Gotta love it when they just flat-out say the exact opposite of what happened.

Fauci Exposed: Historical Research of COVID
Analysis by Dr. Joseph Mercola

August 14, 2021

Story at-a-glance

Charles Rixey, a COVID-19 analyst, combed through 100,000 pages of FOIA documents and reviewed more than 1,000 research articles, forming a conclusion over six months of investigation that “one of the worst developments of the pandemic is the evaporation of public trust in scientists”

This erosion of trust came at the hands of “America’s doctor,” Fauci, who sprung to action at the start of the pandemic — not to protect the public, as his duty required, but to protect himself

One of the major pieces of propaganda is "The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2," a paper published in March 2020 that became the preeminent "proof" that SARS-CoV-2 had a natural origin and couldn't possibly have come from a lab; its authors originally stated the virus appeared to be engineered

Rixey reveals that Fauci and colleagues issued a mandate to control the COVID-19 origin narrative February 3, 2020, and scientists got the signal that pursuing the lab-origin theory would result in “career death”

By now, many have heard that the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) — an arm of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) — has funded controversial gain-of-function (GOF) research on bat coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV).

Dr. Anthony Fauci, NIAID director, told a House Appropriations subcommittee that $600,000 was given to the nonprofit EcoHealth Alliance, which funneled the money to WIV over a five-year period for the purpose of studying bat coronaviruses and whether they could be transmitted to humans.1

Fauci has denied funding GOF research, even though evidence shows he did fund it,2 but it goes much deeper than this. Now that it’s been proven beyond a reasonable doubt that SARS-CoV-2 is laboratory derived — the likely result of GOF research — we must look back on Fauci’s early pandemic response under a different lens.

Fauci Censored Science, Stymied Research to Protect Himself

Charles Rixey, a COVID-19 analyst, combed through 100,000 pages of FOIA documents and reviewed more than 1,000 research articles, forming a conclusion over six months of investigation that “one of the worst developments of the pandemic is the evaporation of public trust in scientists.”

This erosion of trust came at the hands of “America’s doctor,” Fauci, who sprang to action at the start of the pandemic — not to protect the public, as his duty required, but to protect himself, Rixey alleges. Rixey wrote on Prometheus Shrugged:

“Fauci quietly but directly ensured that scientific censorship was implemented, in large measure, to prevent public awareness of the extent of his role in GOF research and the controversies surrounding it. The evidence proves that, at the start of the pandemic, Dr. Fauci and many leading scientists moved to protect themselves — not us, who weren’t yet aware of the potential calamity at our doorstep.

Fauci LED the efforts to obstruct research into COVID's origins, colluding with the President's Science Advisor Kelvin Droegemeier and Wellcome Trust head Jeremy Farrar, to proactively undermine consideration of the evidence that directly tied their global research initiatives to the lab at the center of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To date, all of their efforts have been focused on preventing disclosure of embarrassing connections — not preventing another novel pathogen from sparking a global pandemic; to prevent future scrutiny, not future tragedy.”

Fauci Pushes Natural Origin, Despite Evidence of Engineering

One of the major pieces of propaganda is "The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2,"4 a paper published in Nature Medicine in March 2020 that became the preeminent "proof" that SARS-CoV-2 had a natural origin and couldn't possibly have come from a lab.

It was later revealed that Fauci, Farrar and Dr. Francis Collins, NIH director, had a hand in the paper, as one of its authors wrote a March 6, 2020 email to the trio and colleagues, thanking them for their "advice and leadership."

According to Rixey, however, the five editors of the Nature Medicine paper, who he refers to as “the Proximals,” were aware of the existence of a furin cleavage site (FCS) on the virus as early as February 1, 2020, the day a conference call was organized by Farrar and Fauci “to address several aspects of the SARS-CoV-2 genome that pointed towards an artificial origin, by means of generating adaptive changes through passaging and/or direct manipulation of the genome.”5 He adds:6

“Also completely obscured is the fact that at least one, and very likely all, of the people on the conference call were aware of the existence of the FCS … It’s even worse when you consider that 18 months later, they still can’t explain it — the Proximals refuse to respond to the fact that the FCS doesn’t exist within the sarbecovirus sub-genus that SARS-CoV-2 falls under.

This is a problem, because members of the sub-genus are too distinct to recombine with the varieties of SARS-like viruses from other branches that do contain the FCS.”

The FCS is significant. To gain entry into your cells, the virus must first bind to an ACE2 or CD147 receptor on the cell. Next, the S2 spike protein subunit must be proteolytically cleaved (cut). Without this protein cleavage, the virus would simply attach to the receptor and not get any further. “The furin site is why the virus is so transmissible, and why it invades the heart, the brain and the blood vessels,” Dr. Steven Quay explained.7

While furin cleavage sites do exist in other viruses like Ebola, HIV, zika and yellow fever, they’re not naturally found in coronaviruses, which is one reason why researchers have called the furin cleavage site the “smoking gun” that proves SARS-CoV-2 was created in a lab. The entire group of coronaviruses to which SARS-CoV-2 belongs does not contain a single example of a furin cleavage site, Quay said.

Fauci’s Noble Lie

The concept of the noble lie was first described by Plato. It refers to the notion that, in the case of high-status individuals or designated public leaders, it’s acceptable to lie if the lie is made in the interest of the common good.

Fauci’s lying is a prime example of this concept, as his expertise has been held as indisputable by mainstream media since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. He’s been caught lying to both the public and the U.S. Senate on a number of issues, but nothing has been done about it.

Fauci hasn’t acted alone, but he’s been one of the most prominent faces behind what could amount to one of the greatest noble lies of all time.

“The world’s leading experts in virology and public health called attention to a threat by setting the world on fire, rather than themselves — and then blaming us for being too simple to believe their noble lie,” Rixey writes.

2015: Novel Bat SARS-Like Virus Created to Infect Human Cells

Rixey takes readers back to January 31, 2020, when virologist Kristian Andersen — one of the Proximals, whose paper found the virus could not have been created in a lab — emailed Fauci, cc’ing Farrar, stating, "The unusual features of the virus make up a really small part of the genome (<0.1%) so one has to look really closely at all the sequences to see that some of the features (potentially) look engineered."9

This exchange was a precursor to the February 1, 2020 conference call mentioned above. Another big player in the noble lie is Ralph Baric, Ph.D., at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, who developed humanized mice used in GOF research by WIV.10

Baric worked closely with Shi Zhengli, Ph.D., the director of WIV’s Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases, also known as “bat woman,” on research using genetic engineering to create a “new bat SARS-like virus ... that can jump directly from its bat hosts to humans.” According to Peter Gøtzsche with the Institute for Scientific Freedom:11

“Their work focused on enhancing the ability of bat viruses to attack humans so as to ‘examine the emergence potential.’ In 2015, they created a novel virus by taking the backbone of the SARS virus replacing its spike protein with one from another bat virus known as SHC014-CoV.12 This manufactured virus was able to infect a lab culture of cells from the human airways.

They wrote that scientific review panels might deem their research too risky to pursue but argued that it had the potential to prepare for and mitigate future outbreaks. However, the value of gain-of-function studies in preventing the COVID-19 pandemic was negative, as this research highly likely created the pandemic.”

February 3: A Mandate to Control the Narrative Is Issued

Adding to the puzzle, COVID-19 vaccine maker Moderna, together with NIAID, sent mRNA coronavirus vaccine candidates to Baric at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on December 12, 2019 — prior to the pandemic, raising significant red flags.13 Meanwhile, Rixey’s research led him to conclude:14

“The Proximals were gathered by Farrar & Fauci explicitly to compare emerging arguments with what was known of Baric's work, the spectrum of experiments conducted at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”

After the February 1 conference call, a February 3 meeting was held by Fauci, Droegemeier, Chris Hassell, senior science adviser for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and National Academies’ policy director Alexander Pope, during which the “group slapped the table on what the narrative was going to be — not what the science indicated.” Rixey writes:15

“Therefore, the signal was sent to all scientists that pursuing the lab origins angle meant career death (no academy membership), no funding (via Fauci or Ross or Farrar), no publication in the big 4 journals during the historic pandemic (NEJM, Science, The Lancet & Nature [by virtue of their publishing of the tone-setting pieces]), no executive patronage for things like generic drugs, etc.”

Fauci Censors Public GOF Discourse He Called for in 2012

Fauci has long supported controversial GOF research, which he spoke about at a hearing before the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs at the U.S. Senate, held April 26, 2012.16

That year he called for open debate about GOF research and its risks, and a moratorium was placed on U.S.-funded GOF research in October 2014, after a string of concerning events, including publication of controversial GOF studies and high-profile “incidents” at U.S. biocontainment laboratories, led to more than 300 scientists launching a petition calling for an end to gain-of-function research.17

But that moratorium was lifted by the NIH in December 2017,18 without any engagement of the public or the president/representatives they elected. As Rixey notes:19

“The recent Congressional appearances by Fauci, however, have shown that he is willing to drag this fight out forever in defense of his legacy, and many politicians are sympathetic to his plight.

Thus, it’s clear that better questions are needed to build the proper level of awareness amongst the public to the full implications of Fauci’s concerted effort to prevent that same public discourse he claimed to support in 2012.”

Fauci Should ‘Resign Immediately’

“The only proper action for Dr. Fauci to take at this point is to resign immediately,” Rixey writes, “and apologizing for prioritizing the suppression of embarrassing & extensive conflicts of interest, double standards and political decisions masked as sound policy.”20

Along with his resignation, a retraction of “Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2” is called for, as “each of its five authors intentionally framed the COVID origin debate around ‘evidence’ and ‘facts’ that they couldn’t prove, and a finality of their conclusions that the known facts couldn’t justify,” Rixey says.21

Rixey compiled a list of 10 questions he believes should be formally answered by Fauci. Among them are much-needed explanations for apparent subversion, selective inclusion, redactions, diverging narratives and secrecy, including:22

> When did you first learn of the existence of the furin cleavage site within the genome of SARS-CoV-2?

> Why were emails with the topic heading “humanized mice” redacted?

> Why did the world’s leading virologists/microbiologists and top American/U.K. officials refrain from releasing their knowledge of the existence of the FCS when they first learned of it?

“The truth,” Rixey says, “… is that our generation’s most prominent infectious disease expert is gaslighting the citizens of the country he swore an oath to protect.”

I am personally not convinced there is such a thing as a virus. Stephan Lanka's research and deductions on the matter make the most sense to me, at this time, and I don't know how to take in the story line of "lab created viruses" and would hate to dismiss them as more controlled opposition to keep the virus myth alive...
...oh, nevermind. Color me, confused.

Pew research, modern-day alchemists and sorcerers, converting data to digestible, and suggestible, preferred outcomes.

Of course, prevailing conditioning methods increasingly obviate the need for such sorcery.

I personally believe this sentiment, expressed many times, is the core reason alongside his whistle blowing and support for Assange, that Craig Murray is now in jail. I agree with his analysis and look forward to the day it is so.

Knowing that we went to war, deliberately, on the basis of lies, knowing that we were deliberately involved in collusion and torture of innocent individuals abroad, I decided that the only answer to counter the continued violence, the imperialist and aggressive violence of the British state, was to break up the United Kingdom. And that Scottish independence is required, not just for the benefit of the people of Scotland, but for the benefit of the people of the United Kingdom and of the world, because the United Kingdom is a rogue state, a rogue state that needs to be broken up.

From 01:20 onward.

And be loved
In return"

With a “left press” like this, who needs fascist media?

How our “progressive” stars and outlets manage not to say a word about the gravest crisis in the history of humanity

Mark Crispin Miller

It pains me to say it, but Caitlin Johnstone—whose work I used to champion ardently, defending her against the crypto-Stalinists at Counterpunch—is one of many “leftists” who keep partying like it’s 2019.

Same with the interminable Noam Chomsky, The Nation, Consortium News, MoveOn, Popular Resistance, Nation of Change, Covert Action Bulletin, Naomi Klein, Tom Engelhardt and others that I used to champion, and (in some cases) see as friends, as well as outlets that I used to write for.

So Caitlin loves her boomer Dad for his irrepressible outrage over the bombing of Afghanistan, and loves ALL boomers for their fiery dissidence—on issues that don’t matter much at this apocalyptic moment.

From her, and all those other “progressive” voices/outlets, you’d never know that World War III has been raging (openly) since January 2020—a global war against humanity itself.

Someone should tell Caitlin—an Australian!—that those feisty boomers, with some very few exceptions, have turned rigidly authoritarian, and often downright hateful toward the bravest and most necessary dissidents today, standing firm against the bio-fascist mandates of the New World Order, and the looming portents of the Great Reset: dangers that those “leftist” sages never even mention, much less question or confront.

While Caitlin, resident of Melbourne, riffs indignantly about the bombing of Afghanistan back in 19 B.C. (Before COVID), the staunchest dissidents Down Under are the truck drivers threatening to shut that country down, if its cops don’t take their boots off everybody’s necks.

In the midst of this vast slo-mo Holocaust, conducted in the name of “public health” (much as the last one was), we find no reference to it, nor any reference to the unprecedented global wave of censorship on which that Holocaust depends, or to the naked violence of the police throughout the “democratic” West, or to the financial purposes of this whole global nightmare, in any of the “leftist” outlets named above.

Instead, we get “Ban Killer Drones,” “Why US Policy in Nicaragua Isn’t Working,” “America’s Merchants of Death Then and Now” (with no mention of Big Pharma), “Hidden costs of militarism: Climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss,” and (my personal favorite) “Is a Cold War Still Possible in an Overheating World?”

My point is not that such well-worn concerns don’t matter anymore (though some of them were overblown before the COVID crisis), but that they’re now being used by our “left” press to give the misimpression that they’re really on the left — working for peace, freedom, civil rights and economic fairness, always in the interests of the people over all — instead of blinding us to this unprecedented global drive to make those things impossible, and snuff the people out.

“The magnetic power exerted by patently threadbare ideologies is to be explained, beyond psychology, by the objectively determined decay of logical evidence as such. Things have come to a pass where lying sounds like truth, truth like lying. Each statement, each piece of news, each thought has been preformed by the centres of the culture industry.Whatever lacks the familiar trace of such pre-formation lacks credibility, the more so because the institutions of public opinion accompany what they send forth by a thousand factual proofs and all the plausibility that total power can lay hands on. “
Theodor Adorno (Minima Moralia)

“For socially ordained sacrifice is indeed so universal as to be manifest only in society as a whole, and not in the individual. Society has, as it were, assumed the sickness of all individuals, and in it, in the pent-up lunacy of Fascist acts and all their innumerable precursors and mediators, the objective fate buried deep in the individual is integrated with its visible objective counterpart. And how comfortless is the thought that the sickness of the normal does not necessarily imply as its opposite the health of the sick, but that the latter usually only present, in a different way, the same disastrous pattern. “
Theodor Adorno (Minima Moralia)

“Recognition elicits the permanent from the transient.”
Hans-Georg Gadamer (The Relevance of the Beautiful)

“…only the new of which one tires. One never tires of the old.”
Soren Kierkegaard (Repetition)

“The slogan of the First Futurist Manifesto of 1909: ‘War is the world’s only hygiene’ – led directly { } to the shower block of Auschwitz-Birkenau.”
Paul Virillo (Art and Fear)

Today, to read the morning news, from various sources, on various platforms, is to experience a sense of psychic vertigo, almost. It is as the official edicts of the state, of various states (most acutely in the commonwealth countries) are the making literal of what has been, for a half century, metaphorical or symbolic. It is almost like removing the ‘as if’ from any descriptive sentence one can imagine. Australia has made, for example, everyone LITERALLY a prisoner in their own home. The first quote above, from Adorno’s Minima Moralia (and one could almost open that book at random and find relevant passages) was posted on social media by a friend. It is stunningly apt, right now, I think. But it also begs a closer reading of what is meant by the ‘trace’ of pre-formation. One instinctively feels the truth of this statement, but I think it useful to explore further the qualities and characteristics of this pre-formation.

One aspect, or quality, has to do with the voices of mass media. The sound of those who read the news, who pontificate on current affairs, or who literally are news readers and little else. The sound of these voices is replicated in dramatic television and film, too. More, perhaps, in television. The Dick Wolfe franchises, or the Bochco franchises. And on a more prestige level, the Milch franchises. The actors in Bochco’s series always speak with a certain intonation. But its more than that, it is more than simply the sound. It is the attitude or posture behind the sound. Certain actors I have worked with in theatre have done guest spots on Bochco shows, and they appeared out of place. They had been given the parts (I know this) because of family ties, AA friendships, or whatever. These were small guest spots, a one day shoot. They were not ‘Bochco’ actors. They didn’t understand the posture.

Image
Wilhelm Sasnal

And the posture, for lack of a better word just now, is conditional with that of timing. It is that micro anticipation of what is being said. That tiny anticipatory reading is expressed in the body. It is the metaphorical leaning forward. There is a subliminal sense of authority being expressed. And it is no accident most of these shows are cop dramas or court dramas. For this is the stylistic code for institutionally trained speech. It’s not realistic, cops don’t really talk this way, or judges or DA’s. It is the manufacturing of a code for unquestioned confidence and security. It is the voice of security. And this manufactured speech code is duplicated, unconsciously I am sure, by, for example, the White House spokesperson. Jan Psaki could have stepped right out of Law & Order or Hill St. Blues. Or better, out of West Wing. For Aaron Sorkin is the writer for the voice of institutional security. The personal is made institutional in his work. Always. There is also a kind of loss of affect associated with this posture. This is the descendent of the steely eyed loner, the gunfighter who loved his horse more than any woman. In one sense, intimacy is now institutional. One is more intimate with his or her job than with a wife or husband.

There are class markers involved, here, too. The Sorkin style codes are dog whistles for white bourgeois entitlement. But one can hear it in a Samantha Power, for example. One hears it in certain actors, who have an instinctual attitude suited for these franchises. Jeff Daniels has it, naturally. That his work found favor with Noah Baumbach, and James Brooks is not surprising. But then he is a very proficient exemplar of this ‘leaning forward’ speech code. This is a bit generalized, for an actor like Martin Sheen, who has done very good work is not really quite of this type, but he worked well, for probably that reason, as the President in West Wing. Sheen is too method, too animated, his expressions too natural. Now there is a mise en scene involved here, too. The speech quality I am trying to describe is reproduced in editing and even in camera placement. But that would take me too far afield just now. I will only note that the framing for evening news ‘talking heads’, an Anderson Cooper for example (and his speech is both securitized AND patrician) is the exact distance from the camera enshrined as trustworthy. The authoritarian trustworthy. It teeters on unnatural but is read as intimate.

The pre-formation Adorno noted is one that has been decades in the making, in the refining. The news reader, behind a desk, with a certain kind of backdrop and a certain kind of intro score. The formalized informal. The invitation (partial) to be part of the backstage real story is a part of the sense of intimacy that news shows usually exhibit. The breaking of the fourth wall hardly has any meaning today because it is hard to identify where that fourth wall might be, and daily life has taken on qualities of broken fourth walls. Something vaguely hallucinatory in itself.

Byung Chul-Han makes a point in his book about the disappearance of rituals, that smart phones lack that quality of endurance, of self-sameness (yeah, he is a Heidegger student) needed for rituals. But its a valid point, and it touches on something in capitalism itself that tends toward the erosion of ritual. In theatre, itself a sort of ur-ritual, the quality of enduring truth is always being assaulted today. Smart phones are intrinsically about change. About being refreshed. The cyber age is always rebooted. Everything is updated. Its the assumption of starting over all the time.

The growth of a crafts culture, albeit small still, suggests that people long for stuff, things, that are not ‘used up’. The popularity (again relative) of veg-tan leather, for example, with its very slow and gradual darkening and patina speaks to a desire for a past. The rewritten history of today has, unconsciously, torn people from their ownership of their own past. Literally I think people no longer trust what they remember.

The ephemeral nature of the smart phone, all by itself, irrespective of what its being used for, and what the content of its applications might be, reflects a certain loss of permanence in general today. I wrote before about a quality of incompleteness in popular culture (TV shows cancelled mid season, of after one season with the plot left hanging) and the normalizing of advertising interruptions. One is encouraged not to linger. On anything. The digital age is one of anti-meditation, it is also (obviously) one of distraction. People scan rather than look. The internet is prone to fragmenting everything, but especially reading. I feel it all the time in myself. The idea of popularity feeds into this from a lateral perspective. So entrenched is the idea of popularity that it passes largely unnoticed today. Thirty years ago, or forty maybe, there was a marketing of the idea of popularity — that box office numbers were markers for what was good or bad. These were still pre-internet generations and they still brought with them a sense of quality that was, ideally, independent of consumption metrics. But by the start of the 21st century that marketing was no longer necessary. The public was far less heterogeneous and also had internalized the rhythms and sounds of an ever more uniform mass culture.

“Neoliberalism often makes use of morality for its own ends.Moral values are consumed as marks of distinction. They are credited to the ego-account, appreciating the value of self. They increase our narcissistic self-respect.Through values we relate not to community but to our own egos.”
Byung Chul-Han (The Disappearance of Rituals)

The entire Covid narrative is flush with consumable morality. Now Byung Chul-Han writes about the loss of focused attention. And he’s right. He confuses how people take in narrative, however.

“Symbolic perception is gradually being replaced by a serial perception that is incapable of producing the experience of duration. Serial perception, the constant registering of the new, does not linger. Rather, it rushes from one piece of information to the next, from one experience to the next, from one sensation to the next, without ever coming to closure.”
Bynung Chul-Han (Ibid)

But in the next sentence he suggests binge watching and the popularity of mini series, or as they are now called, ‘limited series’, are examples of serial perception. And that’s not quite right. The expanded narratives of the limited series is actually a relief from the usual weekly installment of episodes over the course of a ‘season’. THAT is serial perception, the episodic becomes a kind of form, then. The appeal of binge watching is that is allows for uninterrupted viewing. Uninterrupted by advertising, even. And the episodic form recedes. The expanded narratives feel almost like a salve, in fact. A mental balm. There are limits of course, and there are few actual narratives on offer, but there are some. (BBCs The Terror was one, a markedly unusual narrative, one in which the tensions were never artificial. Note also the terrific cast, especially Adam Nagaitis and Jared Harris).

But we are tweezing apart aspects of mass entertainment here. But it is worth noting a performance like that of Adam Nagaitis, who was trained both at RADA and at Stella Adler’s conservatory, as unusual. For this sound I am describing as the speech sound of security — or the speech act, predominates. And here one could probably break down what I suspect are the compression of sounds in certain actors speech. (for example the word six has four sounds, but most would perhaps quickly answer that it has three sounds. But its really four…SICK…with an ‘sss’ at the end). There is a marked tendency for Hollywood cop franchises to use actors (this is likely entirely unconscious and instinctive on the part of casting directors) who compress the sounds, especially at the start of a word or sentence. I can’t really offer evidence of this, but watch a Dick Wolfe show like, say, Chicago P.D. or one of the other Chicago trio, like Chicago Med, and see if you don’t notice this anticipatory compression at the start of a character’s dialogue. Ok, I digress a bit. The issue is more with the entirety of influence that mass culture has had on, well, everything. And during the current crisis of the manufactured pandemic, we see the securitizing qualities of entertainment and its assault on art and culture.

“…everything which causes repetition to vary seems to us to cover or hide it at the same time. Here again, we do not reach a concept of repetition. By contrast, might we not form such a concept once we realize that variation is not added to repetition in order to hide it, but is rather its condition or constitutive element, the inferiority of repetition par excellence?”
Gilles Deleuze (Difference and Repetition)

Now Deleuze notes also how disguise and displacement are a part of repetition, and of difference. That quite possibly there is no one thing that is repeated. As Godard once said, in conversation (and which I quote rather often)…”It’s all the same, just a little bit different”. But this has important implications. For what this pandemic has shown is that the contemporary world exists in a matrix of concentric circles of reality. The constant production of propaganda is, or rather, has become deceptive. There is propaganda meant to be read AS propaganda. And there are actually several kinds of this overt propaganda. One is the false flag propaganda, the creation of videos and memes and tweets that pretend to criticize, that purport to strip the veil away from the manufactured story of the state (and NGOs and influencers et al) to reveal the truth. But they are actually, often, anti communist, anti semitic, and covertly pro capitalist. There is another variety of overt propaganda that is obviously inept. It is clearly misstating or misquoting. It is ammunition for the true believers. Now its an open question who exactly produces this stuff. But then there is the sincere propaganda of expert authority. The appeal to science. But only to an approved voice of science. Dissident science is to be aggressively attacked and shamed, to be ridiculed more harshly than any lay opinion.

The experience for the public is disruptive because these things can be experienced as if looking through a telephoto lens. One can focus where one likes. One can change focus. One can do this constantly...

Craig’s Speech at the 2021 Alba conference (read by Nadira Murray)
by Craig Murray Justice Campaign, 11 September 2021

11/09/2021 Greenock, Scotland

Today, Craig Murray‘s wife Nadira (and their son Cameron) delivered a powerful, moving, and thoughtful speech by Craig to the Alba Party conference membership:

“I had intended to speak in person, but have been unavoidably detained. It is really not very pleasant to be locked in a small cell for over 22 hours a day. However, I have this consolation: however many months they keep me in here, I am most unlikely to miss any progress on the SNP’s eleven-point plan for independence.I am proud to be a founder member of Alba. Alba is now the only mass membership party in Scotland which is an independence party and not a devolutionist party. The Scots are a people with the inalienable right of self-determination under the UN Charter. There is no Westminster law and no London-based court which can constrain that right. It is for us, and us alone, to decide how to assert our independence. The time for that is upon us.

I believe Alba will be a truly radical party. I hope it will return the land of Scotland to its common people. The current so-called “land reform” is a disgrace. It has paid millions of pounds to the Duke of Buccleuch for marginal land for which he had little use.

Real land reform will give land to the people without rewarding those whose ancestors stole it in the first place.

Now, we do not all agree on everything. I have a very different view to most Alba members on how to reconcile the social trend away from binary and rigid gender distinctions, with protection of women’s rights.

But if any two people agree on absolutely everything, one of them is not thinking. Good and well-motivated people may sincerely hold different policy views. The very notions of respect for dissident opinion and freedom of speech are under sustained attack.

No member of any political party should face insult, abuse and threats for holding a position different to the leader. That the SNP has forgotten this is what brings most of you here.

To move forward together to independence does not mean we have to march in goose step. The ability of the Scottish Government to employ the police and Crown Office to pursue political vendettas is a major constitutional flaw. Their willingness to do so is a black page in Scottish history.

How scared of ideas do you have to be before you start imprisoning writers? My being here is not a demonstration of the strength of the Scottish Establishment. It is a sign of its weakness.

Alba needs to be not just a breath of fresh air, but a strong blast. The attempt to hijack popular support for independence to quite other ends will be blown away.

It is for us to take up the banner of national freedom for Scotland’s people. We shall not fail.”

UK's Jewish Chronicle must be the archetype of old-school professional propaganda, blatent lying for immediate political ends.

Jewish Chronicle’s libel payouts were a small price to pay for smearing Corbyn and the left

Jonathan Cook, 1 September 2021

The Jewish Chronicle, a weekly newspaper that was saved from liquidation last year by a consortium led by a former senior adviser to Theresa May, has been exposed as having a quite astonishing record of journalistic failings.

Over the past three years, the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO), the misnamed and feeble “press regulator” created by the billionaire-owned corporate media, has found the paper to have breached its code of practice on at least 28 occasions. The weekly has also lost, or been forced to settle, at least four libel cases over the same period.

According to Brian Cathcart, a professor of journalism at Kingston University in London, that means one in every four or five editions of the Chronicle has broken either the law or the IPSO code. He describes that, rather generously, as a “collapse of journalistic standards” at the paper.

IPSO, led by Lord Edward Faulks, a former Conservative minister, has repeatedly failed to launch any kind of formal investigation into this long-term pattern of rule and law-breaking by the Jewish Chronicle. He has also dragged his feet in responding to calls from a group of nine individuals maligned by the paper that IPSO urgently needs to carry out an inquiry into the paper’s editorial standards.

Consequently, IPSO has left itself in no position to take action against the paper, even assuming it wished to. The “press regulator” has not fined the Chronicle – one of its powers – or imposed any other kind of sanction. It has not insisted on special training to end the Chronicle’s systematic editorial failings. And the paper’s editor, Stephen Pollard, has remained in place.

And here one needs to ask why.

Holding the line

Cathcart’s main explanation is that IPSO, as the creature of the billionaire press, is there to “handle” complaints – in the sense of making them go away – rather than seriously hold the media to account or punish its transgressions.

IPSO has never fined or sanctioned any of its member publications since it was created seven years ago by the owners of the corporate media to avoid the establishment of a proper regulatory body in the wake of the Levenson public inquiry into media abuses such as the phone hacking scandal.

The bar for launching an investigation by IPSO was intentionally set so high – failings must be shown to be “serious and systematic” – that the “press regulator” and its corporate media backers assumed they would plausibly be able to argue that no paper ever reached it.

The Chronicle has put even this sham form of regulation to the severest test.

Cathcart argues that IPSO’s job has been to hold the line. If it tackled the Jewish Chronicle for its serial deceptions and character assassinations, it would risk paving the way to similar sanctions being imposed on Rupert Murdoch’s titles.

Attack dog

But there is an additional reason why IPSO is so loath to crack down on the Chronicle’s systematic editorial failings. And that is because, from the point of view of the British establishment, those failings were necessary and encouraged.

It is important to highlight the context for the Chronicle’s egregious transgressions of the editors’ code of practice and libel laws. Those fabrications and deceptions were needed because they lay at the heart of the establishment’s campaign to be rid of former Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn.

The Jewish Chronicle served as the chief attack dog on Corbyn and the Labour left, in service of an establishment represented by the Conservative party and the long-dominant right wing of the Labour party.

Whereas the rest of the corporate media tried to discredit Corbyn and the Labour left with a range of early, lamentable claims – that he was scruffy, unpatriotic, sexist, a national security threat, a former Soviet spy – the Jewish Chronicle’s task was more complicated but far more effective.

The paper’s role was to breathe life into the claim that Corbyn and his supporters were anti-semites, and the paper managed it by maliciously conflating antisemitism and the left’s criticisms of Israel as a racist, apartheid state that oppresses Palestinians.

[urlhttps://twitter.com/Jonathan_K_Cook/status/1349709480326475781] My latest: A new report by human rights group B'Tselem calling Israel an apartheid state will make it harder to smear Israel's critics as antisemites for arguing that the Jewish state is a racist endeavour https://t.co/ubVRYd3nhj

— Jonathan Cook (@Jonathan_K_Cook) January 14, 2021[/url]

Confess or you’re guilty

The Chronicle’s job was to initiate the antisemitism libels and lies against Corbyn and his followers that served to feed and rationalise the fears of prominent sections of the Jewish community. Those fears could then be cited by the rest of the corporate media as evidence that Labour was riding roughshod over the Jewish community’s “sensitivities”. And in turn the Labour left’s supposed indifference to Jewish sensitivities could be attributed to its rampant antisemitism.

It culminated in the McCarthyite claim – now being enforced by Corbyn’s successor as Labour leader, Keir Starmer – that to deny Labour has some especial antisemitism problem, separate from that found more generally in British society, is itself proof of antisemitism. Once accused of antisemitism, as the Labour left endlessly is, one is guilty by definition – the choice is either to confess to antisemitism or be proven an antisemite by denying the accusation.

Like a victim caught in quicksand, the more vigorously the Labour left has rejected claims that the party is riddled with antisemitism the more it has sunk into the mire created by the Jewish Chronicle and others.

It is therefore hardly surprising that so many victims of the Chronicle’s libels and code violations are Corbyn supporters targeted in the antisemitism witch-hunt. Without these deceptions, the antisemitism claims against the Labour party would have looked even more preposterous than they did to anyone familiar with the evidence.

False accusations

For those interested, here are those four recent libel cases that went against the Chronicle:

September 2019: “The Jewish Chronicle has paid out £50,000 in libel damages to a UK charity [Interpal] that provides aid to Palestinians after wrongly linking it to terrorism.”

February 2020: “The libel settlement comes after a UK press regulator in December ruled that the paper’s four articles about [Labour activist Audrey] White had been ‘significantly misleading’ and that the paper had engaged in ‘unacceptable’ obstruction of their investigation.”

October 2020: “Nada al Sanjari, a school teacher and Labour councillor, was the subject of a number of articles published by the newspaper in 2019 that claimed she was one of several Momentum activists responsible for inviting another activist who the Jewish Chronicle characterised as anti-Semitic to a Labour Party event.”

July 2021: “The publication falsely accused [Marc] Wadsworth, in an article on its website in March, of being part of a group of current and ex-Labour members targeting Jewish activists in the party.”

It is not hard to spot the theme of all these smears, and many others, which suggest that those in solidarity with Palestinians under Israeli oppression, including Jews, are antisemites or guilty of supporting terrorism.

Saved from liquidation

Remember, the 28 IPSO code violations – media euphemism for fabrications and deceptions – are only the tip of the iceberg. It is almost certain that many of those maligned by the Chronicle did not have the time, energy or resources to pursue the weekly paper either through the pointless IPSO “regulation” process or through extremely costly law courts.

And remember too that IPSO found against the Chronicle for breaching its code at least 28 times, even though that code was designed to give IPSO’s member publications every possible benefit of the doubt. IPSO has no incentive to highlight its members’ failings, especially when it was set up to provide the government with a pretext for not creating a truly independent regulatory body.

The reality is that the 180-year-old Jewish Chronicle, or JC as it has remodelled itself, would have gone out of business some time ago had it not been twice saved from liquidation by powerful, establishment figures.

It avoided closure in 2019 after it was bailed out by “community-minded individuals, families and charitable trusts” following massive losses. The identities of those donors were not disclosed.

At the time Stephen Pollard highlighted his paper’s crucial role: “There’s certainly been a huge need for the journalism that the JC does in especially looking at the anti-Semitism in the Labour party and elsewhere.”

Consortium of investors

Then only a year later the Chronicle had to be rescued again, this time by a shadowy consortium of investors who promised to pump in millions to keep the paper afloat and reimburse those who had donated the previous year.

Why these financiers appear so committed to a paper with proven systematic editorial failings, and which continues to be headed by the same editor who has overseen those serious failings for years, was underscored at the time by Alan Jacobs, the paper’s departing chairman.

He observed that the donors who bailed out the paper in 2019 “can be proud that their combined generosity allowed the JC to survive long enough to help to see off Jeremy Corbyn and friends, one of the greatest threats to face British Jewry in the JC’s existence.”

Corbyn had lost the general election to a Conservative party led by Boris Johnson later that same year.

The public face of last year’s consortium was Sir Robbie Gibb, a former BBC executive and a longtime ally of figures on the Conservative right. He served as Theresa May’s spin doctor when she was prime minister. He was also an early adviser to GB News, a recent attempt to replicate the overtly rightwing Fox News channel in the UK.

Other visible consortium members are associated with the antisemitism campaign against Corbyn. They include former rightwing Labour MP John Woodcock, who cited antisemitism as his reason for quitting the party after it had begun investigating him for sending inappropriate messages to a female staff member.

Another is Jonathan Sacerdoti, a regular “analyst” on the BBC, ITV and Ch4 who previously served as a spokesperson for the Campaign Against Antisemitism, a lobby group set up back in 2014 specifically to discredit critics of Israel as antisemites.

And then there is John Ware, a former Sun journalist turned BBC reporter who fronted probably the single most damaging programme on Corbyn. An hour-long Panorama “special” accusing Labour of antisemitism was deeply flawed, misleading and failed to acknowledge that several unnamed figures it interviewed were also pro-Israel lobbyists.

It would probably be unwise for me to say more about Ware or his publicly stated views on Muslims, shared by the Jewish Chronicle, because he has recently become litigious. He apparently has deep pockets, helping to fund both the rescue of the Chronicle and law suits against critics.

Exceptional indulgence

But the exceptional indulgence of the Jewish Chronicle, both by IPSO and prominent figures in broadcasting, and the paper’s continuing credibility as a source of news for the wider corporate media, indicates how the antisemitism narrative about Labour served, and continues to serve, the British establishment.

Represented politically by the Conservative party and the Labour right, that establishment was able to reassert its cosy parliamentary duopoly by ousting any meaningful challenge from the Labour left. With Corbyn gone, the threat of real politics has disappeared. We are back to one-party, corporate rule under the guise of two parties.

Which is why IPSO cannot take any meaningful action against the Jewish Chronicle. To do so would pull the rug from under the antisemitism narrative that destroyed Corbyn and is now being used by his successor, Starmer, to purge Labour of the remnants of the left and to distance the party as far as possible from any lingering signs of Palestinian solidarity.

Exposure of the Jewish Chronicle as an editorial wrecking ball aimed at the left would show just how much the paper and the antisemitism narrative it bolstered were key to the Conservative party’s successful smearing of Corbyn that helped to keep him out of Number 10. It would highlight the enduring collusion between the corporate media and the political elite.

And it would indicate that corporate media is not really an exercise in capitalist, free-market economics, where profitable outlets drive out those that are unpopular. Rather loss-making corporate media such as the Jewish Chronicle are a price the establishment is only too happy to bear as long as those publications fulfil a more important purpose: ensuring that the political and economic climate remains favourable to the ruling class.

The Jewish Chronicle has played its part in destroying Corbyn and the left. Now it will continue that role by policing the public discourse and ensuring that no one like Corbyn ever gets near power again. Those libel payouts were a small price to pay.
