sordid history with Donald Trump. Before his arrest, Hoffenberg had been a tenant of Trump Tower which has been home to celebrities, gamblers, convicts and members of the Russian mafia. After he was released from prison and married in 2014, Hoffenberg showed his fondness for Trump by taking wedding photos in front of Trump Tower. In 2016 Steven Hoffenberg pursued his most pro-Trump effort yet — launching a Super PAC to elect Donald Trump president.

Hoffenberg Launched a Super PAC for Trump

The announcement that Steven Hoffenberg was launching a super PAC in early 2016 barely made a blip on the radar in the news storm that swirled around the Trump campaign.

The Washington Examiner published a short piece in May 2016 on the Get Our Jobs Back Inc. PAC and the plans of the PAC’s CEO Steven Hoffenberg to raise over $1 billion for presidential candidate Donald Trump.

In June the PAC filed an FEC expenditure report that noted a $50,000,000 In-kind contribution from Statware, Inc. at 90 Main Street, Centerbrook, CT, for the purpose of Digital Media Marketing, Revenue Sharing, on behalf of ‘Trump J. Donald’.

June 14, 2016 Report of Independent Expenditures for Get Our Jobs Back, Inc.
An ‘in-kind’ contribution is defined by the FEC as gifts of goods or services, such as consulting, donations of office supplies or mailing lists, sponsoring fundraising events, or payments for advertising on behalf of a candidate.

Politico published a June 2016 story describing the donation from Statware:

“Statware Inc. was making an in-kind donation of services worth $50 million. The PAC listed the services as “Digital Media Marketing, Revenue Sharing,” though there’s little evidence yet of such a campaign.
Statware Inc. is a private company based in Centerbrook, Connecticut, that advises financial brokers on issues related to sensitive or proprietary data. According to its website, the firm does not have outside investors and operates “without distraction or undue outside influences.”
Hoffenberg issued a June 21, 2016 press release announcing that the new Trump Super PAC called Get Our Jobs Back Inc. planned to collect $0.99 donations to fund a $50 million digital marketing campaign. The press release also included a statement from PAC spokesman Theodore Fotsis, who was listed as the media contact and as Chairman/CEO of WHAM Inc.

Statware Founded by Richard Lepoutre

According to the Statware website the company that made the in-kind contribution to Hoffenberg’s Super PAC is a “wholly-owned, private Connecticut Corporation doing business exclusively in the list industry since 1984. Statware has no outside investors and is able to direct and focus its attention entirely on the needs of the list industry without distraction or undue outside influences.” Statware founder and President Richard A. Lepoutre, is described as “a 30 year veteran of the list industry. His career includes several years at Direct Media, Inc. and as Founder and President of Statlistics, Publishers Marketing Group and Statware.”

Image from the Statware website
Richard LePoutre’s LinkedIn page lists a wide range of experience with marketing and direct mail companies. LePoutre is also listed as the founder of various conservative, military-related, and anti-porn or sex-trafficking organizations including: Founder of CauseACTION, Co-Founder of The March of Honor Campaign, credit as Executive Producer of the Honor Bound Trailer, Co-Founder of the Stop Child Porn on Facebook Campaign, and Co-Founder of MenAPAT/Men Against Prostitution and Trafficking.

It is not clear how Richard LePoutre met Steven Hoffenberg or how he came to agree to make a $50 million in-kind contribution to the Get Our Jobs Back Inc. Super PAC. And there is no evidence the in-kind contribution was ever made.

WHAM Inc. Briefly Acquired Hoffenberg’s Businesses

What was not made clear in the sparse news coverage about Hoffenberg’s Get Our Jobs Back, Inc. Super PAC for Trump and the Statware in-kind contribution, was that earlier in 2016 the company WHAM Inc. and CEO Theodore Fotsis agreed to acquire Hoffenberg’s businesses, making WHAM Inc. the owner of the Super PAC. However, this business agreement only lasted a few months and right before the election in early November 2016, WHAM Inc and Fotsis ended their agreement with Hoffenberg.

A February 2016 news release had stated that Theodore Fotsis, CEO of penny-stock company WHAM Inc. planned to acquire Steven Hoffenberg’s NYPP (New York Post Publishing — not related to Rupert Murdoch’s New York Post) and it’s holdings including Towers Investors.com.

The quarterly report filed for WHAM Inc. for the period through March 31, 2016 included more details on the February news release and described the binding agreement to acquire Hoffenberg’s businesses including NYPP and Towers Investors.

Excerpt from WHAM Inc. March 31, 2016 Quarterly filing
The March 31, 2016 filing stated that WHAM, Inc. was authorized to issue 500 million shares in addition to approximately 265 million shares already outstanding. As part of the deal with Hoffenberg, his company New York Post Publishing received almost 146 million shares, which had voting rights equal to 55% of outstanding voting shares. At the time of the announcement of the binding agreement, the WHAM, Inc. stock price for the public float appears to have been listed as $0.079. However, outside of the WHAM filing, there is no clear evidence that the stock was actually issued to Hoffenberg.

In March 2016 WHAM Inc. also bought construction company American Services Inc. (ASI). The announcement was made by Theodore Fotsis CEO of WHAM Inc., Steven Hoffenberg CEO of Towers Investors, and Alan Fraade, General Counsel at The Mintz Fraade Law Firm — the same firm that represented Hoffenberg when he launched the Super PAC.

The WHAM Inc. deal to acquire Hoffenberg’s businesses was announced along with another unusual plan that involved convicted sex-offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The February 2016 release that announced the WHAM/Hoffenberg deal also announced a bigger more bizarre plan — a binding agreement for WHAM Inc. and CEO Fotsis, along with Hoffenberg’s NYPP, to take over “Jeffrey Epstein’s Billions in Order to Pay the Towers Investor Victims.”

A different February 2016 press release included additional details and noted that “WHAM INC. now owns the collection contract for the billions of dollars due by Epstein.” The release which noted that “Jeffrey Epstein owns Financial Trust Corporation operating out of Saint Thomas” included a Q and A, which had such lively comments as this one:

“Q: Does Jeffrey Epstein have to pay back the Billion of Dollars of debt owed to the Tower Investor victims under the complex WHAM INC. takeover, which was signed last week?
A: Yes!”
A Letter of Intent signed February 2, 2016 by Steven Hoffenberg and Theodore Fotsis includes a section on Jeffrey Epstein, noting “it is contemplated that the Financial Trust Company” and “Jeffrey Epstein” based on TFC’s (Hoffenberg’s Tower Financial Corp.) investment with Epstein and the Trust shall provide a minimum of one billion dollars in assets to the Company.

There is no indication in the WHAM/Fotsis and Hoffenberg agreement to acquire Jeffrey Epstein’s one billion dollars that Jeffrey Epstein actually knew about or agreed to the deal.

The bizarre announcement almost had the feel of a hostile takeover, where the plan of the acquiring party was made without the consent or possibly even the knowledge of the target of the acquisition.

And then a few months later, May 2016, Hoffenberg filed a civil lawsuit against Jeffrey Epstein accusing him of helping Hoffenberg defraud investors. The lawsuit was later withdrawn with prejudice. But it appears that the plan announced for WHAM Inc. with Hoffenberg to take over Epstein’s billions may have been announced in coordination with the lawsuit Hoffenberg filed a few months later against Epstein.

It’s not clear if WHAM Inc.’s CEO Theodore Fotsis and Steven Hoffenberg realistically thought they could reclaim some of Jeffrey Epstein’s money, or if they intended to try to raise funds from other investors or Super PAC contributors based on their grand plans. However, all of their news releases seem far reaching and unbelievable and beg the question around what the real intent was for their partnership and the Super PAC activities.

An August 2016 press release noted that Hoffenberg’s Tower Investors.com, which managed the Trump Super PAC at Get Our Jobs Back, Inc., was a fully-owned subsidiary of WHAM, Inc. The press release described the fantastical plan for the new PAC to wipe out all US student loan debt for 43 million college student loans — a debt of 1.37 trillion dollars. Part of the plan included a Christ credit and debit card system, part of a faith-based credit card company, to be marketed to churches throughout the US. WHAM projected issuing 10 million credit cards, and making a fortune of $500,000,000 for investors. A related PR Newswire press release was briefly hosted on yahoo.com/news but was later removed.

While there has been no reporting up until now about WHAM Inc., Fotsis and Hoffenberg in the media, a July 2016 blog post by Tom Aswell on the Louisianavoice.com summarized many of the highlights of Steven Hoffenberg’s connections to Jeffrey Epstein and to WHAM Inc. based on some of their mid-year news releases.

In another odd story — the same month the Get Our Jobs Back PAC was launched, WHAM, Inc.’s June 2016 consolidated financials noted two contracts “for performance based consulting services with third‐parties” with future revenue of $113,000,000. Revenue for the same period was $463,595, making the two contracts worth $113 million a complete anomaly. None of WHAM Inc.’s financials after June 2016 referenced the two contracts or the potential $113,000,000 again.

In October the Super PAC Appears to Implode

An FEC Form 99 filing dated on the top right October 7, 2016 indicated that all elements of the Super PAC were in dispute, noting 1) the $50 million transaction is under investigation for unlawful acts by Statware Inc. to damage the Super PAC donations, 2) the investigation shows Statware lied to the Super PAC, and 3) the Super PAC fired and claimed malpractice against its law firm Mintz Fraade.

A 2017 New York Post article about unrelated work done by Alan Fraade from the law firm Mintz Fraade has the headline “Lawyer accused of misconduct has the worst name ever” and opens stating “Maybe Alan P. Fraade — pronounced fraud — should have considered a career other than law.” It appears that Hoffenberg hired a lawyer for the Super PAC who had quite a questionable reputation.

However, despite the legal items noted in October 2017, in subsequent filings Hoffenberg continued to report the $50 million in-kind contribution. For example the in-kind contribution is listed in a report filed in February 2017 for the period 04–01–2016 to 06–30–2016.

And the February 2017 cover page included hand scrawled comments noting that the Super PAC closed on November 8, 2016.

In November 2016 WHAM and Hoffenberg Part Ways

At the same time that the Super PAC closed, WHAM Inc and Fotsis parted ways with Hoffenberg.

The WHAM Inc. filing dated September 30, 2016 included a section noting that the February 2, 2016 acquisition agreement between WHAM Inc. and Hoffenberg’s NYPP was rescinded effective November 2, 2016. In addition the shares given to Hoffenberg were rescinded as well.

September 30, 2016 WHAM Inc. Information and Disclosure Statement
And then in 2017, as though WHAM Inc. wanted to distance itself further from 2016 activity, the company made two major transitions and name changes.

WHAM Inc → BERITH Holdings → Syntrol Corp

Following the strange acquisition and then divesture of Hoffenberg’s businesses by WHAM Inc. in 2016, the company quickly went through two major transformations in 2017, into BERITH Holdings and then Syntrol Corp.

A January 2017 press release about the WHAM Secure Android mobile application noted that on December 20, 2016 the company changed its name to BERITH Holdings Corporation, and WHAM Inc. CEO Theodore Fotsis, along with Russ Guzior and a few other WHAM executives, joined BERITH Holdings Corporation.

BERITH Holdings via corporationwiki.com
Later the same year a September 2017 quarterly disclosure statement for BERITH Holdings noted the company was acquiring Syntrol Plumbing, Heating, and Air, Inc. and the new company would “be named Syntrol Corp.”

Both Theodore Fotsis and Russ Guzior resigned from the company in September 2017. However a January 2018 Form 1A filing for Syntrol notes that Fotsis cancelled 1,000,000 shares he owned in ex-change for 1,600,000 newly issued SNLP (Syntrol) shares, so Fotsis appears to have remained a shareholder into 2018.

Theodore Fotsis and WHAM Inc.

It is not clear how Theodore Fotsis and Steven Hoffenberg met and developed the plan for WHAM Inc. to acquire Hoffenberg’s businesses, to launch the Trump Super PAC, and to attempt to take over $1 billion from Jeffrey Epstein.

WHAM Inc. is short for Woodman Holdings Asset Management — which appeared to trade under the stock symbol WFMC. According to the March 31, 2016 Information and Disclosure Statement WHAM Inc. was established in December 2001 as East Coast Distribution Corporation, which became IPMC-Europe Corporation in 2002, and became The Wholefood Farmacy Corporation in 2004, and then was renamed WHAM Inc. in 2011.

The company described its nature of business as investing in and/or acquiring early stage companies. These businesses ranged broadly, from WhamSecure Inc., described as a “Secure Mobile Encrypted Communications Solution” to A.S.I Construction Services, a “Full Service Construction Co., Specializing in Roofing.”

The Wham Inc. website on the Wayback Machine archive from June 2016 is filled with references to the Hoffenberg acquisition, the Get Our Jobs Back Inc. Super PAC, and blaring negative headlines about Jeffrey Epstein.

Relatively little is known about WHAM Inc. CEO Theodore Fotsis. The March 31, 2016 company filing describes his background, including his role as President of Honeyfield Restaurant Corp. in Lockport IL and that he studied theology at the Moody Bible Institute and Fire School of Ministry International.

March 31, 2016 WHAM Inc. Information and Disclosure Statement
A search of Open Corporates reveals a Theodore Fotsis who is the agent for two Nevada registered companies, Masadah Solutions, LLC and Sego Corporation. They were incorporated at different times in 2015 and both display their status as ‘Revoked.’

The other executive from WHAM Inc. listed in the March 31, 2016 filing is Russ Guzior, COO and Director, and his bio notes his connection to Hobby Lobby owner David Green, and a disposal and an antique and design company he runs. The bio ends by noting that Gucior has learned that a “biblically run company offers tremendous blessings and results versus a company that is not, (Romans 12:2).”

March 31, 2016 WHAM Inc. Information and Disclosure Statement
WHAM Inc. Website Domain Information

An independent researcher who wishes to stay anonymous helped uncover some interesting hosting information for the WHAM Inc. website. One change occurred in mid 2016 during the period when WHAM Inc. owned the Trump Super PAC. And a big change occurred in early 2018, well after the WHAM Inc. name had changed several times (to BERTIH Holdings and then again to Syntrol) and Theodore Fotsis had no known remaining connection to WHAM Inc. Therefore, the domain information below may have no significance other than an interesting coincidental domain connection — to a Ukrainian hosting company that appears in the Trump-Russia story.

Starting in July 2013 WHAM Inc. used whamcorp.us as its primary corporate domain name and used Godaddy and Cloudflare infrastructure for hosting and registration, both relatively standard for a small US based company.

According to the Waybackmachine archives by April 7, 2016 WHAM Inc. was redirecting its whamcorp.us domain to its new domain and was using a new corporate website located at whaminc.us. And per historical domain records this domain was hosted at the French cloud computing company OVH SAS which provides VPS, dedicated servers and other web services. The earliest resolution of the whaminc.us domain that was found was on April 4, 2016 to the IP address 167.114.211.10 controlled by the French company OVH SAS.

OVH SAS gained some notoriety in early 2017 because of its implication in a number of hacking events attributed to the Russian state-sponsored hacking group Fancy Bear.

Other than less transparency and regulatory oversight, it is not clear why a change like this would have been made in the months leading up to the 2016 US Presidential elections.

The other big change occurred on January 14, 2018 when Pavel Birjukovskis of Latvia took ownership of the domain whaminc.us. Given the historical timeline and changes to the hosting of this domain it is not clear whether Birjukovskis took ownership of the whaminc.us domain after it had expired and went back on the open market, or whether it was sold to him in a private transaction. Since that time the domain has been hosted on IP addresses controlled by the ITL Company.

The ITL company, based in Ukraine, has been prominent in the Trump-Russia story and was implicated as the hosting/network provider for the Blacktivist.info website and also leased servers to Greenfloid LLC, a Florida registered company run by Sergey Kashyrin, Iurii Udovenko and Iryna Volokhai on Staten Island. Greenfloid LLC ran the sites blackmattersus.com and DoNotShoot.Us. These BLM troll sites were outed by articles back in October of 2017 by the DailyBeast and Thinkprogress. ITL also hosted the Whoiswhos.me domain in September 2016 — a domain confirmed to have been controlled and used by the Russian Internet Research Agency and confirmed to have hosted malware. More recently the ITL company was again linked to a hacking campaign called VPNFilter (IP:217.12.202.40), which was again linked to the Russian hacking group Fancy Bear.

As noted earlier, in January 2018 when whaminc.us domain ownership moved to Pavel Birjukovskis from Latvia and was hosted on IP addresses controlled by ITL Company, there is no apparent connection with Theodore Fotsis, Steven Hoffenberg or anyone involved with the 2016 WHAM Inc. business. The move to ITL hosting may be an unusual coincidence.

Jeffrey Epstein link to SCL Group’s Alexander Nix

One final interesting note. Jeffrey Epstein has a tangential connection to Trump’s scandal ridden data company Cambridge Analytica and its CEO Alexander Nix.

Ghislaine Maxwell, who had been Jeffrey Epstein’s girlfriend and who allegedly recruited girls for him and his associates, is the daughter of late publishing magnate Robert Maxwell who had owned the Mirror Group and Macmillan in the UK. Robert Maxwell had been closely affiliated with the company Robert Fraser & Partners LLP. Journalist Ann Marlowe identified that Cambridge Analytica CEO Alexander Nix had worked at Robert Fraser & Partners, and that the firm was incorporated in 2003 by John Michael Bottomley who served as a director for several hundred companies including Cambridge Analytica’s parent company SCL Group from 2005 to 2014.

For the past few years Steven Hoffenberg appears to have jumped from one new outlandish scheme to another. The partnership he had with Jeffrey Epstein three decades ago has devolved into attempts by Hoffenberg to hold Epstein legally and financially accountable for the Ponzi scheme Hoffenberg claims they ran together. And in the midst of the pursuit of Epstein started in 2016, Hoffenberg formed a strange short-lived partnership with Theodore Fotsis and WHAM Inc., launched a Super PAC that claimed a mystery $50 million in-kind contribution to support the Trump campaign, and then everything was dissolved before the 2016 election.

These events may comprise yet more odd stories in the ever bizarre Trump-Russia saga. Hoffenberg’s exploits may be merely nothing-burgers, albeit colorful ones. Now it remains to be seen if the new complaint filed last week with an affidavit from Steven Hoffenberg against Jeffrey Epstein will have any traction.

UPDATE: There was a notice of voluntary dismissal on Oct 5, 2018 in the Case 1:18-cv-07580-JPO Marvin Gerber and Kalma Koenig v The Financial Trust Company, XYZ Corporation, ABC, Inc., and Jeffrey E. Epstein.

According to former Mossad agent Ari Ben-Menashe, Robert Maxwell helped the CIA and Mossad sell backdoored PROMIS software to foreign governments. One excerpt from his book:

The CIA group that was to use Promis had not handed the program back to the NSA to have the trap door fitted by them for the simple reason that they didn't want the NSA to know about it - interagency competition was fierce. Only this small CIA group, headed by Robert Gates - who was to become head of the Central Intelligence Agency in October 1991 - was in on the secret. So we now had a small group in Israel and a small group in the U.S. that knew about the trap door.

The next step for both Israel and the United States was to find a neutral company through which the doctored Promis program could be sold. It was agreed that the head of the company had to be a man who could be trusted to keep intelligence secrets, who had contacts with both Western and East Bloc countries and who had a respected businessman's image. The man they came up with was Robert Maxwell.

Robert Maxwell, whose body now lies in Judaism's most revered burial ground on the Mount of Olives overlooking Jerusalem's walled city, formed his ties with Israel in the early 1960s when a meeting was arranged for him with Yitzhak Shamir, who was then in Mossad operations in Europe. Shamir's was an important role, soliciting information from all the European-based agencies employed by Mossad. The rendezvous with Maxwell was arranged through the Mapam [United Workers] Party in Israel which was part of the labor movement and had close connections with Maxwell's leftwing colleagues in the British Labor Party.

The two men were brought together by Aviezer Ya'ari, a kibbutz member and one of the ideological leaders of Mapam. Uppermost in Ya'ari's mind was making contact with the Soviets, so it was a natural move to put Shamir in touch with Maxwell, who had intelligence links with the Soviets beginning in World War II. Shamir's past as a Stern Gang terrorist appeared to make this an unlikely pairing, but Mossad was keen to make any connections it could with the KGB, and the belief in Tel Aviv was that Maxwell, for all his pride in faithfully serving in the British Army, remained on good terms with "friends" in the East Bloc.

Maxwell, who had been elected a British Labor MP in 1964, and Shamir shared an antipathy for the Americans, and were to become friends of heart and spirit.

Rafi Eitan knew of Maxwell's long association with Shamir and with Israel, so he suggested that the British mogul would be the perfect front for selling Promis. The approach to Maxwell, on Israeli prompting, was made in 1984 by Sen. John Tower, an old friend of the publisher's, who was close to the then vlce presldent, George Bush - in fact, many years before, Tower had helped Bush get into Congress. Always interested in military and intelllgence affairs, Tower had served as chair of the Senate Armed Servlces Committee. According to Maxwell, when Bush was head of the CIA in 1976, Tower approached Maxwell to connect him and Bush secretly on a person-to-person basis with various Soviet intelligence people. When Maxwell delivered, Tower became his friend for life. With the relationship strengthening over the years, Tower subsequently was appointed a director of Maxwell's Macmillan publishing company in the U.S.

Tower's approach to Maxwell to use his network of companies to market Promis was made on behalf of the CIA group headed by Gates. But it was Rafi Eitan who mapped out the workings of Promis for Maxwell at a discreet meeting between the two men m Paris in 1984. I do not know whether Maxwell was made aware of the trap door and how Israel and the U.S. could use this to gain external access to the computers of whatever agencies were usmg the program. But Maxwell would have been made perfectly aware of the general uses of Promis and how intelligence servlces could keep tabs on anyone about whom they had cause to be suspicious.

Maxwell agreed he was in a perfect position to market Promis for the Americans and the Israelis. After all, his Berlitz language schools were located all around the world. All he needed to do was set up or buy computer companies through Berlitz Holdings. This would distance him personally from the massive spy project.

Many people seem to view Jeffrey Epstein solely as a Mossad operative, an instance of a foreign power subverting US democracy. But the history of Iran-Contra and the PROMIS scandal (among other things) illustrates how the CIA and Mossad often work closely together on covert operations. Jobs are frequently subcontracted out from one intelligence agency to the other. I believe that the cabal behind these human compromise operations (like the Franklin scandal, Jeffrey Epstein, etc.) is transnational.

Assistant DA Jennifer Gaffney, then-deputy chief of #CyrusVanceJr.’s sex-crimes unit, in January 2011 asked a Manhattan judge to downgrade #Epstein’s status in the New York sex-offender registry from the most-dangerous Level 3 to Level 1.

Manhattan DA sided with pedophile billionaire after botching investigation

Jeffrey Epstein
The Manhattan DA’s office once went to bat for billionaire pervert Jeffrey Epstein, after botching a review of his sex crimes and swallowing his lawyers’ claim that “there are no real victims here,” records obtained by the Post show.

Assistant DA Jennifer Gaffney, then-deputy chief of Cyrus Vance Jr.’s sex-crimes unit, in January 2011 asked a Manhattan judge to downgrade Epstein’s status in the New York sex-offender registry from the most-dangerous Level 3 to least-restrictive Level 1.

The judge was stunned.

“I have never seen the prosecutor’s office do anything like this,” Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Ruth Pickholz told Gaffney. “I have done many [cases] much less troubling than this one where [prosecutors] would never make a downward argument like this.”

Pressed by the judge, Gaffney admitted that she never spoke to the Florida U.S. Attorney who handled a sprawling sex-crime investigation into the financier.

“I don’t think you did much of an investigation here,” Pickholz said. “I am shocked.”

Vance’s mishandling of the Epstein hearing has come under new scrutiny after a Miami Herald report last week revealed a secret “non-prosecution agreement” in Florida that buried evidence Epstein had allegedly pimped out 80 girls and young women to his rich and powerful pals.

The DA’s office insists Vance “was not aware” of the hearing until years later and had nothing to do with it.

“Our prosecutor made a mistake,” Vance spokesman Danny Frost said of Gaffney.

Gaffney, a prosecutor working in the Harvey Weinstein probe, left the DA’s office in September. She declined to comment.

A DA insider said the office was unaware of Epstein’s secret plea deal in Florida, and never investigated his sexcapades in NYC.

Some law enforcement sources don’t believe Vance had no clue that his office had a sex-offender case involving a Manhattan mogul with close ties to Democrats.

“This is very unusual,” one said. “There is no way Vance didn’t know. The question is why — and who asked for the favor.”

The FBI found Epstein recruited girls as young as 13, many runaways, from Florida, New Mexico, the Caribbean and New York, and paid them for nude massages that often led to sex, the Herald reported. Some girls worked for a Manhattan modeling agency and lived in a nearby apartment owned by Epstein.

But Miami U.S. Attorney Alexander Acosta — now President Trump’s labor secretary — sealed a 53-page federal indictment that could have sent Epstein to prison for life, the Herald reported.

Instead, Acosta let Epstein plead guilty to procuring a person under 18 for prostitution. Sentenced to 18 months, he served just 13 — most of it in his tony Palm Beach office.

Epstein was required to register as a sex offender in New York because one of his many homes is in Manhattan.

In the Jan. 18, 2011 hearing, Gaffney argued the evidence didn’t justify the harshest status.

“There is only an indictment for one victim,,” she said. “If an offender is not indicted for an offense, it is strong evidence that the offense did not occur.”

Pickholz rejected Gaffney’s arguments and gave Epstein the highest sex-offender status – Level 3.

When Epstein appealed, Vance’s office admitted it had misread the law.

The appellate court upheld Pickholz, saying Epstein “committed multiple offenses against a series of underage girls,” and that the victim in his indictment “was only one of defendant’s many victims.”

Shocking stuff. Once again, an example of an absolute bombshell story that most of the media just seems to wish into non-existence. Props to Miami Herald for keeping it real.

The implications of this thing make a mockery of the argument that "THE PRESS WILL ALWAYS SEIZE ON AN EXPLOSIVE STORY", so of course every damned conspiracy will out.
