COVID Louisiana

Postby liminalOyster » Thu Apr 02, 2020 4:34 pm

I'm currently rooted here in the Katrina state and wanted to start a dedicated thread, maybe even just for my own posts. But this shit is insane.

Our cases doubled today to nearly 10K (4.7 mil pop 2018). Mostly concentrated in NOLA and Jefferson Parish. I believe our first documented case showed up 13 days after Fat Tuesday which was no suprise and most of us saw it coming. Hard to imagine, in the US a better petri dish than throngs and throngs of drunk bodily fluid laden revelers packed into dense streets for days on ends.

Our governor is a tepid blue sort who barely beat out his red counterpart last fall though, ironically, as a #neverblue sort, I'm happy for it.

And he's had the savvy to approach Trumpo with undue but necessary respect to start getting us what we need (disaster declaration relief, a modicum of vents, etc).

But I am starting to feel we're sitting on a major social time bomb here. If the numbers climb again in next 48 hrs, I won't be surprised to see 1) a curfew, 2) black folks getting shot. And if that happens well, we have quite a history.

Anyways, I will fill this out later but wanted a placeholder. THere's a sub (http://reddit.com/coronoviruslouisiana) that's a bit inactive but has some good info. And http://http://ldh.la.gov/coronavirus/ releases our newest counts daily at 12pm CST.

BTW we're slotted to run out of vents before the end of the week if you happen to be a hoarder of 50K medical tech......

Things are probably going to get pretty crazy here in Ohio, judging by people's public behaviors over the past week. Expect to hear about an explosion in new cases in Ohio soon. Public areas are busier than ever before because people are home and gasoline is cheap.

Anyway, stay safe down there :)
