Jo Cox dead: Labour MP dies after being shot and stabbed in Birstall, West Yorkshire

Ms Cox was a popular MP and former aid worker who campaigned across a number of issues before her death

Jo Cox, the Labour MP for Batley and Spen, has died after being shot and stabbed in West Yorkshire. She was 41-years-old.

Ms Cox was attacked in her constituency in Birstall near to where she held her weekly surgery. She was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary in a critical condition.

Her death was confirmed by West Yorkshire Police in a press conference this afternoon.

“The whole of the Labour Party and Labour family - and indeed the whole country - will be in shock at the horrific murder of Jo Cox today,” the Labour party said in a statement.

“Jo died doing her public duty at the heart of our democracy, listening to and representing the people she was elected to serve.”

Born in Batley, Ms Cox went on to study at Cambridge University, graduating in 1995. She was the first out of her family to graduate from university.

A former aid worker, she campaigned in economically deprived and war-torn countries across the world on issues such as discrimination and poverty.

Before entering politics, Ms Cox held a number of roles, including as an advisor to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and former head of humanitarian campaigning for Oxfam. She was also the national chair of the Labour Women’s network, worked with charities such as Save the Children, acted as a senior advisor to the anti-slavery charity the Freedom Fund and as an advisor to Sarah Brown.

Ms Cox was a vocal advocate for those affected by the Syrian crisis and abstained in the contentious vote on allowing British military action in Syria. She backed the Dubs amendment before it was defeated in the House of Commons that would have allowed the UK to accept 3,000 child refugees stranded in camps in Europe.

This makes me really sad for some reason. Sadder than most of these senseless killings. Not sure why.

I don't know if you can measure these things, but I'm really down too.

I don't much care for the flippant thread title either...

Anyway... :hug1: everyone.

Well at least you could consider yourself the all-time winner of any arguments you had with him. Also, we'd finally be done with his lame and transparent equivocations and hemming and hawing about the beliefs he so obviously subscribes to.

Too bad there is nothing funny about this latest horror. Poor woman.

And with backtoiam currently out we may not get any video from something she said once in a nervous or unrealistic way that makes his spidey sense tingle to suggest that she never existed in the first place let alone died. Because all this talk about racist violent pigs existing is just more of that globalist divide and conquer.

Yeah, regrettable title. What a tragedy. She was also the mother of two small children.

Obviously this is a terrible tragedy for her family and constituents. UK MPs aren't murdered very often. The two that spring to mind are Airey Neave and Robert Bradford. Both allegedly killed by the Republicans but probably killed by factions closer to their own side.

This lady could have murdered for many different reasons. It seems unlikely that it was a lone nut, or jakell (given the apparent politicization). Why wasn't it a pro remain, cuck tory male killed, for example? I'm sure something like this would have a profound affect of the tendency to vote Brexit, perhaps.

The murder of Jo Cox - MP is sad and senseless,

From what little I have read, Ms. Cox seems like the sort of person, especially for a pol, that we lack and need.

There is however a stark contrast in the UK. On the one hand we have the treatment of the Leyton tube knife attack and of the murder of Lee Rigby, both of which were unequivocally presented as Islamic terrorist incidents despite the obvious mental health problems of the perpetrators. On the other we have the media treatment of the Jo Cox murder, which there is a reluctance to call out as right wing terrorism. That the man is reported as yelling “Britain First” is apparently much less relevant to terrorism than if he had shouted “Allahu Akbar”.

The investigation is not being led by the counter-terrorism police. Simply put, if Tommy Mair were a Muslim, it would be.

Similarly, when Gregoire Murtaux was arrested ten days ago returning from Ukraine to France for Euro 2016 armed with five Kalashnikovs, two anti-tank grenade launchers, 5,000 rounds of ammunition, 100 detonators, and twelve kilos of high explosive, the media storm would still not have abated today if he had been a Muslim. There was more publicity for the Muslim who owned some fertiliser in a garage, or the Islamic “liquid bomb” plot which owned no detonators, explosives or suspicious liquids, or the Islamic “ricin plot” which owned no ricin.

It is a fact that the only terrorist arrested in Britain in this century who actually possessed a viable bomb and intended to use it was named Ryan McGee. He was a soldier, had a swastika on his wall and intended to kill Muslims. He was convicted – but not of terrorism with which, not being a Muslim, he was never charged. Many Muslims on the other hand have been jailed for terrorism for internet fantasy or boasting which had nowhere near reached the stage of preparation McGee had attained.

Just as an addendum to exonerate myself, I thought it was Canada only because Canada and Britain spell Labour the same way. I wasn't being flippant I was just being slightly sardonic about all this madness. It's like when something bad or unfortunate happens one says "sweet just fucking awesome". It comes through with the tone of voice. Not so well in text on the Internet. But that's why I named the OP as I did.

They're pretty much saying he was a perhaps mentally ill man who kept himself to himself beyond doing some volunteering and helping out his mom.

So, mind control assassin then? Darren Brown blew the techniques wide open to the public. I can't see him just coming up with this all by himself with no guidance
