Portugal's Elite Pedo Network Illustrates Tip of the Iceberg

I had forgotten this case, but this is a doozie. While the Franklin coverup never got to see the light of day as far as justice or public opinion...and while the entire country of Belgium almost erupted into revolution
over allegations of a murderous elite pedo death ring in the 90's...in Portugal a few years ago, justice finally did come. And while not all the high level clients were exposed or brought to justice,
it's a landmark case that strangely did not get any mainstream coverage in the US and curiously not much discussion on conspiracy sites. But here it is...

Guilty after six-year trial, Portugal's high-society paedophile ring

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world ... 70112.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casa_Pia_c ... se_scandal

High ranking politicians, ambassadors, lawyers, biologists, corporate business men, famous tv celebrities, etc were all exposed as having been involved in a sadistic secret network that
raped hundreds of children(some disabled) in orphanages for over two decades. It began when one child came forward in 2002, and by 2010 justice had been served in a court of law. Sadly, the sentences were only 5-18 years.
But of some of those proven guilty was "the most famous tv personality in Portugal", former Unesco ambassador, former governor, etc.

When people say "Oh stuff like in True Detective isnt real", "franklin and dutroux were proven false", "there's no such thing as elite pedo rings", all you gotta do is look at the Portugal case from the 2000's. And geez, Chile seems to have an insane problem with school kids being sexually abused by authorities: http://www.aljazeera.com/news/americas/ ... 51608.html

Thank you, yes. I gained a new appreciation for the concept of the "Memory Hole" when I discovered this late last year in the course of Savile research. This is one of those stories where the lack of coverage speaks disturbing volumes, like the prostitution ring involved with Watergate -- after all, isn't this precisely the kind of salacious shit that mass media would be all over?

The Vatican has much to answer for, but their centuries of enabling these groups is surely their foremost crime against humanity.

Much of the following is via this BBC piece, so caveat lector, as ever.

Carlos Cruz - Wiki - "currently free pending appeals." He is married with two children. Per BBC, "According to the court, he paid for sex with one 14-year-old boy, and abused at least one other."

Carlos Silvino - Per BBC, Carlos Silvino, known as Bibi, is a 54-year-old former driver and a former pupil at the Casa Pia. He is the only defendant who has confessed to some of the crimes at the children's home. He also incriminated other defendants. Before the case was made public, other teachers at the school tried to have Silvino removed from Casa Pia after accusations he had raped a young girl at another institution before his transfer, the New York Times reported in 2003. Silvino was originally brought to work at the school in 1974. Other teachers said within weeks of his arrival there were accusations he had raped boys in Casa Pia's Lisbon campus.

Hugo Marçal - Lawyer, sentenced to six years but information on him is relatively sparse.

Manuel Abrantes - Per BBC, "Manuel Abrantes is the former ombudsman and deputy director of the Casa Pia school in Lisbon. He was accused of 51 cases of abuse, providing children for sex, and embezzlement. He was convicted of 16 cases of abuse. At the trial Abrantes told the court he did not believe there was a "cabal" of abusers at work in the institution, but that some "very strange things" had happened, which had been carried out by "strangers".

Ferreira Diniz - Per BBC, Joao Ferreira Diniz worked as a doctor for the school. He helped select the children - usually children who were deaf and unable to speak - who would be sold for sex. He checked them for sexually transmitted diseases and helped Silvino take them to the clients, it has been reported. He would drive his red Ferrari to Casa Pia football matches where he also singled out boys to abuse.

Jorge Ritto - Per BBC, Jorge Ritto, 73, is a decorated Portuguese career diplomat. He was also an ambassador to the UN cultural organisation Unesco in Paris, retiring in 2002. However, it is reported that in 1970 Ritto was sent home from a posting in Germany after an incident involving a young boy in a public park. It has also been reported that in 1982 three children, missing from the Casa Pia, were discovered in an apartment he used.

I remember hearing about a Brazillian abuse ring that came to light around this same time. Anyone remember that one? Right now my google-fu is failing me.

September 11, 2003, BRASILIA, BRAZIL, Cesio Brandao aka Cesi Favio Caldas aka Sergio Brandao, Sentenced for Murder and Attempted Murder

Overview: News articles report that five influential members of Brazilian society went on trial in 2003 for the torture, castration, and murder of five children, aged eight to 13, whose sexual organs had been removed and used in rites of black magic between 1989 and 1993. Amailton Madeira Gomes, son of a businessman, Carlos Alberto Santos, policeman, and two doctors, Anisio Ferreira de Souza, and Cesio Brandao, aka Cesi Favio aka Sergio Brandao were charged with the crimes. The fifth defendant, 75-year-old Valentina Andrade, a fortune teller and leader of a UFO group called the Superior Universal Alignment, was tried for these crimes but was not convicted.

The five defendants, including Valentina Andrade, allegedly used their influence in efforts to stop the case from going to trial, intimidated victims, and destroyed evidence. The prosecution asked for the trial to be moved to another locale, Para State.

A total of 19 boys, aged eight to 14, were victimized. Five were mutilated and died, three escaped with horrible injuries, six escaped before they were harmed, and five have never been seen again. Some victims had their eyes gouged out, wrists slit, and sexual organs cut off. The two doctors were accused of selling the internal organs of the children and using their genitals in satanic rituals.

Two mutilated survivors, now adults, escaped from Brazil’s Amazon region where they had been tied to trees after being doped and castrated. They both identified Carlos Alberto Santos as the man who kidnapped them when they were nine and 10 years old.

Brazil’s Special Secretary for Human Rights said the trial had symbolic significance because of the influential professions of the defendants. The trial was seen as a test of Brazil’s ability to bring justice to isolated areas where it was suspected the legal system might be under the sway of powerful locals.

Carlos Albert Santos was sentenced to 35 years, Amailton Gomes was sentenced to 57 years, Anisio Ferreira de Souza was sentenced to 77 years, Cesio Brandao was sentenced to 56 years. See “Trial Opens on Ritualistic Murders of Brazilian Children,” Agence France Presse, August 29, 2003; “Two Sentenced in Mutilation Murder Case in Brazil,” Associated Press, August 30, 2003; “Satanic Sect Leader Denies Charges She tortured, Murdered Children in Brazil,” Agence France Presse, November 19, 2003. Also:

Harvesting organs from Brazil’s street kids – fact or fiction?

Many of the babies that were taken were very sick, or were very ethnically Afro-Brazilian, some of them had AIDS… People started questioning, why do they want these babies? …maybe it can be seen as a sort of inchoate testifying by illiterate people on the margins, who don’t have other discourses to fall back upon, but who recognize that their bodies are not safe under these regimes, where there’s torture, disappearances and so forth.

Nancy Scheper-Hughes, Organ Watch (University of California)

In 1994 Nancy Scheper-Hughes and Daniel Hoffman wrote an article about street kids that provided extensive information about the nations social attitude and treatment of children. Veja (1991), the magazine with the largest circulation in Brazil, reported that the public morgue in Recife received approximately 15 bodies of dead children and adolescents a month. People of color outnumbered white bodies 12 to 1, and boys outnumbered girls at a ratio of 7 to l. Damaged or mutilated bodies accounted for 80 percent of the cases. The article goes on to state that the local human rights organization GAJOP characterizes the routine assassinations of poor adolescents as an unofficial death penalty that is carried out “with chilling cruelty and without any chance of defense whatsoever.”

From 1964 to 1985 Brazil was governed under military rule. Disappearances, tortures and deaths of suspected “subversives” at the accused hands of civil and military police was rampant. During this period the underclass residing in the “favela” meaning “shantytown” were kept apart from Brazil’s social classes. With the collapse of military rule, people have become free to roam.

Since the emergence of democratization in 1982 Brazil’s security forces have not been transformed. Extraordinary power exerted to enforce apartheid-like codes of separation continues over impoverished populations. Those most at risk are Brazil’s children of impoverished and often single or abandoned women; largely Afro-Brazilian. In a book journalist Gilberto Dimenstein, entitled The Children’s War, the author explores middle class apathy. Regarded as thugs, hustlers, murderers and thieves; disappearances, murder by death squads, torture, police brutality, and harassment is commonplace and hardly challenged.

For a number of decades since the 1990s accounts of Brazilian child abductions and organ theft were regarded as urban legend.

Brazilian street children live in daily fear of the police, state children’s asylums, anonymous kidnappers, death squads, and (more fantastically) imagined child-and-organ stealers.

While popular story-lines regarding organ theft have not been proven, self proclaimed “militant anthropologist” Nancy Scheper-Hughes provides compelling evidence that, to the contrary, there is reason to acknowledge organ trafficking is a real phenomena. The premise of her argument lies in the culmination of variables including the vulnerability of marginalized and “invisible” people amongst the poorest in the world, the advancement of technology to support organ and human tissue transplants among “strangers”, unregulated and/or criminal agents that work as brokers, and the demand for body parts by wealthier peoples in America and Europe.

As explained in a Newsweek article published on 10 January 2009:

…international organ trafficking—mostly of kidneys, but also of half-livers, eyes, skin and blood—is flourishing; the World Health Organization estimates that one fifth of the 70,000 kidneys transplanted worldwide every year come from the black market.

Social attitudes about Brazil’s street children of shantytown origin and the history of human rights abuses against them, fit the description of those most vulnerable to traffickers – “threat to safety”, poor, invisible, abandoned, expendable.

Lydia Cacho

Lydia Cacho Ribeiro (born Mexico City, 12 April 1963[1]) is a Mexican journalist, feminist, and human rights activist. Described by Amnesty International as "perhaps Mexico’s most famous investigative journalist and women’s rights advocate", Cacho's reporting focuses on violence against and sexual abuse of women and children.[2]

In 2004, her book Los Demonios del Edén created a nationwide scandal by alleging that several prominent businessmen had conspired to protect a pedophilia ring. In 2006, a tape emerged of a conversation between businessman Kamel Nacif Borge and Mario Plutarco Marín Torres, governor of Puebla, in which they conspired to have Cacho beaten and raped for her reporting.

Los Demonios del Edén

In 2003, Cacho wrote articles on the sexual abuse of minors for the newspaper Por Esto including a note on a girl abused by a local hotel owner, Jean Succar Kuri.[4][5] Feeling that the local police had failed to act on the girl's complaint, the following year, Cacho published the book Los Demonios del Edén ("Demons of Eden") in which she accuses Kuri of being involved in a ring of child pornography and prostitution, based on official statements from his alleged victims and even a video of him (filmed with hidden camera). The book also mentions important politicians as Emilio Gamboa Patrón and Miguel Ángel Yunes as involved, and accuses Kamel Nacif Borge, a Puebla businessman, of protecting Succar Kuri.[3][4]

After the book's release, Cacho was arrested in Cancún by Puebla police and driven back to Puebla, 900 miles away.[3] Cacho has stated that the arresting officers verbally abused her and hinted there was a plan to rape her.[1] She was then imprisoned for a short time on defamation charges before being released on bail.[3]

On 14 February 2006, several telephone conversations between Nacif Borge and Mario Marín, governor of the state of Puebla, were revealed by the Mexico City daily La Jornada, creating a media frenzy. In these conversations, before Cacho's arrest, Marín and Nacif Borge discussed putting Cacho in jail as a favour, and having her beaten and abused while in jail to silence her.[6][7] The recording sparked widespread calls for Marín to be impeached.[3]

Cacho took the case of her arrest to the Supreme Court, becoming the first woman in Mexico's history to testify there.[2] On 29 November 2007, the Court ruled 6 to 4 that Marín had no case to answer in Cacho's arrest, jailing and harassment, a case that the New York Times described as "a setback for journalistic freedom in Mexico".[3] The United Nations Human Rights Council advised her to leave the country, recommended that she seek political asylum in another country, and offered her legal assistance and assistance in gaining access to international courts.[8] While being held, Cacho was granted the Premio Francisco Ojeda al Valor Periodístico (Francisco Ojeda Award for Journalistic Courage).[9]

In May 2008, a few days before she was scheduled to testify at Kuri's trial, Cacho was almost killed when the lugnuts on one of her car's wheels were loosened.[2]

Canada too. Note that the Picton farm was operating down the valley at the same time that Jack Cram and Renate Andres-Auger attempted to initiate legal action:

1. Since the spring of 1994, lawyers and journalists have named the Vancouver Club as a site where children are routinely trafficked, exploited sexually and possibly killed. These crimes were documented, including with photographic proof, by Vancouver trial lawyer Jack Cram and his assistant Renate Andres-Auger, during 1994. Both of these lawyers attempted to bring a lawsuit against two Supreme Court judges in Vancouver for their proven complicity in this alleged pedophile ring, in April of 1994. Both of them were disbarred, and Jack Cram was arrested, drugged and jailed, and the evidence he had on the Club and these judges was stolen.

2. Aboriginal children have been a prime target of the Vancouver Club pedophile ring, which involves senior judges, church lawyers, businessmen and politicians. To quote Jack Cram’s statement in the BC Supreme Court on April 26, 1994, “Indian children go into the Vancouver Club and are never seen again.” As recently as the summer of 2009, aboriginal children have been observed being taken against their will into the rear entrance of the Vancouver Club at 915 West Hastings street from the Squamish Indian reserve in North Vancouver, during the hours of 1 and 3 am.

3. An attempt by reporters with the Vancouver Province and the North Shore News to investigate these claims and the Cram evidence was stopped by a threatened lawsuit against these newspapers from the two Supreme Court judges named by Cram, during 1996 and 1997.

4. One of the predecessors to our ITCCS, the U.N.-affiliated IHRAAM Tribunal into Indian Residential Schools, obtained considerable evidence during its June, 1998 hearings in Vancouver concerning the Vancouver Club pedophile ring. This included eyewitness accounts from an employee at the Club and from a retired RCMP officer, who was discouraged by his superiors from investigating the Club, where the RCMP Superintendent is a member. When one of the IHRAAM investigators, Kevin Annett, publicly surfaced this evidence, he became immediately targeted by a COINTELPRO-type “dirty tricks” campaign by the RCMP and its aboriginal agents that continues to the present day.

4. A United Nations conference on child trafficking, held in Vancouver in September, 1999, confirmed in its summary report that Vancouver is one of three cities in the world where “organized child prostitution and trafficking operates with unofficial police and judicial protection … including at the elite Vancouver Club.”

Crap, I thought you were talking about the mother of all Mexican death cults

Sandra Jordan reports from Ciudad Juarez in Mexico, where one campaigner is battling the authorities to expose the powerful men she believes to have murdered 100 women

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2003/nov/02/mexico

Ciudad Juarez is known as 'the city of the dead girls'. In 10 years almost 400 women have been murdered in this city on the border between Mexico and El Paso, Texas, and the killings continue. Now a courageous Mexican-American journalist is alleging a group of six businessmen is behind the slaughter. Described as 'untouchables', their wealth puts them above the law. Their motive is said to be blood sport.

...

'Mexican federal authorities have conducted investigations, which reveal who the killers are,' she claims. 'Five men from Juarez and one from Tijuana who get together and kill women in what can only be described as blood sport. Some of those involved are prominent men with important political connections - untouchables.'

The chosen victims are so young, explains Washington, to avoid sexually transmitted diseases. Underlings supply new victims: 'They capture the girls and bring them to their masters.'

Washington alleges at least 100 women have been killed by these men, of whom all but one are multi-millionaires. They have political connections going all the way to President Vicente Fox, and some have allegedly made contributions to Fox's presidential campaign.
They have ties to the Juarez Cartel, and have used their drug wealth to build respectable businesses.

Yes, the visceral hatred many critics levelled at McCarthy's film seemed like nothing so much as rage at being inconvenienced by confrontation with reality. To me, that was the best film of 2013 by miles.

"But here’s what is true. If whole nations are capable of love and hate and greed and envy—which they are—then it’s just more than possible that murder itself can become a collective enterprise. Murder as a national pastime...

The point, Counselor, is that you may think there are things that these people would simply be incapable of. There are not."

It is a testament to the power of the State, even in our, uh, modern age, to dictate the parameters of objective reality that we are so often driven to cinema & fiction for references and guideposts for actual crimes in the real world.

UN ship 'carried child prostitutes'
From correspondents in the United Nations
THE United Nations is investigating a report that a ship chartered for peacekeepers in East Timor is also being used to bring child prostitutes to the island nation, the organisation said today.
The allegations surfaced over the weekend in the Portuguese weekly Expresso. The Expresso report said UN personnel were involved in bringing girls from Thailand to East Timor as prostitutes.
"So far, some of the allegations are unsubstantiated," said Hua Jiang, UN deputy spokeswoman. She would not elaborate or comment further on the status of the investigation being conducted by the UN's office of internal oversight.
The same office investigated allegations last year of sexual exploitation of refugee children in West Africa by employees of more than 40 private aid organisations.
That report found the allegations largely unsubstantiated although they were raised in a report by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

http://www.news.com.au/common/printpage ... 18,00.html

The United Nations' investigating arm has cleared several U.N. workers of charges of sexual abuse against West African refugee children but has substantiated 10 new cases against aid workers, officials said.

The final report, already presented to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, is expected to be released "in the coming days, or weeks," said a senior U.N. official, who asked not to be identified.

One of the 10 new cases involved a volunteer working for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, the preeminent world refugee agency, while the other nine cases involved personnel from nongovernmental agencies.

The probe was ordered a day after the UNHCR and a major children's charity reported accusations in February of extensive sexual exploitation of refugee children in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone by local employees of more than 40 private aid organizations and U.N. agencies.

For Chile's right wing, it has become the scandal that refuses to go away. Though the ''Caso Claudio Spiniak'' began as a squalid sexual matter, it has been transformed into a political issue that has divided supporters of Gen. Augusto Pinochet and pitted them against an increasingly combative news media.

The scandal has been agitating Chile since late last year, when María Pía Guzmán, a conservative member of Congress, denounced what she described as a prostitution and child pornography ring and accused Mr. Spiniak, the nouveau riche owner of a string of health clubs, of leading it. She said that some of her own political allies were involved.

''There is evidence that within the intimate circle of Spiniak's network, there are politicians,'' she said, citing accounts that she said she had heard at a shelter for sexually abused youths.

In the latest round of accusations, made public in July, people identified as procurers for the ring have implicated as clients the mayor of a large city and a Roman Catholic bishop renowned for his opposition to the Pinochet dictatorship. Both men have denied any involvement in the sex ring, but in a poll taken early this year, three-quarters of those surveyed said they believed that politicians were involved.

And of course, there's the extensive reporting on the Scottish pedo rings and abuse cases as well as the deep rabbit hole revolving around the Jimmy Saville case Plus ya have to wonder how many people were involved
in protecting Sandusky and his victim farming charity front

The State exists not to protect the citizens but to protect itself.

Reminded me of one of the most potent lines from the Michael Salter book I am reading now -- from a chapter outlining his own personal experiences:

"The advice from the forensics team was that we should change our names and leave the state."

I'm jealous. I cannot yet afford it. If you feel like doing a bit of book lending coast to coast, I'd be so grateful.
