Possibilities II

Postby DrDebugDU » Sat Aug 20, 2005 8:38 pm

About the dimension stuff. Stephen Hawking talked about the superstring theory.

Superstring theory is an attempt to explain all of the particles and fundamental forces of nature in one theory by modeling them as vibrations of tiny supersymmetric strings. It is considered one of the most promising candidate theories of quantum gravity. Superstring theory is a shorthand for "supersymmetric string theory" because unlike bosonic string theory, it is the version of string theory that incorporates fermions and supersymmetry.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superstring_theory

The theory of everything being interconnected strings makes a lot of sense, however it requires more dimensions than 3 or 4. The system works for 11 dimensions, however 3^3-1 = 26 is ideal. So maybe there are dimensions of interconnectivity.

This whole theory may seem far fetched but it can explain the universe both on the largest scale (galaxies) and on the microscopic scale (protons etc.) unlike normal theories.

Edited by: DrDebugDU at: 8/20/05 6:39 pm

Absolutely

Postby RollickHooper » Sat Aug 20, 2005 9:50 pm

That's why I generally push for a separation between Man and his relationship to Everything Else: how we behave is entirely our own responsibility,--whether or not the consequences affect the Others, the consequences certainly affect us; I've said it before on this board (as "enkidu"), moral conduct, for all intents and purposes, has nothing to do with God or quarks, it has everything to do with human beings' success as a species. It is most definitely up to us.

Re: responding to everything

Postby ZeroHaven » Sat Aug 20, 2005 10:11 pm

i read the thread, general response to lots

i think the phrase "in God's image" was probably grossly misinterpreted from something like "in God's imagination". But even in the traditional meaning when you consider that the solar system looks like an atom looks like a planet with moons you see that .. well, almost everything is designed with a center point and stuff orbiting it. maybe that's god's image?

Quaternion theory is one of my favorites, at it's simplest it involves the square roots of negative one. 3 of them, cuz all good stuff comes in threes. So do quarks! There's 6 of them, but they exist in pairs: Positive & negative, good & evil, matter & antimatter. 3 really is a magic number, the holy trinity. and you do need opposing forces to get anywhere.

I said in a crop circle thread that to me a lot of them look obvious like "hey I know what that means". Could be cuz I passed all my math classes by visualizing the formulas..
Many of them are pictures of stuff from wave physics - seriously! There's interference patterns, aerodynamics drawings. Of course lots of circles shown around other circles, but there have been fractals and even math tables.

Did you know that if you handle a very strong magnet, you can literally get the iron ripped out of your blood? Think about that next time you hear about "metal orbs" found in a circle and parts of the crop looking exploded.

oh, and FOUR dimensions? BAH.. sometime in the '90's a lab built a device that measured there is another physical dimension but it's a fraction of a millimeter thick. I wish I remembered more to look it up. but even without that..
The speed at which the force of gravity "falls off" proves that some of that gravity-energy is getting leached into another dimension. The math just don't add up! Gravity travels at the speed of light.

if you wanna see just how strong gravity is in your finger, try this. get your face more than 2 feet from the screen, stick your finger right in front of your eye as close as feels safe, and with one eye read the screen. the words will get slightly warped because your finger's gravity is bending the light! works with a pencil too, but dont' hurt yourself! (if you wear glasses, take em off, you should be able to read with just your finger)

As for stopping the 'murdering asshole' .. yeah. Let's stick him where the sun don't shine - have NASA blast him into a black hole!

Speaking Of Pedophilia--

Postby RollickHooper » Sat Aug 20, 2005 10:54 pm

Just riffin' ya, Zed

I like to think that there's some harmonic resonance between our actions and the rest of the universe or multiverse, but what

man I had to stop mid-sentence to take a dump

is the reverse just as true?--do "vibrations" from other sources influence our behavior? I mean like when I hear people say, "Not my will but Thine, Lord" my face goes all sour, especially if they're in some Twelve-Step Program, you know: "I'm all like powerless against my disease," and shit. To me that just gives people permission to behave badly.

Does it?

I tell ya, the people who have no conscience at all seem to be the ones having all the fun. I read an interview with Thomas Ligotti (again with the Thomas Ligotti) in which he said the depressed, the pessimistic, the cynical people are the sane ones, and the happy and carefree people are fucking crazy. I think he's right. I also think it's totally not fair.

ZH,
Are you sure about gravity?
My understanding is that it's effects are effectively instantaneous. That is it "travels" at infinity.
I remember reading about an observation of two stars interacting. Gravity was waaay faster than light.

Another favourite of mine is the pulsar, where two stars orbit each other. They can be incredibly violent. There is one pulsar where two suns are orbiting each other. One is about the size of our sun, the other is 50 percent larger. They spin around each other 67 times EVERY SECOND, sending huge amounts of energy out into the universe

One More Thing

Let me say I apologize if my last post was insensitive, if anyone was offended it's a personally emotional issue and I hope some day to come face-to-face with God, because He's got some explaining to do.
