From SpaceWeather dot com; March 11, 2012

Sunspot AR1429 is still erupting this weekend. On Saturday, March 10th, it produced a powerful M8-class flare that almost crossed the threshold into X-territory. During the flare, New Mexico amateur astronomer Thomas Ashcraft recorded a series of radio bursts at 21 and 28 MHz:

If you wish, click here for the mp3 popup to hear the bursts. The production doesn’t loop, thank goodness; the producer was kind enough to slowly decrease the volume towards the end of the recording.

I’ve noted elsewhere that I want to believe: fluctuations of heat are the music of the universe. The music isn’t melodic or harmonious, but that’s not the glitch. The glitch might be a predisposition for melodies and harmonies. Nature IS; nature doesn’t know poetry, music, art, war and games, or any particular language.
    Now, there’s a thought :basicsmile .

Hear the Sun’s roar | Bad Astronomy

“I love it when people take electromagnetic phenomena (like aurorae) and convert them to sounds. Light and sound are very similar from a physics standpoint — both are waves, though very different kinds of waves.

“Still, if you take the wavelength (color) and amplitude (intensity) of light, you can convert them mathematically to pitch and volume of sound. It’s not telling you anything physical or real, but it might give you insight into some phenomena… or it might just be cool, like this video which translates the March 7, 2012 solar storm into sound for your listening pleasure.

“Nifty, isn’t it? And the big storm sounds like a lion’s roar, which is appropriate, at least.…” [MORE.]

Hell, RI’s artistic creatives could undoubtedly compose far more clever ambient versions of real electromagnetic phenomena (than the above), and would be absorbed hourly by one fanatical listener. The Gods know that’s just a thought not to be considered a request or anything.

Underwater Volcano in Teal | Bad Astronomy

    Image
    ^
“…That is an underwater volcano that’s been erupting since October of 2011. This picture, taken by the Earth Observing-1 satellite on February 10, 2012, shows the result. The teal water is sea water mixed with volcanic material swept around by the current. This volcano is located just offshore of El Hierro, the southwestern most of the volcanic Canary Islands off the coast of Morocco.

“In case you were thinking those colors aren’t real, then take a look at this footage shot from a helicopter circling the volcano.

“Yeah, those colors are real. Wow.

“As you might expect, the volcano is growing. The peak is 210 meters (690 feet) above the sea floor, but only about 120 meters (390 feet) below the ocean surface. In one month it rose 10 meters! If it keeps erupting like this, then it won’t be too much longer before maps of the Canary Islands will have to be appened…” [MORE.]
