My parents have always been afraid it seems, to enter into my living space, whether inside their home or on my own. Perhaps it is my collection of clocks.

My, my

Postby Connut » Wed Oct 12, 2005 1:31 pm

Didn't take you guys long to devolve into negative, feed-the-lizards postings, did it?
Slimmouse, don't apologize for introducing the idea that positive, loving, compassionate thoughts create the energy and force that starves the dark side.

And Eric, Homeless and Banned - why not try this? For every time you feel impelled to dip your toe into the black-can't win-it's never enough-waters, go ahead and do it, but the moment you realize that you're back there again repeat this little incantation :

"May the energy and power expressed by all beings return to them 1000 fold, and encompass them in their own strong embrace".

Thoughts have weight and force and power, even when just inside ours heads and never expressed to others. That is why the "kingdom of heaven" is within. It is for this reason that we are ALL responsible for the manifestation of the current reality. You want to change it?

Send Fitzgerald loving and compassionat energy, and his whole Grand Jury. Repeat the blessing quoted above as you send that energy.

Send TBFEE loving and compassionate energy, and all their cohorts in the Whitehouse, Government and Judiciary. Repeat the blessing quoted above as you send that energy. This is what "love thy neighbor" means.

We are then only responsible for our own energy which will wrap itself around us in its strong embrace. Well, you can see the implications. Enough about war, winning/losing, and how bad things are. Go out into the yard, the park, or just look up at the sky, day or night, and fill up with the beauty that exists there. It's a far better energy to have wrapped around you a thousand times. Get out of your head and into your heart.

My first rant, thanks. Cheers, Connut

"May the energy and power expressed by all beings return to them 1000 fold, and encompass them in their own strong embrace".

That as you know very well is disingenuous . It implies that people are their own creation, not God's. Free will is the greatest heresy there is. Good Work!

Postby Connut » Wed Oct 12, 2005 2:28 pm

Back on track again!

I know the power and zeal that fills us when we discover that internal force for good and light and love. I always wanted to go and spread the word - such a propensity to become a missionary when we wake up.

Years ago my teacher said "Don't worry about other people. You BEHAVE in such a way that people look at you and say - I don't know how you got to be this way, but show me because I want to be the same as you".

By walking our talk we don't have to expend any precious energy on convincing others. We need the energy to pump out there into the universe where it will do some good in providing strength and hope to those who are ready to receive it. Go ahead and cast your bread on the waters, the right people will get it.

Everybody needs to open their hearts to love and compassion to survive these times. Those who don't will self-destruct. So walk in the path of love, do the practice, think positively and the rest will take care of itself. Since there are no survivors on planet earth, everything eventually will change - it's the law of the universe. Know you are loved and supported.

Cheers, Connut

"Free will is the greatest gift that the divine might offer"

Not according to St. Paul or Luther or the Vedanta scriptures of Sankaracharya, Nisargadatta, Maharshi and so on. Jesus said "Not my will, but yours" because individuality is an illusion as is free will. I think all these people have more substance than Edgar Cayce.

New Agers want to fulfill their dreams because they aren't part of creation, but consumers of it. Eric, let's talk about free will.

Postby banned » Wed Oct 12, 2005 3:35 pm

Please expand on your statements, are you saying that free will does not exist at all? How then do you take Genesis (which I interpret as a parable, btw, not history!) in which the supreme being's creatures are capable of defying his orders? Is the individual human capable of a freely willed choice or are we limited either by our 'creator' (if you believe in one) or by biological/psychological forces? When someone rapes a child or kills the guy next door or sets up an insider trading scam, did they have a choice in doing it or does their innate character plus their environmental influences make them someone who could not have chosen to do otherwise?

Obviously, if you can't choose to do evil, choosing good is not a moral act. If you can't choose to do good, then how can you be punished for making the only choice you could make? Does it matter if there's a supreme being when it comes to moral choices, ie, if I'm an atheist, can't I still think stealing or murder or starting a war with a pack of lies is wrong?

I think this is a really interesting topic, but I'm not trying to divert from the main topic--just hope anyone who is interested will respond. I'd be happy to start a new thread for it if that would be better.

Hi Banned

My understanding.

Firstly, Adam eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. In other words, personal judgement or choice againt the will and command of God. They were expelled from Eden (Heaven, Grace) as a result. The symbolism of the crucifixion is that Jesus redeemed fallen humanity by reversing the process, he gave up his earthly existence by submitting to the will of God and returned to Eternal Grace (Heaven).

I think these are universal myths of all human experience coming in to the world and returning to God.

I believe there seems to be minute to minute free will but it's an illusion because we are products of a vast matrix of influences at all levels of our being which decide our course. Paul said that all actions of he body are evil and there is nothing any man can do to move closer to God, only Grace can do that. In other words, God controls all of it.

People live with the illusion of individuality, that's why we get angry and punish . For me, we really are children of a Divine matrix which we escape from only by releasing free will. We do that when God wills it. I believe reincarnation and karma (ultimately an illusion) are the mechanisms.

There is substantial scientific evidence to show that everyday free will is an illusion, the results are amazing.

all the best

Eric

216.239.59.104/search?q=c...elay&hl=en

The half-second delay

In the 1960s and 1970s, two German neurophysiologists attempted to estimate exactly how long ittook for a decision to initiate a movement (for example moving a finger) to result in action.

Theyfound that any action such as flexing a finger is presaged by an increase in electrical activity(what they termed a readiness potential) which appears to correspond to the brain preparing tocarry out an action by determining how it is to be done. What was surprising was that, onaverage, the increase in readiness potential began 0.8 seconds before the finger was flexed. Thequestion that then arises is when is the conscious decision to act actually made?

The classicalanswer would be that the conscious decision to act must occur at the same time as the onset of theincrease in readiness potential, but this would suggest that it took over three-quarters of a secondfor this decision to result in action, which doesn’t accord with either our experience or our‘common sense’. However, the alternative is even less plausible, and that is that the increase inreadiness potential precedes the decision to act

I haven't, no I just read a little about him.

I'm not suggesting that people cannot control their behaviour by the way, only that the amount of control they have and how they exercise it is predetermined. I also think that society will always protect itself no matter what its view of free will is.

An Indian prisoner told a judge that according to the scriptures free will was an illusion and he wasn't responsible. I am in agreement that a lot of "Behaviorism" is simply a statement of realistic facts. That is, that one cannot determine the conditions under which one is brought into existence and that one's choices are limited based on the reality one exists inside of.

However, I am of the opinion that the difference engine in our head is the primary difference between ourselves and 90% of the animal kingdom, and that ours is the most advanced we've encountered, so far.

I believe in Free Will and Determinism. It's our free will that makes us evolve as individuals and a species, the higher the species the less determined the behaviour. However, nature doesn't care about individuals, in the grand scheme of things, we're utterly insignifant .

All individuality is an illusion.

Indeed, the absoulte unity of all things, as fact of established physics research, as a single 4-D object is one of the mainstays of my own worldview.

I tend towards the secular gnosticism of "christian" thinkers like Blake that see spirit as process rather than object. There is only one soul, so reincarnation is both true and not true. Man is, through the massive overwhelming of his 5 senses slowly developing an increased 6th sensetivity (or more) which is making him more aware of himself as being only the larval form of himself. The body of Christ is becoming aware across time.

I don't like to talk about this very much, because people always give me this look like I'm completely mad.
