Question about Clintons private server

I see a whole lot of people's (not RI members) new found faith in the FBI and right wing assholes that have been going after the Clintons for 20 years in getting to the bottom of Clinton's server scandal. I have no faith in either of them. Does anyone here believe the FBI will "get" Clinton? Does anyone here believe the NSA does not already have everything Clinton had on that "private" server? If so have they "shared" that with the FBI like they shared all the original 9/11 crime scene evidence?

Was Clinton so naive to think the NSA wasn't collecting all her stuff like they were collecting everyone else's? Did she care?

Isn't the NSA holding back stuff about Benghazi?

They can't give it up cause that wouldn't look good that they were spying on the Sec of State....could they?

just bargaining chips to be used in exchange for 'nice to haves' on the agencies shopping lists, i imagine.

- part exchange, tho - you wouldn't want to give up leverage that could last you a full 8 years..........

That's my hypothesis on how this is playing out behind the scenes: whatever compromising material is on there is cancelled out not only by its relation to other NSA/FBI/Security Snooping State Shenanigans, but because it would compromise other overworld types much higher up the elite food chain than Hillary herself.

It would surprise the hell out of me if she were indicted. If I saw her acting unhinged in the way Ted Cruz did in the last week, that would be a tell, but she's been cool as a cucumber. I don't think her private server is her achilles heel. I think her achilles heel is just being Hillary.

All good replies to the OP, esp by StillRobertP.

No way would they give up juicy blackmail morsels that could be used later. For all we know exposing all the emails would likely expose more scummy behavior by that alphabets. The NSA probably detected this private email server almost immediately and unless it was using state of the art crypto had access right away. When the the FBI and NSA publicly state we need weaker encryption it's a red herring.

Not sure what the exact reasoning for her to setup her own server, most likely she didn't trust the people who manage whatever system(s) are used by the rest of the state dept. staff.

If the info on Wikipedia is true (I frankly don't trust Wiki all that much) then Hillary gets props for using the server as a red herring in foreign diplomacy, or she is complete freaking idiot. Anybody who knows anything about IT would cringe at the setup. She didn't even bother to have in a place an SSL certificate, one of the most basic security features anybody who is remotely competent knows this. I've setup plenty of SSL certs on servers, not that hard to do. Running any server without encryption is like having sex without a condom and just hoping your partner doesn't get pregnant.

Server security and hacking attempts Edit

In 2008, before Hillary Clinton became Secretary of State, Justin Cooper, a longtime aide to Clinton's husband, former President Bill Clinton, managed the system. Cooper had no security clearance or expertise in computer security.[34] Later, Bryan Pagliano, the former IT director for Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign, was hired to maintain their private email server while Clinton was Secretary of State.[35][36] Pagliano had invoked the Fifth Amendment during congressional questioning about Clinton's server. In early 2016, he was granted immunity by the Department of Justice in exchange for cooperation with prosecutors.[37][38] A Clinton spokesman said her campaign was "pleased" Pagliano was now cooperating with prosecutors.[39]

Security experts such as Chris Soghoian believe that emails could be at risk of hacking and foreign surveillance.[40] Marc Maiffret, a cybersecurity expert, said that the server had "amateur hour" vulnerabilities.[41] For the first two months after Clinton was appointed Secretary of State and began accessing mail on the server through her Blackberry, transmissions to and from the server were apparently not encrypted. On March 29, 2009 a “digital certificate" was obtained which would have permitted HTTPS encryption.[1]

Former Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency Michael T. Flynn,[42] former United States Secretary of Defense Robert Gates,[43][44] and former deputy director of the Central Intelligence Agency Michael Morell[45][46] have said that it is likely that foreign governments were able to access the information on Clinton's server. Michael Hayden, former Director of the National Security Agency, Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency said "I would lose all respect for a whole bunch of foreign intelligence agencies if they weren't sitting back, paging through the emails."[47]

Clinton's server was configured to allow users to connect openly from the Internet and control it remotely using Microsoft's Remote Desktop Services.[41][48] It is known that hackers in Russia were aware of Clinton's non-public email address as early as 2011.[49] Server records also show that, using a computer in Serbia, a hacker had scanned Clinton's Chappaqua server at least twice, in August and in December 2012. It was unclear whether the hacker knew the server belonged to Clinton, although it did identify itself as providing email services for clintonemail.com.[41] During 2014, Clinton's server was the target of repeated intrusions originating in Germany, China, and South Korea. Threat monitoring software on the server blocked at least five such attempts. The software was installed in October 2013, and for three months prior to that, no such software had been installed.[50][51]

what was her e-mail address on that server?

There's no reason to even think she would have anything "bad" there as it was an official address used for government business. If she wanted an email for nefarious purposes, it would be like bob1234@whatever.com - not her widely known "official" e-mail address. Which had to be setup by multiple IT people within the governments IT. It was allowed to happen, it could have easily been prevented, so she'd have had no reason to think it was unacceptable. Personally, I think it's just a case of taking bad advice from an old IT "guru" she relied on.

By all means, let us snoop through EVERY single person who has access to classified info and ensure none of them have ever got a bit of it into less-secure locations. and by the way, what's so secure about the official infrastructure? Wasn't it just a few months ago we were told shitloads of government servers had been compromised for years?

If there was anything serious there, it would have come out long before now.

Sanders presented an olive branch from the very beginning about this "issue" but she is cut throat -- he stuck up for her. But what really would any of us care about the content of the emails? I know I sure wouldn't and I am normally into such stuff. I know she's lame and that is really all we need to care about. Everyone online who is "left wing" says we must get behind her. Sorry not happening. I will perhaps not vote at all. It is Sanders or Stein and that is it.

I keep pointing out that there's nothing "left wing" about $hillary. Most liberals' reactions are the same as if I'd taken a shit in a crowded swimming pool.

I'll write in Sanders or Stein too. No way I'm voting FOR Hillary, even if I'm supposedly voting AGAINST Drumpf.

Good points, I have to admit that I was guilty of the naïveté that Seemslikeadream described in her first post until I read this thread. Of course! Of course it's going down the way Robert Paulson explains.

Her address on the server was "hrod" followed by some numbers, which I thought was funny.

I also agree with Robert. The emails in question were retroactively classified - the information when sent and received was not at the time classified, but were much later in time. It's a non-issue, really.
Once that's been said, the conversation turns immediately to Benghazi!

Hrod? Like "Hot Rod"?

Hot Rod Clinton.

That could help her.

Hillary Clinton's Emails About Fukushima -- And Then A Black Out As She Goes to Japan to Support US Nuke Cartel

I only have a few takeaways from the review of several thousand emails to and from Hilary Clinton in 2011 Spring. But first the skeleton in the closet. Clinton had almost daily email communications on Fukushima, then 2 aids or handlers implored her to go to Japan even though she was really tired from so much travel. After that second email imploring her to go to Japan, ALL HER FUKUSHIMA EMAIL STOPPED---well at least it was not disclosed in the email disclosure.
