"Mirage Men" to be released as a documentary film

Directed by John Lundberg, which is a pretty clear signal of where they're going to take this one. Still, I'll happily pirate it and watch it a couple times.

The Abuses of Enchantment
Posted on March 16, 2012 by Mark

Here’s a video of a presentation I gave for Dr David Luke’s ‘Ecology, Cosmos and Consciousness’ lecture series at London’s October Gallery in February 2011. The talk incorporates and expands upon some of the ideas outlined in Mirage Men.

In this audio-visual presentation Mark shows how military and intelligence operators have shaped and exploited beliefs in UFOs, ghosts, monsters, vampires, and elements from folklore and conspiracy theory to create an armoury of supernatural weapons of mass deception capable of manipulating consciousness on a grand scale. The inspiration for these toys, tools and techniques has come from a range of sources including fiction, cinema, stage magic, advertising and occultism and has, for many of its intended and unintended targets, altered their very perception and understanding of the world around us.

David is putting together an anthology based around this long-running series, to be published in the near future by my own Strange Attractor Press.

Please do me a favor, you and everyone else.

When you do this:

Please also add, after that, the straight youtube/video link as html. Because that at least should always work.

Disiinfo film pretending to by 'truthy.'

The inclusion of disinfoteer Linda Moulton Howe pretending to be a 'truther' fingerprints the psyop. End of story.

Next.

Hugely enjoyed watching this and taking notes this evening. Watched it once before under strange circumstances (nothing covert, just too many psychedelics at a friends house) and as expected, it was completely different film without an awe-filled What If? ET question hanging over the proceedings.

Details I was struck by:

* AFSOI officer saying "...it was very unfortunate what happened to Mr. Bennetwitz. But it was their job to protect something and they did their job."

* At so many points, Richard Doty comes off as a smirking dick, yet seems to be vindicated -- for instance, a parallel NSA team camping out in front of Bennewitz's house. The NSA detail comes back to me continuously as I wonder how much Doty is being honest, and how much the NSA picked up the gaslighting of Bennewitz after the AFOSI gave up. Most remarkable is the claim that the NSA completely replaced his computer with an identical model with backdoored remote controls over every aspect of the OS and BIOS.

* Linda Moulton Howe comes off as the single least trust-worthy character in the film. There are snippets of confrontational interview footage, and I wonder if this angle was designed by the Pilkington brothers out of spite. The most alarming and subtle point of the film is the 52-55 minute mark, where Doty and Howe really appear to be working in concert -- very sketchy footage.

* The details on "Project Gas Buggy" are both stunning and plausible -- nuclear fracking is exactly the kind of Military Industrial Co-operative projects I would expect from the dipshit geniuses at RAND. The "cattle mutilation" angle has a certain Occam's Razor beauty in that light, too. I am struck by, given the US NatSec State's long history of blowback, how much the young AF recruits who were running those missions were honorably discharged into very strange and dark civilian careers...

* "Disinformation is designed to appeal to the person its operating on." ... biggest reason I see the X-Files refrain of "I Want to Believe" as a victim's lament...

* Doty is brutal in his assessment of Moore. Doty also seems like he is at his most honest when recounting how totally he controlled an asset: "...we had a professional relationship, as far as him providing us with information on the UFO community..." As well as the SOP passing detail: "Moore was singled out because he had achieved considerable celebrity in the UFO field..." So does Russell Brand start as an asset or become one? (Does this "halo effect" and self-selection bias also apply to Edward Snowden, Oliver North and Alexander Haig?)

* Bill Moore being a trickster and/or whistleblower: "What we are hearing today about malevolent aliens, underground bases, secret treaties with the US government, has its roots firmly planted in the Bennewitz Affair."

At the 1:08 mark, the Pilkington's introduce Project Camelot's Bill Ryan as a "Management Training Consultant" and give him ample screen time for a "How do we know what we know" monologue.

It is quite remarkable that they do not examine Ryan himself in any depth, allowing him to come off as a reasonable man. In the service of their thesis, he provides some great lines, so I guess it all comes down to filling out a feature-length documentary.

Doty's assertion he was not involved with SERPO is perfectly plausible (I think there's a tradecraft name for this double bind, yeah?) given the nature of compartmentalization.

I understand researcher's frustration at Doty's repeated claims to be merely a cog in a larger machine, but considering he was an employee of the US Military, perhaps we can take that claim at face value, at least.

Thanks for the notes ... I gotta see this asap.

... is that a different story than the AFOSI giving Bennewitz a backdoor loaded PC via JAHynek?

I'm drawing a blank on the NSA's alleged role as described in Bishop's PROJECT BETA. If it's in there I've probably just forgotten.

Well, per the film print I've got, at the 10:30 mark Richard Doty discusses Paul Bennewitz giving an actual briefing to the Kirkland brass.

"He asked for a grant to investigate UFOs on the base...and a grant to continue this contact that he...claimed he had with some of these aliens, which, well, that's a different story...

At one point, another agency, uh, was conducting an investigation and they set up surveillance across the street from him. And Paul's son contacted me and said, "Leave my father alone. You guys are across the street, and you're bothering my father. He's getting to the point where he's being paranoid."

Well, I knew it wasn't us.

Shortly after, Greg Bishop narrates...

"As it turns out, the NSA had some people in this house -- they were watching him and actually beaming messages across the street into his antenna setup. He started picking up these signals, and the NSA was scared that anybody could figure that out. They decided, just take complete control of what he's seeing, and give him exactly what the thought he should be getting. They replaced his computer with their own computer. The computer had software that could "decode" the messages he was getting, they way they wanted him to see them.

And if you look at the transcript of it, it seems like almost gibberish, but because people want to pull out content from random order, it starts to make some kind of sense.

Speaking of "the transcript of it," I would love to get ahold of the longest possible sequence of those messages. I have only seen a few paragraphs and it's fascinating stuff, reminds me of Hubbard & Burroughs.

Just watched it the other night(thanks for the heads up)

Funny how Doty ends up becoming an obsessive UFO convention devotee in the end.

I got the gist of the film was Doty saying all the popular UFO/alien tropes were made up decoys to keep people from snooping in on US experimental craft...but that this one time, I actually saw real alien footage film at my army base?

The whole Abovetopsecret/Art Bell obsessive Dulce New Mexico/Majestic 12 stuff felt like obvious gub'ment disinfo to begin with.

Also this film seems to back up the Roswell = Mongoose official gub'ment theory?

Finally watched this last night ... it's available for streaming on Netflix.

Will likely be watching it again soon and want to comment on some of the bits up-thread.
