Two of them are wearing jeans there though. It appears to not be a hard fast rule. They're just guys who decided to be contrary or their stupid cammo was still stuck at the cleaners which they would pick up after work.

EDIT: Also sneakers.

I was waiting for a more mainstream source for this, and I'm not totally sure it belongs in this thread, but it should be part of the RI evidence base:

NEWS Leaked Documents Reveal Dothan Police Department Planted Drugs on Young Black Men For Years, District Attorney Doug Valeska Complicit

HUNDREDS OF CASES PROSECUTED WITH PLANTED EVIDENCE, MANY WRONGLY CONVICTED STILL IN PRISON

The Alabama Justice Project has obtained documents that reveal a Dothan Police Department’s Internal Affairs investigation was covered up by the district attorney. A group of up to a dozen police officers on a specialized narcotics team were found to have planted drugs and weapons on young black men for years. They were supervised at the time by Lt. Steve Parrish, current Dothan Police Chief, and Sgt. Andy Hughes, current Asst. Director of Homeland Security for the State of Alabama. All of the officers reportedly were members of a Neoconfederate organization that the Southern Poverty Law Center labels “racial extremists.” The group has advocated for blacks to “return” to Africa, published that the civil rights movement is really a Jewish conspiracy, and that blacks have lower IQ’s . Both Parrish and Hughes held leadership positions in the group and are pictured above holding a confederate battle flag at one of the club’s secret meetings.

The documents shared reveal that the internal affairs investigation was covered up to protect the aforementioned officers’ law enforcement careers and keep them from being criminally prosecuted.

Several long term Dothan law enforcement officers, all part of an original group that initiated the investigation, believe the public has a right to know that the Dothan Police Department, and District Attorney Doug Valeska, targeted young black men by planting drugs and weapons on them over a decade. Most of the young men were prosecuted, many sentenced to prison, and some are still in prison. Many of the officers involved were subsequently promoted and are in leadership positions in law enforcement. They hope the mood of the country is one that demands action and that the US Department of Justice will intervene.

At the rate these folks are killing and maiming people I just don't know anymore...

Chicago PD Release 3rd Horrific Video in Days – College Grad Tasered & Beaten Until he Dies

By Matt Agorist on December 8, 2015

Chicago, IL — It seems that the Chicago Police department is holding confession as the third video in just days has been released showing officers beat and taser a man before he dies.

Only two weeks ago, after months of public pressure, the Chicago PD released the dashcam of Laquan McDonald being murdered by officer Jason Van Dyke. Then, only yesterday, Chicago police quietly slipped out another video of officer George Hernandez murdering Ronald Johnson, by shooting him in the back as he ran away.

The latest video to be released is from an incident in the Far South Side police lockup and shows officers repeatedly tasering University of Chicago graduate Philip Coleman and then dragging his limp body from the cell.

Coleman was not a criminal, but he was experiencing an apparent mental crisis when he began to attack his mother in December of 2012. When police arrested him, Coleman was brought to a hospital where he was given a drug to make him calm down.

According to officials, Coleman’s death was the result of his reaction to that antipsychotic drug, which certainly can kill people. However, an autopsy showed that Coleman experienced ‘severe trauma’ while in custody. His body was covered in bruises and cuts, from the top of his head to his lower legs and there is video showing him being repeatedly tasered.

As the video begins, it shows that the drug was actually working when police came into Coleman’s cell and began their assault. He was merely laying on the bed when the first taser hit. Moments later, his lifeless body is being dragged down the hallway like an animal.

“I do not see how the manner in which Mr. Coleman was physically treated could possibly be acceptable,” Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in statement Monday night, as he now pretends to care about police brutality in Chicago.

Emanuel then reiterated that there was no possible way that he died as a result of his brutal beating and being repeatedly tasered, but made sure to make himself look good for his critics. “While the Medical Examiner ruled that Mr. Coleman died accidentally as a result of treatment he received in the hospital, it does not excuse the way he was treated when he was in custody. Something is wrong here — either the actions of the officers who dragged Mr. Coleman, or the policies of the department.”

Indeed, Mr. Emanuel knew about the tragic death of Colemen when it initially happened on Dec. 12, 2012, as he had already been mayor for over 6 months. How is it that all of the sudden, Rahm Emanuel is experiencing a crisis of consciousness now, and cares about the victims of his attack dogs?

It is important to remember that this Chicago mayor allowed the video of the Laquan McDonald killing to remain in the hands of the police for over a year, while quietly offering $5 million to the victim’s family.

The chances are that a mayor, who has been presiding over a city with a secret prison, at which people were illegally held captive, sodomized, tortured, and even killed, caring about the life of a college grad who died under his watch are slim to none. This abrupt rush to show humanity is only an act to cover his own rear end because the American citizens are up in arms over police killings.

Either way, the release of yet another video highlights the department’s ability to hide things from the public until long after they decide not to hold themselves accountable.

'Sick of being targeted': French authorities conducting warrantless raids on Muslims

Published time: 9 Dec, 2015
© Christian Hartmann / Reuters

Emergency legislation enacted after last month's Paris attacks has led to a fierce crackdown on France's Islamic population. Warrantless searches and raids have become commonplace, a move which many say violates the civil liberties of Muslims.

Speaking to RT's Daniel Bushell, the manager of the Pepper Grill restaurant on the outskirts of Paris recalled a police raid at his restaurant on Saturday night.

“They blocked the roads with trucks, and up to 40 armed men stormed our restaurant...Saturday night's the busiest time. Children were eating. The cops had shotguns, black masks, and shields, making the women tremble with fear. Several officers rushed downstairs, then suddenly...they began breaking the doors with battering rams. The door wasn't even locked,” the restaurant manager said.

After police failed to find any weapons during the search, they raided so-called “undeclared prayer rooms” above the restaurant. However, legal experts told RT that it is unlikely that such rooms are illegal, even under the country's new emergency legislation.

The emergency laws, implemented after last month's terror attacks which killed 130 people and left 352 others injured, have led to thousands of warrantless searches and raids.

But it's not just private property that is being targeted – Muslims are also being singled out on the street.

“Police tried to pull the hood off the head of an Arab friend eating with my little brother. Then they detained him, saying it's a state of emergency so they have the right,” a local told RT on condition of anonymity, fearing police reprisals. He added that the community is “sick of being targeted.”

Such targeting is reportedly worse for young people, many of whom said they pull hoods over their faces as soon as they see a police car, so officers can't see the color of their skin.

That fear is a direct result of the war being waged against the Muslim community, according to Yasser Louati of the Collective Against Islamophobia in France. He recalled a situation where a mother was “touched in her private parts by police,” and another mother who “lost her baby after a raid.”

However, one French mayor is not backing down, believing that extra security is necessary because France is “living amid an Islamic threat.”

“I've already doubled the number of city policemen, but I went even further. I asked all the former policemen, firefighters and servicemen to come and help to protect our citizens. If my initiative goes against the law, we should change the law. We are living amid an Islamic threat and we should be aware of the consequences. Our country, as well as other European countries, is at war – both outside our borders, in Syria for instance, and inside our borders, because our enemies live in our own country,” Robert Menard, mayor of the French town of Beziers, told RT.

In addition to warrantless searches and raids, France's state of emergency laws allow the government to put people under house arrest, seal the country's borders and ban demonstrations. The laws were created during the Algerian war in 1955.

France is currently aiming to change its constitution to allow a state of emergency to last for six months, according to government sources. The proposal, which has been slammed by many who say the government is abusing its powers, will be put to ministers on December 23, according to AFP.

Ex-Cop Daniel Holtzclaw Found Guilty on 18 of 36 Charges of Raping, Assaulting 13 Women

Ex-Cop Daniel Holtzclaw Found Guilty on 18 of 36 Charges of Raping, Assaulting 13 Women

After deliberating for more than 45 hours over four days, an Oklahoma City jury has found ex-police officer Daniel Holtzclaw guilty on 18 of the 36 charges he faced for assaulting at least 13 black women.

For each of the 36 counts, the jurors, who were all white, were tasked with both determining the verdict and, in the case of a guilty verdict, recommending a sentence. They recommended 263 years.

Holtzclaw was found guilty of six counts of sexual battery, three counts of lewd exhibition, four counts of forcible oral sodomy, four counts of rape in the first degree, and one count of rape in the second degree.

Holtzclaw’s attorney argued that his victims weren’t credible, suggesting that the women (several of whom had previous drug and prostitution offenses) were less “perfect victims” and more “perfect accusers.”

The prosecution, meanwhile, argued that he’d used his badge to specifically exploit vulnerable women, including those who didn’t think they’d be believed because of their records.

Today is Daniel Holtzclaw’s 29th birthday. His charges, via the New York Daily News, included “first-degree rape, sexual battery, indecent exposure, stalking, forcible oral sodomy and burglary. He also faced second-degree rape by instrumentation and sexual battery charges.”

On the live stream from the courtroom, Holtzclaw shifted his weight back and forth nervously as the assembled waited for Judge Timothy Henderson to enter. As the verdict was read, Holtzclaw, then seated, rocked back and forth, openly sobbing. He continued to cry as he approached the bench.

All 13 women Holtzclaw was charged with assaulting testified in the trial. Their brutal, brave testimonies were reported in full on Buzzfeed. We’ll update this post as more information is made available.

Update:

According to Tom George, a Fox reporter who’s been covering the trial, sentencing will be January 21st.

Slain autistic boy's family speaks out on marshals' indictment

MARKSVILLE, La. -- A grandmother wept to hear a judge read the indictments of two deputy city marshals on second-degree murder charges for the fatal shooting of her 6-year-old autistic grandson in a small Louisiana town.

Hours before an Avoyelles Parish grand jury handed up the indictments Thursday, Cathy Mardis called for authorities to release video from a police body camera of the encounter that killed her grandson, Jeremy Mardis, and severely wounded his father, Christopher Few.

After the judge who read the indictments lifted a gag order in the case, Louisiana Attorney General James "Buddy" Caldwell's office released a court filing that provides investigators' first description of the video's contents.

A police officer who witnessed the two city marshals, Derrick Stafford and Norris Greenhouse Jr., open fire on Few and his son told investigators he didn't fire his own weapon because "he didn't fear for his life," according to the filing.

The document also said Marksville Police Sgt. Kenneth Parnell III's body camera shows that Few's empty hands are raised and visible inside the vehicle "when gunfire becomes audible." Few was critically wounded by two gunshots, while Jeremy received five gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Stafford, a full-time police lieutenant, and Greenhouse, a former police officer, were moonlighting as deputy city marshals in Marksville on the night of Nov. 3 when they fired at least 18 rounds at Few's car. The court filing released Thursday doesn't explain why Greenhouse began pursuing the vehicle before Stafford and another deputy marshal joined in the pursuit of the fleeing vehicle.

Stafford and Greenhouse were arrested on second-degree murder charges last month but not formally charged until Thursday. The indictment charged Stafford, 32, of Mansura, and Greenhouse, 23, of Marksville, with one count each of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

"The body camera video is approximately 13 minutes and 47 seconds long. At approximately 26 seconds into the video, the driver, Christopher Few's empty hands are raised and visible when gunfire becomes audible," the document states.

Caldwell vowed Thursday to "continue (a) detailed and thorough investigation as we prepare for trial."

Few shook hands with one of his attorneys after state District Judge William Bennett read the indictment aloud in court. Few's mother consoled Cathy Mardis during the brief court proceedings.

"We don't get Jeremy back, but we got what we wanted today," she said.

Earlier, she spoke to the news media outside the courthouse, describing the pain the shooting had inflicted on the family.

"It's been pure hell. I can't explain what it's like to bury your 6-year-old grandchild," said Mardis, 46, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Although Bennett lifted a gag order on people involved in the case, prosecutors declined to disclose any additional details about the incident. Defense attorneys said prosecutors haven't turned over any evidence for them to review yet.

George Higgins III, an attorney for Greenhouse, said, "We've yet to see any evidence for ourselves. I just know there's a lot more to this story than what has been talked about."

Jonathan Goins, a lawyer for Stafford, declined to describe his client's account of the incident, but said evidence will show he "acted in a very lawful way."

State Police Col. Mike Edmonson cited the video when he announced the arrest of the two officers, calling it the most disturbing thing he's seen. But he gave no indication of what's on the video.

Last month, an attorney for Few told The Associated Press that video from another officer's body camera showed Few had his hands up inside the vehicle and didn't pose a threat when the officers opened fire. The judge hearing the case then swiftly imposed a gag order, keeping those involved from speaking to the news media.

Cathy Mardis said she has not seen the tape and can only imagine what is on there but added: "I thank God the tape is there."

"I want justice for Jeremy. I want justice for Chris," she said. She said the family had an open casket funeral for her grandson even though there were signs of trauma on his body.

She quoted the funeral director as saying, "Don't touch his head. It might fall back apart."

The grandmother wore a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles T-shirt, in honor of her grandson, who loved the characters. Standing by her side outside the courthouse was Samantha Few, the mother of Christopher Few.

Cathy Mardis spoke lovingly of her grandson. He was autistic and non-verbal but very bright, she said.

"He was the most loving child you could have met. He was always smiling and happy. He taught himself to read at 3 years old just from watching YouTube," she said. Jeremy has a younger sister who still cannot understand what happened, the grandmother said.

"She's still asking to see her brother every day," she said.

Fox Lake Suspends Detective, Two Officers In Wake Of Detainee Beating
December 10, 2015 10:03 PM
Filed Under: FOI, Fox Lake, jail, Joe Gliniewicz, VIDEO

(CBS) — One Fox Lake Police Department detective and two officers have been suspended, and a third officer is under investigation over a brutality investigation, CBS 2 has learned.

The disciplinary actions stem from the alleged beating of an arrestee in December 2014. Some have said there had been a cover-up of the incident.

The beating was caught on camera. The video was expected to be released Friday.

Fox Lake has been in the news recently for the September suicide of police Lt. Charles “G.I. Joe” Gliniewicz, who staged his death to appear like murder. Gliniewicz had been stealing money from a youth program, authorities say.

Sadistic Cops Make K-9 Maul Unarmed Suicidal Teen – Caught Planning and Celebrating It in Texts
Florida police department has a pattern of commanding K-9 dogs to attack people without provocation.
By Justin Gardner / The Free Thought Project December 29, 2015

North Port, FL — Months after the Herald-Tribune exposed the North Port Police Department for routinely commanding their K-9 dogs to attack people without provocation, the department has done nothing to address the problem. In fact, it defends its officers even in the most egregious cases, including the mutilation of unarmed juveniles.

There is clearly a culture within the North Port PD that encourages and applauds this cowardly form of brutality, as revealed by messages sent between K-9 handlers involving the case of 18-year-old Jared Lemay.

Lemay’s mother had called the North Port PD when she learned that her son was apparently about to commit suicide. Keith Bush, the leader of their K-9 unit, responded to the scene, but not before telling a fellow K-9 handler to come join in the fun:

“On this day, before he or any other officer reached Jared Lemay’s home, Bush sent a message to fellow K-9 handler Michael Dietz: “COME GET UR BITE.”

Minutes later, records show, Bush messaged Dietz again: “IM GONNA TAKE UR BITE IF U DONT HURRY UP.”

Lemay, who was found unarmed and hiding in a trash can in his garage, was bitten in the face and back by Dietz’s dog, a Belgian Malinois named Cammo.”

After he was taken to the emergency room, another cop, William Carter, messaged Dietz “CONGRATS,” commending him for his dog’s first bite.

Another dialogue between Officers Bush and Brandon McHale further reveals the culture of brutality.

“YOUR BITE OR (Dietz’s)?” McHale inquired.

“I LET (Dietz) HAVE IT,” Bush replied.

“NICE, HOW BAD?” McHale asked.

“BAD,” Bush wrote. “FACE AND BACK.”

“SKIN GRAFT BAD?” McHale asked.

“NO,” Bush wrote.

“COULDA BEEN WORSE THEN, HE SHOULD HAVE COMPLIED,” McHale said, ending the conversation.”

According to Lemay, who was hiding in a trash can after contemplating suicide, the cops entered the garage, peeked inside the trash can and closed the lid, and then pushed it over and sicced the dog on Lemay before he could do or say anything. The Belgian Malinois latched onto Lemay’s face and dragged him from the trash can, and then bit him on the back before an officer stopped the attack.

As a result of this barbaric attack, Lemay could not eat for a week and is permanently scarred.

This premeditated attack on an unarmed, suicidal juvenile was approved by North Port police supervisors, and no investigation was done on the attack or the messages sent through the police cruisers’ mobile messaging system.

The Herald-Tribune found that “North Port’s K-9 handlers commanded their police dogs to attack more people from 2010 through 2014 than did the police K-9 handlers of neighboring municipalities Sarasota, Bradenton, Palmetto, Venice and Punta Gorda during the same period – combined.

Close to 37 percent of apprehensions made by the K-9 unit ended with a dog attack, which was higher than a 30 percent threshold that many American law enforcement agencies use to monitor their K-9 units’ performance for potential misconduct.”

In response to the paper’s investigation, the North Port PD quickly whipped up a “memorandum of counseling” (the least severe form of discipline) and gave it to Officer Bush, two years after the attack. It said Bush’s messages via the mobile digital terminal were “unprofessional,” but said the attack on Lemay was “found to be within policy.”

The department is unabashed in defending its K-9 culture of commanding their dogs to attack unarmed, defenseless citizens, saying:

“We have reviewed all current legal authority and have found our K-9 handlers and the animals which we rely on to keep our community safe, to have acted in accordance within the law and in keeping with best practices.”

Officer Bush, the North Port PD’s senior K-9 handler, has racked up what would be considered by his colleagues an admirable count of 25 dog bites since the start of 2012. Three civil rights lawsuits have been filed in federal court against the department, two involving Bush and his K-9. Lemay intends to file his own suit.

Charles Mesloh, a former K-9 handler for the Venice Police Department, called Bush’s messages to Dietz “horrifying” and said a serious investigation is warranted.

“This is people deciding in advance deciding how they’re going to hurt someone,” said Mesloh. “In my opinion it should be investigated by the Department of Justice. I have defended agencies accused of civil rights violations in the past, and I have never seen anything that has approached what I have seen in this report.”

Govt Pays Millions in Reparations to 57 Victims of Worst Cop in History – Who Still Receives a Pension
Former Chicago Police Commander received 13 commendations before his termination for torturing over 200 citizens.

Chicago, IL — Responsible for torturing more than 200 people to obtain false confessions, former Chicago Police Commander Jon Burge has cost the city and Cook County over $100 million in legal fees and settlements. On Monday, the city of Chicago paid out $5.5 million in reparations to 57 of Burge’s victims, while the corrupt former police commander continues to receive his $4,000 monthly pension from the city.

Between 1972 and 1991, Chicago Police Commander Jon Burge and his men tortured hundreds of people to extract forced confessions from them. Up to 200 torture victims have accused Burge of using cattle prods on their genitals, plastic bags to cause suffocation, phone books to strike their heads, burning them on radiators, and forcing guns into their mouths during interrogations. Suspended from the department in 1991, Burge was fired two years later after the Police Department Review Board ruled that he had tortured hundreds of people.

In 1973, Burge and his men arrested Anthony Holmes before torturing him at the police station. After hooking him up to an electrical box and placing a bag over his head, the officers repeatedly electrocuted Holmes until forcing a false homicide confession from him. Holmes spent 30 years in prison for a murder that he did not commit because Burge tortured a confession out of him instead of tracking down the real killer.

Due to the fact that the Cook County District Attorney’s Office and the Chicago Police Department both turned a blind eye to Burge’s human rights violations, the statute of limitations allowed him to get away with torturing 200 people. During his two decades on the force, Burge received 13 commendations and a letter of praise from the Department of Justice before his termination.

In October 2008, the Justice Department finally charged Burge with two counts of obstruction of justice and one count of perjury. Because U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald could not charge him with 20 years of torture, Burge was eventually convicted of providing false statements in a civil lawsuit alleging his use of torture. Although he was sentenced to four and a half years in federal prison, Burge continues to collect his $4,000 monthly pension from the city.

Last spring, the City Council agreed to make Chicago the nation’s first major city to pay reparations 44 years after the first known instance of torture committed by Burge and his men. After Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced the creation of a $5.5 million city fund for Burge’s victims, the former police commander condemned the decision by stating, “I find it hard to believe that the city’s political leadership could even contemplate giving `Reparations’ to human vermin.”

On Monday, 57 of Burge’s torture victims each received $100,000 from the city of Chicago. Since a few victims had already received previous settlements, those amounts were deducted from their shares. Family members of deceased Burge victims were ineligible for financial reparations but were still eligible for non-financial reparations, including prioritized access to senior care services, health services, job training, small business assistance, and specialized counseling services.

Besides formally apologizing and paying the reparations, the city has also agreed to begin teaching students about Burge’s legacy of corruption in Chicago’s public schools. Beginning this school year, eighth- and tenth-grade students will examine Burge’s crimes in U.S. History in regards to police brutality and the violation of constitutional rights.

Instead of showing an ounce of competence, Burge and his officers forced confessions out of innocent people resulting in numerous overturned convictions. Although he failed to protect the streets of Chicago, Burge did inadvertently cause many police departments to adopt the policy of mandated video interrogations. Although most government employees are not required to wear cameras and record their actions, cops have proven over and over again that they simply cannot be trusted.

Arizona Senator John Kavanagh Wants to Make it Illegal to Record Cops, Including Personal Interactions - PINAC News

Oblivious to the backlash that left a Texas politician looking like an unconstitutional buffoon last year, an Arizona senator is proposing to make it illegal to record cops from within 20 feet. John Kavanagh, a republican who is also a retired cop, said such a law is necessary for officer safety. He said he does not see a problem that such a law would make it illegal for citizens to record their own interactions with police, stressing that citizens do not have that right, despite the numerous court rulings that disagree.
