Four Teenagers Arrested in "Highly Detailed" Plot to Shoot Up Their High School

Four Northern California teenagers were arrested last week and jailed in a juvenile detention center after their classmates allegedly overheard them plotting a “highly detailed” mass murder at their high school.

Police were called to Summerville High School in Tuolumne County last Wednesday, after a group of students told a teacher they’d overheard the teens discussing plans to perpetuate a mass shooting.

Three of the four students were pulled out of class and arrested the same day, and a fourth was reportedly taken into custody on Friday.

Police say a search of the teens’ lockers and homes revealed “evidence verifying a plot to shoot staff and students at Summerville High School” and at least some of the teens also confessed. The details, via the New York Times:

Investigators have found no clear motive for the planned attack, Sheriff Mele said, but he said that “the suspects’ plans were very detailed in nature and included names of would-be victims, locations and methods in which the plan was to be carried out.” The students planned to open fire during an event at school, he said, and “were in the process of trying to obtain these weapons.”

All four students are currently being held on charges of conspiracy to commit an assault with deadly weapons.

“(They were) pretty dog-gone close. (Close) enough to keep me up last night, to keep my detectives and lieutenants up last night. There was an event that would be coming up that they specifically talked about,” Tuolumne County Sheriff Jim Mele told the Modesto Bee. “To talk about specifically what, I don’t want to, but enough to move forward ... that we took four children away from their homes in order to protect other children.”

Well ... the copycat effect ... remember all the foiled school shootings in the wake of Columbine?

Impressionable / suicidal people see sensationalistic news coverage of spree / rage murder suicides and that triggers them to launch there own - often on the anniversary of other incidents.

And as for synchs ... Walter Bosley said:

This week, I'll be headed to Sonora, Ca, for a four-day research trip.

Today, four students were arrested in Sonora, Ca, for plotting a school shooting spree.

Nope. That's not eerie. Not a bit.

... which is how I first heard about this thwarted attack.

As far as "copy cat" events are concerned we have to consider the possibility of mass public shootings one day falling prey to choreomania like outbreak where instead of dancing the neurological action is killing. It is quite possible in the not distant future where we could see a group, or group of cells, take to killing indiscriminately using the internets as a viral step off.

In America, This would probably result in no change in law, but rather the increased sale of assault rifles.

Like clockwork, these stories of mass shooters in movie theaters, shopping centers, churches, classrooms, etc. emerge with a ritualistic regularity, from start to finish, so much so that it's become terrifyingly routine. And it's the same every time, very predictable. Someone, usually generic/harmless in appearance with a certain vacant quality, puppet-like, wakes up one day and for whatever reason decides to shoot a bunch of people gathered together in what we used to think of as fairly safe environments. Media circus ensues, yet rarely, if ever, do we get to glimpse evidence from personal camera phones, surveillance video, etc., The perpetrator is identified, tried and convicted within 24 hours, and what follows is two to three weeks of the same media rituals and policy debates. Then, there are always so many contradictions, holes, and science defying elements, etc., to each story that weeks/months/years of Internet sleuthing is guaranteed.

Oh, and drills always precede these events...always! Not to mention, a controversial news story/stories that these events conveniently provide distraction.

So, why do we focus so much attention on the "puppet"? (The stepfordized media/politicians should be included in the "puppet" category) While these puppets/scapegoats/"Manchurian candidates" may be taking pharmaceuticals, may be gun nuts, it doesn't explain the predictable and ritualistic behavior of the media, politicians, the strange anomalies, holes, contradictions, DRILLS, etc. There is obviously something much larger at play here. Behind the scenes. That's what we should be focusing on.

Modern-day, enlightened and rational people are too sophisticated to believe in "possession" and "ritual" but isn't that what's going on here? People acting out behaviors as if something else has taken them over, using their physical bodies to carry out some kind of nefarious agenda? To quote Jung, “…the psychic conditions which breed demons are as actively at work as ever. The demons have not really disappeared but have merely taken on another form: they have become unconscious psychic forces.”

Our community college downtown is on lockdown at this moment, a man was seen with a gun in one of the buildings. No shots fired, and I'm sure the entire SWAT team is down there now.

^^^ is simply untrue. Please point to out what drill took place prior to the Capitol Hill Massacre.

I mean, really?

Or is that just one of the "genuine" drills, you know, to make the others seem "real" random when the real shooting begins?

Teen in custody after lockdown at Community College of Philadelphia

An alleged gunman is in police custody following a lockdown of the Community College of Philadelphia Tuesday morning.

Tuesday, October 06, 2015 04:48PM
SPRING GARDEN (WPVI) --
A teenager is in police custody following a lockdown of the Community College of Philadelphia Tuesday morning.

The 17-year-old boy was apprehended inside a classroom at the Center of Business and Industry at 18th and Collowhill streets.

He was reportedly unarmed, but police believe he may have ditched a gun when he fled. They are now searching for the weapon.

Police have not released his identity at this time, and so far no charges have been filed.

It was around 9:30 a.m. when the teen and another male allegedly had a dispute at a courtyard outside the Bonnell Building on the campus in the city's Spring Garden section.

Authorities tell Action News that a male reported that he was threatened by the teen with a handgun. The teen then allegedly ran into the nearby Winnet Student Life Building.

Police ordered everyone in the Bonnell and Winnet buildings to shelter in place as officers swept the area.

The teenager was found about an hour and a half later.

No one was injured in the incident, and the lockdown at the Community College of Philadelphia has been lifted.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said the two males have a history. He said they know each other, there was an argument, and one of them allegedly produced a gun.

A spokesperson for the community college says a text alert was sent out notifying students of the incident, and ordering those on campus to shelter in place.

Masterman High School, located just across the street from the college, was also placed on lockdown as a precaution, and St. Joseph's Prep says they ordered a "lock-in" - not allowing anyone in or out of their school.

This comes just one day after an online post threatened an attack at a college or university in the Philadelphia area. However, police say Tuesday's incident was the subject of an isolated dispute and not connected to Monday's threat.

And it was last May when the Community College of Philadelphia was last placed on lockdown after a student flashed a weapon during a dispute in a chemistry class.

One Person Killed, Three Wounded In Overnight Shooting at Northern Arizona University

Yet another school shooting took place last night, roughly the 249th mass shooting in the United States this year. One person was fatally shot and three people were wounded in a shooting in a parking lot at Flagstaff’s Northern Arizona University.

The university’s public relations director told the Associated Press that first 911 call about gunfire was placed at 1:20 a.m. There’s no information about either the victims or the suspect, who was arrested and remains in custody.

NAU says the incident is over and the school is not in lockdown; they’ve set up a family assistance center at a neighborhood restaurant, but classes are scheduled to go on as usual.

I think Jezebel (and the Community College of Philadelphia?) and various other folks are conflating interpersonal acts of gun violence with mass shootings / school shootings. To me the tell(s) would seem to be when the attacker appears to go after a specific individual versus going after more than one person as well as the time of day of the shooting. If "school shooting" means what its come to mean (an effort at the infliction of MASS casualties) then middle of the night incidents would likely be outside that category since there will necessarily be fewer potential victims on-hand than at other more traffic heavy times of day.

So, interpersonal acts of gun violence or mass shooting / school shooting / spree killings?

Frat Shooter Frequently Posed with Guns
Image
via Instagram

The Northern Arizona University student who shot and killed one person and wounded three others early Friday morning loved guns and frequently posted about them on social media. A university official confirmed to The Daily Beast that the Steven Jones, 18, identified as the shooter is the same person seen in the photographs.

On Friday afternoon, NAU announced that Jones is facing a felony murder charge, as well as three aggravated assault charges.

But before the incident, Jones boasted about his guns. “It’s a full auto kinda day,” he captioned one Instagram photo of himself at an indoor range, holding a machine gun. “‘Merica,” Jones wrote for a July 4th selfie of himself with a shotgun slung over his shoulder, donning an American flag shirt and hat.

In another photograph, Jones wished his father a Happy Father’s Day while the pair posed in an open field holding hunting rifles. Jones was not a member of the Delta Chi fraternity.

FRAT FIGHT

4 AZ Students Shot, 1 Killed, in Campus Fight

Police say Steven Jones, 18, pulled out a handgun and shot up a parking lot fight between students. As one victim died in a friend’s arms, he reportedly fired again.

One student was killed and three others were wounded during a shooting near the Delta Chi fraternity at Northern Arizona University early Friday morning. Early reports indicate that the incident was a fight between students on the Flagstaff campus. Police Chief G.T. Fowler said there was a confrontation between frat members.

The deceased student has been identified as Colin Brough. Nicholas Prato, Kyle Zientek, and Nicholas Piring were hospitalized with gunshot wounds. Their condition is not yet known.

Colin Brough (via Facebook)

Brough’s LinkedIn page identifies him as a member of the class of 2017. A description written in his freshman year says his major was business marketing. “I am associate member of the Delta Chi fraternity, and a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society,” he wrote.

“Friends, my nephew was a casualty in the shooting at NAU,” Prato’s aunt wrote on Facebook, adding that the student was shot in the neck. “Sadly, his best friend was killed in front of him. The shooter is in custody. Please keep the victims and their families in your thoughts and prayers. Stay strong, Nick.”

According to an update posted by the aunt, Prato’s girlfriend was also present during the shooting. She said the girl’s father told her that Prato held Brough as he died, and then was shot. The girl reportedly escaped being shot by running, and the update says that she placed the 911 call.

“Still in a bit of shock right now,” a man who identified himself as Zientek’s stepbrother wrote on Facebook. “He is a strong kid and will overcome this devastating situation.”

Piring is also a junior at the university. His LinkedIn page says he got a full-tuition scholarship, and attends the school’s W.A. Franke College of Business.

The shooter, identified by campus police as Steven Jones, 18, is in custody. The incident was quickly ended, but it was not known if students subdued the freshman before police arrived. The students who were hospitalized had what Fowler described as multiple gunshot wounds.

Delta Chi confirmed that some of its members were involved in the shooting in a statement Friday morning. “We do not have any information on the victims nor do we know if the deceased individual is a member of the fraternity,” the statement read. “At this time, we can confirm that this incident had no ties to the chapter.” It is not immediately clear whether Jones was a member of the fraternity.

Victims Revealed in Northern Arizona University Shooting

An Instagram post from an account purportedly belonging to Jones shows him posing with guns. Arizona is a concealed-carry state, but applicants for permits are required to be 21 years old. The Northern Arizona campus also requires separate permission for weapons on campus.

by Jose Dieppa, Chris Essner and Matthew Grimson

One person was killed and another wounded in a shooting near Texas Southern University on Thursday, police said.

The shooting occurred around 11:30 a.m. CT near the university's student housing complex, police said, and a possible suspect had been detained.

One of the victims was taken to a hospital in a critical condition but later died, NBC affiliate KPRC reported.

The university was placed on lockdown and classes had been cancelled for the day.

Fair points elfissmiles, after I posted it, I wasn't sure that it should be categorized the same. School shooting? I guess, but probably not what most people would think of. A world of difference from someone going rambo on an active classroom. Could be used to serve a similar agenda though I guess.

Cocks not glocks: Dildos to replace guns at UT-Austin campus carry protest
By Lauren McGaughy Updated 10:09 am, Sunday, October 11, 2015

AUSTIN - Hundreds of students at the University of Texas at Austin will protest a new law that will allow more guns on campus not with signs or sit-ins, but by "strapping gigantic swinging dildos to our backpacks."

Their mantra? #CocksNotGlocks

Jessica Jin, who set up the "Campus (DILDO) Carry" event on Facebook, invokes the argument that allowing more guns on campus will make students safe is a fallacy. She's urging students to send campus leaders that message by strapping on the plastic phalluses.

"'You're carrying a gun to class? Yeah well I'm carrying a HUGE DILDO,'" Jin says in the group's description. "Just about as effective at protecting us from sociopathic shooters, but much safer for recreational play."

More than 330 people had signed up to participate by Saturday morning. The "strap in" will occur on Aug. 24, 2016, the first day of next year's fall semester.

The event was created the same day one student was killed and another wounded in a shooting at Texas Southern University, and just days after other deadly shootings on campuses in Oregon and Arizona.

Pro-campus carry advocates have said allowing concealed handguns on campus will enable people to defend themselves in the event of a live shooter, while those against it say it makes little difference and could even add to the chaos.

Gov. Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 11, the campus carry law, in June. Starting in August 2016, the law will allow properly-licensed firearms owners to carry concealed handguns into most buildings on campus. The law also gives a certain amount of latitude to campus presidents, however, to designate so-called "gun-free zones."

At two public forums held in the last month, dozens of UT-Austin students, faculty and staff spoke against the law, urging President Greg Fenves to severely limit campus carry at the flagship. Last week, a professor emeritus in the school's economic department announced he would be giving up teaching over concerns about his personal safety.

Campus carry does not apply to private schools, and doesn't go into effect for community colleges until August 2017.

But the day it does for Longhorns, concealed carry license holders might not be the only one's packing heat on campus. Jin could not be reached for comment Saturday morning, but the San Antonio native and violin performance major encouraged widespread participation in the event.

"ANYBODY can participate in solidarity: alum, non-UT students, people outside of Texas," she wrote on the group's page. "Come one dildo, come all dildos."

Austin is a laboratory of brilliant cognitive dissonance manufacturing of surreal and bizarre nature. I wonder how much of the economy of Austin is driven by it? Elf what do you think? Its totally major piece of the economical landscape isn't it? You're the Austin expert for sure.
