Hey Joe, funny you should mention manwoman. He was interviewed in a ReSearch book called Modern Primitives that was a quintessential desktop reference for the aspiring counter-culture/body mod scene. It's an historic book that had a collossal influence on me as a late teen; you should really check it out if you ever get the chance.

Thanks for the positive remarks folks. Amazingly, I was sucked into an incredibly ugly flame war on another board I mentioned this story on where I was basically accused of advancing the Nazi agenda here in the states..

THAT was amusing..

____________________
Some are born to sweet delight, some are born to endless night.

Yeah I think i came across him in Modern primatives, about 15 years ago. there was also a tv show about him.

You are so obviously a Nazi arcadia, just like so many of us on this board.

Modern Primatives was a huge influence on many people. Tho I personally never brought into the scene clichey side of it. That was a big vibe with it back in the day.

Tho it had its true freaks, like Stellac. I think he was into something way beyond what many people looked for.

For some reason, this thread and the manwoman/modern primitive reference got me thinking about Genesis P. Orridge. www.genesisp-orridge.com/

I was wondering if you guys had views on him?

Like him or loathe him (and plenty do) he's been quite a catalyst for a lot of young people in Britain.

Back in the day I was a big TG and PTV fan - in fact, I just bought a whole load of their discs off eBay. It was GPO that turned me on to Burroughs, Ginsberg, Anthony Balch, Jarman, Gysin... Crowley, Blake...all of that stuff really. I used to write him letters and send him stuff. Then a few years later, I met him at the Zap Club in Brighton and he was this strange little man who gave me a pair of PTV socks.

Anyone remember Tom Vague's brilliant VAGUE magazine?

GPO has gone all the way.

None of this changing your name stuff, hes got tits.

I think you told me this HMK.

(BTW I got my shit together re The Indigo Kids and stuff.)

He was always a reinforcement of certain ideas I had come across.

Always wondered about TG.

The fear Very Friendly inspired in myself, and especially a couple of other people I can remember...

Once RAWilson mentioned a muso that coded enochian keys into their music, In the last 10 years I came across a US band called current 93 who seem to. But before that I always wondered what TG invoked and who GPO learned from that re PTV and so much early 90s techno. oh and if Jaz Coleman was doing it deliberately with Killing Joke.

Thanks Grey but I'll pass on this one. TG were always somewhere in the background while I got my musical education but never really tickled these ears. GPO seemed like the same kinda self promotion freak as too many so called stars. Too big for their own bands.

But if you've any extensive guitar freak-outs, funky little numbers or short incisive rants I'll have 'em. Ta

Another small (personal) victory

Postby johnny nemo » Wed Aug 16, 2006 2:37 pm

I talked a friend of mine out of getting a swastika tattoo in the 80s.
He was just getting into the whole skinhead thing and wanted to prove himself, for some other stupid reason that only makes sense when you're 15.

Anyway...I just explained to him that he had been an anarchist 6 weeks before that and that he would have regretted getting a big 'A' tattooed on him.
His brother and I really gave him a hard time about it and he ended up compromising by just getting the Iron Eagle tat, as he could get the swastika later.
He never did.
He dropped out of the skinhead scene and now even regrets the Iron Eagle.
(Which begs the question..which is worse; deluded skinhead or deluded yuppie scumbag?)

Of course, when he tells the story, he never mentions his bother and me counselling him...he makes it sound like he had some "moment of clarity" and decided against it ('cuz he's a bit of a megalomaniac and a jackass).

I've got another friend who is a tattoo artist.
He and I used to beat up Nazi skinheads in the 80s together and he refuses to do swastikas.
He doesn't get mad about it; he just refers them to another shop.
He does the cover-ups for free, so several people have left his shop with Iron Eagle and Diamond tattoos.
(If I had a nickel for every one of those I'd seen...)
He considers it a victory, as well.

As to Genesis P-Orridge...I've met her when she was starring in a film that a guy I knew made.
Told me a story about one of the guys from TG going to jail and being hassled by the Aryan lads inside.
Then one of them saw the tattoo that he had, which looks like the one below.

Apparently this gave the Aryan the idea that he was already a high level member of the Aryan Whatever and they left him alone.
I highly doubt that TG ever had any affiliation with any racist group.

Now, Boyd Rice from NON (who TG played with a few times) on the other hand is a fascist, Satanist nutjob.

We were all in a large, open room with smaller individual 2 bed cells and the general vibe about me was wherever I sat, everyone else moved to the other side of the room, so there'd be just me sitting at a table, with about 30 other guys standing against the wall clear on the other side of the holding area.

lol..
____________________
Some are born to sweet delight, some are born to endless night.

Geniuses in jail

Postby johnny nemo » Wed Aug 16, 2006 3:43 pm

You won't meet very many smart people in jail.
(BTW, I say this referring to your cellmates and not you.)

A large part of my family lives across the street from a jail and I used to watch all these beautiful women visiting their men at the ole jailhouse.
I used to wonder why they didn't dump them for someone who knows how to commit crimes and get away with it (like a lawyer).

All the smart criminals work on Wall Street (or in the Bush administration).

I should have excused the political prisoners.
I've met some Black Panthers (in prison in PA since the 60s) and activist types who had been locked up, and they were brilliant people.

I was referring to the chav thug wanna-be "gangsta" types who are as intelligent as lawn furniture.
These are white kids from the suburbs who choose to be criminals for "street cred" that I'm referring to.

I have much more empathy for the actual people from the hood who have been victimized by a system of insitutionalized racism and forced poverty, who turn to crime in order to survive.

That symbol is a sowulo rune, traditionally related to the sun (tho in a feminine form apparantly, must be that the runes come from a people so far north that the sun is not as yang as the cold.)

Two sowulo runes can be joined together to form a sun wheel or fylfot - a symbol we know today as a swastika.

The Sowulo rune aslo has associations with lightning, and the god Thor.

Could you suggest some simple and not-large tattoos for RI-ers like myself?
