It is a credit to the ingenious system of cogs, levers and wheels within wheels, established over millenia, that has reached a pinnacle of self-replication and self-sustaining viability. The system barely needs to recruit at the lower eschelons - it now has the willing participation of the detainees - mentally, obligingly and lovingly locked in a matrix, eager to forfill their self-ordained tasks, allied to a sense of righteous justification and correctness. It's a 'win-win' scenario for a system to have a vice-like grip around it's victim's throat, whilst the victim smiles back, oblivious and blind.

And here we have the BBC, on cue - demonising an enemy that dares to confront our system:

Russian President Vladimir Putin "personally ordered" the killing of Alexander Litvinenko, the inquiry into the former spy's death has heard.
Ben Emmerson QC, for Mr Litvinenko's family, said in his closing statement that Russian state responsibility had been proven "beyond reasonable doubt".

The demonization of the most popular Russian leader (Vladimir Putin) of all time: More Confusionisme. John Wight, Socialist Unity.

Image

Most Popular Russian Leader of All Time……..

This Blog commented recently that “Political Confusionism” – (from our French comrades’ “Confusionnisme”) is a growing, if marginal, phenomenon on the left.

Larousse defines Confusionnisme as “Fait d’entretenir la confusion dans les esprits et d’empêcher l’analyse objective des faits.”, That is, “To bring (and keep) confusion in people’s minds and to prevent an objective analysis of facts.”

From the anti-imperialism of fools to the defence by the co-Chair of the British Young Greens of the reactionary full-face veil on the spurious grounds that it is being attacked as part of the government’s Prevent strategy we can see how this works.

Emotions, hostility to the ‘West’ and “Empire”, “Islamophobia” and “racism” are used to confuse people and prevent solidarity with our sisters and brothers fighting nationalist strongmen, communalist bullies and Islamism.

It is an entirely appropriate extension of the word in English to call “confusionism” the much more deliberate ideological strategy taken up by those promoting the defenders of Vladimir Putin.

In the comments on an excellent article on Shiraz Socialist about just how reactionary Putin is, and how he has garnered supporters ranging from the European far-right ( Front National, the Hungarian Jobbik, the Bulgarian Attack, the Slovak People’s Party, and various far-right parties in German) to some people on the ‘left’.

Whether they do so for venal reasons (the Front National has benefited from generous Russian loans) or out of conviction, that the Kremlin leader is a bulwark against decadence, or a much needed-counterweight to Western power, is irrelevant.

The facts – that is the record of Putin’s rule – are obscured and confused.

Prominent amongst British confusionists is a certain John Wight, contributor to the Socialist Unity site, run by Andy Newman, unsuccessful Labour candidate (2015) for Chippenham.

Wight, not surprisingly, pops up on Russia Today (RT).

Precisely: and when one does this, then expect people to question those sources, and expose them if they are found to be propaganda, which, in this thread they are. Consistently.

Wrapping oneself in the flag of Anti-Fa, when what is *actually* being supported and propagated is a Soros-funded and neo-liberal ideology driven ecosystem of faux-academic think tanks, publications, shills and a broadband's worth of connections with Mil Intel and the Israeli Right.

This thread is an education in the logic of "If you are not with us, you are against us", wrapped in a progressive "We are against BOTH sides".
No, you are not.

All you need to know about the Russia Insider scandal–and more

Image

Bausman is a shadowy figure. Before he launched Russia Insider in 2014, he worked for AVG Capital Partners, a Russian private capital firm specializing in agribusiness. In addition to his own seed money and funds he ripped off from people like Lavelle, he relied early on from contributions from one Konstantin Malofeev, a Russian oligarch who has quite a track record. Like most Putinites, he is committed to strong family values and serves as the chairman of the Saint Basil the Great Charitable Foundation that seeks to strengthen the Russian Orthodox Church. He is also on the board of trustees of the Safe Internet League that created the original draft of Internet censorship law in Russia. And to top it all off, he hosted a secret anti-gay conference in Austria that drew upon the support of the country’s ultraright as Searchlight magazine reported.

A secret meeting discussing ways to rid Europe of the ‘satanic gay lobby’ was hosted by a Russian oligarch and attended by a host of far-right MPs and ultra-conservative Eurasian ideologists in Vienna at the weekend – just across the road from where the Life Ball was taking place the very same night.

The meeting was hosted by Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeew and his Saint Basil the Great Charitable Foundation and was attended by nationalists and Christian fundamentalists from Russia and the West. These were thought to include the chief Russian ideologist of the Eurasian movement Alexander Dugin, the nationalist painter Ilja Glasunow, and MPs from far right parties including the Freedom Party leader Heinz-Christian Strache.

So the Nato-critical faction coming out of Russia is often, is to a large part socially conservative.

And then we have the socially liberal pro-Nato messengers who are interventionist.

Where do the leftists and the rightists of, say, the Bush era then fall?

I know, I know... neither! Third way! Something else entirely!

But this dynamic contains major actors.

The spectre of a neoconservative policy fence surrounding a socially liberal polity is real and present.

What does that do to our narratives?

Western neo-Liberalism vs. Russo-philic reactionary nationalism is a rather narrow range of choices.

Is pro-State propaganda somehow ok if it is the Russian State?

The boss hogs there lie, cheat and steal, rape, pillage and rob, like all the rest everywhere else...

Agreed. Let's take that as a given. And I also agree on the narrowness of the choices – it's an incredibly claustrophobic and unimaginative situation.

And yet... over the coming years, I suspect that policymakers will in a variety of high-profile situations select from these options, and voters will to a degree select from said policymakers even as they personally bemoan the cramped and deforming landscape, holding their noses and so forth.

In the United States, we already see Hillary Clinton running on a platform of social liberalism and neoconservative foreign policy. Merkel is similar insofar as she will go to great lengths to accept refugees but has been silent on protesting the series of neocon wars that have shattered their homelands.

Given the limitations of those sorts of choices, it makes complete sense to reject the propaganda of Putin, his clique of oligarchs, client states and any and all opportunists- especially reactionary nationalists- who attach themselves to the cause.

Same logic applies for the United States, Western Europe and everywhere else that domination and exploitation are leading principles.

That should be Rigourous Intuition 101.

You know what? You're hard to talk to. I was trying to engage, and you shut the convo down with the implication that the line of inquiry was somehow settled by virtue of my being here, that I was committing an offense against the board by raising it.

I wanted to engage because I don't think you're wrong in raising discussion of a lot of these elements, I think they are ascendant in certain ways and it's worth talking about, but you seem to be positioning yourself as an arbiter, an offended holder of the true mandate, yowling at usurpers.

What do you want, just to post stuff talking about how shitty fascists are and for us all to say, yeah, they're shitty? What kind of forum is that?

Forget it.

I was responding to your comments but have my own point of view, which is definitely critical of crypto-Right chicanery in particular, as well as the domination and exploitation of the rich and powerful in general. In that, I reject the "neither Right nor Left" type bullshit that tries to pass itself off as anti-fascist.

This also should be Rigorous Intuition 101.

OK. So what's a liberal polity ringed by neoconservative wars? What's Hillary -- right or left? Like you I find ambiguity to be easily exploitable.

The general term I would use is "Neoliberalism".

Reactionary nationalists do use it as a straw man in order to pose their own bogus alternatives but that is sketchy shit.
