There was never any talk of a third shooter. There was a third "suspect" detained near the vehicle who was apparently just someone running from the gun fire. Nothing more is said, because that person was in no way involved.

California gunmen said to be on US, Saudi and Pakistani watch lists
DEBKAfile December 3, 2015, 9:21 PM (IDT)
American intelligence sources said Thursday that the two perpetrators of the previous day's mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, had been designated by intelligence services as terror suspects. Farook was on a US list, while Malik had been listed by Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. The sources added that a thorough check of the detonators of the explosives used by the couple revealed that they were assembled exactly according to the instructions published in Al-Qaeda's "Inspire" magazine.
Meanwhile, police sources in San Bernardino said Thursday that a search of the basement of the couple's apartment found 12 pipe bombs, explosives for various bombs, including roadside bombs, and large amounts of ammunition for rifles and handguns.

It is also now known that just two weeks before the shooting rampage, Farook got into a heated argument with a Messianic Jewish colleague about Islam. The gunman's co-worker, 52-year-old Nicholas Thalasinos, was identified today as one of the victims in the attacks.
Kuuleme Stephens said she happened to call Thalasinos while he was at work and having a discussion with Farook.
Thalasinos identified Farook by name and told her the 28-year-old believed Islam was a peaceful religion. She added that Farook said Americans don't understand Islam.
Stephens said both men worked as county restaurant inspectors and regularly discussed politics and religion. Thalasinos was passionate about pro-Israel causes and was known to rant about Islam on Facebook.
As the New York Post first reported, Thalasinos' profile page was filled with negative comments about Muslims and references to his conservative beliefs.
In one of his final status updates posted on Tuesday, Thalasinos responded to an anti-Semitic tirade allegedly penned by an apparent Muslim living in Ukraine who railed against Jews and Israel.
‘Anyway my new hobby appears to be BLOCKING PAGAN ANTISEMITIC TROGLODYTES so I'm just passing this along to warn others,’ was Thalasinos' reply.
He was back online early Wednesday morning, just hours before the shooting, sharing articles about Russia's Vladimir Putin and posting a negative comment about President Obama.
It's unclear at this point if the discussion between the two men played any role in the massacre

.The husband and wife who carried out a deadly shooting spree in San Bernardino, California, began erasing their digital footprint a day in advance of the attack — deleting email accounts, disposing of hard drives and smashing their cell phones, according to law enforcement sources involved in the investigation.
Officials are still working to determine what motivated Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik to storm a conference room inside the Inland Regional Center as a holiday party was taking place Wednesday and spray the room with bullets.
Fourteen people were killed and 21 others injured either in the initial attack or as police engaged in a firefight that mortally wounded the heavily armed couple.
Officials involved in the investigation say the couple appeared to have gone to great lengths to conceal their plans — a cell phone recovered from Ms. Malik’s body was newly purchased and had had been used only recently. Two other cell phones that were recovered had been smashed with a hammer and were expected to be sent to the FBI’s forensic lab in Washington for examination.
Authorities also noted that a hard drive and motherboard are missing from a computer found at the Redlands, California, home the couple rented
