Hey guys, I'm working on a blog right now that I want to be reminiscint of Jeff Wells' "Coincidence Theorist's Guide to 9/11" that will tackle the issue of conspiracy in a satirical way (just as Jeff did by acting like the coindicence theorists). I want to look at the real, proven conspiracies of the past century or so. The reason I say the past century or so is because liars like Daniel Pipes seem to claim that conspiracies only happened in ancient times and that today claims of conspiracy are all wrong.

Here's some I came up with:

MKULTRA (I only am going to cover the proven, unconsented experimentation done on people if I include this one)

Something to consider, especially if using 'proven conspiracies' as ammo in arguments, is whether the conspiracy was dismissed as 'just a conspiracy theory' at the time.

A historical, accepted event which was a conspiracy, is not neccessarily the same thing as a 'conspiracy theory' that turned out to be true.

I hope you'll consider this, I think it'd be very useful and interesting to seperate and compare these two different types of proven conspiracy.

I don't actually know of any off the top of my head! That's why it would be interesting... and more valuable for demonstrating that conspiracy theories CAN be true, to find some examples.

Have a look at the case of the Boeing 747 that landed in Kuwait just as the Iraqis invaded. This, I believe, is a classic case of 'just a conspiracy theory' that turned out to be true. The passengers were used as human shields by Saddam and when they got back to England they all spoke of how the plane had landed after the invasion began and how a dozen or so guys had left the plane as soo nas it had finished taxiing and disappeared with heavy hand luggage. This was dismissed by government and media alike as nonsense for years but recent revealtions have revealed the dozen or so men to be SAS troops... The families of passengers and crew are now suing the British Government. I also believe this subject has been D-Noticed at least once by the British Government.

And don't forget that a senate committee found for conspiracy in the JFK case back in the 80's...

Good luck. make sure you publish your list here when you have it. I think a proven list of incidents widely decried as conspiracy theories but then proven to be true would be useful.

I would add Manson in there, he was a cia mind controlled monkey released from his cage to cause mayhem and discredit the counter culture revolution.

You'll find no shortage of Internet posters who plainly can't tell the difference...too busy pounding the table, and underlining their favored positions with words like "undoubted" and "obvious."

But on the other hand...the "mainstream media whores" of the US news media grant notice to almost no conspiracies, even well-researched stories revealed in the overseas press, or by well-respected career journalists in this country.

Why satirical? Bad idea. Really bad idea. Counter-productive. (Maybe I'm unclear on your intentions but just being satirical about serious things is a way to confuse at best and discredit at worst.)

The phrase 'conspiracy theory' has already been embedded into our conventional wisdom lexicon to mean 'rediculous paranoid rant about things one knows nothing about' as an electric fence to thought.

I was dismayed to see that MASONIC PLOT posted a satire on right wing 'conspiracy theories' because this discredits the very reality.

Why amplify that tone? This is exactly what propagandists want.

TY4, That may prove a daunting task, as the media gatekeepers will NEVER acknowledge Operation Paperclip, Operation Northwoods or the Phoenix Programme.
