Pew: White Christians no longer a majority

White Christians now make up less than half of the U.S. population, largely receding from the majorities of most demographic groups, with one notable exception: the Republican Party.
According to the latest results from Pew Research Center's Religious Landscape survey published Monday by National Journal's Next America project, just 46 percent of American adults are white Christians, down from 55 percent in 2007.

At the same time, according to the report, the share of white Christians identifying as Republican has remained steady, even equal with the share of the party that carried President Ronald Reagan to his 1984 reelection. Nearly seven in 10 white Christians — 69 percent — identify with or lean toward the GOP, while just 31 percent do the same with Democrats.
Among nonwhite Christians, meanwhile, 32 percent identify with or lean toward Democrats, and just 13 percent do the same with Republicans.
In less than a decade, the gap in Christian identification between Democrats and Republicans has increased by 50 percent. According to the data presented, in 2007, 88 percent of white Republicans and 70 percent of white Democrats identified as Christian, an 18-point disparity. By 2014, 84 percent of white Republicans identified as Christian, but the share of white Democrats identifying as Christian fell by 13 points, to 57 percent, a 27-point gap.
Pew conducted the massive survey by telephone between June 4 and Sept. 30, 2014, interviewing 35,071 Americans, with an overall margin of error of plus or minus 0.6 percentage points.

I hope this thread doesn't end up in the flame pit.

I suppose God had to die eventually. The next demiurge will operate through biological nanotechnology and be operated through microwave transmissions as this transhuman thing slowly unfolds, and it will unfold very slowly in the future.

Eventually this whole planet will be a race of robots and I think that will be boring as hell but I won't be alive to see it.

Technology is always generations ahead of what the public is aware of, and the faster technology evolves, the faster it evolves, because it becomes more capable of evolution. All the components of a smart phone were invented by darpa.

The shit that is being cooked in the labs right now is mind bending, literally...

Well, it is an expression of glee at the diminishing of a racial/religious group. The avoidance of recrimination here will require either extreme ideological unanimity, zealous moderation or some sort of digression that results in us talking about either things that our cats do or the Muslim Brotherhood. Those sorts of things are very distracting.

To go the other way, we could broaden the thread with examples of other racial/religious groups that we would like to see lose some of their demographic prominence in countries around the world.

Who wants to go first?

The declining demographics has more to do with the spiritual crisis most of the "whites" are going through. It just isn't as far along as it is in Europe. The demographics can dramatically shift over a few generations, particularly if whites feel threatened by militant agitation from both far left and far right.

Today was definitely an inflection point in the road to the New America.

Everything got turned up to 11 - Turkey, Russia, Syria, Black Lives Matter, Trump/Carson - looking forward to the spectacles to come.

In terms of belief systems Earth might be better off without: Wahhabi and Salafist Islam.

Oh, they are a bunch of rascals -- to the devil with them, I say!

But you already picked.

How does everyone feel about the Chinese?

Powerfully ambivalent. I have a number of successful friends who have essentially gone native and live and work there full time now. They're fans, and the photos they send me make it easy to see why Vermont boys could be so seduced.

Aside from their need -- whether culturally conditioned or innate, I'll defer to AD's sources on that -- for powdered tiger dick, I don't see anything uniquely or especially bad about a Chinese Century. I'd rather see a Mongolian Century, but history just doesn't bend to my whims like she used to.

The idea of a Mongolian century reminds me of how Wilfrid Laurier called the 20th for Canada.

But then we lacked death worms.

The glee is at least understandable.

India overtaking China in the 21st century would be neat.
