Reddit has banned the QAnon conspiracy subreddit r/GreatAwakening

Reddit has banned its subreddit devoted to QAnon conspiracy theories, stating that it violated rules against “inciting violence, harassment, and the dissemination of personal information.” NBC News reporter Brandy Zadrozny tweeted about the ban of r/GreatAwakening earlier today. It’s the second high-profile purge of a QAnon subreddit — a board called r/CBTS_stream was banned in March for repeatedly violating Reddit guidelines. Some of the subreddit’s users have regrouped on Reddit clone Voat, which takes a more hands-off approach to moderation.

The QAnon conspiracy theory, which is based around cryptic internet comments from an anonymous poster known as “Q,” began on 4chan and 8chan but has incubated on Reddit. (A Vox analysis found user overlap with pro-Trump subreddits and more general conspiracy subreddits, among other boards.) It’s a fringe conspiracy theory, but it has a few high-profile supporters like Roseanne Barr, and its adherents have made real-life appearances at Trump rallies. One apparent QAnon proponent was arrested after blocking the Hoover Dam in June.

We’re not sure exactly what was behind today’s ban of r/GreatAwakening, as well as the QAnon backup subreddits r/The_GreatAwakening and r/thegreatawakening, both of which were apparently shut down for inciting harassment. However, it comes just a day after Reddit banned the popular “Million Dollar Extreme” subreddit for inciting violence. Reddit has previously banned the thematically related Pizzagate conspiracy subreddit. And The New York Times Magazine published an article about QAnon yesterday, which may have put extra focus on r/GreatAwakening — although QAnon has gotten plenty of media coverage already.

There's information on the flip side of this map though. No, you won't find a scan of it on internet, don't bother looking.

Reminds me of that nazi from Indiana Jones with one side of the medallion burned into his hand. You ain't going to find the ark that way.

Both his words and manner of speech seemed at first totally unfamiliar to me, and yet somehow they stirred memories - as an actor might be stirred by the forgotten lines of some role he had played far away and long ago.

Bannedit? Two days after banning alt-right MillionDollarExtreme subreddit, Reddit nukes its QAnon forum

Whatever the motive, the bans have left noted MGTOW philosopher BitchesBHating worried that we are entering dark times indeed.

Trump’s Prophets: Satan and ‘the Wicked Witch of the East’ Are Driving Kavanaugh Opposition

Image

Among President Trump’s most ardent Religious Right supporters is a group of self-declared prophets and apostles who make up the POTUS Shield network, which former Trump campaign adviser Frank Amedia says was organized at God’s direction in the wee hours after Trump’s election. Last night, POTUS Shield held a call for its “prayer warriors” to address a series of urgent topics, described in texting shorthand as “SIEGE ON KAVANAUGH ELECTIONS DEEP STATE.”

On the hour-long call, which Amedia said attracted “thousands” of people, he declared that “Satan himself,” the “commander-in-chief of the evil kingdom,” is orchestrating the opposition to Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation. “It’s evil against good,” he said, with the survival of the nation at stake.

Amedia said he had received a thank-you call that morning from Vice President Pence’s staff. “We’re both a shield and a spear,” he said, that goes on offense as well as defense.

Amedia previously organized 24-hour prayer watches for the Kavanaugh nomination, divided into eight three-hour shifts. He said on Tuesday night’s call that they’ve “seen shifts” in the news based on the assignments given to prayer groups.

The “transformation of the Supreme Court” was one of the “primary assignments” that Amedia says God gave him the morning after the election. He said God told him that there would be three changes on the court “in the first season” of Trump’s presidency. Amedia noted that the group has been praying about Justice Sonya Sotomayor by name—that she would repent or be removed—and, he said, “most of you know throughout this year she’s had a rough year.”

“We are not wishy-washy Christians,” Amedia said. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, “needs healing and deliverance,” he said, but she deserves no pity because “she is a false witness.” All of the witnesses against Kavanaugh, he said, are false.

“Last night the Lord had me praying multiple times that [attorney Michael] Avenatti would step in his own snare, and in his own trap, and he would spew and eat his own vomit,” said Amedia.

Next up was Cindy Jacobs, who said her “prayer generals” are currently gathered at her Dallas “prayer mountain.” She said she has been surprised at the number of young people having dreams, including one which featured a monster with blood dripping out of its mouth over the Supreme Court. Jacobs identified the monster as Moloch, an ancient God associated in the Bible with child sacrifice.

She referred to Rise Up, a rally on the national mall that Jacobs hosted with Lou Engle in 2017, at which anti-abortion leaders prayed that God would open more vacancies on the Supreme Court. On the POTUS Shield call, Jacobs agreed that there would soon be a third new Supreme Court justice, and that “God is preparing a woman” to fill the vacancy.

She prayed to break curses against the Supreme Court. “We bind, muzzle and gag anyone” who is not of God from testifying against Kavanaugh. Then she declared, “Oh! I just felt something break in the heavens.”

Amedia then turned to Herman Martir, who organized Asian Americans for Trump during the presidential campaign. Martir said that Asian Americans can become a swing vote in key races in 2018, which he said “can determine the future of America.” Martir led prayer for Senate and House races; among those he prayed for by name were Ted Cruz and Corey Stewart, the Republicans’ neo-Confederate Senate candidate in Virginia. Martir prayed that God would influence the hearts of voters, that there will be “an army that will mobilize millions and millions of voters that they will vote this coming November elections for righteousness and justice.”

Getting back to the Kavanaugh nomination, Martir prayed that Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley would “not be intimidated.”

Amedia echoed Martir, asking God to galvanize Grassley and Senate Majority Mitch McConnell so that they would not be moved from their steadfast support for Kavanaugh, and to strengthen Susan Collins “not to let her cave in,” along with Sens. Flake and Murkowski. He asked God to “put upon [the] hearts” of Democratic senators Joe Donnelly, Heidi Heitkamp and Joe Manchin to break ranks with other Democrats and “join Your ranks.”

Next up was Jerry Boykin, executive vice president of the Family Research Council, who mentioned having dinner with McConnell last Thursday night, the day before McConnell spoke at FRC’s Values Voter Summit. He said McConnell promised that Kavanaugh will be confirmed; Boykin warned that Republicans will lose the House and Senate if Kavanaugh is not confirmed. Conservatives, he said, should insist that the burden of proof is on Kavanaugh’s accusers.

Boykin slammed the “deep state” and “resistance movement”—“a diabolical movement as far as I’m concerned”—that is “motivated by the forces of evil” and is “melting down” after having had their way for eight years. He went on to call Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein a “classical example of the deep state” and predicted that he will be fired after the election. He also said Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made a mistake in saying that there is no deep state in the State Department, which Boykin said may in fact be the worst place of all.

“We need to quit worrying about God being displeased with us praying against our enemies,” said Boykin. There are “an awful a lot of Christians that think we oughta just love our enemies,” he said. “Well, there comes a point where we need to take ‘em on. We need to be aggressive.” We need to pray, he said, “that God will humiliate them, because they are guided by evil.”

Boykin prayed that former FBI Director James Comey and special counsel Robert Mueller “will absolutely be exposed as the phonies they are.”

Amedia asked someone he referred to as “Prophet Patty” to lead a prayer on the points Boykin made. She prayed that God would remove the protection around Mueller that, she said, “is coming from a hierarchy and from a principality,” and prayed that God would “strip him of his power.”

“We thank you that this witch hunt is over,” she prayed. “We bind every form of witchcraft, every sorcery spirit, every powerful force that would try, of spiritual wickedness in high places. … We hold this shield up, we clean out the deep state, and we call for this thing to come to an end, in Jesus’ name.”

Mark Gonzales, founder of the U.S. Hispanic Prayer Network and the U.S. Hispanic Action Network, then prayed for key Senate races, saying he’s doing six to eight presentations a day to mobilize pastors and churches.

“We wanna keep the House,” he said, “but we definitely need to keep the Senate, because this is what’s going to give us the courts, and this is how we overturn Roe v. Wade” and marriage equality.

The races are tight, he said, and will be decided by turnout. The lower turnout in the midterm elections is an opportunity, he said, adding that “if the church engages, our candidates win.”

Gonzales prayed against apathy in the church, asking that God would release his power over pastors so that they would rise up as they did during the Revolutionary War.

“We need to vote biblical values,” he said. “We’re gonna have to convert a praying church into a voting church,” he said, “and if we do this, we can take back America, we can take back our states, we can take back our nation.”

Gonzales prayed that the church would act to keep “the right candidates” in power so that they can continue to “advance the kingdom of God into government and into the Supreme Court, that you may be glorified, God, in our nation.”

Alveda King prayed that record numbers of voters would come out of the church. She said she believed that “the wicked witch of the East” is “driving and controlling a lot of this.” She prayed that God would “bind that spirit of witchcraft” and “cancel those demonic contracts” and throw confusion into the enemy’s camp.

King recounted the biblical story of Paul, who, as soldiers were preparing to beat him, asked if it were legal for them to do that to a Roman citizen who had not been condemned. Asked King, “So is it permitted and legal in America to take a man like Judge Kavanaugh and lynch him?”

“He is not condemned,” she said, “Nothing has been proven. … It is an illegal action and we bind it and curse it and cancel it in the name of Jesus.”

As the call came to a close, Jacobs declared that “these prayers are just going to be like arrows.”

Liz Crokin: Kavanaugh’s Confirmation Is the Final Step Before Mass Arrests and Military Tribunals

By Kyle Mantyla | September 27, 2018 9:55 am

Right-wing “journalist” and fringe conspiracy theorist Liz Crokin posted a video on YouTube yesterday in which she claimed that Democrats are desperately trying to keep Brett Kavanaugh off the Supreme Court because they know that if he is confirmed, that will be the final step before the mass arrests and military tribunals begin.

“They know what’s coming,” Crokin said. “The deep state, the globalists, the cabal members, they know they’re screwed, they know what crimes they have committed.”

Echoing the claims of so-called “firefighter prophet” Mark Taylor, Crokin asserted that the late Sen. John McCain did not die of brain cancer, but was actually executed by a secret military tribunal for treason.

“John McCain never had cancer,” she declared, incredulously. “He didn’t die a natural death or death from brain cancer. The man was tried in a private military tribunal and he was killed for treason. And from what I am hearing and from what I am researching, he sang; he sang like a canary and gave up the goods on other people.”

“It was so obvious he didn’t have brain cancer,” she said. “Give me a break.”

Crokin claimed that members of the deep state know that Trump is coming after them and are now working to ensure that when they are arrested and prosecuted, they will be tried in court, where they might have a chance of getting off on a technicality, instead of before a military tribunal and that is why they are going all out to defeat Kavanaugh.

“The military isn’t going to let any of these scumbags who were involved in raping children and trafficking children get off on a frickin technicality,” she said. “They’re screwed. They know it. And the bottom line with Judge Kavanaugh is, once he is confirmed, it’s over. He is the final nail in the coffin that needs to happen to lead us into mass arrests and then the military tribunals.”

QAnon Adherents Cry ‘False Flag’ About Explosive Found Near George Soros’ Home

Supporters of an unhinged conspiracy theory have another unhinged conspiracy theory.

By Sebastian Murdock

Conspiracy theorists who believe George Soros is behind many of the imagined machinations of the “deep state” have doubled down on targeting him for blame following an apparent attempt to harm the billionaire philanthropist and liberal activist.

Authorities on Monday responded to Soros’ suburban New York home after one of his employees discovered in the property’s mailbox a package with an explosive device. The device contained powder and was “not a hoax,” a law enforcement official told The Associated Press.

But believers in the right-wing conspiracy QAnon blame Soros for the device, flocking to Twitter, 4chan boards and the primarily alt-right website Gab to promote that assertion without any evidence.

Blazing hot takes on mail bombs from the #MAGA crowd

Yes, they’re already starting to make NPC memes about it

Most of the devoted MAGAheads seem to be going with the claim that this was all a “false flag” by the Dems — possibly paid for by George Soros, who was himself targeted with a mail bomb only a few days ago.

Liz Crokin: Bombs Sent to Democrats May Have Been ‘A White Hat Operation’

By Kyle Mantyla | October 29, 2018 10:37 am

Like just about everyone else in MAGA world, right-wing “journalist” and fringe conspiracy theorist Liz Crokin spent most of last week insisting that the spate of bombs that had been mailed to prominent Democrats was nothing but a “false flag” effort designed to damage Republicans just before the midterm elections.

When the suspect who was arrested last Friday turned out to be an almost cartoonishly die-hard Trump supporter and MAGA world responded by doubling down on the belief that the entire thing was an obvious set-up, Crokin took a slightly different track, arguing that this “false flag” operation was so laughably obvious that it might actually have been “a white hat operation.”

During an appearance on “The SGT Report” on Friday, Crokin suggested that the rash of mail bombs may have been nothing more than a brilliant cover story designed to give the military time to get in place to carry out the coming wave of mass arrests (Crokin is convinced that President Trump will soon begin to round up thousands of political, business, and entertainment industry leaders for their supposed involvement in “the rape, torture and sacrifice of children.”)

“Their false flags are getting so poorly orchestrated and executed that part of me wonders if this is a white hat operation,” she said. “This is a white hat operation to get the National Guard and the military in the major cities, to not raise too many red flags and not to cause too much chaos and too much concern to prepare people for the mass arrests.”

“If this truly is a deep state false flag, it is so poorly done,” Crokin added, “it’s so hard for me to believe that they’re that stupid … The whole narrative is falling apart before it even started and part of me just can’t believe these people are that stupid.”

Twilight of the Racist Uncles

How Facebook is melting the minds of our elders

The Baffler

A
C
T

Y

THERE IS A FAMILY FRIEND, a man I’ve known for decades. A highly educated man with total financial security in his recent retirement. A man who always had a good story to tell or an interesting side of a conversation to hold up. Then, a few years ago, he got on Facebook. Reading his timeline became an exercise in watching a man’s descent into madness. Over the summer I was surprised to learn that he had purchased three very expensive AR-15 semiautomatic rifles. When I asked why, he said, “For the race war that’s coming” in a tone that suggested no further explanation would be necessary.

If you are under the age of fifty, the odds are that you have at least one older person in your life who has gone down this road in the last few years. If you are white, I am certain of it. Lamenting our older relatives’ journey down the rabbit hole of right-wing paranoia and vituperation feels, at times, like my generation’s version of having the big talk about putting Nana in a nursing home. “Losing a parent” has dual meanings for us after 2016. We’re dealing with the loss of people who are very much alive—but who have become such chaotic stews of anger, persecution complexes, racism, and half-assed conspiracy theories that they can no longer hold a normal conversation.

Intergenerational tension is hardly new; it dates roughly back to mankind’s mastery of fire. In this case, though, more than a typical generation gap separates us, thanks to a nearly irresistible system designed to draw in old white people and get them hooked on an outrage fix they end up needing every bit as much as their Lipitor.

Though Fox News binging is typically blamed for this phenomenon, viewership data doesn’t support the argument. Fox News tops cable news ratings, but cable news is a small, declining market compared to, say, televised sports, Netflix streaming, or anodyne sitcoms. The number of people sitting saucer-eyed in front of the TV all day watching News Corp render the arts of satire and parody moot is significant in Nielsen terms but quite meager compared to the audience of Monday Night Football.

Spend a full hour reading right-wing Facebook. It is like a funhouse mirror; you’ll feel the what-was-in-those-cookies sense of having entered a fantasy world of grievance and rage.

What has truly fueled the Boomers’ transition from “means well, but sometimes frustrating” to Trumpian insanity is Facebook. There the fix is constant. There all of their worst impulses are collectively reinforced, constantly rewarded, and ceaselessly amplified.

The last generation of Americans who will enjoy anything approaching financial security in old age could spend the Golden Years we’ll never have golfing, going on cruises, driving RVs, or watching The Price is Right. They could choose to be happy, having lived their entire lives in a system from which they extracted every benefit and which they subsequently dismantled at the altar of lower taxes.

Instead, they’re spending their days on a speedball of right-wing propaganda and a platform that gives them an audience of . . . well, everyone. And it turns out that 24-7 access to reinforcement and an unceasing stream of conspiratorial thinking is pushing some of them over the edge.

Spend a full hour reading right-wing Facebook. It is like a funhouse mirror; you’ll feel the what-was-in-those-cookies sense of having entered a fantasy world of grievance and rage—a Lewis Carroll version of The Turner Diaries, a John Birch Society children’s book for sundowning grandpas. It is a barrage of propaganda crafted around the biases of old white people to exploit their deepest racial fears and authoritarian-follower personality traits. Much of it makes Fox News look tame and responsible by comparison. Toy commercials could only dream of reaching kids as effectively as the right-wing noise machine hooks our elders.

Now imagine looking at that for hours per day, every day.

What would be left of your brain after several years of that? Like the president they so blindly love, the brains they once had become a puddle of Cracker Barrel sausage gravy strewn with flotsam and jetsam[*] of the Greatest Hits of the reactionary playbook. These are randomly sampled, irrespective of time, logic, or coherence. Immigrant caravans! Soros! New Black Panthers! Vince Foster! Card Check! Seth Rich! Uranium One! MS-13! Crisis Actors! Anchor babies! Whitewater! Her emails! Cap and Trade! Thugs! Birth Certificate! Every obsession is equally relevant. And the right time to be very, very mad about all of it is right now.

QAnon Conspiracy Theorists Warned That Antifa Would Ruin the Election. Mockery Ensued.

Image

The current idea appears to have gotten its start, at least in part, from Q, the mysterious online figure at the center of the stubbornly persistent QAnon conspiracy theory, which claims that the Mueller investigation is really an effort for President Donald Trump to arrest a vast Democratic pedophile ring. On Sunday, just two days before Election Day, Q warned that antifa could show up to ruin Election Day, writing in one of his or her (or their) regular missives, “If you witness members of ANTIFA or any other people or organizations stationed at ‘key’ voter locations making threats or attempting to use scare tactics [voter intimidation] please contact local authorities immediately and report the incident(s).” It went on to detail how there may be buses dropping off antifa members with a guide, or how there could be “voter prevention” activities afoot, such as odd behavior from officials or faulty voting machines. It urged QAnons to be prepared to take photos and videos of suspicious activity. On Monday, multiple Q followers posted videos to YouTube about the antifa warning. One is 30 minutes long and has racked up nearly 57,000 views. Another, at 19 minutes, has been watched more than 44,000 times.

The same day, a post on the pro-Trump Reddit board The_Donald offered a PSA. “If you see ANTIFA stationed at key voting locations trying to intimidate voters call the authorities,” it read. “Watch for any suspicious activity with staff, officials, machines, unusual groupings of people being dropped off on buses w/guide and/or instructor. See something Say something.” It closely paraphrases the Q post. Redditors seem to be taking it all rather seriously, imploring others to report if they see any problems and offering advice on what to do. “Call the authorities and get photos and video,” one user suggested. “Back all of it up on a PC and then to a thumb drive if you can. Do not keep politically sensitive things in ‘my documents’ or any of the presets and do not rely on the cloud.”

It’s true that the far right does have something to fear from antifa, and not just because some antifa activists have resorted to violence against white supremacists at their demonstrations. People affiliated with the decentralized group have been known to lurk in private alt-right Facebook groups and chatrooms in order to keep tabs on white supremacists. While members of the far right might imagine antifa as their left-wing equivalent, it’s a false equivalency, since antifa isn’t a hate group but rather aims to weaken and disband hate groups. But the idea that it would cause trouble on Election Day is not only inconsistent with its purpose; there’s also been absolutely no evidence that it’s happening.

Right-Wing Conspiracy Theorist Jerome Corsi Expects to Be Indicted in Russia Investigation

Image

“I tried to cooperate for two months with the Mueller investigation, and what I’m gonna get in return is indicted,” Corsi said, appearing chagrined.

“I anticipate being indicted for some form of lying,” he added.

Prosecutors have questioned Corsi about his relationship with Stone, who has partnered with Corsi on right-wing projects in the past. Investigators reportedly pressed Corsi on whether he served as a conduit between Stone and Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks founder who released troves of stolen Democratic emails during the 2016 campaign. Mueller has charged Russian intelligence agents with hacking the emails and sharing them with WikiLeaks.

Corsi seemed to address prosecutors’ interest in his WikiLeaks ties in a strangely worded statement. “To the best of my knowledge I’ve never met Julian Assange,” he said. He also stated that his knowledge of what stolen Democratic emails Assange planned to release came “mostly from open sources.”

NBC News previously reported that Corsi has been questioned by Mueller’s prosecutors about why he would have advance knowledge of emails that WikiLeaks had from Clinton campaign chair John Podesta.

Before the Russia investigation, Corsi was best known for his role with “Swift Boat Veterans for Truth,” a group that falsely attacked the war record of 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, and for pushing birtherism, the false notion that former President Barack Obama was not born in the United States.

Corsi said in his video that Mueller’s prosecutors had caught him in a “perjury trap,” noting they obtained access to his communications and computer, and brought him to Washington three times for six rounds of questioning. He suggested prosecutors had worn him down and then caught him in inconsistencies. “At the end of two months my mind was mush,” Corsi said. He compared prosecutors to “the KGB or Gestapo” and said he “felt like a prisoner in the Korean War.”

“I think my crime really was supporting Donald Trump,” he said. “At any rate, I still support Donald Trump.”
