NYT report was eloquent crap, an update of State Dept talking points, gleefully unburdened by context & history.

I didn't know you fancied the Tea Party/FauxNews point of view...is that you Chairman Issa?
Mazars and Deutsche Bank could have ended this nightmare before it started.
They could still get him out of office.
But instead, they want mass death.
Don’t forget that.

This is precisely why the binary trap is so effective ... Also precisely why the NYT piece was at such pains to frame itself as a "murky" third way, despite being a lengthy apologia for our Al-Q sponsorships in Syria and Afrique.

As for Issa, I can only hope for a criminal record as distinguished as his.

Re: binary trap, among other pap:

A comprehensive New York Times investigation into the deadly 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi found no evidence of involvement by al-Qaeda or other terrorist groups; in fact, according to the report, the attack was largely fueled by anger at the American-made video "The Innocence of Muslims."

Because the Christians in Pakistan probably hate us just as much as the Muslims there do - And, for a random example, German Muslims probably don't hate us any more or less than any other German.

And American-Muslims certainly don't hate Americans.

Speaking personally, I don't have animosity towards Muslims because a cult-like offshoot of religious extremists attacked us on 9/11. But because of our foreign policy and military actions, I can understand why people have animosity towards us. Yesterday 6:16pm

1. Universal health care. let the free market do drive competition and let government stay out of my health and wallet.

Passed 90s Republican healthcare plan, previousdly passed by Mitt Romney when he was governor of MA. While not perfect, it still brought better care at low prices. Is entirely market based.

Also, you may have noticed doing it your way didn;t work. That's why it needed to be fixed.

bajmahal51UStarMember1L
Is that why you troll? Seriously Starmember, just to provoke any sort of emotional response? I mean there was only one or two responses here that showed any genuine annoyance, let alone anger. And you're not even wasting anyone's time by hijacking the conversation because the kinja system is setup so that multiple threads co-exist for every article, so everyone who has responded to you did so of they're own volition — you haven't tricked anyone really (straight-forwardly telling a lie at the start and being called on it almost immediately isn't much of a trick). And Gawker is all about the conversations, so saying something provocative to start the conversation is pretty much expected and not, in and of itself, considered trolling.

"1. Universal health care. let the free market do drive competition and let government stay out of my health and wallet."

Medicaid and Medicare have been around for quite some time now. How did the Republicans not wipe that out while they were in office? Or are they socialists too?

"2. Loves to tax the hard working Americans."

Yes, not the rich who have money to spare for higher taxes. They paid for his campaign, after all.

"3. hates guns and wants to take our guns away. Eventually using the military to seize power from the people."

Please tell us which piece of legislation has banned which types of guns. I'm at a bit of a loss to identify any.

The militarization of police forces happened under G. W. Bush. You might remember 9/11? The Patriot Act? The Department of Homeland Security? The (domestic) War on Terror? No?

"4. spies on honest Americans."

That's the NSA. Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans run the NSA. Try again.

"5. he shook Raul castro's hand."

Nixon shook Mao Zedong's hand. I'm pretty sure he didn't suddenly abandon the Republican Party in favor of the Communist Party. In some circles, shaking someone's hand is considered polite behaviour. You can even look it up, if you choose.

"6. Hates freedom."

Which is why there are only State run newspapers, television, radio, and movies. Riiiiight.

"7. Wants to increase funding for "urban" people."

You mean people living in cities and towns? Where most of America lives? So... like... funding most of the populace? Should all government spending be limited to farmers and ranchers, or just those living in the wilderness?

I actually think the op of this thread is right. It'd be nice if Gawker picked a story from a moderate leaning newspaper. They did not do that in this situation. And I'm not even political. I consider myself apolitical for religious reasons. Not kidding.

Muslims in Egypt hate the USA, while Coptic Christians appreciate America as a refuge as they are being driven out of Egypt.

Muslims in Germany hate the USA more than the other Germans do. Muslim religious leaders preach hate against America because we dare support Israel's right to exist - which is against all Muslim beliefs in any country. Yesterday 10:50pm

Let's just say that something like Newsmax would be too conservative, and New York Times is much too liberal. "...which is against all Muslim beliefs in any country."

That's a vastly sweeping and short sighted statement.
All Muslims don't believe the same thing nor hold the same political views - just like how all Christians don't have the same beliefs and views nor do all Jews.

And let's be honest. The U.S. has done WAY more than just 'support Israel's right to exist'. Way, way, way more.

It's also naive of you to think Egyptian Christians like or seek out America. They go several places as refugees - America isn't high on that list. They and the aid groups involved know they're more likely to be harassed or even harmed for 'looking and/or sounding Muslim' than being accepted here. Yesterday 11:20pm

I completely thought he was serious until he said "shout out to Ronald Reagan." Then I realized I had bitten on the bait.

1, the ACA is patterned on Romneycare. You remember Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential candidate of 2012? When he was governor of MA he said it was the right thing to make certain that everyone had insurance so as not to be a drain on the social welfare nets. The big difference between ACA and Romneycare? Romneycare pays for abortions and has single payer (socialized medicine) the ACA has neither.

2, if he loves to tax hardworking US citizens why are taxes at their lowest point in over thirty years?

3, really can you show any of us how or have you only been watching Fox?

6, really? How?

7, really, are you meaning not cutting food stamps?

US 'switched sides in the War on Terror'

Benghazi attack could have been prevented if US hadn't 'switched sides in the War on Terror' and allowed $500 MILLION of weapons to reach al-Qaeda militants, reveals damning report
Citizens Committee on Benghazi claims the US government allowed arms to flow to al-Qaeda-linked militants who opposed Muammar Gaddafi
Their rise to power, the group says, led to the Benghazi attack in 2012
The group claims the strongman Gaddafi offered to abdicate his presidency, but the US refused to broker his peaceful exit
The commission, part of the center-right Accuracy In Media group, concluded that the Benghazi attack was a failed kidnapping plot
US Ambassador Chris Stevens was to be captured and traded for 'blind sheikh' Omar Abdel-Rahman, who hatched the 1993 WTC bombing plot

On September 11th, 2012, gunmen attacked two American compounds in Benghazi, Libya, killing four Americans. Sean Smith, one of the four killed in the attack, was an IT manager in the real world, but online, he was Vile Rat, a hugely influential diplomat in the video game Eve Online. Alex talks to Sean's friend Alex "The Mittani" Gianturco about who Sean was both in Eve and in the real world.

yes, and that truth is exactly what the fools on fox have been working overtime to obscure since day one. fucking obama didn't clean house and the neocon scum have been running the show since 2008, and president fool can take the fall for all I care at this point, but of course, nothing's going to happen, since this will be quickly forgotten.

Smoking Gun? WH Email Instructs Officials to Blame Benghazi on Video
Rhodes gave direction that the purpose of Rice's appearance was to "underscore that these protests are rooted in and Internet video, and not a broader failure or policy.”
4.29.2014 | Jeff Dunetz

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3QNrKQIo3Q

A new State Department document obtained by Judicial Watch via a FOIA request reveals that then White House Deputy Strategic Communications Adviser Ben Rhodes and other Obama administration public relations officials coordinated a campaign to “reinforce” President Obama's image and to portray the Benghazi consulate terrorist attack as being “rooted in an Internet video, and not a failure of policy.”

According to the Judicial Watch press release:

The main point of the White House team’s strategy was to paint the terrorist attack as being “rooted in an Internet video and not a failure of policy,” Judicial Watch said in an emailed release. Meanwhile, the State Department — at the same time that message was being shaped — initially considered the incident simply an “attack,” and perhaps even a kidnap try, the watchdog said.

A review of the Rhodes' email (shown below) shows it to be a possible "smoking gun" explaining how Ambassador Rice received the direction to blame the Benghazi attack on an internet video.

The email was sent two days before Susan Rice appeared on five of the Sunday news programs, Friday, September 14, 2012, at 8:09 p.m. with the subject line: “RE: PREP CALL with Susan, Saturday at 4:00 pm ET." indicating that Rhodes was dictating the political line that was used for the Ambassador Rice appearance.

In the goals section, Rhodes gave direction that the purpose of Rice's appearance was "To underscore that these protests are rooted in and Internet video, and not a broader failure or policy.”

Then in the "top lines," section Rhodes returns to the You Tube video:

We’ve made our views on this video crystal clear. The United States government had nothing to do with it. We reject its message and its contents. We find it disgusting and reprehensible. But there is absolutely no justification at all for responding to this movie with violence. And we are working to make sure that people around the globe hear that message.

Copied on the email were all the major Administration communication and political personnel including: White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, Deputy Press Secretary Joshua Earnest, then-White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer, then-White House Deputy Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri, then-National Security Council Director of Communications Erin Pelton, Special Assistant to the Press Secretary Howli Ledbetter, and then-White House Senior Advisor and political strategist Davie Plouffe, so there is no way the White House can contend they were unaware of the memo.

While the mainstream media attempts to convince the public that everything about the Bengazi attack that killed four American heroes on 9/11/12 has been discovered, the release of this and other memos revealed by Judicial Watch proves there is much more to be investigated.

Okay, what if it turns out that an attempt was made to deflect blame for whatever intelligence or security failure or bad command decision set the stage for the killing of the ambassador and three other U.S. personnel? Out of 501 randomly selected crimes of the U.S. government, what does that make it in terms of its importance? No. 501? I'd argue for No. 502.

A group of NATO powers staged a bombing of Libya to force a regime change, and caused damage to that society from which it is unlikely ever to recover. That's a very big crime. It's also one in a long series of similar aggressive actions by the same group of traditional imperialist states acting in a variety of coalitions through the decades. At some point, in the resultant chaos, due to whatever unpredictable situation developed for whatever precise reasons on the ground, some of the local personnel of the military power that led the bombing campaign were killed. That's a predictable and minor consequence of the actual crime.

For years, a Republican noise machine has fetishized the minutiae of this incident into something literally about 10 million times more important than it actually is, for the purpose of personally discrediting the currently Democratic administration of the perpetual war machine, and to reinforce the general prejudice that makes the life of one member of the U.S. elite more important than the dying of millions of non-U.S. people around the globe, or the even the crushing of 10 million U.S. students by their debts. It's a grotesque declaration of their priorities.

The corporate media, as is their wont, have played along in legitimating this focus on the minutiae of some minor incident in Libya (while not bothering to investigate anything about the imperialist aggression in Libya). They don't generally support the Republican interpretation, but they grant it coverage, since it has always been essential to give extra weight to Republican obsessions. That's how it's always been. The game is to label the militarist Democratic party as liberal, overly tolerant, peace-seeking, weak surrender monkeys, as the farthest left that it's possible to go, the farthest left that will even be acknowledged as existing on television. Also, the Republicans, being based in entirely irrational concerns, are the likelier of the duopoly parties to suddenly collapse and damage the useful narrative of two opposing parties representing all legitimate concerns. So they're getting a perpetual free pass on the made-up scandal front. (Compare what happens typically in Democratic sex scandals to the Republican ones.)

Meanwhile, EVERYTHING else is more important. Even what happened to the Malaysian plane (still 99% of all CNN coverage) is more important. Rounding up, with 239 dead, the plane is 60 times more important. Also, they weren't engaged in fucking up some distant foreign country and thus wittingly putting themselves at risk, they were only flying.

:thumbsup --> jack

it's no smoking gun AT ALL, they did think at that time the "protests" going on were about the fucking video, because that's what the protestors said. That a group used the protests as cover to stage a kidnap attempt was in that false smoking gun too, they suspected that early. big deal. judicial watch working on promoting its name of any substance. typical.

Gunmen Storm Libya Parliament
Source: BBC

Gunmen have stormed Libya's parliament, forcing MPs to abandon a vote on a new prime minister, officials say.

Correspondents say lawmakers left the building after hearing gunshots.

The attempted vote followed the resignation of Abdullah al-Thinni, who stepped down as prime minister earlier this month after he and his family were targeted by militiamen.

Libya has been plagued by instability since armed groups toppled Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011.

Earlier reports that several people had been wounded in the attack on Tuesday are unconfirmed.

The BBC's Rana Jawad in Tripoli says Libya's national congress has been stormed on dozens of occasions by gunmen over the past year and a half.

what a fucking moron, wasting his life, flushing it all down the drain.

Those people can go straight to hell. fuck them and the train of idiocy they ride around on.

FOR those not watching it: the recap is that now they have poof that obama made the video and uploaded it after the attack. because that makes a real big difference doesn't it?

BECAUSE EVERYONE KNOWS, the attacked is responsible for the actions of the attacker. :eeyaa

I'm guessing his career as a "youth pastor" didn't work out, so now this.

yes, he's now addressing his video's to the "CEO" of youtube.
he's clearly a wannabe manipulative little cult leader. People, stop following shitbirds like this.

Top 10 Attacks on US Embassies in Republican Administrations that Lindsey Graham doesn’t Care about
By Juan Cole | May. 2, 2014 |

(By Juan Cole)
The Republicans in Congress keep beating the dead horse of Benghazi. Now they have sprung a briefing memo for Susan Rice, based on CIA talking points. I shows that the briefing hewed to the CIA line of the time, which was that the Benghazi disturbances were copy cats of those in Cairo, all provoked by a Coptic-Republican Islamophobic network that put a phony film on the internet attacking the Prophet Muhammad and underlining that it was made in America. (The CIA version actually has things to recommend it, and an NYT investigation found that it was local groups, not al-Qaeda, behind the Benghazi consulate attack.) The briefing memo is what one would expect and isn’t scandalous. That the Obama administration hadn’t released it earlier is perhaps disappointing. But then, we’ve never gotten to see the Bush era memos on how they planned to do briefings on the lack of WMD in Iraq, or about the Abu Ghraib torture scandal.
Senator Lindsey Graham called the Obama Democrats “scumbags” for not releasing the briefing memo earlier. But he’s never demanded the Bush administration memos on its extensive failures in Iraq and Afghanistan.
It continues to be worthwhile underlining, moreover, that far more embassy attacks occurred under Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush than have under Obama, and that Republican in Congress never investigated Reagan or Bush for their failures. To wit:
1. The US embassy in Athens, Greece, was attacked in 2007.
2. The US embassy in Serbia was burned down early in 2008?
3. The US embassy in Sanaa, Yemen, were attacked in September 2008
4. A suicide bombing at the US consulate in Karachi, Pakistan, in 2006 killed a US diplomat.
5. In 2006, a car bomb was set off outside the US embassy in Damascus.
6. Assailants set off bombs outside the US embassy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in 2004, at a time when the Uzbek government was allied with Bush in the ‘war on terror’ and was trying 15 persons it accused of al-Qaeda ties. Bush should have known.
7. The US consulate in Jiddah, Saudi Arabia, was attacked in 2004.
8. Anti-American Iraqis were regularly shelling the Green Zone in Baghdad where the US embassy is, in 2008.
9. In April 1983, radical Shiite suicide bombers blew up the US embassy in Beirut, killing 63. Reagan did nothing to prevent this attack, and his ultimate response to it and a later deadly attack on US Marines in Beirut was to quietly withdraw from Lebanon (he called it “redeploying offshore”). Democrats at the time controlled Congress but they didn’t have endless hearings on how Reagan failed our diplomats by not being prepared, not about whether it was wise for Reagan to shell Lebanese villages from the sea and kill 1,000 people.
10. The American embassy in Kuwait was attacked under Reagan in 1983 by radical members of the Da`wa (Islamic Mission) Party. George W. Bush later presided over the election of one of the bombers to the Iraqi parliament. The Da`wa Party, which has since given up terrorism and become a democratic party, has ruled Iraq since 2005, courtesy of Bush.
