‘She seemed very sweet but odd’

And in the past several years, Gutowski said, Bisesar’s mental health had deteriorated. She was hospitalized in 2014. She was alienated from her family and she appeared to be increasingly paranoid.

“She’s a sweet person,” Gutowski said. But lately, “she seemed very sweet but odd.”

Police say Bisesar was arrested Tuesday at approximately 3:05 p.m. Ten minutes earlier, someone using Bisesar’s personal email address sent a message to the National Post.

Gutowski’s confirmed that the email address is authentic and that Bisesar had been using it Tuesday. But the Post could not independently confirm that the message came from her.

The email opens with a plea:

“Do you know any top professionals in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, nanotechnology, satellites?” it said. “Maybe Military. Maybe Government?

“Something has been happening to me and this is not my normal self and I would like to know who and why this is happening. There is either a single person or more responsible and who and why would be nice to know.”

It then goes on to address the stabbing.

“I am sorry about the incidence,” the email said. “I felt the need to be extreme to see if it would work. I would normally not do such a thing.”

Gutowski said Bisesar’s successful friends helped her through years of unemployment, letting her sleep on their couches or lending her money.

“She’s been able to sustain herself from a large network of friends,” he said. “I speculate the list got shorter and shorter.”

Her only real break came in 2010 when she landed a job at GMP Capital, a financial services firm with an office on King Street West, he said. But her employment there only lasted about eight months.

“She got that one job, but she didn’t get to keep it for too long,” Gutowski said. “She couldn’t adjust to pretty normal office politics.”

Friday’s stabbing happened in the heart of Toronto’s financial district, at a Shopper’s Drug Mart in the underground PATH system. The victim, who hasn’t been identified, suffered life-threatening injuries.

Police charged Bisesar Tuesday with attempted murder, aggravated assault and carrying a concealed weapon. She was due to appear in court Wednesday morning.

News of the apparently random attack rippled through the tight financial district this week. Bisesar was well known in several coffee shops in the area. And until about a month ago, she was a regular at a Starbucks on Yonge and Adelaide streets, according to the manager, Ryan Baron.

Baron said Bisesar sat for months most days at a window bench near the bathroom. He didn’t find anything unusual about her. She was quiet, polite. But about a month ago, she just stopped showing up.

As for Gutowski, he continued to stay in touch with Bisesar even as she alienated many others in her life. She had supported his career and encouraged him to succeed, and he wanted to help her get over her illness. They’ve exchanged more than 1,100 emails over the past five years.

“I was trying to be the voice of reason,” Gutowski said. “But you can’t really reason with a person who’s not sharing anything except her own circular reasoning, which is very faulty.”

Man arrested after killing 15 and wounding 45 in knife attack at Kanagawa care facility

A 26-year-old man was arrested Tuesday morning after fatally stabbing 15 people and wounding 45 others at a facility for people with disabilities in Kanagawa Prefecture, NHK reported.

The knife-wielding man carried out the attack at Tsukui Yamayuri-en, a facility for the disabled in Sagamihara, shortly after 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, local police were quoted as saying.

Kanagawa police said they arrested a man identified as Satoshi Uematsu, 26, when he turned himself in at the Tsukui Police Station at around 3 a.m. and owned up to the attack. He is reportedly being held on initial suspicion of attempted murder. The suspect said he used to work at the facility, the police said.

The number of casualties could rise, as Kyodo News reported 19 people were confirmed as having no signs of life, quoting local firefighters.

Other media reports said at least 15 were killed and four others are showing no signs of life, while 24 others were wounded, including 20 in serious condition.

The motive for the attack was not immediately known, but the suspect has told police, “It would be better if disabled people disappeared,” according to the Asahi Shimbun.

A neighbor of the facility, in a mountain valley area south of Mount Takao, told NHK that a man with blond hair and wearing black clothes was held by police.

The facility provides accommodations and day-care services for people with disabilities, and has a swimming pool, gym and medical clinic.

The early morning attack is one of the worst single-perpetrator mass murders in postwar Japan.

In 2001, a man entered an elementary school in the city of Ikeda, Osaka Prefecture, stabbed eight children to death and wounded 15 other people. In 2008, a man rammed a truck into a street crowd in Tokyo’s Akihabara district, running people over and then going on a stabbing spree. The indiscriminate attack killed seven and injured 10.

And in 2010, a man set an adult video-viewing shop on fire in the Nanba district in the city of Osaka, killing 16.

BREAKING: City centre knife rampage leaves 'several injured' as manhunt launched
A MAJOR manhunt is underway after a "mass stabbing attack" in a city centre.
By Nicholas Bieber / Published 7th March 2018

Several people are reportedly injured after a man went on a knife rampage in Vienna, Austria.

Unconfirmed reports say at least three people are "seriously injured" after the attacker "randomly attacked pedestrians".

The three people are reported to be an Austrian family – a mum, dad and daughter – who were attacked outside a Japanese restaurant.

The attacker fled the scene near the city's Nestroyplatz subway station and headed towards Praterstern station where he stabbed another person.

A major manhunt is now underway along the long stretch of road in Vienna's second district Praterstrasse where the attacks took place.

The three injured victims have been rushed to hospital following the stabbing spree at 7.45pm local time.

Suicide by Cop ??? Call cops claiming you've killed family then appear to cops with a weapon...

NEW DETAILS: Man wielding pickax killed in police shooting in East Austin (Video)

8:25 a.m. update: A 46-year-old man with a pickax was killed after being shot by police in East Austin early Wednesday, Chief Brian Manley said.

Officers received a call at 4:18 a.m. in which the caller claimed he had killed his father and brother at a home in the 4800 block of Tanney Street, Manley said.

Several officers arrived at the scene at 4:23 a.m. and made contact with the caller in the street, Manley said.

According to the chief, police video shows officers issuing commands to the man to “drop the weapon” and “Please drop the pickax.”

After about 10 minutes of negotiating with the man and issuing multiple commands to disarm, officers then approached the man, Manley said.

The chief said officers first used less lethal rounds of impact munitions as the man approached the house, but he blocked them with a chair in his hand. Officers also used a stun gun, Manley said.

When the man raised his pickax against the approaching officers, the officers fired at the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the chief said.

No one in the house was found to be harmed, he said.

Manley said five officers were involved in shooting, including a six-year veteran, three officers who have been on the force for a year and another officer has been on the police force less than a year.

As is standard practice in every police shooting, all have been placed on administrative duty while investigations into the incident are underway.

The three officers who used less lethal rounds and the stun gun are also on administrative duty pending the investigations.

“My heart goes out, the department’s heart, the city’s heart goes out to this family,” Chief Manley said of the man’s relatives who had gathered at the scene.

“But when we respond to an incident like this, and not knowing what had happened in that house ... there was a need to get in and make sure that there had not been anyone harmed,” Manley said.

He added that it appeared that the man had left a suicide note.

Police did not release the man’s name, but members of the man’s family who had gathered outside the home identified him as Victor Ancira.

“He was a loving, caring person. He didn’t bother no one,” said Ancira’s niece, 21-year-old Samantha Chavez. “He stayed inside, he was sick. He had a disability ... we are all hurt right now.”

Earlier: Austin police responded early Wednesday to a shooting in East Austin involving an officer.

The shooting occurred in the 4800 block of Tanney Street, just off of Springdale Road. The street is blocked off between Denfield and Mark streets while authorities investigate the scene.

Police have not yet released any additional details.

This is the second Austin police shooting in a little more than two weeks. On Feb. 19, 23-year-old Thomas Vincent Alvarez was fatally shot by police after Alvarez led officers on a chase that ended at an apartment complex in the 4900 block of Edge Creek Drive.

The seven officers who opened fire on Alvarez – Matthew Henion, DeAndre Wright, Nicholas Grebhart, Benjamin Rogers, Robert Brady, Rafael Rosales and Khristof Oborski – are on administrative leave while investigations into the incident are underway.

This is a developing story; check back for details.

Feds planned to charge Gardens teen for international school threats

Corey Johnson, 17, is facing a homicide charge in the Monday morning stabbing that left a boy dead and a woman and child seriously injured at a home in BallenIsles Country Club. (Allen Eyestone / The Palm Beach Post)

JUPITER — A week before Corey Johnson confessed to stabbing three people — one of them fatally — in a Palm Beach Gardens home, authorities were discussing pending federal criminal charges against the 17-year-old, according to a Jupiter police report.

Johnson was arrested Monday on charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder after investigators say he killed 13-year-old Jovanni Sierra and stabbed Elaine Simon, 43, and her son 13-year-old, Dane Bancroft, during a sleepover at a home in BallenIsles County Club.

Johnson told police his faith is what led him to the violent acts.

But before the Palm Beach Gardens attack, even as early as middle school, Johnson had been on the radar of law enforcement, the report said.

911 call: Hear the call to Palm Beach Gardens police about the fatal stabbing in BallenIsles Country Club
Palm Beach Post

In January 2017, several local law-enforcement agencies and the FBI came together with the staff at William T. Dwyer High School in Palm Beach Gardens, where he was a student at the time. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office received information that Johnson supported the terrorist organization ISIS and had reached out to the group online, expressing his desire to join them.

A sheriff’s detective interviewed Johnson for a mental-health assessment and said the teen sympathized with terrorist organizations, the report said.

Palm Beach County School District Police said that during middle school, Johnson made anti-Semitic and anti-homosexual statements. He also said he had similar beliefs to the KKK. School police said they received information that Johnson “has violent tendencies,” “has spoken about inappropriate places to bomb” and “is a White Supremacist.”

» LATEST: Boy stabbed 32 times ‘saved his mom’ from attacker, father says

Investigators also learned there were several guns inside of Johnson’s residence, according to the report. His family later told investigators there were guns in his mother’s home but were locked in a safe.

When Johnson’s mother and grandparents were interviewed by law enforcement, they said Johnson was fascinated with dictators such as Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin and Kim Jong-un. They said he had “recently began discovering religion” and had been studying the Quran.

After the meeting, the FBI told Jupiter police that a counter-intelligence agency in Europe investigated Johnson’s connection to several threats made on Instagram to McAuley Catholic High School in Doncaster, England. Though the report does not say what the threats were, authorities said they “were so severe in nature that up to 100 students were removed from the school fearing some kind of attack.” British news outlets reported that in October 2016, a threat posted on Instagram stated “we will kill every single infidel student at this school.”

» Boy killed in BallenIsles stabbings invited his killer for pizza night before

In the weeks following, law enforcement monitored Johnson’s movements and his social-media accounts, and interviewed his family. Authorities noted his Facebook account had the image of a swastika as its profile picture.

Initially, the FBI did not want to charge Johnson because he was a juvenile and “believed a redirection approach would be the most beneficial regarding his conduct.” So in March 2017, the FBI got consent to “mirror” Johnson’s computer activity.

Additionally, they spoke with the teen —who denied any affiliation with ISIS — and told him “to cease all social media activities related to ISIS and any other terrorist organization” and have no further contact with the Catholic high school in England, the report said.

By the summer of 2017, the FBI said Johnson was back to making more online posts and that they were working to bring official charges against him, according to the police report.

In February, the FBI said it had all the evidence it needed and that an assistant U.S. attorney had probable cause to charge Johnson.

On March 5, Jupiter police checked in with the FBI to see where they were with the federal charges and the agent said the affidavits would be “coming in the next several weeks.”

A week later, Johnson was in jail for the fatal stabbing in Palm Beach Gardens.

Jeez, Elfsmiles, this all begs the question... if knives (and cars) are really as deadly as guns... then what the heck do you need guns for? You've already got access to deadly knives (and cars)!

Careful now -- you're getting dangerously close to an argument raised by those against additional/more restrictive gun laws..

"why does no one clamor for the outlaw of knives or cars (etc..) -- they can be just as deadly as guns".

Indeed, it seems it's the individual that can take an object -- any object -- and turn it into a deadly weapon.

I think there are underlying factors/problems that won't be solved by any new laws offering a 'hacking at the branches' approach to the collective ills we've (increasingly) witnessed domestically over the last 15-20yrs.

Future legislation will be enacted ostensibly in 'good faith' on behalf of the people, but will partially (or largely) benefit powerful interests... as per standard M.O.

A sizable segment of the populace will clamor for it regardless, as they are conditioned to do..

And in full disclosure, I own no 'guns' (I may at some point, perhaps) but have no stance/objection towards gun ownership for anyone cleared to purchase.
