The Nose Tap

Postby FourthBase » Wed Jan 23, 2013 5:16 pm

I think I started a topic about this once upon a time. The habit some politicians have to tap or brush the side of their noses, not like an involuntary tic, but more like the hand signals of third base coaches, or like hand versions of HTML brackets, "[notserious]…[/notserious]". The upcoming John Kerry hearings should be a perfect opportunity to test this hypothesis. It's not often that the predictiveness of a conspiracy theory can be measured in such a particular way. Kerry will consciously and conspicuously tap/rub/brush the side of his nose at multiple points in his testimony. And it will be interesting to see exactly which parts of his testimony get the nose-tap-bracket treatment. Not that we will necessarily know why.

That's a charming theory, FB, and testable, as you say. Please test it on Kerry and let us know the results.

But maybe now you've outed them they'll be forced to change their system. ("Curses!") They'll have to start crossing their eyes instead.

Or picking their nose. Or scratching their balls. It would enliven politics no end.

"[notserious]…[/notserious]".

Actually, you could put that around Obama's entire inaugurational drone, or indeed almost any prominent politician's entire speech.

Yeah, if not HTML brackets, then maybe individual asterisks, secretive footnotes, alluded to for and only interpretable by those in the know? As in…

Kerry: …and we honor the lives of those diplomats who sacrificed all [nosetap]* in the service of country.

Well, I've been sick as a dog, watching the hearing best I can but mostly sleeping. Kerry is so fucking boring. Anyway, there have been several conspicuous, unnatural nose touches. And that is only in the half hour of testimony I haven't slept through.

EDIT: It may not be just the nose. There was an interesting eyeswipe, too. At one point, I imagined what it might be like if every gesture was a signal. It kinda worked. Thing is, when people have secrets they need to communicate, like opponents in a sport, they use a signal system. I would be surprised if elite secret society types don't have a similar system. And yeah, people involuntarily scratch and brush and swipe their face all the time. What makes Kerry interesting is just how deliberate those supposed tics seem, how judiciously they occur. He would have enough will power to tame his touching impulse to almost nothing, but not enough to stop him from still surrendering to the impulse once every so often in an oddly controlled manner at interesting junctures?

I dunno FB, on average people touch their face more than 5 times a minute. Those hearing conditions may alter the frequency, but those more used to public exposure, like Kerry, may have learned to tame his touching.

The urge to tap or touch ones nose is an unconscious gesture that mainly occurs when someone is lying or making something up. It's a liars give away, well known among body language experts. Not to imply any of the celebrities mentioned above, but cocaine users also tend to touch their noses quite a bit...

Dianne Feinstein, as she started to introduce Brennan, with a classic nose tap. Wish I could get a gif of it and insert into its exact place in the transcript. Might be illuminating. Might not be.

p.s. A resounding round of applause for Code Pink! Perfect execution of a protest, impeccable timing. Feinstein being forced to eat shit and clear the room: Priceless.

Not sure if you're talking about "laying one's finger alongside one's nose" but if you are, that's been reported by a number of survivors of mind control programs (including me). It's not a tap--the index finger is very deliberately placed beside the nose for a couple of seconds, touching the skin. It's accompanied by a sly, knowing smirk on the part of the handler or programmer, in my experience. Other survivors have said they thought it was a programming cue.

I can easily see why it would be used as an "insider" gesture, since it's so close to normal human behavior to touch the nose, but it's more deliberate.

Yes, this. In the possible case of bigwigs like Kerry or Feinstein using it as a signal, it would be unaccompanied by a smirk, and last a good bit less than a full two seconds.

...

Tapping the nose to indicate a shared secret is a common gesture, not at all connected to mind control topics per se.

From wiki;

Touching or tapping the side of the nose with the index finger means "we share a secret". It is of British origin and then was popularized in America by the movie The Sting.

Quite innocent, popular and commonly understood hand gesture.

It's not secret illuminati code or anything.
