Sinead O'Connor: fight the real enemy

Sinead latecomer

I steered away from Sinead after the Saturday Night thing, being Catholic and all, and really missed a lot, I am sorry to say. I think she is great, and I wish I had a more open mind back then, but took it personally, and had a hard time reconciling that. Similarly, when Pope John Paul died, a lot of anti-Cathlic sentiment came out on the blogs, I understand it, but it is still hard to swallow and not take it personally.

images of snl incident

Postby albion » Wed Sep 28, 2005 8:09 pm

I didn't realize that the video of the incident had disappeared down the memory hole. I found a clip from a VH1 show called "100 shocking moments" via peer to peer, which has a few frames in it. Here they are:

Re: American Anthem

The snake just keeps biting its tail. I fell for Sinead the first time I ever heard Troy and my opinion of her was pretty solidified by the time her new fame coupled with her penchant for challenging the powerful made her the choice punching bag for the year. I think she was only about 21 years old at the time. Perhaps naive but scrappy as hell, she ripped up a picture of the pope on live TV and refused to perform at a venue that insisted on playing the national anthem prior to her going on stage. This was around the time of Gulf War I and looking back on it, she was perhaps the first "Dixie Chick." The establishment media blitz targeted her to the point that even little old ladies knew just enough to know that she was detestable.

God forbid people listen to a bald headed female singing lyrics like this:

Black Boys on Mopeds

Margaret Thatcher on TV
Shocked by the deaths that took place in Bejing
It seems strange that she should be offended
The same orders are given by her
