THE PSEUDO-SACRIFICIAL "SLUTTING" OF HANNAH MONTANA

By now, you've all probably heard about the controversy surrounding Miley Cyrus' performance of her already controversial single, "We Can't Stop", at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. Also controversial was the video for the single, which was expertly dissected by CollegeHumor.com in their excellent music-free version. So I suppose Sunday's VMA performance means that Cyrus has scored a controversy hat-trick, triple play or trifecta, depending on your choice of sports analogies.
For all of you not living in the USA, which means you're currently unable to access the performance due to MTV.com's anal-retentive region blocking policies, here is a Youtube version that at least lets you see what all the fuss is about. I don't know how long it will be up, though, as others have been removed already tonight:

Argh and sigh. That is perhaps one of the most disturbing bits of film I have ever seen. Almost as if it meant to call us out. Sometimes I wish Hugh could be reinstated.
They literally gave the go ahead on that? I don't give a fuck about the sexuality or whatever the fuck that was. We live in twisted times. Very twisted times. I will indeed add more later but I am sleepy. Does anybody get yet why I hate "porn"? Love and sex are great, but this shit is out of hand and utterly disturbing.
Nice post on your site, Jerky. I will send it around.

All I know, since I don't have tv, is that my homegirl Grimes co hosted the red carpet...#1 band in the world One Direction wore a Joy Division shirt..and more shitty mainstream pop music got celebrated on a channel that doesnt even really do music videos anymore despite still using the MTV acronym. And we're heading toward yet another spurious claim war...but none of that matters cuz BEN AFFLECK IS BATMAN!

Thankfully, MTV graciously panned to the audience to gauge and capture their reactions. Singlehandedly, the best GIF to come out of the Can't Stop/Blurred Lines mashup was this gem of a shot of Will Smith, his wife, Jada, and children, Willow and Jaden. Oh. My. Gawd.

This is so weird I'm almost lost for words. Is she drugged? Is she controlled somehow? I admit that I'm personally stepping into unchartered waters that I know little about, but it struck me as creeping advocation of pedophilia. Is that an over-the-top perception? Beyond the ritualistic content which I sense on a deep level without fully understanding, it looks to me that the act of 'shocking' somehow reinforces the sub-message, whilst retaining the facade of her doing it 'just to get some more limelight'. I see similarities to Madonna's career path, except the nature of the 'shock' needs to be ever greater to combat inevitable shock fatigue. What next? Actual masturbation on stage?

Even what with my whole lifetime of insensitivity training, I strongly resist being exposed to such imagery.
So thanks Viacom for invoking your copyright privileges.
dodger, you may be right about the pedo advert aspect, and at least it can be said that TPTMB desire that the common folk have no respect for the consequences of their actions.
hmmm, an excellent subliminal boost for all the assholes that are shilling to start WW iv. Go figure.

No occult meaning, no deeper subtext, nothing at all: a vacuum. The sole goal was being in the news & social media cycle today. Mission accomplished, cheap shock value keeps MTV relevant yet again. Cue media buys. Cue meaningless commentary. Cue token outrage.
They'll keep doing it until we stop participating in it.
Spoiler Alert: We will not stop participating.

Actually, I imagine most of us hadn't, until you brought it to our attention.
Yawn.

^^FWIW, this was the first I had "heard" of this, too.
Since I stopped reading Vigilant Citizen, I feel so much less informed.

What's the over/under? Are we more or less than five years away from live on-stage snuff films at the VMAs?

Fuddie duddies. It's a marketing formula, tried and true, designed to push revenues towards the billion dollar range, and with the right talent, it works. Pros like Pharrell Williams and Diane Martel don't leave much to chance in this regard.

You can yawn all you want, but this an act that should provoke much consternation. It would have been brought to your attention soon enough, Jerky just was the first one to do so for you.
And yes, Wombat, some of the staff at EC see total ritual going on in that and are disturbed we couldn't get there in time to save entities. You ever seen a kid watch TV and how engaged they get? You ever seen a kid emulate what they see in their own lives much of it emanating from a fucking screen? We don't need this shit in the Existosphere in the interest of the billions of entities that are born innocent. Love should be first and foremost.
Take away was that it was ritual and meant to go viral. And there's my train, right on time.

Sure it "works", bro, but there is a bigger picture here. It is the debauched sexualization of humans in a way "they" want us to view it because they want us all to believe we are trash but with lights and lasers. Yeah, billions will be made, children will be hurt and we'll all be better off by discarding the importance of how evil this all is.
Because we will find this acceptable.
