Ya, hey! So what do you think of the upper-midwest, "Fargo" accent then? Do you like the sound of it, or no?

I didn't know it was a thing until people started pointing it out to me when I lived in Kansas for a year.

By the way, if I hear "You Go Girl!" one more time, I'm gonna...grit my teeth.

I've never watched Fargo ( film or tv ) but I see Ewan McGregor is in it so maybe he needs a speech consultant :thumbsup Anyway I'm sure it's delightful ! the grating accents are usually the urban ones that originated in the industrial revolution - they can be pretty ugly on the ear & tend to be quick-fire & aggressive. There's a Manchester one that's pretty horrible ( eg Liam Gallagher of Oasis ). Birmingham aswell. Belfast in Northern Ireland is pretty grating whilst Dublin Irish is lilting & lovely to listen to. The Boston Brahmin thing I saw Gore Vidal on a chat show once where he reckoned their somewhat strangulated speech was an upper class thing - that it was vulgar to show the inside of your mouth ! I like hearing the accent. It's not one commonly heard here. The fx TV series looks more 'exciting' than the movie, but I suppose that's to be expected from a series.
