Investigating the Pentagon’s African Holocaust
Spanish High Court Hears Evidence From Journalist Keith Harmon Snow
by Gearóid Ó Colmáin / December 14th, 2011

On November 29th investigative journalist and genocide expert Keith Harmon Snow testified before Spain’s Highest Court (Audencia Nacional) to support the indictments against 40 Rwandan officials for war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity during the western-backed invasions of Rwanda and Congo/Zaire by Rwandan president Paul Kagame’s Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA) and Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni’s Ugandan People’s Defense Forces (UPDF).

In 2005, the relatives of nine Spanish nationals killed in Rwanda and the Congo in 1994, 1996, 1997 and 2000, filed a lawsuit against the government of Rwanda resulting in the issuing of Interpol international arrest warrants for 40 Rwandan officials of Kagame’s régime.

On 6 February 2008, the Spanish Investigative Judge Andreu Merelles issued an indictment charging 40 current or former high-ranking Rwandan military officials with serious crimes including genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and terrorism, perpetrated over a period of 12 years, from 1990 to 2002, against the civilian population, and primarily against members of the Hutu ethnic group.

While the investigations were initially based on complaints from families of nine Spaniards who were killed, harmed or disappeared during the period at issue, the indictment was subsequently expanded to include crimes committed against Rwandan and Congolese victims, based on the universal jurisdiction doctrine. The indictment rules out the prosecution of Paul Kagame, arguing that he may not be prosecuted as long as he holds the position of President of Rwanda.

According to Spanish lawyer Jordi Palou Loverdos:

Spain’s Audencia Nacional was only met by silence when it duly and formally asked the U.N. to hand over the evidence of these crimes perpetrated against people in 1996 and 1997 or the evidence of the pillaging of valuable mineral resources conducted in these same years or earlier. The international media which had access to the UN report have made public the fact that the UN High Commissioner responsible for the report keeps- separately from the latter- a confidential data bank containing evidence that implicates individual Rwandan and Ugandan military officials.

In spite of threats and intimidation from agents linked to Western governments and from the United Nations, the Spanish High Court authorities are continuing to hear evidence against the Ugandan and Rwandan proxy forces of the United States in Africa.

Keith Harmon Snow has been researching the real facts of the tragedy known to the world as the “Rwandan genocide” (put in quotes?) since 1994, and has, along with many other experts, evidence to prove that the United States, Britain and Israel were responsible for the training, financing and covert military and logistic support of Kagame and Museveni’s forces.

On 6 April 1994, the UPDF/RPA proxy forces assassinated the Rwandan and Burundian presidents (Juvenal Habyarimana and Cyprien Ntaryamira), their military chiefs of staff, and the French pilots of the plane they were flying on, thus provoking and participating in the extermination of hundreds of thousands of Hutus and Tutsis in one of the most violent civil wars in modern history.

Snow also presented detailed evidence of the war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity committed by Kagame and Museveni’s proxy forces, after they invaded the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1996, again backed by the Pentagon, Israel and NATO allies. The Congo/Zaire invasion was commanded by generals Paul Kagame and James Kabarebe, and they involved an officer attached to Kabarebe named Hyppolite Kanambe — alias Joseph Kabila, the strongman in Congo today.

The ongoing Rwandan occupation and plunder of eastern Congo has resulted in the deaths of some ten million people, making this the worst war since the Second World War. The Central African holocaust has been largely ignored by the global mass media corporations who are calling for “humanitarian intervention” in Syria, much as they did to justify invading Libya, by the same countries responsible for supporting mass carnage in Africa.

In spite of orders from Laurent Désire Kabila (Congo’s interim president of 1998-2001), to disengage from the Congo, the RPA and UPDF re-invaded the Congo in 1998, resulting in the Second Congolese War. Although the war is said to have ended in 2001, mass killing of the populations in the mineral rich Kivu provinces of Eastern Congo, under the leadership of these US-backed dictators, has continued to this day.

Contrary to its stated “peacekeeping” mission, the United Nations Observers Mission for the Congo (MONUC) and its follow on dependent, Monusco, has been deployed in the Congo since 2000 and has been involved in sexual violence and contraband activities. MONUC has provided cover for the Rwandan, Ugandan and Burundi forces, USAID, the Pentagon’s new Africa Command (AFRICOM), and scores of Western mining corporations who are plundering the Eastern Congo.

Snow gave detailed testimony to the Audencia Nacional of the American, British, Belgian, German, Israeli and Australian mining corporations who have profited from the Pentagon’s holocaust in the Congo. Banro Corporation, Barrick Gold and many companies run by the Blattner dynasty have profited astronomically from the pillaging of the Congolese people’s resources, as domestic warlords and Western elites enrich themselves while the local people starve.

Snow alleges that these corporations have direct links to the criminal networks run by Paul Kagame, who are plundering the Kivu provinces of the Eastern Congo and massacring the Hutu Rwandan refugees there.
Though the majority of victims have been from the populations of Rwandan Hutus, Rwandan Tutsis and Twa have also been targeted, both in Congo and Rwanda, and many Congolese ethnic groups have been targeted in the Congo. The Kagame regime is determined to eliminate all possible opposition to its rule and to occupy and annex eastern Congo to create a “Republic of the Volcanoes” controlled by Rwanda and populated with satellite US military bases.

Snow told the Spanish court that details collected by the UN Panel of Experts report of 2001 to 2010, detailing the illegal occupation, plunder and war crimes in the Congo, have been watered down by special interest groups linked to Western governments, thus shielding Western corporations and governments from scrutiny by the International Criminal Court and the Criminal Tribunal on Rwanda.

Trained in the notorious Fort Levenworth, Kansas (USA) and advised by former British prime minister Tony Blair, Paul Kagame is without question one of the most evil dictators in modern history. The scale and intensity of his atrocities dwarf those of Pinochet, Suharto and Somoza combined.

In spite of expertise gained on the ground throughout Central Africa spanning 20 years, expert testimony to the US House of Representatives in 2001, extensive work as genocide consultant to the United Nations and numerous meticulously documented reports, Keith Harmon Snow’s work continues to be ignored by the corporate media and many outlets who claim to be ‘progressive’ and ‘independent’ .

According to Snow:

U.S.-based groups fronted by the intelligence and defense establishment and pretending to be ‘grass roots non-government organizations’ — such as the ENOUGH project, Raise Hope for Congo, Resolve, STAND and Save Darfur — have co-opted the grass roots movement and are whitewashing the issues and controlling the media, academic and public spaces to prevent the true grass roots voices for Central Africa from being heard and to prevent the deeper issues from being understood.1

In preparation for a documentary film to be released next year on the African holocaust, Keith Harmon Snow has just completed a series of interviews with distinguished scholars, investigative journalists and lawyers from France, Spain, Germany, Camaroun and Rwanda. The film, as yet untitled, is expected to be aired in film festivals throughout the world and will also be available online for mass viewing.

Rwanda and the Congo belong to the ninth circle of global capitalism’s Dantesque inferno. It is the circle of betrayal; betrayal of the high ideals of the United Nations to uphold the rule of law and work towards the goal of international peace and stability; betrayal of the trust ordinary citizens of the world have in media corporations to tell them what is really happening in the world, so that leaders and potentates can be held to account.

Uncovering the truth about the role of Western imperialism in the violence that has beset Central Africa since the fall of the USSR to the present day, is of vital importance, as the obscene and racist myth of an African genocide America “failed to prevent” constitutes the mendacious and insane basis for the Orwellian “responsibility to protect” doctrine.

Western governments and their pro-Kagame lobbies in the mainstream media are quick to smear as ‘genocide deniers’ those who challenge the lies and distortions of the official genocide narrative of the current Rwandan régime by exposing the inconvenient and politically incorrect facts. In the case of Rwanda and the Congo, it should now be abundantly clear who those genocide-deniers are.

Keith Harmon Snow is a genuine hero. His articles and essays should be required reading for anyone who wants to see what's really behind the curtain, not only "there" but especially "here": Africa is the devils' playground, where they drop the masks and let it all hang out. The connections on display there are jaw-dropping.

yes Alice keith was extremely important in my understanding of what was happening in Africa...I was so ignorant before I discovered him...and when I tried posting his stuff at Democratic Underground I was routinely attacked by the mods there...they especially did not like keith speaking ill of the Clintons... a major factor in my reasoning for leaving there...they hated me using the word genocide in any other context but one...

I can't wait to see his new film

Tshisekedi, Kabila, and Congo
— AfrobeatRadio News | Ann Garrison, Fri, 12/16/2011 - 20:37

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is in political crisis. The Independent National Electoral Commission, which is headed by an ally of incumbent President Joseph Kabila, announced that Kabila is the winner, with 49 percent of the vote. The commission says that his leading challenger, Étienne Tshisekedi, won only 32 percent, but Tshisekedi rejected the results and declared that he now considers himself the nation’s president. The other prominent candidate, Vital Kamerhe, agrees. The Carter Center election observer mission stated that the election "lacks credibility" and reported that they were "unable to provide independent verification of the accuracy of the overall results or the degree to which they reflect the will of the Congolese people."

ImageThe announcement of Kablia's victory led to riots in Kinshasa and calls from opposition leaders for the international community to intervene. There have since been confrontations between demonstrators in the Katanga and North and South Kivu Provinces and military police have arrested protestors in Katanga.

On Thursday December 15th, he US Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a hearing about the crisis, where experts from the International Crisis Group told them that the Congolese election is indefensible and that Kabila is now ruling without a shard of legitimacy.

At the urging of the UN and the Catholic Church, Vital Kamerhe, on December 15th, took the opposition case for annulment of the results and a new election to the Congolese Supreme Court, even though Kabila, anticipating electoral disputes, appointed 18 new Supreme Court judges at the outset of the campaign season, increasing the number of judges on the court from 9 to 27. Kamerhe's lawyers called the proceedings a "travesty of justice" and walked out of the courtroom before the end of the first day. On Saturday, December 17th, the court ruled that Kabila had won the election and was therefore the rightful president of the D.R.C. The East African presidents of Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya, and Sudan have already recognized Kabila, but Obama's State Department has refused to say whether he will or not.

This discussion of Congo's political crisis, with Maurice Carney, Executive Director of Friends of the Congo, and Eric Kamba, Congolese refugee and social worker with the Boston-based Congolese Development Center, was recorded on Saturday, December 10th, and broadcast on WBAI, 99.5fm-N.Y.C. and streaming online, on Thursday, December 15th, 2011.

Somewhere I read a military paper on rating connectedness by communication electronics for any given region.
This determines what can be gotten away with by the military.

Suburban New Jersey - high connectivity. Military can't get away with much. Folks find out and spread the news.
Africa, El Salvador - low connectivity. Military can wipe out villages and get away with it. El Mazote etc.

Western corporate giants settle over who owns Congo riches
— Ann Garrison | KPFA Weekend News, 01.08.2012

< transcript includes Keith Harmon Snow >

KPFA Weekend News Anchor Anthony Fest: Two international corporate giants, one based in London, the other in Vancouver, Canada, have settled a dispute over mining interests in the Congo's Katanga Province. This follows a fall 2011 report, by the International Food Policy Research Institute that the Democratic Republic of Congo now has the world's greatest hunger emergency. International charities have not connected the dots between hunger and starvation in Congo and foreign ownership of Congo's wealth, so say some observers. And some Africa social justice advocates say the big charities exist to obscure that connection. KPFA's Ann Garrison has the story.

KPFA/Ann Garrison: News reports about long running conflict and tragedy in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo most often concern the two Kivu Provinces, North and South Kivu, which are rich in coltan, cassiterite, natural gas, and other resources, but the real heart of Congo's immense wealth is the Katanga Copper Belt in its southeastern-most province, Katanga.

Veteran Africa, Congo, and human rights investigator Keith Harmon Snow spoke to KPFA about the wealth concentrated in Congo's Katanga Province and the significance of London-based Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation's agreement to pay Vancouver-based FIRST Quantum Corporation 1.25 billion dollars to settle disputed mine ownership claims in Katanga:

Keith Harmon Snow: Katanga holds the world's largest copper and cobalt deposits. We don't hear about the Congo's "cobalt connection," because this is one of the most valuable single mineral assets in the world, and companies like First Quantum and Eurasian Natural Resources arrived in the wake of the US-backed invasion of 1996.

Patrice Lumumba, the first Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was asssinated while trying to defend Katanga Province against Belgian paratroopers and Belgian organized secessionist forces.

Stockholders in these companies include arms dealers, Wall Street investment bankers, banks, tycoons -- the "untouchables" who are never mentioned in news, in Human Rights Watch reports or in UN reports, or are never mentioned by the non-profit organizations that organize these speakers' tours at US colleges to "Save" or "RAISE HOPE" for the Congo. Imagine, 1.25 billion dollars to settle a dispute! We're talking about hundreds of billions of dollars involving friends of Bill Clinton and George Bush and Margaret Thatcher and Benjamin Netanyahu, and meanwhile, people today are still starving and being butchered in the Congo.

KPFA: Neither the International Food Policy Research Institute nor any of the news reports about the mining settlement suggest that western corporate ownership of Katanga's wealth might explain the starvation, disease or human rights atrocities that are acute and ongoing. Snow says that the international mega charities, otherwise known as the "misery industry," serve to obscure the obvious:

Keith Harmon Snow: Yeah, Westerners have no idea what is happening in Congo. I don't care what movies we've seen or what speakers we've heard or what panels we've attended. In Congo in the 2004 and 2007 time frame, I saw some of the world's worst starvation one could imagine. The profits made by the capitalist aid enterprise exceed the profits made by all the minerals, petroleum, and forest exploitation combined. Why is it suddenly in vogue to produce a report about starvation in Congo? This is one of the world's nastiest dictatorships, and the mercenaries, the massacres, the torture and disappearing that accompanied the recent Congolese elections were whited out by the media. It's the same with the big mining and its connections to suffering and to the atrocities.

KPFA: January 17th will mark the 51st anniversary of Congolese independence hero Patrice Lumumba's assassination for attempting to defend Katanga Province against secessionist forces of Veteran Africa, Congo, and human rights investigator Keith Harmon Snow organized by Belgian soldiers and intelligence operatives. Belgium had long controlled the vast profits made from Katanga's copper, diamonds, gold, uranium, and cobalt, which remain in foreign hands to this day.

Al Shabaab and Somali pirates created by international piracy and military force
— Ann Garrison | AfrobeatRadio | Thu, 01/19/2012 - 15:03

WBAI AfrobeatRadio on Somalia, with journalist/Icc Broadcasting Network host Hassan Isilow and University of Minnesota Professor Abdi Samatar

On 11.26.2011, we spoke to Professor Abdi Samatar and journalist Hassan Isilow, following that week's news, reported by Democracy Now, the Daily Maverick and other outlets, that U.S. ally Ethiopia had once again invaded Somalia across Somalia's Western border backed up by the ongoing U.S. drone bombing from U.S. military bases in the region. The Telegraph reported, on November 15th, that Israel is supporting the Kenyan invasion of Somalia across its southern border.

    This week's Somalia news included:

The fundamentals of the Somali crisis discussed on AfrobeatRadio in November remain the same. Abdi Samatar said, and Hassan Isilow agreed that international forces imposing a political project on Somalia, plus the Ethiopian occupation, produced Al-Shabaab and "the Somali pirates." Abdi Samatar said that the biggest pirates off the Somali coast are the international fishing fleets who have stolen billions of dollars worth of fish from the mouths of the Somali people, and Hassan Isilow said that local piracy had also arisen in response to foreign ships dumping toxic waste off the Somali Coast.

Abdi Samatar said, "I think what our audience needs to know is that there was a great deal of hope about the coming of the Obama Administration to power. And many of us worked for him . . . The tragedy is that this Administration has done more damage than even the Bush Administration overseas, especially in Somalia."

Some of the live links are worth checking out also

http://nsnbc.wordpress.com/
Dr. Christof Lehmann
Where did Outara get an Army from? Outara´s “Army” consisted of a collection of “rebel forces” or French backed insurgents from the Northern part of Ivory Coast, who had been convinced by the French DGSE (22) and old colonial power structures, inherent in among other French Freemasonry in Africa, to side with Outara, against Laurent Gbagbo (23). Besides that, 2.500 French soldiers (24), plus U.N. Soldiers (25) were present, taking actively part in the ousting of Laurent Gbagbo, and the legitimate government of Ivory Coast. That is where Outara got “His Army” from. Insurgents, French and U.N. Troops were Outara´s Army. (26) An army that murdered thousands of Ivory Coast´s citizens in the neo-colonial post-modern coup d´etat. Justice on Laurent Gbagbo is then served at the United Nation´s ICC making the U.N., France and the USA the judge, the jury, and the executioner.(27)

So “why” had France to remove Gbagbo from Office.

The question that needs to be answered, before it is possible to discern why the events in Ivory Coast and Libya as they do is “why” did the USA and France want Laurent Gbagbo and Ghadafi removed from political office. The unrests, the engineering of dissent, the alliances with armed militia, politicians and oligarchs are nothing but “functions” and “instruments”. It is comparable with a script for a play in the world political theater; the script is written, the acts planned, long before the cast of actors is chosen. The discourse of political reporting, and the manufacturing of opinion discuss the cast, seldom the play writer, almost never the play writers motivation, and that is one of the most critical functions of media with respect to social engineering. It is absolutely necessary to have an understanding of this background to understand the subversions in Ivory Coast and Libya. After World War II the European Economies were scrambling to reconstitute. So was that of France, which devised long term plans for economical recovery in several phases. The traditional form of colonial control by military might and absolute political control had, in spite of the richness of African resources, become too costly, to cumbersome, and in the light of the depletion of military force due to two major conflicts, become impossible. What is also noteworthy is, that the post-war period also is the period where the development of media and Public Relations significantly began substituting police and military force as instruments for social control (28).

Laurent Gbagbo had discussions with other visionary African leaders who not only knew that the new-colonization of Africa was keeping African nations impoverished and virtually enslaved, it´s citizens being the back bone of new colonial powers economy, but who had vision, courage, and integrity in resisting the usurpers of Europe, the USA, and globalized Corporate Influences. Most prominently, Robert Mugabe, President of Zimbabwe, and Muammar al-Ghadafi, honorary leader of the Libyan Revolution. One of the main reasons why Laurent Gbagbo had to be replaced by France, and replaced fast, was that Gbagbo was not only seriously working towards creating Ivory Coasts own currency, that would be independent on France, but that he, like Robert Mugabe and Muammar Ghadafi, actively lobbied and encouraged other African nations in the CFA region to follow suit (29). The main reason why France “never would allow this to happen” in one of it´s old colonies is, that the CFA is one of the main sources of income for the French economy. Not only does France control the value of the CFA, and thus how much it earns on trade with CFA nations, not only does France cooperate with the IMF on regular devaluations of the CFA (30), France is printing the money for and exerts absolute control over the eight African countries economy.

More over, the monetary policy of France in governing the eight nations economy is in fact operated by the French Treasury, without any reference to the central fiscal authorities of any of these eight nations. Under the terms of the CFA Agreement, it is France that is unilaterally setting up these African nations Central Banks, and each of the eight countries is obliged to keep at least 65 % of it´s foreign exchange reserves in an “operations account” held at the French Treasury, as well as another 20% to cover financial liabilities (31). In other words, 85 % of all foreign exchange reserves of Ivory Coast, Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea Bisau, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo are 100 % under control of the French Treasury, with France in a position to devalue and manipulate these countries economy to it´s own advantage. The CFA was created to keep African nations impoverished, to maintain the plunder of their resources and wealth, while feeding the French and European Economy (32). The social unrest that follows in the wake of new devaluations (33), is then hard handedly oppressed by those “African Vice Roy´s” that are nepotist enough to co-operate with France as agents of their own nations and peoples enslavement. Laurent Gbagbo opposed the colonial master because Laurent Gbagbo was working for the benefit of his people and Ivory Coast; That is why Laurent Gbagbo had to be removed.

The actions (asset stripping) are what tell the true story. All the high blown words that eases the conscience of the folk back home with tales of western wisdom that may yet some day bring ‘higher principles’ into play to the currently ‘backward’ countries, merely serves to remove perception of reality so far away from reality, that it becomes all the more difficult to bridge this gap. Maintenance of this gap is the unstated purpose of major media.

The strategic choice made by ‘intelligence’ agencies is often to sponsor and support the most perverted expression of a given imperative or principle amongst the target group. This makes for an easy hook used to drive later narrative that covers true objectives under a scripted veneer of righteousness. The cost benefit analysis has been done and sorry but lying is found to be the most effective modality for social control.

Then there's the real-life Somalia, where the pirates are simply interested in stealing and extorting as much as they can, and don't care about the welfare of the people of Somalia or anyone else. The two aid workers rescued from the pirates last night were both affiliated with an NGO that works to remove landmines. These are people giving their time and money to help ordinary Somalis, but to the pirates, they're simply a target for extortion.

REPORTING FROM JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA -- U.S. military forces carried out a dramatic helicopter rescue overnight in Somalia, freeing two Western aid workers taken hostage by pirates.

Jessica Buchanan, a 32-year-old American, and Poul Hagen Thisted, a 60-year-old Dane, both from the Danish Demining Group had been kidnapped in October in the central Somali town of Galkayo, which until then had been considered relatively safe for Westerners.

Early Wednesday, the Danish Refugee Council, of which the demining group is a part, confirmed the successful rescue of the two aid workers.

Yes,yes Sepka sure it's always the victims fault.

I'm just happy that you are working with a script that properly reflects the simplicity of your mind.

I have heard that adopting that script can take one far in life. Plus you get the added benefit of always remaining drunk on western exceptionalism.

cheers

Sepka: As per your oversimplistic script that routinely ignores and softpedals the role of US, NATO and international corporations for causing horrific suffering and civil conflict and then exploiting the resulting chaos, your 'take' on things is simply breathtaking in its resolute determination to focus only on those trivial incidents that reinforce your pro-Imperialist bias.

Or like you, am I oversimplifying your biases?
