I find it interesting that the love life of stars is so important, it harkens back to the 1950's when Rock Hudson would be shown on magazine covers with his lady love. So, not only was Hudson starring as a leading ladies man in movies (illusions), but his life was an illusion as well when presented to the public. It was all p.r.
Seems that this type of selling has worked very well in the past and may continue today. Not only does it seem likely that Cruise needs to find a leading lady for the p.r. machine to sell his movies, but absolutely necessary. And it really doesn't matter if he is gay or not. His "real" life will never be presented. He makes movies (illusions) and presents his own life (illusions) perfectly packaged.

Now I don't want to break anyone's heart, but I don't think Brad and Angelina really frolic in the summers grass behind the estate with her young son, except when the cameras are rolling.

The really scary thing is that everybody buys this stuff. The movies and the "real life". How deep do the illusions go?
