Gingrich: 'let an attack get through just to remind us'

I didn't see this posted elsewhere (it's from 2008) but the “thinking man's Republican" was thinking out loud again:

"...it's almost like they should every once in a while have allowed an attack to get through just to remind us...I mean, think about, think about, think about the psychology...."

He could have let it go as a joke, but no---"think about (think about, think about) the psychology" of it!

Proof to me that Gingrich is a psycho is the fact he can run for president with a straight face after taking $1.8M from Freddy Mac.

If only the idea was original with Newt.

Let one happen, stop the rest.

And about Gingrich: he's beginning to run away with it, having absorbed Cain's base.

Gingrich 37%, Romney 22% Among GOP Voters Nationwide

"Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and howlet's wing,--
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble."

Eye of newt is thought to be a common name for a magical/medicinal herb, not the eye of a living newt. Though there is no way to be absolutely certain, modern herbalists speculate that eye of newt referred to the seeds of the wild mustard plant, which could look like the small yellow eyes of the newt.

Newt is incapable of being or acting like anything other than the absolute bastard he is. Gopers, in their desperation, see him as a straight shooting defender of the endangered white male which is all the gop is at it's heart and the unfettered liberation of capitalism as a theocractic implementation of christian opportunism in the brain. Yes, he has absorbed the house-negro vote ("our black" who's behaviour, upon the slightest reflection, is no worse the Newt.) However, I think the PTB in the republican party see Newt only as a more interesting yet less appealing candidate in the general. Mittens is their man and will be their man unless they draft Jeb Bush at the convention.

I agree, these clowns are all taking turns taking hits for Mitt, in hopes that the nation will have "republican scandal fatigue" as the vote comes closer.

Last night DH and I reviewed the Republican Candidates' logos.

Chris Knowles did a great job in 08 of portraying the presidential race as a semiotic contest of Sirius vs. the Sun.

Taking a page from his book blog, I predict that Newt will get the nod because his logo contained both chevrons and a five-pointed star. It does the best job of channeling Sirius.

It's important to construct Republican candidates for president nowadays that are so scary to thinking people, so incomprehensible in their towering idiocy and so stupifyingly stupid (but in a credible-sounding sort of way) that, come election time, those very same thinking people will feel as though they have almost no choice but to once again engage a political system that they've long since realized was so hopelessly broken and so undemocratic as to render the entire process virtually meaningless.

Most of those people of course will once again vote for Mr. Obama.

And at that moment, somewhere, even a Newt will smile -- and oligarchs will laugh.

funny that. feelings trump. even thinking people.

seriously. other than trying to discern their ritual magic so as to determine what ultimate form the destructor will take, what does it matter who wins this american idol contest? other than art-house preference? i must confess i do enjoy in a twisted way the analysis of their ritual magic, something i rely on this community to provide ; ) keep up the good work. nod to crikkett

LOL. that was good btw sim. i think both parties routinely throw elections in such a manner. dukakis/bush, dole/clinton, mccain/sotero or whatever his name is. age and or a troglodyte/trollish appearance is a big element in the contrast too imo. i think that will play into it if they elevate newt. haven't yet guessed at the mitt's potential usefulness needing a broomstick to hold his spine erect and sonic waves to ward off the woodpeckers from adding to those 59 holes in his head...

I hear you, Elihu. I'm actually a bit horrified to admit this, but my "preferred" candidate won the last presidential election; I therefore have no preferred candidate now or in the foreseeable future in this functionally bicameral, one-party system pageant.

One of the many lessons of the 1960s is that even if the "preferred" candidate becomes president — and in the increasingly unlikely event that he actually tries to do something constructive as president — the people who really run things in this… um, "democracy" will simply kill him if he gets in their way too much.

And, until the present system is demolished, nothing will ever really be done about it, and few will even care.

If you think about it, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to be as idiotic as most of these fools seem to be. Make no mistake, they actually know what they are doing. Since they all see themselves as being god's gift to a world of idiots, they bow to speak to the rest of us in Idiotian. If they didn't do that, they surmise, we would never know what they meant and might actually grow brains of our own and slaughter them in their beach front getaways.

you forgot to put "won" in quotations. i hereby absolve you my son. mine did the one before that. by that admission i throw myself upon the mercy of the mods. if i was permanently banned forever it would be too good for me.

i agree with that which makes it all the more stunning and shocking and stultifying to the intellect........if you think about it. so i won't :partydance:

I re-watched "V for Vendetta" the other night, and Gingrich's remarks struck me as a line from the movie, when Sutler, the evil chancellor, screams, "I want everyone to remember why they need us!"

Gingrich hedges with one word---"almost"---but heads down the slippery slope when he says we should think about it (think about it, think about it). The phrase "it's almost like they should" really becomes "it's very possible they should" let an attack go through.

If allowing an attack to "get through," with the deaths of innocent people---for "the psychology" of it--- is deemed okay, then all the better to control it. Given Gingrich's past behavior, I can see him slipping down this slope, with plenty of encouragement from the "dark players" who are bound to swarm any Gingrich administration.

I wonder if Gingrich knows this. It brings up another aspect of the corruption and brutalization of politics: "C'mon, everybody's doing it!"

"This is the way things work. Make the best of it. Don't stick your neck out, if you know what I mean."

Bringing me back to "V"...(if I read the movie correctly) the 'fancy karate moves' helped, but the end of the dictatorship came mainly from 200,000 people facing down the "authorities" in a public square.

Do you mean voting machine fraud? I doubt they'll need it; Gingrich might be a supply-sider's wet dream, but Obama's been the best Republican president this country's had in years.

And cheering on the bombing of Parliament, the fulfillment of Guy Fawkes' ambition, right?

I don't think that would serve us well.

i can't believe we're even talking about this guy potentially being president.

i just saw his name as if seeing it for the first time.

Grinch. He's not only a Newt, but a Grinch.

Gangrene mixed with Grinch and throw in some Newt.

Yuck.

Just the sound of his name sounds like something growing under a rock.

The GinGRINCH who stole Christmas.
