NY/NJ BOMBING: THE CURIOUS CASE OF THE INCURIOUS SECURITY GUARDS

Two men who were sought as witnesses in the bombing of the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan have been identified as a pair of EgyptAir “in-flight security officers.”

Hassan Ali and Abou Bakr Radwan, both Egyptian nationals whose photo was released by the FBI, are not considered suspects. Instead, we are told, they simply happened upon the travel bag containing the bomb and decided to take the piece of luggage, thereby disabling the bomb. They didn’t know what was in it until later.

Really? Two security officers who work for an airline based in Egypt, had no clue they were looking at an improvised explosive device?

The two men were identified after officials tracked their movements, via security cameras, back to the hotel where they were staying.

Mr. Ali “told me he saw it [the travel bag] and thought it was nice,” an EgyptAir official told The New York Times. “He opened the bag to check it out and found a pot.”

They left the “pot” on the sidewalk and walked off with the luggage. The pot was of course a pressure cooker wrapped in duct tape with a cell phone wired to the top.

Really? They had no idea what a pressure cooker stuffed in a bag might be used for?  One with a cell phone wired to the top?

Would they not have received some kind of training in the identification of suspicious devices? Had they not heard that pressure cookers, left in bags on the sidewalk, were used in the Boston Marathon bombing?

Based on the image of the men distributed by the FBI, officials determined that around the time of the explosion, the men were walking on W. 27th St., four blocks away from where the other bomb went off — on W. 23rd St. In other words, they likely heard the loud boom and still didn’t figure out what might have been the purpose of their lucky find.

Another strange thing is what the perpetrator used to “hide” the bomb. It’s hard to think of a piece of luggage that would guarantee more attention from scavengers in New York City than a Louis Vuitton travel bag — even if it was a cheap knockoff. Why disguise your explosive device in such a distinctive attention-grabbing piece of luggage?

A video of the two security officers making their find was released by law enforcement to NBC 4 New York. The video shows that the men got a good look at what was in the travel bag. It wasn’t just a quick glance. According to the video’s time stamp, the men spent more than a minute inspecting the bag’s contents. NBC 4 points out that “they take the device out of the bag, set it on the sidewalk, and then examine the top and bottom.”

For some reason, the FBI basically cleared Ali and Radwan of any wrongdoing before they even knew who they were, or had a chance to question them. “As airline security officers, have you had any training in spotting potential bombs?” “Have you ever heard of a pressure-cooker bomb?” “Why do you think a cell phone was wired to the pressure cooker?”

After the story broke, it didn’t appear that Egyptian officials were in any rush to interview them. When an official was asked if they had spoken

Hillary Clinton and the Chain of Command at Waco
By David T. Hardy

Many politicians have a skeleton in their closet. Hillary Clinton has a cemetery, with a sign reading “Waco.”
The 1993 Waco showdown began when federal authorities rushed the communal home of a religious group, killing six of them, and losing four agents in return. The FBI then besieged the place with tanks and other armored vehicles, and ended up with the armored vehicles punching holes in the building, and injecting massive quantities of CS “tear gas.” When that didn’t work, the tanks began to demolish the building, eventually smashing about a quarter of it and damaging the remainder. A fire broke out and 74 people died in the flames, including twenty-one children. It was the deadliest law enforcement operation in American history.
After the tragic debacle, the Clinton administration claimed that Attorney General Janet Reno had been solely responsible for the final assault. There had been no White House input during the siege, and at the end, President Clinton only acquiesced in a decision Reno had made.
Twenty-three years later, there are substantial reasons to doubt the truth of these claims. The evidence is strong that the Clinton White House was calling the shots, and that Hillary played a prominent role.
The first evidence of this came when Vincent Foster, Deputy Counsel to the president and close friend of both Clintons, was found dead in Fort Marcy Park, outside D.C. The cause was attributed to suicide. When the FBI asked Mrs. Foster what might have most stressed her husband, she cited the travel office scandal and Waco. The FBI 302 report noted “LISA FOSTER believes that FOSTER was horrified when the Branch Davidian complex burned. FOSTER believed that everything was his fault.”
But why would Foster have felt guilty -- let alone to the point of despair -- over a decision Janet Reno had made without White House input? How could he have thought “everything was his fault”?
A second piece of information surfaced after a FOIA lawsuit forced release of a videotape made during the siege. In it, an FBI supervisor tells his men that critical decisions are being “made in the White House,” and passed through “that guy Hubbell, Hummel, whatever his name is.”
Webster “Webb” Hubbell had been Hillary Clinton’s law partner back in Arkansas. Bill Clinton had just appointed him Associate Attorney General, the number three man at Justice. But the FBI supervisor is quite specific: Hubbell is not calling the shots, but relaying decisions “made in the White House.” Who in the White House was giving Hubbell his marching orders?
Linda Tripp, White House secretary and Foster associate, described the real Waco chain of command in an on Larry King Live: “[Vincent] Foster, Mrs. Clinton, Webb Hubbell, Janet Reno” – and she described their reaction to the fire and the fiery deaths of 21 children:
L. TRIPP: [A] special bulletin came on [CNN] showing the atrocity at Waco and the children. And his face, his whole body slumped, and his face turned white, and he was absolutely crushed knowing, knowing the part he had played. And he had played the part at Mrs. Clinton's direction.
Her reaction, on the other hand, was heartless. And I can only tell you what I saw.
Foster had a special Waco file. Deborah Gorham, his personal secretary, said that he had a cabinet reserved for his most sensitive files: “There were two. One was Sean Hadden [a White House staffer], and the other was Waco.”
After his death, Foster’s Waco file somehow vanished. Secret Service Agent Henry O’Neil later testified before a Congressional committee that on the night of Foster’s death he encountered Maggie Williams leaving Foster’s office with two handfuls of folders. Williams denied removing any files, and when called upon to explain her presence in Foster’s office that night, claimed she had gone “in the irrational hope that she would find her colleague still alive there.”
Did Hillary call the shots at Waco? If she did, it would explain another great mystery.
By his second term, Clinton had absolutely no use for Janet Reno. Journalist Taylor Branch wrote that Clinton “fairly howled” when describing Reno’s actions, and “said he had not been able to trust her for four years.” (Clinton’s primary upsets were Reno’s appointment of independent counsel to investigate his administration’s many scandals -- the firing and framing of the White House travel office staff, the Whitewater investment scandal, the death of Vincent Foster, the abuse of FBI files, Waco, and Clinton’s sexual affair with Monica Lewinski. It would never occur to Clinton to blame himself for creating the scandals, rather than Reno for dealing with them.). Yet Clinton said he “felt stuck with Reno, despite his resentments…”
Stuck with her? He was the president, and just re-elected. One phone call could have removed her. Presidents commonly change cabinet members, especially at the end of a first term. In his eight years, Clinton had two Secretaries of State, three Secretaries of the Treasury and of Defense, and four Secretaries of Commerce.

An Alabama teenager who has an IQ of 51 has been released nearly a year after his arrest for allegedly conspiring online for a radical terror attack.

Peyton Pruitt — a 19-year-old who soils himself and cannot tie his own shoes — faced up to 10 years in prison if he was convicted. But the St. Clair County Circuit Court last month found Pruitt not guilty by reason of mental defect, and said there was no chance he could harm himself or others. The court ordered his release from jail Tues

Two former high-ranking commanders indicted in the NYPD corruption scandal have hired one of the city’s top private investigators to dig up dirt on the government’s star witness, the Daily News has learned.

James Harkins, a retired decorated detective with a build like an NFL lineman, has helped criminal defense lawyers secure acquittals in federal and state trials involving murder, gangland killings and the U.S. Naval Academy sex assault case.

Harkins, 52, has been shaking the trees and beating the bushes on behalf of now retired Deputy Chief Michael Harrington and Deputy Inspector James Grant, who are charged with taking gifts and free vacations from shady businessman Jonah Rechnitz in return for official favo

Corrupt Government Officials are America's Biggest Fear/ Chapman University Poll
Government Corruption beats Terrorism and Fears of Economic Collapse by a mile.  Little wonder, with two presidential candidates who each have crooked foundations (used at a minimum for money-laundering and apparent foreign policy 'quid pro quo's' for the Clinton Foundation).  Hillary stole White House furniture and gifts when she left in 2000, while Trump used donations to his foundation to get a life-size portrait of himself painted.  Trump used bankruptcies to avoid paying his creditors. Hillary blamed a 12 year old for her own rape, successfully defending the rapist, whom she knew was guilty.

These two low lifes do deserve an award of some kind.  How about:  "The person I would least want to house sit for me"?  Or "the most likely to succeed in covering their own or their spouses' sexual assaults"?

Maybe "Tops at stealing under the guise of a philanthropic foundation"?

Please, America, give them their awards.  Make them big, shiny, and definitely gold-plated. Then arrest these two clowns for their many crimes, remind them that felons can't be president or even vote, and let's reset the election season for 2017.

Or just elect Jill Stein for President, who is running as the Green Party candidate.  She tells the truth, she is smart (degrees from Harvard and Harvard Med School), has absolutely no taint of corruption, says what she means without asking a focus group, and cares about the country and world.  She actually tells you her program, and its a very good one. What a novel candidate.

A Retired FBI Agent Addresses James Comey on the Hillary Clinton Investigation
By Hugh Galyen

Mr. James Comey, Director
Federal Bureau of Investigation
J. Edgar Hoover Building
935 Pennsylvania Avenue N.W
Washington, D.C.  20535-0001
Sir,
I am writing regarding your public statement in July, 2016 informing the American people that the FBI investigation of Hillary Clinton was being closed without referring it to a Federal Grand Jury or the Attorney General of the U. S. for a decision whether or not to indict her. Strangely, you eloquently laid out enough of the evidence deduced from the investigation to strongly indicate there was abundant evidence uncovered during the investigation and interview of her to not only indict but to convict her in  Federal Court. However, you personally  re-worded and soft-pedaled the actions she took as Secretary of State describing her actions as "extremely careless” in using a personal email and un-secured server for her communications while Secretary of State. You rewrote the statute, which is not your job.
As a retired Special Agent of the FBI, I have standing to write this letter. My thirty years in law enforcement, including 22 years as a Special Agent with the FBI have given me the knowledge, expertise and experience to question and confront you for your perplexing actions, which (as you well know) were outside the normal standard operating procedure of the FBI and Federal judicial procedures. Some of the finest people in the world proudly carry the credentials of FBI Agent and you have soiled them and not allowed them to speak. But I will not be silent.
Sorry, but NO SIR, MS Clinton was not merely careless or extremely careless. She was not even negligent or grossly negligent (as the statute requires). Hillary Clinton was knowingly purposeful in her decisions and actions to set up a server under her exclusive control and possession in order to control what information was available to the American public and Congress regarding her actions as Secretary of State. Furthermore, she took those government owned communications into her personal possession after leaving her position and knowingly and willingly attempted to destroy them so her nefarious actions could never be known or used as evidence of her corrupt moral character against her.
Sir, what possessed you? Did you cave in to political pressure to unilaterally come to this decision? I fear that is the case, and Rule of Law be damned. I am embarrassed for and ashamed of you. You have set a precedent that can never be rectified… and certainly not justified. Shame on you, Sir. You ought to resign right now in disgrace for what you have done to tarnish the reputation of the finest Law Enforcement Agency in the world… for entirely political reasons.
Normally, an investigation will be assigned to an agent, or team of agents with one being the Case agent, or the lead investigator. When the investigation is complete, an investigative report will be presented to the U.S. Attorney for the Federal District involved.  It would be the U.S. Attorney who decides whether to decline prosecution for that investigation... NOT the FBI agent. But in the Clinton investigation, YOU (unilaterally) decided not to forward the investigation to the U.S. Attorney or the Attorney General of the U.S., but instead personally made the decision not to prosecute her or even provide the information to a Federal Grand Jury.  You were wrong to take this upon yourself.
Sir, in order to indict a subject, only a preponderance of evidence, or 51% is needed for probable cause to exist. You did not think even that level of probability existed? Who do you think you are fooling? What judicial proceeding did you think you were following?
Throughout my years with the FBI, I (along with my fellow agents) took great pride in conducting each investigation in an unbiased manner regardless of the subject’s position or standing in the community.
All were treated equally under the law. But you, Sir, decided to allow this corrupt, evil and nasty human being to go free and unchallenged for her treasonous actions (yes, treasonous, in my opinion) which threatened the security of this nation. Furthermore, you stopped short of investigating the Clinton Foundation as a RICO case (Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organization.  This is a RICO case if
there ever were one. Even an untrained person can tell from the communications which were recovered that Hillary Clinton spent more time working for the Clinton Foundation while Secretary of State than on State Business.  It may be argued that Hillary did not do any State business UNLESS the Clinton Foundation benefitted.  You decided to just let this uncomfortable truth alone without addressing it.
I will conclude with this:  Following my retirement from the FBI, I volunteered for a 12 month tour of duty in Afghanistan as a Law Enforcement Professional, embedded with U.S. forces as a subject matter expert in counter-terrorism investigations.  For most of that year I operated “outside the wire” patrolling with the troops, interviewing witnesses to IED incidents and gathering evidence on the bad guys.  The results of my work would then be reported through secure channels to the Commanding Officer.  All reports and communications were required to be transmitted via secure and encrypted devices.  Occasionally my remote location in the mountains of Afghanistan made transmission impossible and I would have to fly back to Bagram Air Base in order to securely report to the Commander of the battle space.   It would have been convenient if I could have just called the Commander on my personal cell phone or written him an email on my personal laptop.  But, had I done so I would have been reporting classified information via an unsecured device and it could have been compromised. These were, relative to Secretary of State communications, low level classifications of Secret.  Had I ever sent even one in such a manner I would have been prosecuted and sent to Federal Prison for 20 years or so.  That is how serious this violation is considered.
Now, because of you, Hillary Clinton is allowed to continue her RICO activities and is running for President of the United States, the most powerful position in the world.  You have trampled on the Rule of Law and destroyed the trust of the American people in the FBI and in unbiased enforcement of the law.  How do you sleep at night? It is time for you to go and work for the Clinton Foundation.
Sincerely,
Hugh W. Galyean
(FBI Agent, Retired)

Wall Street Journal: FBI’s Investigation into Hillary Clinton Gets More Suspicious

Hillary Clinton

By Editorial Board
Wall Street Journal

Hillary Clinton may win the election in two weeks, but the manner of her victory will bedevil her in the White House. Specifically, evidence keeps turning up suggesting that the FBI probe into her emails was influenced by political favoritism and double standards.

The latest news is the Journal’s report Monday that Virginia Gov.Terry McAuliffe, a longtime friend of Hillary and Bill, steered money to the campaign of the wife of a top FBI official. Political organizations under Mr. McAuliffe’s control gave more than $675,000 to the 2015 Virginia state Senate campaign of Jill McCabe, the wife of FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe. Mr. McCabe, director James Comey’s right-hand man, helped oversee the probe into whether Mrs. Clinton mishandled classified information on her server.

Some $467,500 of the money came directly from Mr. McAuliffe’s political action committee, Common Good VA, while $207,788 came from the Virginia Democratic Party, which the Governor essentially controls. The funds amounted to more than one-third of all the money Mrs. McCabe raised.

Mrs. McCabe announced her candidacy the same month (March 2015) as the news broke about Mrs. Clinton’s private email server. Mr. McCabe was running the FBI’s Washington field office at the time, and he was promoted to the No. 3 FBI slot not long after the formal FBI investigation began in July 2015.

The FBI said in a statement that none of this is an issue because Mr. McCabe wasn’t promoted to the No. 2 position until February 2016, months after his wife lost her race, and only then did he assume “for the first time, an oversight role in the investigation into Secretary Clinton’s emails.”

All of this asks voters to believe that Mr. McCabe as the No. 3 official at the FBI had nothing to do with the biggest, most sensitive case at that agency. This strains credulity.

Two reads about FBI Supervisor Kallstrom

1.

http://www.cashill.com/twa800/fbi_kalls ... illary.htm

The GMan who can stop Hilary.

October 19, 2016 - WND.com

Former Assistant FBI Director Jim Kallstrom is one angry man. Hillary Clinton appalls him, and he is not afraid to say so.

On the John Gibson Radio Show, freed from the restraints he works under on Fox TV, Kallstrom let loose on Hillary’s “clear, clear obstruction of justice” in the e-mail case and FBI Director James Comey’s apparent whitewash of the same.

“She was lying about everything,” Kallstrom said of Hillary’s FBI testimony. “Are we going to become some third world nation that doesn’t care about the law?”

And as to Hillary’s frequent claims of memory lapse, Kallstrom asked, “Is that the mental health of someone we want to be president of the United States?”

For all his outrage, however, Kallstrom knows he can hold a press conference tomorrow and end Hillary’s career. To do so, however, he would throw his own very comfortable life into complete turmoil.

“If you tell the biggest lie over and over again I guess people begin to believe it, Kallstrom said aptly of Hillary, but Kallstrom himself has lived with a very big lie for the last twenty years.

Kallstrom’s lie centers on the fate of TWA Flight 800, the investigation of which he headed.

When Kallstrom arrived on the scene in Long Island the day after the crash in July 1996, the truth was indeed what he was seeking.

By July 30, 1996 -- less than two weeks after the 747 blew up -- FBI agents had interviewed 144 “excellent” witnesses to a missile strike.

As revealed in a recently unearthed CIA memo, the evidence was “overwhelming” and the witness testimony “too consistent” for the cause of the plane’s destruction to be anything other than a missile.

1996 being an election year, however a missile strike on an American airliner involved far too much political risk for the Clinton White House.

I know from my sources and Hillary’s White House logs that she was in the room when political decisions were being made that fateful night.

With her were two other people, President Bill Clinton and deputy national security advisor, Sandy Berger, their ultimate fixer.

Working through the CIA, the White House took effective control of the investigation. For reasons only he knows, after an obvious struggle, Kallstrom knuckled under.

This epic misdirection climaxed with a November 1997 press conference announcing the suspension of the FBI investigation.

There, Kallstrom set forth a bill of particulars that misled the public on almost every detail. The most spectacular bit of deceit was a specious CIA animation created to discredit the eyewitnesses and lay the blame for the crash on some inexplicable and unprecedented mechanical malfunction.

Those interested in the details can read my new book my book, TWA 800: The Crash, The Cover-Up, The Conspiracy.

For the short course, you can check out my Book-TV presentation on this subject that debuted on C-SPAN II last week. http://cs.pn/2ejfmxB

I made the presentation at the TWA Museum in Kansas City. As the audience and I both knew, 53 TWA employees were killed in the crash.

As I told those in attendance, I would not dishonor the memory of the dead—nor would the Museum have let me—If I were merely peddling some conspiracy theory.

Kallstrom knows, as I know, what happened to TWA 800. When I watch him on Fox-TV I find myself feeling sorry for the man. He helped construct a case he knew to be fraudulent, and he had to sense just how fragile the construction was.

If it collapsed, the CIA analysts could run and hide. The NTSB bureaucrats could plead ignorance, and the Clintons could seek executive privilege.

He alone would have to answer to the victims’ mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters. Nothing the courts might throw at him would wound that deeply.

Whether he knows it or not, Kallstrom has lost face with the millions of people who have followed this case for the last twenty years.

If he read the blistering emails I receive about his every appearance on Fox News, he would not want to show that face in public.

With one very public and painful press conference, however, he could repair his reputation with at least half of America and restore his soul.

This would take an heroic act of will. Kallstrom knows what’s at stake. If you have access to him, remind him at #Kallstromknows.

Fifty years ago this month, the Black Panther Party was born. Its history holds vital lessons for today’s movement to confront racism and police violence, yet textbooks either misrepresent or minimize the significance of the Black Panthers.

The first issue of the Black Panther newspaper, which at its height had a weekly circulation of 140,000 copies, asked, “WHY WAS DENZIL DOWELL KILLED?” Helping Dowell’s family demand justice in Richmond, California, was one of the first major organizing campaigns of the Black Panther Party. Anyone reading the story of Denzil Dowell today can’t help but draw parallels to the unarmed Black men and women regularly murdered by the police. The disparity between the police’s story and the victim’s family’s, the police harassment Dowell endured before his murder, the jury letting off Dowell’s killer, even the reports that Dowell had his hands raised while he was gunned down, eerily echo the police killings today that have led to the explosion of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Yet when we learn about the early years of the Panthers, the organizing they did in Richmond—conducting their own investigation into Dowell’s death, confronting police who harassed Dowell’s family, helping mothers in the community organize against abuse at the local school, organizing armed street rallies in which hundreds filled out applications to join the party—is almost always absent. Armed with a revolutionary socialist ideology, as the Panthers grew, so did what they organized around. They fought in Black communities across

Fruhmenschen, from all this research and from making your name a little more public with activities you've posted about like your conference, what level of harassment have you received from law enforcement in your life?

I ask because just last night one of my fair housing activist groups had to have a discussion about how to handle police. Even our smallest actions, if they involve a group larger than 1, have drawn ire from the cops. The debate is whether to disengage, to put the young white people on the front (since we're about 50% non-white and those we take action against have been known to call police with reports of "armed black people," causing the cops to come in really hot against our members who are people of color (but never the white people), to engage harder only in large numbers, to invoke Sun Tsu-esque distraction/action and strategic disruption, etc.

Last night was sort of a funny confrontation, but not laugh-out-loud funny. It involved some members making themselves very annoying to a group of extremely wealthy people who were hosting some slumlords.

This made the pigs very sad.

Matt Damon explains why he made this surprising new film
By Valerie Strauss October 28 at 12:50 P

[Why the movement to privatize public education is a very bad idea]

The description also notes that the term “backpack full of cash” refers to the belief by corporate reformers that every child should be allowed to take their share of public education dollars — their “backpack full of cash” — to any school they want, charter, religious, online or public. (The problems with such a system are many: Public money shouldn’t be used for religious purposes; traditional school systems, which educate the vast majority of students, need dependable budgets to properly operate; and the public has little or no oversight over private, religious and charter schools.) The title could equally refer to the billions of dollars that private philanthropists have spent in recent years to privatize the public education system through pet projects that have no research to back up their effectiveness.

“Backpack” was directed and co-produced by Sarah Mondale, president and co-director of Stone Lantern who is also a public school teacher in New York. She directed and co-produced the 2001 four-part series titled “School” — and she was nominated for an Emmy for her direction of “Asylum: A History of the Mental Institutions in America.” The film makers are seeking funding via a Kickstarter campaign to complete final work on the film and distribute and promote it.

The film makers got Damon, who has been vocal about the importance of public education for years, to narrate it. In an email, Damon explained why he agreed:

“I got involved in the making of ‘Backpack Full of Cash’ because it tells the important story of how current education reform policies are increasing inequality and causing harm to our most vulnerable children.

The expansion of charter schools is draining funds from our public schools and benefiting some children while leaving others behind with fewer resources. We need a public school system that gives every child an equal chance to a great education.

I had that chance in the public schools I attended and I want to see it given — fairly and on an even playing field — to every child in our nation.

“Backpack Full of Cash” helps us realize that true education equity will come when we address the deeper issues underlying education inequality such as child poverty, racial segregation, and the unequal funding of our schools.”

Supporters of the  privatization of public education say that outsourcing school management and running public schools like businesses is more efficient than allowing government to do the job. Critics say civic institutions can’t be properly run like businesses in part because children aren’t widgets.

According to Samuel E. Abrams, director of the National Center for the Study of Privatization in Education at Columbia University’s Teachers College, whose recent book, “Education and the Commercial Mindset,” details how and why market forces have become important in corporate school reform:

… where there is insufficient transparency for proper contract enforcement, the free market fails. Laissez-faire enthusiasts neglected to differentiate discrete (that is, easily measurable) from complex services. In the case of schooling, which is a classic complex service, the direct consumer is a child, who is in little position to judge whether classes are being properly taught. The parent, taxpayer and legislator are at a necessary distance. And standardized testing as a check on quality is rife with problems. It isn’t merely that teachers and principals under tremendous pressure to raise test scores can correct wrong answers on bubble sheets, as documented in Atlanta most notably, but they can also give students more time to complete tests and lend help in the process. More fundamentally, heavy reliance on standardized testing leads to teaching to the test, which means crowding out instruction in subjects that aren’t tested, particularly art, music, crafts and play, which are fundamental to a well-rounded education.

Damon’s involvement is the latest in a string of education-related activities. In March 2011, he said during a television interview that President Obama’s standardized test-based school reform policies had disappointed him. Two months later, Obama took a shot at Damon in a comic address to the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, saying:

“I’ve even let down my key core constituency: movie stars. Just the other day, Matt Damon — I love Matt Damon, love the guy — Matt Damon said he was disappointed in my performance. Well, Matt, I just saw ‘The Adjustment Bureau’ so . . . right back atcha, buddy.”

Then in July of the same year, Damon came to Washington and delivered a speech at the Save Our Schools rally where teachers, parents and others protested the Obama administration’s standardized test-based school reform policies. Damon came at the request of his mother, Nancy Carlsson-Paige, a well-known child development expert and professor emeritus at Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass., who was involved with the rally.

The administration at the time was concerned enough about his speech to attempt to arrange a meeting, with then-Education Secretary Arne Duncan offering to meet Damon at the airport and talk to him on the drive into the city, according to sources at the time. Damon refused.

In 2014, Damon had an online conversation with fans on Reddit and among the subjects he discussed was his opposition to standardized test-based school reform and the exclusion of teachers from the shaping of education policy.

And now, he has narrated “Backpack Full of Cash.”

How the Federal Government Is Using the US's Concern With Bullying as an Excuse to Spy on Teens
Friday, 28 October 2016 00:00

The Obama administration is instructing the multiple federal agencies behind the national Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) program to "find opportunities" to integrate into bullying prevention networks at the local level, according to a strategic plan released by the White House last week. The move could open the door for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Department of Justice (DOJ) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to apply a counter-terror mentality to youth wellness and safety, in a national environment where law enforcement already plays an outsized role in the education system.
The new guidelines are already raising concerns among civil rights advocates, who say that a federal counter-terror program has no place in school discipline -- and will only put children at greater risk of being funneled into the prison system or suffering mistreatment themselves.
The CVE program has been dogged by civil rights concerns since it was launched five years ago to "address ideologically inspired violent extremism in the Homeland." The three pilot programs rolled out under CVE in 2015 exclusively targeted Muslim-American communities, prompting charges of ethnic and religious profiling. Scholars, meanwhile, warn that the very premise underlying CVE -- that violent extremists can be profiled, identified and stopped before they commit an act of terror -- has been challenged by a strong academic consensus, which finds that there is no single pathway to "terrorism."
The latest version of the plan doubles down on the most widely-opposed aspects of the CVE program, including "local intervention teams" via which health practitioners, faith-based leaders and educators will collaborate with law enforcement.
But one line, in particular, caught civil rights campaigners by surprise. The document states that the CVE Task Force, comprised of th

Lou Dobbs’ Rant About ‘Mormon Mafia’ Becomes Twitter’s Best New Hashtag
Don’t mess with Mormons.

10/27/2016 01:58 am ET |
Fox Business host Lou Dobbs recently fired off an angry tweet about Evan McMullin, the third-party conservative running neck-and-neck with GOP nominee Donald Trump in Utah.

McMullin’s strong showing is threatening to hand the state to Democrat Hillary Clinton, or he could win the state’s six electoral votes himself ― a notion that has Trump supporters such as Dobbs steamed enough to blame a “Mormon Mafia.”

Although the tweet was published over the weekend, it was widely retweeted late Wednesday and led to the birth of a new hashtag: #MormonMafia.

Comey Praises Brave F.B.I. Agents Who Had to Touch Anthony Weiner’s Computer —Borowitz

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—James Comey, the embattled director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, presided over a special ceremony on Friday evening to commend the brave F.B.I. agents who had to touch Anthony Weiner’s computer.

In awarding the commendations to the agents, whom Comey called “the bravest men and women this country has to offer,” the F.B.I. director criticized the political uproar that he said had overshadowed “their selfless acts of heroism.”

“These agents have performed far and beyond the call of duty,” a visibly angry Comey said. “I know we’re eleven days away from an election and tensions are running high, but we shouldn’t let that subtract in any way from what these brave agents did with their own hands.”

“Who among us could look at ourselves in the mirror and say, ‘I have what it takes to touch Anthony Weiner’s computer’?” Comey asked. “I know I sure as hell couldn’t.”

Harland Dorrinson, one of the agents who received the official commendation, acknowledged that touching Weiner’s computer was “the toughest mission I’ve been on” since signing up with the F.B.I. “I spent two weeks undercover in El Chapo’s drug cartel, and this was much scarier,” he said.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – The supervisor of the Harrisburg Bureau of Police’s vice unit is facing federal charges. He’s accused of stealing money during undercover sting operations.

Sources say there are accusations Cpl. Sean Cornick was shaking down drug dealers. Now, he could face years in prison.

“Number one, it does send a message to other police officers that they’re not above the law, that they have to abide by the laws they’re asked to enforce,” national civil rights lawyer Devon M. Jacob said.

This type of arrest also builds confidence in police, said Jacob, whose law practice is based in Mechanicsburg.

The red flags in this case, he said, set off the right alarm bells.

“It’s when the alarm systems aren’t in place that there’s a problem,” he said, “and unfortunately there are a lot of departments that don’t have the proper checks and balances in place.”

It looks like they’re in place here, Jacob said.

Police arrested the 19-year Harrisburg police veteran on federal theft charges. Investigators say the vice unit supervisor was caught on camera stealing money from a police evidence locker.

In memory of Vince Foster who cannot rest in peace
By World Tribune on October 30, 201

Allegations of cover-up by lead investigator

Kenneth Starr’s at-the-time lead investigator, US attorney Miguel Rodriguez,[8] emphatically disagreed with Starr’s conclusion that Foster committed suicide, referring to photographs and medical testimony suggesting a second gunshot wound on Foster’s neck, evidence he asserts Starr suppressed.[9] Concerning the cover-up, he wrote in his resignation letter, “As an ethical person, I don’t believe I could be involved in what they were doing.”[10]

Other theories

James Norman, former senior editor at Forbes Magazine, discussed[11] and wrote about Vince Foster having a Swiss bank account and possible espionage.[12] An FBI interview report by agent Russell Bransford and a handwritten note from the Office of Independent Counsel found at the National Archives refer to Vincent Foster’s Swiss bank account.[13]

The comments of Patrick Knowlton, a grand jury witness who had been at the park where Foster’s body was found, were included as part of Starr’s Report over Starr’s objection. Judge John D. Butzner wrote to Judges Peter Fay and David Sentelle after Knowlton submitted a motion that his comments be included as part of an appendix to the final report, “I suspect that if we deny this motion we will be charged as conspirators in the cover-up,” and concluded “I suggest we let the motion and attachments speak for themselves.”[14] Judge Peter Fay wrote that Knowlton contradicted “specific factual matters and takes issue with the very basics of the report” filed by Kenneth Starr.[15] Knowlton’s comments were ordered[16]included as part of the official report on September 26, 1997. Two days later, Kenneth Starr filed a 9-page motion[17] to appeal that the comments by Knowlton not be included in the report. The next day, Starr’s motion was denied[18] and Knowlton’s comments were included as part of the final official Report on the Death of Vincent W. Foster.[19]

John H. Clarke, attorney for Patrick Knowlton, argued that by using the FBI, the Office of Independent Counsel employed “the very agency it [was] designed to be independent from, the Justice Department.”[20] Clark further stated “The investigation under the auspices of…Mr. Fiske was little more than an FBI investigation. Publicly available official federal government records indicate that throughout the 16-day U.S. Park Police investigation into the case, FBI participation was significant.[21] Attorney Clarke’s letter argues, “The publicly available federal government record upon which the Fiske Report is based is replete with evidence that the FBI concealed the true facts surrounding Mr. Foster’s death.”[22]

The Arkansas Project

On May 2, 1999, the Washington Post published new details on the pursuit of a Vincent Foster conspiracy in an article by David Brock, a key figure in the Troopergate and Whitewater scandals whose disillusionment with the political corruption motivating what would come to be known as the Arkansas Project ended his lifelong commitment to the Conservative movement and facilitated public dissemination of insider details on G.O.P. machinations. The article explains how Brock was “summoned” to a meeting with Rex Armistead in Miami, Florida at an airport hotel. Brock claims that Armistead laid out for him an elaborate “Vince Foster murder scenario” – a scenario that he found implausible.[23]

In an interview for Salon.com in 2000, Brock also revealed that he and Armistead received funding throughout Clinton’s two terms in office from Richard Scaife for the initiative known as the Arkansas Project.[24] The Project aimed to discredit the sitting president and first lady through investigations into a range of issues that could potentially prove problematic for the couple, from rehashed drug smuggling allegations to their long-standing relationship with Foster and other professionals/officials in Arkansas.

Another prominent reporter to have received funds from Scaife was Christopher W. Ruddy[25] – a former writer for the Scaife-owned Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (and later founder of NewsMax). Eventually, Scaife became the third-largest stockholder of Ruddy’s Newsmax;[26] and both NewsMax and the WorldNetDaily continued to publish materials that showed the Clintons in a negative light.[27]

Ruddy also enjoyed the backing of Joseph Farah and Farah’s organization, the Western Journalism Center. This group supplied him with “additional expense money, funding for Freedom of Information Act requests, legal support and publicity” around his book deal & the requisite research into a conspiracy surrounding Foster’s death.[28] He published his findings in 1997 under the title The Strange Death of Vincent Foster (pub. Simon & Schuster).[29] In the book, he discusses mistakes and transgressions that occurred in the original investigations – in particular, alleged obstruction of justice by White House Counsel Bernard Nussbaum – but stops short of positing an original theory on the circumstances surrounding Foster’s death. Interviews revealed his person

Distracted by Election 2016, No-one Resisted the Deep State’s Patriot Act 2

Nathaniel Mauka, Staff Writer
Waking Times

Congress overwhelmingly voted for the Patriot Act nearly 16 years ago, and our civil liberties have never been the same since. As if this singular bill, passed by George W. Bush, wasn’t invasive enough, allowing big banks to demand our internet data, and more — the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA) makes cyber-spying by the shadow government and the financial entities controlling it, a forgone conclusion.

As with most shadow government legislation, the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act is packed with hidden surveillance allowances. CISA was quietly passed to allow government to demand that private companies hand over personal information to them at will. It also allows companies to mine data, under the auspices of government-created urgency.

The mere fact that this act passed in late 2015 is monumental, since it has been before Congress in different forms for over a decade. The election seems to have offered the perfect cover, as Americans and activists were too busy arguing over Trump vs. Hillary.

Scott Talbott, senior vice president of government relations at the Electronic Transactions Association believes the value of sharing our personal data as a means to be alerted of ‘cyber threats’ outweighs any hazard to our civil liberties. Talbott states,

“The value is that everyone can be alerted to cyber threats and take precautionary countermeasures before they materialize and spread,” he said. “Before CISA, corrective measures could be taken only after the cyber threat had done its damage. CISA allows each company to serve as an early warning system to the entire economy.”

Who exactly would be determining if someone is a ‘threat’ is the meat of the sandwich, though. CISA is ripe for abuse, just as the Patriot Act has been.

The Patriot Act has made it legal for law enforcement to spy on people, without probable cause – to enter their homes, or even to strip search them before they’ve been to court, had the opportunity to argue a case, or given ‘authorities’ a motive for this type of interrogation.

The stated purpose of the Patriot Act was to deter terrorist acts in the United States, but what do you do when the terrorists have already taken over your country? CISA simply expands the reach of a shadow government which has already been proven to reach beyond the boundaries of constitutional law.

More importantly, who specifically is CISA targeting? After multiple hackers have infiltrated computer systems at the White House, the State Department, the Pentagon, and the Office of Personnel Management, along with the Democratic National Committee, and numerous multinational banks run by the cabal, is the shadow government simply

Why Oregon Standoff Verdicts Set Dangerous and Far-Reaching Precedent
Malheur acquittals raise stakes for next year’s trial in Nevada and beyond
byTaylor McKinnon

A member of the Oregon chapter of the Oath Keepers stands guard at the Sugar Pine Mine in Medford, Oregon in this file image. (Photo: Reuters)
I was nearly killed earlier this year while counter-protesting the paramilitary seizure of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon. After accusing me of being an FBI agent, the armed occupiers there worked themselves into a mob. Hog-faced militia thugs barked, “he’s a fed.” Some pawed their pistols. I was told snipers were trained on us. It was dangerously close to violence.

"The cradling of the Bundy’s media circus at Malheur, and the government’s over-confident bungling of the ensuing prosecution—sets a dangerous and far-reaching precedent for the kind of paramilitary intimidation and right-wing violence that underpins their movement."
For weeks last January a small rag-tag group of public lands supporters protested the Malheur occupiers. There was a handful of us, and dozens of them—all 30 miles from the nearest law enforcement. We crashed press conferences, staged counter protests, and marched into their occupied barracks with signs. We were threatened, harassed, blasted with bull horns and trailed by thugs with assault rifles.

We saw first-hand what was live-streamed to the world: An illegal paramilitary seizure of one of the crown jewels of our national wildlife refuge system, and the months-long social, cultural, economic, and environmental terrorization of an entire community. So, like many others, I was jarred by last Thursday’s acquittal of seven defendants: How could such an obvious, video-taped crime could go unpunished? Here’s how: Federal fumbling.

The Bundy clan and their followers peddle a dangerous brand of radicalism. Their core ideas—that the federal government lacks authority to own public land, and that county sheriffs are the highest form of law enforcement—are rooted in hard-right racist ideologies created to sidestep federal civil rights laws by elevating local authority. They’re perfectly suited to ranchers, like Cliven Bundy, who refused to pay deeply subsidized federal grazing fees.

After Cliven Bundy’s 2014 Nevada standoff—where militia thugs with assault rifles stood down federal officials corralling Cliven’s illegally-grazing cows—the Obama administration did nothing. The standoff was a big win for anti-government militants, and in the two years following, facing no arrests or federal enforcement, the movement grew, spawning the Malheur seizure last winter.

"It’s a stepping stone toward fascism, not nonviolent civil disobedience."
There, the kids-gloves stayed on. Militants were free to come and go from the refuge. They visited town, harassed locals, and crashed community meetings armed. They held press conferences, trenched Burns Paiute sacred sites, and shook hands with the FBI in front of news cameras. And because refuge employees were told to stay home, the jury could cynically find that the lynchpin charge in the government’s boldly-narrow prosecution—that occupiers had conspired to impede federal employees from doing their jobs—wasn’t supported by evidence.

All of this—the federal inaction following the Nevada standoff, the cradling of the Bundy’s media circus at Malheur, and the government’s over-confident bungling of the ensuing prosecution—sets a dangerous and far-reaching precedent for the kind of paramilitary intimidation and right-wing violence that underpins their movement. Social change in America depends on nonviolent civil disobedience, like the brutal struggles of indigenous activists in North Dakota and Black Lives Matter activists throughout the U.S. But right-wing paramilitary intimidation is different. It’s a stepping stone toward fascism, not nonviolent civil disobedience. Its rise should concern anyone who cares about America’s public lands, civil rights, and a political system that refuses to be bullied by violenc

American Express disowns Pink Floyd singer Roger Waters because of pro-Palestinian views

When it comes to aiding Israeli Apartheid, American Express is just another brick in The Wall, according to a new report.

Roger Waters, lead singer behind Pink Floyd, lost a multimillion dollar American Express sponsorship for his 2017 US+Them tour after expressing solidarity this month with Palestinian students trying to end Israel’s apartheid system of military occupation using the same protest tactic that helped dismantle South African Apartheid (and, earlier, America’s Jim Crow): Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions, or BDS.

“I’m going to send out all of my most heartfelt love and support to all those young people on the campuses of the universities of California who are standing up for their brothers and sisters in Palestine and supporting the BDS movement,” Rogers said, according to CBS News, “in the hope that we may encourage the government of Israel to end the occupation.”

American Express decided it would be a good idea to leak the cancellation of the contract to the New York Post, where Page Six’s Emily Smith has the exclusive story.

“Roger is putting on a huge show. The company was asked to sponsor his tour for $4 million, but pulled out because it did not want to be part of his anti-Israel rhetoric,” an American Express spokesman told the paper. “We never committed to sponsoring Roger Waters’ upcoming tour. When we were approached with the options, w

Quotes by Caroline Myss

“If anyone tries to complicate your life, turn and walk away from them.”
“Whenever you become empowered, you will be tested.”
“You are afraid of your own empowerment  as much as those around you are of you becoming empowered.”
“Always go with the choice that scares you the most, because that’s the one that is going to require the most from you. “
“I firmly believe that intuitive or symbolic sight is not a gift but a skill–a skill based in self-esteem.”
“Do not assume that divine guidance flows only when you are in need of help. Guidance continues to flow whether or not you have problems. It transcends problems, heartbreaks, and traumas, flowing through dreams and illuminations. Whether guidance comes during times of tranquility or trauma, however, it is up to you to have the courage to acknowledge it”
“We grow primarily through our challenges, especially those life-changing moments when we begin to recognize aspects of our nature that make us different from the family and culture in which we have been raised.””When we harbor negative emotions toward others or toward ourselves, or when we intentionally create pain for others, we poison our own physical and spiritual systems. By far the strongest poison to the human spirit is the inability to forgive oneself or another person. It disables a person’s emotional resources. The challenge is to refine our capacity to love others as well as ourselves and to develop the power of forgiveness. “
“Forgiveness is no longer an option but a necessity for healing.”
“The soul always knows what to do to heal itself. The challenge is to silence the mind.”
“Our goal while on this earth is to transcend our illusions and discover the innate power of our spirit. We are responsible for what we create, and we must therefore learn to act and think with love and wisdom and live in service to others and all life.”
“The forgiving heart is capable of anything. I believe that deeply. And that’s where in terms of becoming an empowered individual….when you get to the point where you realize you can look at someone and say “I love myself enough – not in a schmaltzy garbage sense, Hallmark stuff, I’m talking respect myself – I respect my life-force enough to no longer waste it.”
“One of the greatest struggles of the healing process is to forgive both yourself and others and to stop expending valuable energy on the past hurts.”

NYPD: Hillary Clinton 'Child Sex Scandal' About To Break
Source: YourNewsWire

November 2, 2016 •

New York Police Department (NYPD) detectives have uncovered evidence of a 'child sex ring' on Anthony Weiner's laptop that they say could "put Hillary Clinton away for life".

According to NYPD sources, files found on Weiner's newly found laptop which he shared with his wife Huma Abedin, show evidence of a political pedophile ring operating within Washington, involving members of Congress as well as numerous top Clinton aides and insiders.

According to reports, a folder on Weiner's laptop named "life insurance" contains explicit evidence that both Hillary Clinton and Huma Abedin helped run and cover-up a Washington pedophile sex ring.

Truepundit.com reports:

NYPD sources said these new emails include evidence linking Clinton herself and associates to:
• Money laundering
• Child exploitation
• Sex crimes with minors (children)
• Perjury Pay to play through
• Clinton Foundation
• Obstruction of justice
• Other felony crimes
NYPD detectives and a NYPD Chief, the department's highest rank under Commissioner, said openly that if the FBI and Justice Department fail to garner timely indictments against Clinton and co- conspirators, NYPD will go public with the damaging emails now in the hands of FBI Director James Comey and many FBI field offices.

"What's in the emails is staggering and as a father, it turned my stomach," the NYPD Chief said. "There is not going to be any Houdini-like escape from what we found. We have copies of everything. We will ship them to Wikileaks or I will personally hold my own press conference if it comes to that."

The NYPD Chief said once Comey saw the alarming contents of the emails he was forced to reopen a criminal probe against Clinton.

"People are going to prison," he said.

Meanwhile, FBI sources said Abedin and Weiner were cooperating with federal agents, who have taken over the non-sexting portions the case from NYPD. The husband-and-wife Clinton insiders are both shopping for separate immunity deals, sources said.

"If they don't cooperate they are going to see long sentences," a federal law enforcement source said.

NYPD sources said Weiner or Abedin stored all the emails in a massive Microsoft Outlook program on the laptop. The emails implicate other current and former members of Congress and one high-ranking Democratic Senator as having possibly engaged in criminal activity too, sources said.

Prosecutors in the office of US Attorney Preet Bharara have issued a subpoena for Weiner's cell phones and travel records, law enforcement sources confirmed. NYPD said it planned to order the same phone and travel records on Clinton and Abedin, however, the FBI said it was in the process of requesting the identical records. Law enforcement sources are particularly interested in cell phone activity and travel to the Bahamas, U.S. Virgin Islands and other locations that sources would not divulge.

The new emails contain travel documents and itineraries indicating Hillary Clinton, President Bill Clinton, Weiner and multiple members of Congress and other government officials accompanied convicted pedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein on his Boeing 727 on multiple occasions to his private island in the U.S Virgin Islands, sources said. Epstein's island has also been dubbed Orgy Island or Sex Slave Island where Epstein allegedly pimps out underage girls and boys to international dignitaries.

Both NYPD and FBI sources confirm based on the new emails they now believe Hillary Clinton traveled as Epstein’s guest on at least six occasions, probably more when all the evidence is combed, sources said. Bill Clinton, it has been confirmed in media reports spanning recent years, that he too traveled with Epstein over 20 times to the island.

“Aberration in the Heartland of the Real: The Secret Lives of Timothy McVeigh”

and it’s must reading. This is compelling stuff.

There are four to six paragraphs in the prologue that provide an overview for all crimes of the deep state that are simply some of the best material written on the topic.

I’ve just finished the section on McVeigh during the Gulf War, the Basra highway turkey shoot, the bulldozer assault, and much more. Every American ought to read this.

The author describes the Gulf War as a “war whose carefully-constructed spectacular prime-time entertainment value qualified it as the first hyper-real post-modern info-war. The mass mediated murderous extravaganza masked its managers’ surreal and brutal genocidal, ecocidal and homocidal New World visions”.

Her next work is based on the research of Cheri Seymour, whose book “The Last Circle” I devoured (and reviewed) years ago; Dr. Painting has become an expert in in the investigative research of author Seymour, herself a private investigator and journalist.

The first footnote for the third chapter of the book speaks of “ Fusion Paranoia ”, a term coined by Michael Kelly in 1995, which refers to “the convergence of political wings in the conspiracy theory milieu”.

The second footnote for the third chapter details Peter Knight’s description of the “canon” of conspiracy theory.

The book is deeply and meticulously footnoted, there is a bibliography and a master document bibliography, and it is indexed. There is already a very small number of errata listed at her web site and a note that these will be corrected in a forthcoming second edition.

To purchase the book from Trine-Day, click here.

“Presenting startling new biographical details about Timothy McVeigh and exposing stark contradictions and errors contained in previous depictions of the “All-American Terrorist,” this book traces McVeigh’s life from childhood to the Army, throughout the plot to bomb the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building and the period after his 1995 arrest until his 2001 execution.

McVeigh’s life, as author Wendy Painting describes it, offers a backdrop for her discussion of not only several intimate and previously unknown details about him, but a number of episodes and circumstances in American History as well, including Cold War popular culture, all-American apocalyptic fervor, organized racism, contentious politics, militarism, warfare, conspiracy theories, bioethical controversies, mind control, the media’s construction of villains and demons , and institutional secrecy and cover-ups. All these stories are examined, compared, and tested in Aberration in the Heartland of the Real, making this book a much closer examination into the personality and life of Timothy McVeigh than has been provided by any other biographical work about him.”

“Wendy S. Painting, PhD, is a professor of U.S. history at Empire State College and works as a freelance investigative researcher. Her extensive and seminal investigatory research into the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing and Timothy McVeigh distinguishes her as a leading national expert on both subjects. She coauthored and coproduced the

Warden admits showing prisoners violent sexual films in 'shame therapy'
The head of a Hawaiian jail is being sued for allegedly subjecting female prisoners to sexual humiliation and discrimination

‘Shame therapy is talking about things that are deep within a person,’ prison warden Neal Wagatsuma told a court in Hawaii.
Wednesday 2 November 2016 23.48 EDT

The warden of a Hawaii jail has admitted showing inmates violent sexual films as part of a program he created that includes what he calls “shame therapy”.

Neal Wagatsuma, warden of Kauai community correctional center, began testifying in Honolulu on Wednesday in a trial for a lawsuit that accuses him of retaliating against a former jail social worker who alleged he subjected female inmates to sexual humiliation and discrimination.

Ever since the mid-1990s there have been rumors that he shows pornography to inmates at the mixed prison, but the videos are not porn, he said: “I would never do that.”

She’s finally done it. The country faces a possible constitutional crisis should Hillary win the election. With a federal criminal investigation of the possible president-elect underway, President Obama might well issue a preemptive presidential pardon on his way out the door. Imagine that. Pardoned before inaugurated. Or she will find a way to pardon herself for “the good of the country.” It will simply never end.
If the past portends the future, we should ponder that which came before. The tale of four partners of the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock, Arkansas is a good place to start. They came to Washington, DC with Bill Clinton in 1993. You couldn’t turn a corner in the West Wing without bumping into one or all of them. Webster Hubbell became Associate Attorney General of the United States. He ended up in a federal pen. Vince Foster became Deputy Counsel to the President and he was found dead by gunshot in Fort Marcy Park. Bill Kennedy became an Associate White House Counsel and was neck deep in Filegate and Travelgate. He also oversaw the ubiquitous Craig Livingstone, the former bar bouncer personally chosen by the First Lady to head the Office of White House Security. Together, Bill Kennedy and Craig Livingstone were the ones to officially identify the body of Vince Foster. I knew them all. Of the four partners, only one is left standing. She is currently

Anthony Weiner's 16-year-old alleged sexting victim blasts FBI director

2016-11-02 11:40 p.m. | Last updated 2016-11-02 11:40 p.m.

In an open letter, the young woman whose sexually explicit online conversations with disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner ignited a national firestorm blasted FBI Director James Comey for his role in politicizing her plight and subjecting her to unwanted scrutiny from the media.

“I am the 15-year-old (now 16) who was the victim of Anthony Weiner,” the woman wrote in a letter published by BuzzFeed. “I now add you to the list of people who have victimized me. I told my story originally to protect other young girls that might be a victim of online predators.”

The woman, whose identity media outlets have kept hidden in an effort to protect her privacy, recalled how, not 10 minutes after she concluded a seven-hour interview with FBI agents regarding allegations that Weiner broke the law in sending her sexually explicit electronic messages, she received a phone call from a reporter asking about 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Weiner's estranged wife, Huma Abedin, is a close adviser to the former secretary of state. When law enforcement officials confiscated Weiner's computer as part of their investigation

Hoover`s Sexuality, Mob Ties
February 9, 1993|By TOM JICHA, TV/Radio Writer
Frontline does unto J. Edgar Hoover as he did unto others.

The PBS documentary series tonight peeps into the bedroom and other seamy aspects of the man who guided the FBI for almost a half-century. Two wrongs might not make a right, but they do make for an explosive and deliciously scandalous hour.

Frontline contends that Hoover was ``personally corrupt, sexually compromised and tainted by ties to organized crime.``

It also alleges Hoover used surreptitiously obtained evidence of John F. Kennedy`s womanizing to blackmail him into offering the vice presidency to Lyndon B. Johnson, a Hoover ally.

Frontline also repeats and elaborates on the belief that Hoover, who labeled homosexuals ``sex deviants,`` had a homosexual relationship with his aide Clyde Tolson. In addition to the hypocrisy involved, Hoover`s sexual orientation is significant because organized crime found out about it and used the threat of exposing him to keep the FBI off its case.

Anthony Summers, author of the Hoover biography Official and Confidential, said notorious mob figure Meyer Lansky was one of those who had pictures of Hoover and Tolson in a compromising situation. ``Lansky controlled the pictures and he had made his deal with Hoover to lay off,`` Summers said.

A fashion model who, with her date, socialized with Hoover and Tolson one New Year`s, said she saw Hoover and Tolson holding hands in the backseat of a car. Later that evening, she says she heard Tolson express a desire to dance with Hoover at the Cotton Club in Harlem. The irony is, Hoover was livid at the time because he saw an interracial couple on the dance floor, according to the woman.

Susan Rosenstiel, wife of Louis Rosenstiel, who is identified as a mob- connected bootlegger, says she went to a party at New York`s Plaza Hotel, where she was promised a surprise. She was greeted at the door by a man in ``a black chiffon dress, very short with ruffles, and black lace stockings and high-heeled shoes and a black curly wig and black eyelashes.``

The person was introduced to her as Mary. ``It was clearly J. Edgar Hoover,`` she says.

Later, two teen-aged boys arrived, according to Susan Rosenstiel, and Hoover, Roy Cohn and her husband went into the bedroom and had sex with them.

``I heard (her husband Louis) Rosenstiel say that if Hoover ever brings pressure against Lansky or any of us, we`ll use this as blackmail.``

Throughout his career, Hoover claimed there was no such thing as a national crime family. He insisted organized crime was a local problem, which put it outside the jurisdiction of the FBI.

Ralph Salerno, head of the New York Committee on Organized Crime, says the hands-off policy had dire ramifications. ``If they (the mob) could have been attacked before they grew, before they got the wealth, before they got the knowledge, organized crime could have been nipped in the bud ... (the mob) never would have grown as strong as it got to be in later decades.``

Another reason Hoover might have gone easy on the mob, it is offered, is that he liked to play the horses, and the bookmakers he used to place bets were all mob backed. What`s more, it adds, Hoover had the kind of arrangement gamblers dream of.

According to Mrs. Rosenstiel, ``(My husband) would call the boys up and they would make the bets. If Hoover won, he got paid. If he didn`t win, they would just forget it.``

Gambling debts evidently were not all Hoover didn`t pay. He reportedly never picked up a check.

Also, John Dowd, head of the government`s Organized Crime Strike Force, says, ``Four years after Hoover died, I was assigned to conduct an investigation of 40 years of fraud and corruption by J. Edgar Hoover, in which he had taken at taxpayers` expense, goods and services provided to him by employees of the FBI.``

These perks included elaborate vacations disguised as business trips; using his government limos -- he had three -- for personal pleasure; using FBI personnel to service his lawn and to embellish and furnish his home.

Dowd also cites an incident his investigation uncovered that illustrates how petty Hoover c

Arnold Mesches, a socially conscious painter whose political activities were harrassed and recorded by the F.B.I. for more than 25 years in a thick dossier that he later used for his series “The F.B.I. Files,” died on Saturday at his home in Gainesville, Fla. He was 93.

His death was confirmed by his wife, the novelist Jill Ciment.

Mr. Mesches (pronounced MESH-ees) was a scenic artist in Hollywood when his work for the Communist Party came to the attention of the F.B.I. in 1945. A file the bureau started began filling up quickly the next year, when he dropped his work as a storyboard artist on a Tarzan film and took part in a strike against the studios.

Over the years, agents and informers kept track of Mr. Mesches’s day-to-day activities, reporting to headquarters on matters large and small. If he signed a petition, it went into his file. When he turned in an illustration for Mad magazine, the fact was duly noted. One informant, noting his paint-spattered pants, wrote that Mr. Mesches “dressed like a Communist.”

In 1956 most of his artwork was stolen from his studio, including dozens of paintings and drawings inspired by the trial and execution of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, convicted of spying for the Soviet Union. He strongly suspected that the F.B.I. was behind the break-in.

And so it went until 1972, when the surveillance sputtered to its conclusion.

In the late 1990s, Mr. Mesches obtained his file under the Freedom of Information Act and reaped a bonanza of 760 pages, with classified information ruled over in heavy black lines. They had a certain look, he decided.

“I saw other people’s files and realized they were aesthetically beautiful,” he told The New York Times in 2003. “Kind of like Franz Kline sketches. Those big, black slashes where they block things out.”

Going to work, he cut and pasted 57 of the documents into a series of collaged paintings first exhibited at P.S. 1, the Museum of Modern Art’s satellite museum in Queens, in 2003 and later at several other museums. It was, in

How Donald Trump's election as U.S. President could affect Apple

Wednesday, November 09, 2016, 03:08 pm PT (06:08 pm ET)

Anticipating the full impact of the election of Donald Trump is difficult because his campaign offered little in terms of real policy proposals, instead favoring high energy crowd rallies and the drawing of media attention through the use of incredible and often shocking comments. There are some clues as to what he might make priorities in his administration however.

An empowered FBI surveillance state

While Trump's rival Hillary Clinton had worked with Silicon Valley tech leaders to draft articulated policies related to citizens' encryption rights, privacy, patent reform and education, Trump's website made no mention of any substantial ideas related to technology, innovation, privacy, intellectual property or education.

However, Trump has garnered support from operatives in the Federal Bureau of Investigations, who used their positions to influence the election by teasing the prospect of an ongoing investigation into Clinton's email use.

Last winter, when the FBI sought to force Apple to write code exploiting the security features of its own software, Apple pushed back while Trump, on the campaign trail, built a case for government interference in encryption tools. FBI director James Comey has a vast public record of desperately wanting to break encryption

FBI director James Comey has a vast public record of desperately wanting to break encryption. Trump threatened a boycott of Apple, and professed the use of a Samsung Android phone, a platform that uses ineffective encryption that's easy to exploit.

A Trump administration with a cozy relationship with surveillance-state investigators could leverage his position to attack his business rivals and anyone else he considered a threat. Trump regularly threatened

Media, Democratic Party Elite Responsible for Hillary Debacle

That the media and Democratic party elite made Hillary the Democratic nominee, despite a decided lack of enthusiasm for her candidacy among party rank-and-file, seems almost too obvious to mention.

Except, it’s not. It’s key to understanding what — for most of us — is an especially dis

Republican Brian Fitzpatrick will succeed his brother in Congress, winning election to the U.S. House to keep a closely divided suburban Philadelphia seat in the GOP's column.

Fitzpatrick beat Democratic state Rep. Steve Santarsiero (san-tuh-SEE'-roh) in Tuesday's election in a hotly contested race during which Fitzpatrick had said he wouldn't vote for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

The 42-year-old Fitzpatrick, a former FBI agent and federal prosecutor, is the brother of retiring incumbent Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick. He moved from California to run.

Women testify that 2 LAPD officers sexually assaulted them

Two Los Angeles police officers face charges of repeatedly sexually assaulting four women. (Bob Chamberlin / Los Angeles Times)
Alene TchekmedyianContact Reporter
She first met the two narcotics officers in July 2009 when they drove her to jail after she was caught buying methamphetamine in Hollywood.

If she gave them names of drug dealers, they said, they could get her out of jail. The woman didn’t make any promises, she recounted, but took one cop’s phone number before she was booked.

Three days later, she was released. As she left a downtown Los Angeles courthouse that evening, she said, the officers were waiting outside in an unmarked police car. They rolled down a window of their Volkswagen Jetta and offered her a ride. She accepted.

What followed, the woman testified during a preliminary hearing on Friday, was a series of dark run-ins with the two officers, including an encounter weeks later while she was walking her dog in Hollywood. That night, the officers ordered her into the back seat of the unmarked police car, she said, where one unzipped his pants, pulled them down and forced her to give him oral sex. The other, meanwhile, faced forward in the front passenger seat, holding her dog, she testified.

Shocked and scared, she said, she didn’t fight back.

“He tried to kiss me after that and say it wasn’t that bad,” the woman testified, weeping at times when recounting details of the assault.

The testimony came during a two-day hearing where she and two other women gave evidence against Officers Luis Valenzuela and James Nichols, accusing the pair of raping or sexually assaulting them. Prosecutors allege that the officers targeted four women between late 2008 and 2011, forcing victims into having sex or performing oral sex, sometimes in the back seat of their unmarked police car after driving to a secluded area. The Times generally does not name victims of sexual assault.

Who's Fooling Who? CDC Says Most Overdose Deaths Involve a Prescription Opioid. But in Massachusetts Only 20% do.
Drug overdose deaths in the United States hit record numbers in 2014
More people died from drug overdoses in 2014 than in any year on record. The majority of drug overdose deaths (more than six out of ten) involve an opioid.1 And since 1999, the number of overdose deaths involving opioids (including prescription opioid pain relieversand heroin) nearly quadrupled.2 From 2000 to 2014 nearly half a million people died from drug overdoses. 78 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose.
We now know that overdoses from prescription opioid pain relievers are a driving factor in the 15-year increase in opioid overdose deaths. Since 1999, the amount of prescription opioids sold in the U.S. nearly quadrupled,2 yet there has not been an overall change in the amount of pain that Americans report.3,4 Deaths from prescription opioids—drugs like oxycodone, hydrocodone, and methadone—have also quadrupled since 1999.5

In Massachusetts, real time data have just been made available, and fentanyl and heroin overdose deaths outweigh those involving prescription opioids 4 to 1 and 3 to 1, respectively. Prescription opioids were only found in 20% of OD deaths.

Afghanistan had a bumper crop of opium this year, while illicit fentanyl consumption and production (which, unlike heroin, does not require opium as a raw material, and its potential production is virtually limitless) is also booming.

Why does CDC blow smoke about the narcotic crisis?

Hurd beat former Democratic Rep. Pete Gallego in a district that sprawls from San Antonio nearly to El Paso, encompassing 800-plus miles of the U.S.-Mexico border.
An ex-CIA agent and one of only three black congressional Republicans, Hurd limited Gallego to a single term by beating him in 2014. Tuesday's race was the only competitive one among Texas' 36 congressional districts.
Hurd outraised Gallego and urged Trump to abandon the GOP presidential nomination after the release of a recording where the New Yorker made crude comments about women.
His victory marks the first time the district hasn't flipped between parties since 2010.

— A second defendant in the Oregon ranching standoff case has asked to withdraw his guilty plea.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports (http://bit.ly/2eUzX9C ) that Eric Lee Flores says "newly discovered evidence" presented at the recent trial of seven people who took over a federal wildlife refuge in a 41-day armed standoff with authorities is grounds for the plea withdrawal.

Flores' lawyer, Ernest Warren Jr., says testimony from FBI informants revealed that they were encouraging others to violate the law and escalate confrontations with officers.

Prosecutors said during the trial that 15 FBI informants were involved in the investigation

Ohhh! Emmm! Geee! What Just Happened?

You’ve seen the news. Hillary Clinton suffered a stunning defeat. She may yet win the popular vote nationwide, but Donald Trump will be our 45th President. His tweet-length policy statements will drive the public debate. His soft porn star wife will replace Michelle Obama as First Lady. Republicans will control both houses of Congress. They will name Antonin Scalia’s replacement on the Supreme Court — and then probably a couple more justices — swinging the Court far to the right for a generation.

Take this survey to tell us what you think went wrong. Check your top three, then add your own ideas in the comments section below.

The top 3 reasons Donald Trump will be in the White House - (select 3)

FBI Director James Comey’s outrageous last-minute intervention threw the election to Trump.
The Republicans’ voter suppression campaign to disenfranchise black voters gave Trump the margin of victory.
Mainstream media gave Trump a free ride, treating him like a normal candidate, not a racist demagogue.
Right-wing money increased GOP turnout in battleground states.
The Democrats ran the wrong candidate: Hillary's campaign didn't catch fire, Bernie would have won.
The Democrats addressed global issues like climate change; Trump drilled down on jobs.
Trump played the race card to great effect.
Trump effectively roused hatred of immigrants.

FEW COMMENTATORS seem to understand the potential for a Donald Trump presidency to profoundly undermine American democracy. In his Nov. 9 column (“Shocking, yes. Dictatorship? No.Jeff Jacoby argues that the new president will be held in check by “entrenched constitutional prerogatives.” Not necessarily.

Many of Trump’s campaign proposals are clearly unconstitutional — for now. But Trump will have the opportunity to choose at least one or more new Supreme Court justices. It seems clear that these choices will make the late Justice Antonin Scalia look like a centrist on the issue of executive power.

With a new Trump-picked Supreme Court in place, what is unconstitutional today could easily become standard administration policy tomorrow. This is just one of many changes that will mark the end of the American era.

From the Bering to Maine, Hot Oceans Are Killing the Puffin
“The Bering Sea has been off-the-charts warm. We’ve never seen anything like this. We’re in uncharted territory. We’re in the midst of an extraordinary time.” Nate Mantua, an ecologist at NOAA’s Southwest Fisheries Science Center in Santa Cruz, California in this National Geographic article.

*****

Some have claimed that the effects of global warming are only gradual and mild. That the impacts to the Earth’s weather systems, its oceans, its lands, its web of life do not now represent a crisis that risks global catastrophe and mass human tragedy. That, somehow, the growing die-offs now inflicted on key species amounts to some kind of pleasantly quiet background noise that we should rationally, coldly, consider, but that should not increase our level of concern or, perish the thought, alarm. And when the very real harms that are now escalating as a result of climate change are realized more fully by human civilization, the fact that these voices did not warn us more strongly, that some of these voices attacked those of us who were rationally concerned, will stand in history as stark evidence to the harms of pandering to the false comfort of an unwarranted reticence.

(Today, sea surfaces in regions surrounding the Arctic are between 2 and 10.5 degrees Celsius above average. These waters are so warm now that they are less able to support a vital food chain. And the impact to Puffins has been considerable. Image source: Earth Nullschool.)

If they could speak, a lovable breed of northern bird would tell us their own tale of tragedy and loss at the hand of global heat. And if we could hear the sad tale of their own great plight, our hearts and minds might not be so hard or so cold. For in and near the Arctic there is every indication that winter is dying and along with it, the Puffins.

Mass Puffin Die-Off Underway

Northern waters are rich with life. Or they were, at least, until recently. High oxygen content, cold water, high nutrient content all help to form a basis for the teeming life of this region. However, as atmospheric carbon levels increase and as oceans warm, these waters become less able to support life. They hold less oxygen. They become more acidic. And they tend to become more stratified. The food chain is disrupted and winnowed down. And such a winnowing can have a terrible impact on all kinds of life forms.

For the Puffin, such ocean warming related food losses have become a subject of growing alarm among researchers. In the Bering Sea between Alaska and Russia, both National Geographic and Digital Journal have compiled reports of severe loss of life to both adult birds and young. In parts of the Bering sea, adult Puffins are dying at 200 times the normal mortality rate. Nesting rates, normally at 60 percent, have plummeted to 12 percent. And the few chicks that do manage to hatch from eggs are emaciated.

(Charismatic Puffins imperiled by climate change are now subject to an increasing extinction pressure due to this man-made crisis. Image source: NRDC.)

Over on the Atlantic side, a similar mass die off of Puffins has occurred in the Gulf of Maine even while stresses to the birds have been increasing into Scotland, the Barents Sea and Iceland. Die offs further south in Maine began to become widespread during 2014 as the waters off the US East Coast hit extreme levels of warmth. By 2016, the mass mortality had extended to Iceland where more than 80 percent of Puffin chicks were reported dead.

To researchers, there’s no mystery as to what’s killing the birds. They’re starving. But the root cause of the great loss among Puffins is even more disturbing. Julia Parrish, a University of Washington professor who coordinates a West Coast volunteer bird-monitoring network noted to National Geographic:

“Clearly something very weird is going on. It’s basically every year now we’re getting some huge mass-mortality event. It seems that the bottom-up changes provoked by the atmosphere are creating massive, massive changes in marine ecosystems. And the forage fish that everything depends on are taking it in the shorts.” (Emphasis added)

In other words, the fish that Puffins feed on are dying due to global climate change and so the Puffins are dying too.

Conditions in Context — We All Rely on Bountiful Oceans

If we are unable to escape the stresses of our own lives, or step back from our own individual difficulties to take account of the larger trajectory of our race, the plight of Puffins starving in the North Atlantic or Bering Sea may seem a remote or minor concern. However, when one realizes that, like the Puffins, human beings also rely on the bounty of the oceans as a primary food source, the matter strikes much closer to home. And in this case, Puffins join a long list of ocean-dependent wildlife — corals, seals, fish, polar bears, walruses, lobsters and so many more — who are sending us an increasingly loud warning as they perish.

Life in the world’s waters is in peril due to the warming we are causing. And because life on land is ultimately connected to what happens in the waters, not paying attention, not responding to what’s happening by halting the fossil fuel emissions that have created this terrible extinction pressure, is a wretched road to follow.

November 3, 2016: Apologies in advance for such a stress-inducing headline, but let’s talk about the 900 pound orangutan in the room: What if we wake up on Wednesday to Donald J. Trump as president elect of the United States of America?

Since everyone is on pins and needles about it, let’s have this conversation.

The first thing: Life as we knew it and expected it to unfold will never be the same. American fascism will have arrived and the worst, most violent elements in society will feel emboldened to harm everyone they consider as “the other” with impunity. The burning of the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville, Mississippi this week by Trump supporters is merely the opening salvo. The internal conflict within the FBI in public view right now will afflict every police agency, federal, state and local, as openly authoritarian elements attempt to seize control. Hate crimes will rise against women, people of color and the LGBT communities precisely as law enforcement turns a blind eye to much of it. Look for entire new demographic groups to be targeted, too: Those 20 million who newly have health care, many of whom had preexisting conditions, people living with disabilities and others will be added to the list of national scapegoats. The attempt to repeal Obamacare will be a literal death sentence for many of us.

Those of us who have lived in countries under authoritarian rule have spent recent months having our own conversation about what is happening in the USA. We do it in whispers because most of you will not believe us no matter how loudly we shout about what a Trump election would bring down the ‘pike. We shake our heads and feel a great wave of pity for most Americans who have no idea what tyranny really looks or feels like. Tyranny – contrary to popular myth – is asymmetric. It hits from all sides, crevices, nooks and crannies, from the dark places, the shadows. The figurehead’s power above merely provides it cover. It has the same paramilitary logic of what was endured in Latin America’s dirty wars and the dictatorships across the sea that gave rise to the Arab Spring. When Donald J. Trump praises strongmen leaders across the globe he is giving his “tell” of how he would govern – with a clenched fist.

Worse, the response from that part of America that defines itself as “the left” (I am speaking of the white and academic “left” since so few organized people of color are foolish enough to claim an already discredited mantle) is totally unequipped to address it yet they will attempt once again to place themselves at the vanguard of resistance without any lived experience leading an actual resistance, much less winning one. Senator Sanders’ “Our Revolution” PAC will seek to fundraise off every injustice as aggressively as it has over the Native American resistance to the pipeline in the Dakotas. The remnants of “Occupy” now under a thousand new names will call for demonstrations without guidelines, training or discipline and that in the name of “diversity of tactics” allow any asshole who wants to call himself “Black Bloc” to don ski masks and toss trash cans through store windows. President Trump is gonna love those demonstrations because it will allow him to sell all kinds of repression to his base. White men will vault to the front of these groups saying, “follow me!” Yet they have not a clue as to how a real movement is built or won. They feel entitled to it anyway. It will be more of the same attempts to re-center whiteness and maleness with the cheerleading of Jacobin magazine, some writers at The Nation, Democracy Now and Reddit dudebro forums.

The election of Trump will mark the exact moment of failure of manhood in America. The only possible new leadership will have to come from women, especially women of color, who already live in Trump’s America and have more experience navigating such a world, far more than we guys can learn in the short time we’ll have to build an authentic resistance. Mexican-American and Muslim-American women will be the first hit and instead of letting the dudebro aspirants set the tone it will be up to all of us to follow those women into battle instead.

The only authentic resistance to the policies of a Trump presidency will make nonviolence its watchword, and unapologetically so. To participate, you’re going to have to get training in nonviolent civil resistance. I’m not speaking of the “express trainings” by dudebro groups like “Democracy Spring” with fawning celebrity dilettantes like Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins, but, rather, sessions that last a minimum of eight hours or, ideally, an entire weekend or more and are led and organized by women of experience at it and especially women of color.

Many of these will have to take place in Mexico, which will take on a special role as a Trump-free zone with the support of the general population. Learning Spanish would be a real good idea for any American who really wants to chase dictatorship back down its rabbit hole.

The resistance will not be led by the Green or Libertarian Parties, “Occupy” activists or any similar fringe: Their brands of “leadership” are what got us into this mess in the first place.

The revolution will be authentically multi-racial, a true partnership, women-led and nonviolent or there will be no chance of success at all.

Finally, we’re going to have to say goodbye to some former “allies” who spent this election dragging down the one woman who stood in the way of a Trump presidency. I can say, for example, that the School of Authentic Journalism we hold in Mexico won’t ever be inviting any of them down: that would disrespect our Mexican hosts whose families will bear the biggest brunt of an America under Trump. (Thankfully, out of five hundred to whom we have given scholarships over the past thirteen years, only three have jumped that shark, and one just loudly recanted, begging people to disregard every asinine thing he’s written over the past year about this election! That happened today.)

Me? I’m ready to play an auxiliary role in a women and women of color-led resistance to a Trump’s America. They’re the only reason we have a candidate with a chance of defeating him on Tuesday. They’ve saved America once already this year. It’s time for us boys to start taking orders instead of barking them while wagging our finger at the gals. And it’s the only possible guarantee against Trumpism infecting the movement against his policies. Real men – like President Obama – will know just how to play that supportive role. He’ll be doing it from an organizing academy out of the coming Obama Museum in Chicago – and win or lose this election I expect to see y’all there, too.

If you’re reading these words and thinking, “Gee, Al makes it sound so much fun, maybe we need a Trump regime to kick our asses!” Nope. Millions of lives will be ruined, many ended prematurely. One of them might be yours. People you love will be crushed under it. This scenario is the most un-fun thing imaginable. And the chances of success will be greatly stacked against us. The American people are not prepared to be soldiers in a nonviolent war to reclaim the country. It would take decades, probably generations, to turn back the tide. In the meantime, there will only be pain and suffering.

Americans have it pretty damn good today. That’s why people from all the other lands want to come and live and work in it. Don’t blow it, America, out of a misguided and purely academic theory that things have to get worse before they can get better. That’s children’s talk. And history has never happened that way.

If you don’t like the truths I’ve just thrown at you, there are still four days of phone banking, door knocking, data entry and driving people to the polls left to make for a different and better reality, one in which fascist law enforcement agents don’t run amok and where black churches and Muslim and Jewish and Spanish language temples don’t get regularly burned to the ground. I can think of no clearer imagery to visualize what a Trump presidency would be like. Forewarned is forearmed. Vote. The country – and world – you live in will be decided on Tuesday.

FBI Director Comey’s credibility issues go beyond presidential politics to 9/11 panel
Filed under 9/11, A1 TOP STORY, FBI{NO COMMENTS}

FBI Director James Comey discusses the 9/11 Review Commission’s findings during a press conference at FBI headquarters on March 25, 2015. Former Attorney General Edwin Meese (left), and former Congressman Tim Roemer (right), are also pictured.
FBI Director James Comey’s credibility is under heavy fire due to his headline-making public statements about the FBI’s investigation of Hillary Clinton that have entangled the bureau in presidential politics.

Republicans howled in July when Comey publicly declared he wouldn’t recommend criminal charges against Clinton for her use of a private email server while she was secretary of state. Over the weekend, Democrat Clinton reportedly told supporters she blames her surprising loss to President-elect Donald Trump on Comey’s announcement 11 days before the election that he had restarted the email probe, as well as his announcement two days before the election that an examination of newly discovered emails had not changed his July findings.

But those aren’t the first credibility issues to be raised about Republican Comey since he became FBI chief in 2013. Others, largely unreported, arose

Most recently, the National Whistleblower Center filed an amicus curiae brief in a case before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Parkinson v. Department of Justice in support of John C. Parkinson, a former FBI special agent and Iraq war veteran. Along with FBI whistleblowers Fred Whitehurst, Jane Turner, Mike German and Robert Kobus, the NWC advocated that Mr. Parkinson retains his whistleblower rights –even as a veteran, and any contrary holding would deprive all veterans of important substantive rights under the law.  The Federal Circuit has yet to issue an opinion in this case.

These cases share an essential thread:  the courageous actions of whistleblowers set on doing the right thing.  In Escobar, this meant uncovering Medicare fraud, including treatment performed by unlicensed doctors; in Rigsby, it meant unearthing State Farm’s $758 million scam for defrauding the Government following Hurricane Katrina; and in Parkinson, it was blowing the whistle on his FBI colleagues’ alleged sexual misconduct in 2008.

The National Whistleblower Center has an almost 30-year history of protecting the right of individuals to report wrongdoing without fear of retaliation. Please support the NWC so it can continue to expand and defend whistleblower laws.  Consider a donation to the NWC this #GivingTuesday. #BecauseOfWhistleblowers.

Vice-President-elect Pence said in 2011 that he didn’t know who sent the anthrax in the Fall 2001. (I don’t either although El-Shukrijumah is my candidate). Mr. Pence said that he is afraid that we missed the off-ramp to truce. He has led the transition team. Through his choices and directions, he has the ability to see if we can allow for greater clarity on the issue — so that the history can be written.

The most compelling evidence of conspiracy to kill Kennedy is the nearly identical effort to do so in Chicago three weeks earlier. Historian James W. Douglass (JFK and the Unspeakable) describes a scenario resembling Dallas. Four snipers were to be positioned in tall buildings along the presidential motorcade route. An informant named “Lee” provided a tip to the FBI and, a day later, an alert rooming house landlady warned the FBI about four men in possession of rifles, scopes and a newspaper clipping describing the president’s route. While two of the men escaped, the other two were taken into custody and interrogated by the Secret Service. Their names have never been revealed.

But the most dramatic link between Chicago and Dallas was the arrest of an ex-marine who, like Oswald, had been stationed at a CIA-operated base in Japan. His name was Thomas Arthur Vallee and, like Oswald, had been positioned to take the blame for the assassination. It was further learned that the license plate on Vallee’s car was restricted to U.S. intelligence agencies. Dramatic developments in Saigon caused Kennedy to cancel this trip to Chicago.

On Oct. 11, 1963, President Kennedy signed National Security Action memorandum 263, under which U.S. forces would gradually be withdrawn from Vietnam by 1965. Four days after he was assassinated President Johnson signed National Security Memo 273, reversing Kennedy’s withdrawal plan.

Will Sims murdered by three white men in Calif. hate crime

Will Sims was shot and killed by 3 white men in a California hate crime. (HANDOUT)
Just days after Donald Trump’s election, in El Sobrante, Calif., about 20 miles north of San Francisco, something truly terrible happened. I honestly believe it must be viewed in the context of the wave of hate crimes that swept our nation immediately after Trump’s win. Except most of us are just now learning that it took place.

Will Sims, 28, an accomplished musician and vocalist, widely hailed as a gentle, peaceful, gifted soul, was murdered in a vicious hate crime. He was targeted, robbed, beaten, then shot, and left on the street to die. When the police found him on the street on Nov. 12, he was already dead.

Police have openly stated that Sims was targeted by the three wh

Defense Team Tried to Demonstrate Parlato’s Innocence; were told they had orders to Indict
November 25, 2016

It might be informative to readers to get a peek inside the US Attorney’s investigation and prosecution of an American citizen.
The Parlato case might be a good example of how the office works.
While trying to show the US Attorney’s office, then under William Hochul, that indicting him was a deep injustice, Parlato, who has professed his innocence, retained former New York State Attorney General and former US Attorney Dennis Vacco; former Federal Magistrate Judge Carol Heckman; former Assistant US Attorney [under Preet Bharara] Brian Feldman, and Parlato’s two civil litigation lawyers, Ralph Lorigo and James Roscetti, who had successfully battled serial litigant Shmuel Shmueli for years.

Brian Feldman, a former AUSA, made a serious, three-months long effort to try to persuade AUSA Anthony Bruce that it was wrong to indict Frank Parlato. During that time, AUSA Bruce reportedly erupted with anger repeatedly, often swore profusely, refused to listen to exonerating information and only wanted to know if Parlato would take a plea deal, otherwise he would be indicted.

“We provided so much information to the U.S. Attorney’s Office on so many topics,” Ralph Lorigo told the Buffalo News, expressing surprise at how the government ignored all the documentary, exonerating evidence. “I’m very taken aback by what I read in the indictment.”

Every one of these lawyers, all known for their long history of integrity, went on the record with the US Attorney that they believed Parlato was innocent of criminal wrongdoing.
Former Magistrate Judge Heckman and former Assistant US Attorney Feldman gave a 126 slide Power Point presentation showing extensive, exonerating evidence to Assistant US Attorney Anthony Bruce, FBI Special Agent Brian Burns and others with the US Attorney’s office, then under Hochul.
Assistant US Attorney Bruce reportedly sat there with his legs folded, not taking notes, expressing great annoyance and rudely urging former Magistrate Judge Heckman to hurry up. FBI Burns reportedly made it a point at times to heckle, laugh and scoff during the presentation.
Afterward AUSA Bruce told former Magistrate Judge Heckman that he had “marching orders” from US Attorney Hochul to indict Parlato.
Former New York State Attorney General Vacco presented an exhaustively documented “White Paper” to AUSA Bruce and FBI SA Burns which argued that the government’s theories were demonstrably wrong and that the issues in dispute were at best civil and not criminal matters.
AUSA Bruce reportedly told Vacco that, based on the time FBI Agent Burns and an IRS agent had invested in the case, he had to have at least one fraud (for the FBI) and one tax (for the IRS) felony count.

He was both the New York State Attorney General and a US Attorney, making Dennis Vacco probably the most prominent, well known and best qualified prosecutor in Western New York.
Vacco went to bat for Parlato, writing a comprehensive “White Paper” which Vacco put his name to and which clearly showed he believed Parlato was innocent and that the government wrongly asserted theories of criminal liability which included actual mistaken identification of critical documents. These serious mistakes by the government may have spread to the grand jury.

AUSA Bruce offered Parlato, over a ten month period in 2015, a series of plea deals – each with lower contemplated sentences, from four years, to two, to less than a year and finally one with a possible halfway house and/or home confinement – all with two felony counts – one for the FBI and one for the IRS.
Most offers were accompanied with deadlines of “take the plea or be indicted”.
Parlato refused to accept any plea deal since he claimed it would require him to lie to the judge in admitting to a crime he did not commit.
Parlato was indicted on Nov. 20, 2015 and faces 20 years if convicted on all counts.
Parlato has said he has come to realize that the decision to indict him was decided long before his attorneys met with the US Attorney’s office under Hochul.
He also said he understood that most people are not in a position to fight the enormous forces of the government, and even though they are innocent might be tempted to take a plea deal.
In spite of extensive, exonerating and documentary evidence presented to the government, FBI Agent Burns allegedly ignored documents in his possession and, as alleged in Parlato’s recent motion, made 38 “inaccurate” statements in his affidavit filed with Hon. Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder, Jr. during the prosecution’s secret (ex parte) hearing to seize Parlato’s funds.
Parlato said that FBI SA Burns must have felt he needed to insert these inaccuracies since he had documents in his possession that contradicted the false claims made in the affidavit. However, without the inaccuracies, Magistrate Judge Schroeder might have declined to approve the seizure or called for a hearing during which Parlato’s attorneys would have been permitted to appear and explain why it was unjust that their client’s funds should be seized before there was a trial proving any wrongdoing.
How many of the 38 alleged inaccuracies which FBI SA Burns inserted into his affidavit before Magistrate Judge Schroeder were also presented to the grand jury is unknown by the

He’s in charge: FBI file reveals Alexander Haig as architect of the Saturday Night Massacre
File lends credence to theory that Haig manipulated Nixon into disastrous Watergate firings that helped end his Presidency

A version of this article appears on Glomar Disclosure

As a fixture in both the civilian and military worlds of politics, the FBI file for General Alexander Haig promised to be quite interesting. As a United States General who had served as the Supreme Allied Commander Europe for NATO, the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army, the Chief of Staff for Presidents Nixon and Ford, and the Secretary of State for Ronald Reagan, General Haig was a key player in several decades worth of history for both the United States and the world.

Although much of the file focuses on standard background issues and threats against the general several new facts stand out. One section, in particular, sheds new light on the Watergate scandal and the ensuing Saturday Night Massacre.

The Saturday Night Massacre refers to the firing of independent special prosecutor Archibald Cox, followed by Attorney General Elliot Richardson and Deputy Attorney General Ruckelshaus, which resulted from the fight over the White House tapes and President Nixon’s refusal to simply hand them over. This provoked an additional wave of backlash against Nixon, and ultimately proved to be his undoing, as it was seen as one attempt too many to interfere with the investigation.

At the time, outrage focused on Nixon, but over the years, various journalists and historians have reexamined the matter and found that many of the threads pointed back to General Haig, in his role as White House Chief of Staff, as one

L.A. County sheriff's deputies sentenced in beating of mentally ill inmate and coverup

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Twin Towers Correctional Facility in 2015.

November 28, 2016, 6:30 p.m.
Two former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were sentenced to federal prison Monday for beating a mentally ill inmate and falsifying reports to cover up the attack, the latest department officials to face imprisonment in connection with the county’s jail abuse scandal.

Bryan Brunsting, 31, was ordered to spend 21 months in custody, and Jason Branum, 36, was given five months, but U.S. District Judge George Wu ordered that they could remain free pending their appeals.

Both sentences fell below what prosecutors — and in Brunsting’s case, even the defense — had requested, with Wu noting that the pair’s actions stemmed from an “us-versus-them culture” pervasive in the jails.

Wu also questioned whether handing down lengthy sentences would deter other law enforcement officers from similar misconduct. He asked whether the prosecution really thought an officer would look at the sentences and say, “I’d do it if I get six months, but I won’t do it if I get three years?”

“Yes,” Asst. U.S. Atty. Brandon Fox said emphatically, adding that he’s heard people on wiretaps urging each other to knock off criminal behavior after stiff sentences were handed to others.

Defense attorneys portrayed Brunsting as a young, immature deputy thrust into a position of teaching other deputies early in his career despite having no training on managing mentally ill inmates. Prosecutors, however, accused him of fostering a culture of abuse among a new generation of deputies.

Branum, meanwhile, was described by his attorney as a decorated war hero who earned a Bronze Star for his service before giving up his military career to devote himself to his family.

“I’ve spent the majority of my adult life protecting people who can’t protect themselves,” Branum told the judge before his sentencing.

Their case revolved around allegations made by a former recruit who said he was only days on the job at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility on March 10, 2010, when he was summoned by his training officer, Brunsting, and told that an inmate had left his cell without permission and mouthed off to jail staff.

“We’re going to teach him a lesson,” Joshua Sather recalled Brunsting telling him.

Sather, who had graduated from the academy at the top of his class, testified he tackled the inmate and punched him several times but then stopped because he wasn't resisting. Other deputies then set upon the inmate with a barrage of kicks and blows. The inmate, Sather said, lay curled up on the ground throughout, screaming and crying.

Prosecutors alleged that the inmate, Philip Jones, was attacked in a locked hallway of the jail that lacked surveillance cameras. They told jurors he was kicked in the genitals, punched and pepper-sprayed.

When they were done, Sather testified, the deputies gathered privately to concoct a justification for the beating that they gave sheriff’s officials in falsified reports.

“This is acting with impunity. This is saying, ‘We are above the law,’” Fox said. “They conspire

Climate Change Has Left Bolivia Crippled by Drought
“Bolivians have to be prepared for the worst.” — President Evo Morales.

*****

Like many countries, Bolivia relies on its glaciers and large lakes to supply water during the lean, dry times. But as Bolivia has heated with the rest of the world, those key stores of frozen and liquid water have dwindled and dried up. Warming has turned the country’s second largest lake into a parched bed of hardening soil. This heat has made the country’s largest lake a shadow of its former expanse and depth. It has forced Bolivia’s glaciers into a full retreat up the tips of its northern mountains — reducing the key Chacaltaya glacier to naught. Multiple reservoirs are now bone-dry. And, for hundreds of thousands of people, the only source of drinking water is from trucked-in shipments.

Drought Emergency Declared for Bolivia

After decades of worsening drought and following a strong 2014-2016 El Nino, Bolivia has declared a state of emergency. 125,000 families are under severe water rationing — receiving supplies only once every three days. The water allocation for these families is only enough for drinking. No more. Hundreds of thousands beyond this hardest hit group also suffer from some form of water curtailment. Schools have been closed. Businesses shut down. 60,000 cattle have perished. 149 million dollars in damages have racked up. And across the country, protests have broken out.

The city of La Paz, which is the seat of Bolivia’s government and home to about 800,000 people (circa 2001) has seen its three reservoirs almost completely dry up. The primary water reservior — Ajuan Kota — is at just 1 percent capacity. Two smaller reserviors stand at just 8 percent.

(Over the past year, drought in Bolivia has become extreme — sparking declarations of emergency and resulting in water rationing. It is the most recent severe dry period of many to affect the state over the past few decades. President Morales has stated that climate change is the cause. And the science, in large part, agrees with him. Image source: The Global Drought Monitor.)

In nearby El Alto, a city of 650,000 people (circa 2001), residents are also suffering from water shortages. The lack there has spurred unrest — with water officials briefly being held hostage by desperate citizens.

As emergency relief tankers wind through the streets and neighborhoods of La Paz and El Alto, the government has established an emergency water cabinet. Plans to build a more resilient system have been laid. And foreign governments and companies have been asked for assistance. But Bolivia’s larger problem stems from droughts that have been made worse and worse by climate change. And it’s unclear whether new infrastructure to manage water can deal with a situation that increasingly removes the water altogether.

Dried out Lakes, Dwindling Glaciers

Over the years, worsening factors related to climate change have made Bolivia vulnerable to any dry period that may come along. The added effect of warming is that more rain has to fall to make up for the resulting increased rate of evaporation. Meanwhile, glacial retreat means that less water melts and flows into streams and lakes during these hot, dry periods. In the end, this combined water loss creates a situation of drought prevalence for the state. And when a dry period is set off by other climate features — as happened with the strong El Nino that occurred during 2014 to 2016 — droughts in Bolivia become considerably more intense.

Ever since the late 1980s, Bolivia has been struggling through abnormal dry periods related to human caused climate change. Over time, these dry periods inflicted increasing water stress on the state. And despite numerous efforts on the part of Bolivia, the drought impacts have continued to worsen.

(In this NASA satellite shot of northern Bolivia taken on November 6, 2016, we find very thin mountain snow and ice cover in upper center, a lake Titicaca that is both now very low and filled with sand bars at upper left, and a completely dried up lake Poopo at bottom-center. Bolivia relies on these three sources of water. One is gone, and two more have been greatly diminished. Scientists have found that global warming is melting Bolivia’s glaciers and has increased evaporation rates by as much as 200 percent near its key lakes. Image source: LANCE MODIS.)

By 1994, added heat and loss of glaciers resulted in the country’s second largest lake — Poopo — drying up. The lake recovered somewhat in the late 1990s. But by early 2016, a lake that once measured 90 x 32 kilometers at its widest points had again been reduced to little more than a cracked bed littered with abandoned fishing hulls. Scientists researching the region found that the rate of evaporation in the area of lake Poopo had been increased by 200 percent by global warming.

Bolivia’s largest lake — Titicaca — is also under threat. From 2003 to 2010, the lake is reported to have lost 500 square miles of surface water area. During 2015 and 2016 drought near Titicaca intensified. In an act of desperation, the government of Bolivia allocated half a billion dollars to save the lake. But despite this move, the massive reservoir has continued to shrink. Now, the southern section of the lake is almost completely cut off by a sand bar from the north.

In the Andean mountains bordering Bolivia, temperatures have been increasing by 0.6 degrees Celsius each decade. This warming has forced the country’s glaciers into full retreat. In one example, the Chacaltaya glacier, which provided 30 percent of La Paz’s water supply, had disappeared entirely by 2009. But the losses to glaciers overall have been widespread and considerable — not just isolated to Chacaltaya.

Intense Drought Flares, With More to Come

By December, rains are expected to return and provide some relief for Bolivia. El Nino has faded and 2017 shouldn’t be as dry as 2015 or 2016. However, like many regions around the world, the Bolivian highlands are in a multi-year period of drought. And the over-riding factor causing these droughts is not the periodic El Nino, but the longer-term trend of warming that is melting Bolivia’s glaciers and increasing rates of evaporation across its lakes.

In context, the current drought emergency has taken place as global temperatures hit near 1.2 degrees Celsius hotter than 1880s averages. Current and expected future burning of fossil fuels will continue to warm the Earth and add worsening drought stress to places like Bolivia. So this particular emergency water shortage is likely to be just one of many to come. And only an intense effort to reduce fossil fuel emissions can substantially slake the worsening situation for Bolivia and for numerous other drought-affected regions around the world.

Did Föhn Winds Just Melt Two Miles of East Antarctic Surface Ice in One Day?
It’s right there in the satellite image. A swatch of blue that seems to indicate an approximate 2-mile long melt lake formed over the surface of East Antarctica in just one day. If confirmed, this event would be both odd and concerning. A part of the rising signal that melt stresses for the largest mass of land ice on the planet are rapidly increasing.

(Possible large melt lake on the surface of an ice shelf along the Scott Coast appears in this NASA satellite image. The melt lake seems to have formed after just one day during which föhn winds ran downslope from the Transantarctic Mountain Range — providing a potential period of rapid heating of the glacier surface.)

Surface Melt Now Showing Up in East Antarctica

While scientists and environmentalists are understandably concerned about ocean warming melting the undersides of sea-fronting West Antarctic glaciers — resulting in risks for rapid sea level rise for the near future, another consequence of global warming is also starting have a more visible impact on the frozen and now thawing continent. Surface melt, which was hitherto unheard of for most of East Antarctica, is now starting to pop up with increasing frequency.

East Antarctica, according to Stewart Jamieson, a glaciologist at Durham University in the U.K., is “the part of the continent where people have for quite a long time assumed that it’s relatively stable, there’s not a huge amount of change, it’s very, very cold, and so, it’s only very recently that the first supraglacial lakes, on top of the ice, were identified.”

But now, even in austral springtime, we find evidence of surface melt in the satellite record.

On November 27, 2016, what looks like an approximate 2 mile long melt pond appeared in a section of ice shelf along the Scott Coast and just North of the Drygalski Ice Tongue in the region of McMurdo Sound. The lake — which is visible as a light blue swatch at center mass in the NASA-MODIS satellite image above — suddenly showed up in November 27 satellite image along a region where only white ice was visible before. And it appears in a region of East Antarctica that, before human-forced warming altered the typically-stable Antarctic climate, had rarely, if ever, seen surface melt.

(Near melting point temperatures appear along the Scott Coast in conjunction with an apparent föhn wind event. Image source: Earth Nullschool.)

The pond shows up coordinate with recorded near 0 C surface temperatures in the GFS monitor for November 26-27 and along with evidence of downsloping (föhn) winds. GFS indicators show downsloping winds gusting to in excess of 50 mph over the period. Such winds have the potential in increase surface temperatures by as much as 14 degrees Celsius in a matter of minutes. And they have, increasingly, produced surface glacial melt events in regions of Greenland and Antarctica during recent years.

Surface Melt as a Feature of Glacial Destabilization

Supraglacial lake is just another word for a surface glacial melt lake. And these new lakes pose a big issue for ice sheet stability. Surface melt lakes are darker than white glacier surfaces. They act as lenses that focus sunlight. And the comparatively warm waters of these lakes can flood into the glacier itself — increasing the overall heat energy of the ice mass.

(A NASA researcher investigates a surface melt pond in Greenland. During recent years, these climate change related features have become more common in Antarctica. Image source: NASA.)

But water at the glacier surface doesn’t just sit there. It often bores down into the ice sheet — producing impacts for months and years after the surface lake’s formation. Sub surface lakes can form in the shadow of surface ponds. Transferring heat into the glacier year after year. In other cases, water from these lakes punches all the way to the glacier’s base. There the added lubrication of water speeds the glacier’s flow. All of these processes generate stresses and make glaciers less stable. And it is the presence of surface melt ponds that has been responsible for so much of Greenland’s speeding melt during recent years.

Now, a similar process is impacting the largest concentration of land ice on the planet. And while Greenland holds enough ice to raise sea levels by around 21 feet, East Antarctica contains enough to lift the world’s oceans by about 195 feet. Surface melt there, as a result, produces considerably more risk to the coastal cities of the world.
