Anomie

anomie: a state or condition of individuals or society characterized by a breakdown or absence of social norms and values, as in the case of uprooted people.

Finally, there is a term for our condition. I'm not a theist/deist, but Chris strikes the nail dead on from what I can see.

I learned the word anomie in a Sociology 101 class, and was subsequently disappointed to not see it wider use. It describes our sickness so well. Alienation.
