Palmer says green groups funded by CIA

[australian] Mining magnate Clive Palmer has accused the United States government of funding environmental group Greenpeace via the CIA to undermine Australia's coal mining sector.

Mr Palmer made the extraordinary claim over Greenpeace's plan to use the court system to tie up coal mining applications.

He is angry at Greenpeace's plan to use lawyers to thwart future coal mining projects and claims funding is coming from US environmental charity the Rockefeller Foundation.

He alleges it is funded by the CIA and says it is trying to harm Australia's industry and help American interests.

Mr Palmer referred to a paper produced by environmental group Greenpeace which calls for action to stop the expansion of the Queensland coal industry.

Greenpeace's plans were leaked to the media earlier this month as it organises a campaign to raise $6 million to fund legal battles against controversial coal mining projects across Australia.

"You only have to go back and read the Church Report in the 1970s and to read the reports to the US Congress which sets up the Rockefeller Foundation as a conduit of CIA funding," he said.

"You only have to look at their secret budget which was passed by Congress last year, bigger than our whole national economy, which the CIA's got to ensure that.

"You only have to read the reports to US Congress when the CIA reported to the president that their role was to ensure the US competitive advantage and economic advantages.

"That's how you know it's funded by the CIA." ...

The most sense i can make of it is Mr Palmer trying to cement his aussie cred by bashing yanks, but that hasn't been fashionable in business circles in decades. He is a major donor to Lib-Nats, party of GWBs lil'deputy John Howard, so maybe hes projecting secrets there. If i really let rip, maybe hes been sent bananas, a victim of BHPB&RioTintos push to wrestle dominance of Oz mining back off the local oligarchs. Maybe Oz has been green-lighted on US-style crazification, i just don't get it, any guidance welcome.

I don't have much patience for "coal mining magnates."

At least they're pretty consistant - guess what this ones position is on climate change? lol

But theres things about this that don't make sense. It appears that a foolish rich man just burnt a heap of credibility with wild and unsubstantiated claim. It is true, if mostly unspeakable, that the CIA works for economic interests, but not so far as evidence suggests via Greepeace. Palmer has been increasingly out-there over last 12 months, and strangeness is not AFAIK known for helping secure multibillion$ coal-export partnerships, which is Palmers day job. whats in it for him in saying this?

I don't believe the CIA has any interest in undermining the Australian coal-ming sector, Australia being a tight U.S. ally and all.

Fwiw, starting in 1980, intuition alerted me to an agenda of the global conservationist movement that had a misanthropic foundation to it, and it's my firm conviction that when future historians write about it, the perpetrators will go down as to being the very worst type of humanity that ever arose on this planet, recorded or unrecorded.

Apparently the Pope and Alex Jones got the same 'intuition'.
Can i venture a guess: your worldview has humans as more-divine than the rest of creation, true?

Something like this....

God sleeps in the rock,
Dreams in the plant,
Stirs in the animal,
And Awakens in Man.
- Al Arabi

..or this...

I died as a mineral and became a plant;
I died as a plant and rose to animal;
I died as an animal and I was a man.
Why should I fear?
When was I less by dying?
Yet once more I shall die as man to soar...
With angels blest.
But even from an angel I must pass on:
All except God must perish.
When I have sacrificed my angel soul,
I shall become what no mind ever conceived.
-Jalaluddin Rumi

I don't know, Ben, it seems at least two species can appear to be equally smug:

You're welcome.

Btw, in esoteric lore, the attempt to resist or retard the natural Cosmic evolutionary processes implied in those Sufi pieces is considered cosmic evil. It's the ultimate rebellion!

Bernard Keane on Crikey
..Nor is it the first time he’s accused people of being a CIA front — back in November, it was American Express who were doing the bidding of the spooks.

Most conspiracy theorists don’t own political parties, however. The former Bjelke-Petersen spinner was a key force in the establishment of the Liberal National Party, although he now professes to disappointment with his offspring. ..
This isn’t the first time Palmer has had a lash at the US. In November he boasted of not attending the reception for Barack Obama on his Australian visit, resentful as he was of the Gillard government’s agreement to establish a training facility for US marines near Darwin. “Why a do you think the likes of the head of BHP and myself didn’t go to the dinner?” Palmer said to the Financial Review. “We have real interests (in China) and know how the Chinese act.”

Clive loves China and Chinese government investment. It is critical to many of his ventures ...

Okay, thats credible, obvious even. Combined with his reflexive hatred of Greenpeace, and no real slur on the CIA, his outburst seems crazy like a fox, and less remarkable.
