Crowdstrike does not appear among their lists of sponsors on NPR's 2018 or 2019 annual reports. Is it possible they were referring to an earlier report focused upon Crowdstrike; there have been several?

No, the blurb was explicit. Maybe Crowdstrike will appear on the 2020 reports. I could dredge up the audio and prepare a clip (assuming the ad is kept in the archive audio); I laughed out loud as I heard it.

I've gone to the NPR site before to look for other funders who got the 15-second on-air blurbs; one was the Kock Bros. main company—not listed. But I don't recall checking the annual report, though again, Kochs might not have appeared if they were new funders.

Feel free to pick up this subject in the "NPR Watch" thread.

The reports I refer to are legal documents submitted to the government and made available for public inspection. They are available in pdf format and easily found. I'd inquire with your local station for an explanation of their announcement. I do not doubt you heard what you said you heard.

I omitted the links earlier - they are direct downloads:

It now seems impossible to get a direct address from google search, only their encrypted crap.

Witness in the Mueller investigation and informal Trump adviser gets 10 years in prison in child sex case

By Marshall Cohen
Updated 1:38 PM ET, Fri June 26, 2020

(CNN)George Nader, who was a key witness in the Russia investigation and informally advised President Donald Trump's team on foreign policy, was sentenced on Friday to 10 years in prison by a federal judge in Virginia, stemming from his convictions on child sex charges.

The sentence was announced by Judge Leonie Brinkema, closing a disturbing case that exposed Nader's double life as a pedophile who also advised top US and Middle Eastern officials.

Earlier this year, Nader pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography that depicted sexual abuse of minors and admitted bringing an underage boy to the US for sex. These crimes occurred years before the 2016 election, when Nader worked his way into Trump's orbit and served as an informal foreign policy adviser to the transition, attending high-level meetings.

Nader, 61, has already been in jail for more than a year and could apply for "compassionate release" because of the pandemic after he is formally transferred to a federal prison, the judge said.

As part of a plea deal, the Justice Department agreed to recommend that Nader only receive the mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison.
A Middle East specialist with connections to powerful figures throughout the region, Nader attended diplomatic meetings between foreign officials and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, former chief strategist Steve Bannon and former national security adviser Michael Flynn. He "helped arrange" Trump's first international trip to Saudi Arabia in 2017, his lawyers said.

These meetings later fell under the shadow of the Russia investigation, and Nader became an important cooperator for special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. Nader provided information about secret contacts between the Trump transition and a senior Russian government official, and his testimony was cited dozens of times in Mueller's sweeping report.

Nader's criminal case can be traced back to January 2018, when FBI agents working for Mueller stopped him at a Washington, DC-area airport for questioning. While examining his phones, they found a dozen sexually explicit videos of underage boys, according to court filings. He agreed to help Mueller and was permitted to leave the US, but was arrested when he returned in 2019.

Nader 'deceived and abused me,' victim says

Prosecutors say Nader is a lifelong pedophile. He first faced accusations of this nature in 1984, but charges were dropped. He pleaded guilty in 1991 to transporting child pornography, and was convicted in the Czech Republic in 2003 of paying for sex with several underage boys. He was also accused of possessing highly disturbing footage of toddlers being sexually abused.

One of Nader's victims addressed the court on Friday in a video feed from the Czech Republic.

Nader admitted bringing the boy to the US for sex in 2000 when he was 14 years old. Speaking through an interpreter, the victim said Friday that Nader "deceived and abused me" and "stole practically my whole life" by subjecting him to sexual abuse. "I hated myself and was ashamed of myself," he said, and there are still painful memories "that I will carry to my death."

As part of his sentence, Nader will pay $150,000 to the victim, who told the court that the abuse forced him to drop out of school and that he spent his savings to fly to the US to help the FBI.

In asking the judge to stick to the 10-year sentence, Nader's lawyers said there is "a real fear that he will not outlive the sentence" because of his health problems and the coronavirus pandemic. They also touted his extensive resumé and diplomatic efforts in the Middle East.

Nader spoke briefly during the hearing and asked for forgiveness. He said he offered his "greatest, sincere apology" and that he was "dearly, deeply sorry for the pain and suffering I have caused." He also said the past year living in jail was "the most difficult of my life."

"The only human relationship I have here is with my attorney and some other inmates and guards in the jail," Nader said, adding that most of his relatives are in his native Lebanon.

He has been housed at the jail in Alexandria, Virginia, but will likely be transferred to a federal prison at some point soon.

Does anyone else look at these admittedly powerful The Lincoln Project ads and wonder if they are the neocons looking to dump Trump at the GOP convention and run one of their own?

Why are Democrats falling over themselves to praise The Lincoln Project?

Why can't the Democrats (admittedly I am a life long registered and voting member of the Democratic Party however cynical) make equally powerful ads?

Why is it not equally obvious that the "non Trump" GOP are just looking to position themselves for after the disaster that is Trump and will pivot and stab the Democrats in the back as soon as Trump is dislodged?

Bounty or not, Russian bounties do not appear to have had any major impact.

Isn't this (financial support to proxies) business as usual and something the USA does as well?

That said I do not dismiss Trump reading PDBs, ignoring the intelligence and sniffing Putin's anus.

Why is it not equally obvious that you're musing about the kayfabe of politics without acknowledging that it's kayfabe (that all the parties (people) you mention are scratching each other's backs to remain in positions of influence) and that in reality the voters are just stabbing themselves in the back merely by voting?

Even if Trump has gone off script or is really crossing everyone else (which'd be ironic because that would make his supporters as correct as his distractors), that this thing is by design, or by default systemic, or both, should not even remotely be a radical notion at RI, I wouldn't think.

I mean, yes, based upon your assumption, of course the Dems are stabbing themselves in the back, but that's their function if not their job. Right down to the well-educated and steadily engaged Democratic voter who watches the news and stays abreast of everything, they are forever in a state of rehabilitating yesterday's Satan to rally the base against the new Anti-Christ. This is precisely why it is not absurd to view whoever the D nominee for president as the greater of two evils. Because in the long run, they are the one's sustaining it.

Well, in the last two days we've got the Russian murder bounty story and Trump retweeting someone shouting "White Power," and the news consensus is accepting the story that Trump is just lazy and stupid and didn't know what was going on, rather than being an actor in the events of his administration. Has the media ever worked so hard to provide a president with 'plausible deniability?'

Who's got the juice on this Russian bounty-paying story? I'm more than skeptical.

NPR had a guy on (edit: a GOP Congressman) saying that one of the intel agencies (a "more technological" one) was calling BS.

Funny now how liberals by & large are trained to love & believe what "the intelligence agencies" say, because Trump.

I got that rap the other day when I expressed doubts; "but the intel agencies agree...oh and UK agrees." Must be true then!

Get me Pompeo on the phone.

The usual.

Jonathan Cook

Here's the playbook: US spooks 'brief' the NYT with a story designed to damage an official enemy (Russia). Other papers seek out the same spooks, then claim to have 'confirmed' the NYT story.

Servile, bogus journalism - happened with Iraq, happening now

Besides, an occupying army are legitimate targets under international law. And let's face it, this is nothing new:

"Max Blumenthal

Here’s Dan Rather doing a 1980 report appealing for more US covert arms shipments and funding (bounties?) for Islamist militants to kill Russian soldiers in Afghanistan. The irony of the freak out over the CIA-manufactured #BountyGate can’t be understated.

Isn't this a coincidence. The USA is finally in talks (after 20 years of war!) to leave Afghanistan. And Trump had plans to pull troops out by November and then BAM! all of a sudden the Pentagon and CIA come up with another RUSSIAN conspiracy! Wow. So, I guess this means 20 more years of war. Great! Yeah that's totally not the military industrial complex.

Thank you for explaining my points and excuse me for not using the term kayfabe.

Not hard at all to conclude that the Democratic Party cleans up the messes, passes GOP originated policy, and stabilizes the economy and foreign affairs than the GOP parties on rinse and repeat.

Voting is now meaningless in the American Republic. The media is grooming and chaos. Trump is a standing joke.

So whooptie-shit. The lesser of two evils is still evil. And its obvious the corporate statist elites have marginalized third party candidates as burlesque. The real travesty here is the misdirection of the working class into menial labor to draw them away from organizing efforts towards a peaceful existence. There's also the 'keep them dumb and make the feel powerless' confederacy that the 1% burden the lower class with. Its all conjecture anyhow. Until we do these things and remove the oligarchs and throw ourselves on the gears of this heartless war machine our lives will suck.
