"HOLLYWOOD AND CIA" - Stealth RI Panel, Left Forum 2013, NYC

The controversy over the CIA’s production help for “Zero Dark Thirty,” with its apology for torture, was followed by an Academy Award for Best Picture for the CIA fable, “Argo.” Michelle Obama presented the Oscar from the White House. Are these just the latest products of Hollywood’s love affair with the US national security state? Or are we witnessing a new convergence driven by geopolitical realities?
Join philosopher Bryan Sacks and author Nicholas Levis for a presentation on “Hollywood and CIA,” with Rutgers Media Studies Professor Deepa Kumar as discussant, at the Left Forum 2013 in New York City:

The premise of "a new convergence driven by geopolitical realities?" is non-promising, in terms of the historical context and perspective of the participants.

Actually, Ed Rampell's article in Counterpunch this month should take care of all my concerns. I was just (very) wary of how the conversation was framed, but that's just some intern vomiting out copy for a whole conference of events they know nothing about, right?
I'd whip something up but I am not even in that building these days, it'd take me awhile to change track and...I'm not going to.

Some intern is me. With 650 panels or so, everyone has to front their own.

Nope, it's a normal year at the Left Forum... which has been growing, certainly!
Copy is intended to tease & not commit too much thesis in advance. Anyway, doubtless we're in a new phase. Not a fundamental transformation but quite a bit of coming out party since the new administration. The empire-entertainment relationship has not been this open or affirmative ever, I don't think. Not since WW2, anyway.
