Mind Kontrol Themes on TeleVision

Postby elfismiles » Tue Dec 02, 2008 10:53 am

I didn't want to hijack any other threads though this is a similar theme.

What do folks think about the mainstreaming of MK stories? In the "real world" we are told that there are "Sleeper Agents" working for Al-Qaeda. The mainstream use of that phrase, which has previously largely only been used among conspiracy researchers focused on MK-Ultra and beyond type strategems, seemed telling.

And now, we have two primetime TV shows dealing with induced alters and MK style data downloading:

CHUCK on NBC

http://www.nbc.com/Chuck/

From executive producer, Josh Schwartz and executive producer-director McG comes a one-hour, action-comedy series about Chuck Bartowski -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent.

The world's nerdiest secret agent is back! Executive producer Josh Schwartz ("Gossip Girl," "The O.C.") and executive producer-director McG ("Charlie's Angels," "We Are Marshall") team up again to bring back the one hour action-comedy series about Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent.

When Chuck opens an e-mail subliminally encoded with government secrets, he unwittingly downloads an entire server of sensitive data into his brain. Now, the fate of the world lies in the unlikely hands of a guy who works at a Buy More Electronics store. Instead of fighting computer viruses, he must now confront assassins and international terrorists.

With the government's most precious secrets in Chuck's head, Major John Casey (Adam Baldwin, "My Bodyguard") of the National Security Agency resumes his responsibility of protecting Chuck. Casey's partner is the CIA's top agent (and Chuck's dream girl), Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski, "Gone"). They try to keep him safe by trading in his pocket protector for a bulletproof vest.

Also starring are Joshua Gomez ("Without a Trace") as Morgan Grimes -- Chuck's best buddy, Sarah Lancaster ("What About Brian?") as Chuck's ever-supportive sister Ellie, and Ryan McPartlin ("Living With Fran") as "Captain Awesome," Ellie's fiancé. Chuck's Buy More team consists of Big Mike (Mark Christopher Lawrence, "The Pursuit of Happyness") and the Nerd Herd, which includes Lester (Vik Sahay, "Time Bomb"), Jeff (Scott Krinsky, "The O.C.") and Anna (Julia Ling, NBC's "ER").
Schwartz and Chris Fedak wrote "Chuck," which is produced by College Hill Pictures, Wonderland Sound and Vision, in association with Warner Bros. Television.

My Own Worst Enemy

http://www.nbc.com/My_Own_Worst_Enemy/

teams up with executive producer/director David Semel on NBC's new drama "My Own Worst Enemy," a show that raises the question: who can you trust when you can't trust yourself? Starring Christian Slater ("Bobby") as both Henry Spivey and Edward Albright, "My Own Worst Enemy" explores the duality of a man who is literally pitted against himself.

Henry (Slater) is a middle-class efficiency expert living a humdrum life in the suburbs with his wife, Lily (Yara Martinez, "The Hitcher"), their two kids, a dog, and a minivan. Edward (Slater) is an operative who speaks 13 languages, runs a four-minute mile, and is trained to kill. Albright works at Janus Headquarters for Mavis Heller (Alfre Woodard, "Desperate Housewives"), a tough, extremely intelligent woman with a hidden compassionate side. Henry and Edward are polar opposites who share only one thing in common - the same body. When the carefully constructed wall between them breaks down, Henry and Edward are thrust into unfamiliar territory where each man is dangerously out of his element.

Tom Grady (Mike O'Malley, "Yes, Dear") is Henry's best friend and co-worker with an alter ego named Raymond (O'Malley), a sadistic and violent secret agent. Dr. Norah Skinner (Saffron Burrows, "The Bank Job") is the smart and savvy psychologist who is in tune with the inner workings of both Edward and Henry.

The series is produced by Universal Media Studios. Jason Smilovic ("Kidnapped") is the executive producer; David Semel (director of "American Dreams," and NBC's "Heroes" and "Life" pilots) is the director and executive producer.

MacGyver had several episodes where russians or chinese or some such had brainwashed people to be mind-controlled assassins. In one early episode (cant remember the name or season, Im guessing 1-3 season?) MacGyvers two closest friends are brainwashed to assassinate a visiting VIP. Both try and fail, and ultimately MacGyver is able to get their programming disabled. Tried searching some on the nets, but Id need to check out the episodes. Too tired now.

They even used words "mind control" and brainwash, program. The programming was activated by a star visible behind the VIPs speakers podium, and a certain phrase he used at the end of the speech. That star light and the phrase were the trigger.

Who would have thought that a girl like me
Would double as a super staaaaaaaaaaaaaaar
Woo!
You get the best of both worlds

Chillin' out, take it slow
Then you rock out the show
You get the best of both worlds

Mix it all together
And you know that it's the best
You get the best of both worlds

Without the shades and the hair
You can go anywhere
You get the best of both worlds

Mix it all together... oh yeah
It's so much better
'Cause you know you've got
The best of both worlds

My name is Thomas Veil, or at least it was. I'm a photographer, I had it all: a wife, Alyson, friends, a career.
And in one moment, it was all taken away, all because of a single photograph. I have it; they want it; and they will do anything to get the negative.
I'm keeping this diary as proof that these events are real. I know they are... They... have to be."

Nowhere man, please listen
You don't know what you're missing
Nowhere man, The world is at your command
Ah, la, la, la, la

He's as blind as he can be
Just sees what he wants to see
Nowhere man, can you see me at all...

I was unaware of the NOWHERE MAN series ... it rings a vague bell though.

Hannah Montanna is a good example for the other thread as well:

Mind control alters going mainstream or silly marketing?

I may have seen parts of NOWHERE MAN and more likely have seen those MacGyver 'sodes.

Thanks all. I'm sure there are more examples. It seems like its really being worked into the mainstream mindset now.

elfismiles:
And you should check out Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Terminators in skins - indistinguishable from humans. Programmed robots...

And one of them (female terminator) has been re-programmed by John in the future to help John and Sarah Connor in the past in their battle.

Image

The female terminator is the girl in the back. In one episode, she switched momentarily to her old programming after some damage to her chip. John managed to make her switch back before she could kill John - which is the ultimate mission of all Terminators.

Also some nice Christ / John allegories in the story.

Don't forget Lost creator JJ Abrams's Fringe (though it's not specifically about mind control):

The series deals with a research scientist named Walter Bishop (described as "Frankenstein mixed with Albert Einstein" and portrayed by John Noble), his son Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson), and an FBI agent, Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) who brings them back together. The show is described as a cross between The X-Files, Altered States, The Twilight Zone and Dark Angel .

Fringe follows the exploits of FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham, scientist Walter Bishop, and his son Peter as they investigate aspects of fringe science (telepathy, levitation, invisibility, reanimation, genetic mutation, etc). All over the world, a series of apparent experiments collectively referred to as "the Pattern" (e.g., a newborn baby who rapidly ages and dies within a few hours, a bus full of passengers trapped in a strange substance like mosquitoes in amber) are occurring for reasons unknown. Olivia, Peter, and Walter are in charge of investigating these strange events to determine their source. Connected to the Pattern is a company called Massive Dynamic, which is a leading global research company that holds the patents for a number of new and important technologies.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fringe_(TV_series)

I found it interesting that the scientist was originally doing his experiments in the 60's and 70's but then locked up in the nuthouse of almost two decades. His back story has all the signs of being

Not a great show, but Noble's character is consistently amusing. Sometimes I'll watch it if I'm doing laundry.

And Joss Whedon's upcoming Dollhouse:

In Dollhouse, (Eliza) Dushku plays a young woman named Echo, a member of a group of people known as "Actives" or "Dolls." The Dolls have had their personalities wiped clean so they can be imprinted with any number of new personas, including memory, muscle memory, skills, and language, for different assignments. They're then hired out for particular jobs, crimes, fantasies, and occasional good deeds. On missions, Actives are monitored internally (and remotely) by Handlers. In between tasks, they are mind-wiped into a child-like state and live in a futuristic dormitory/laboratory, a hidden facility nicknamed "The Dollhouse". The story follows Echo, who begins, in her mind-wiped state, to become self-aware.[2][3]

Beyond Dushku's character, the show will also revolve around the people who run the mysterious "Dollhouse" and two other "Dolls", Victor and Sierra, who are friendly with Echo. Although the Actives are ostensibly volunteers, the operation is highly illegal and under constant threat on one end from Paul Ballard, a determined federal agent who has heard a rumor about the dolls, and an insane rogue Active on the other.[3]

This one I'm looking forward to, given Whedon's past shows.

Wow, that sounds a lot like the character http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Tam#River_Tam in Firefly....

River Tam, played by Summer Glau, first appears in Firefly and also appears in the R. Tam sessions, the comic Serenity: Those Left Behind, and the feature film Serenity. River is the teenage sister of Dr. Simon Tam, both of whom take refuge aboard Serenity. She is considered a child prodigy from a very young age, intelligent beyond her years and athletically gifted. Summer Glau won the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as River in Serenity in May 2006.[28] Glau was also runner up for Best Actress/Movie in the SyFy Genre Awards for 2006.[29]

River grew up with her brother Simon, with whom she was very close, as part of the wealthy Tam family on the "core" (Alliance-dominated) planet of Osiris. Having a high intellect and a ready grasp of complex subjects, she was sent to a government learning facility known only as “The Academy” at the age of fourteen. While her parents and Simon believed the Academy was a private school meant to nurture the gifts of the most academically talented children in the Alliance, it was in fact a cover for a government experiment in creating the perfect assassin. While in the hands of the Alliance doctors and scientists, River was secretly and extensively experimented on, including surgery that removed most of her amygdala (which in the show is said to act as a filter for emotions),[30] preventing River from being able to control her emotions.[31] She descends into insanity and nurtures psychic and “intuitive” abilities, but although the R. Tam sessions imply that she may have already had some form of latent psychic abilities prior to being recruited, how and when this translated into her apparently full-fledged mind-reading abilities is unknown.[32]

The Alliance isolates River from her family, though she managed to send a call for help by putting a coded message in a letter to her brother. Simon decoded the message and successfully set out to rescue his then 16-year-old sister, despite his parents' insistence that he was simply being paranoid.[33] When the Alliance learns of River's rescue, they promptly froze all of Simon's monetary accounts, leaving him with nothing but his medkit, and put out a warrant for the arrest of both Simon and River, labelling them as fugitives.[34]

As evidenced in Serenity, River's skill at hand-to-hand combat is virtually unstoppable. On two separate occasions she ventures into large melees (20–30 opponents against her at the same time), and on both occasions she emerges not only victorious but (apparently) completely uninjured. The fighting style used by River in Serenity was a Kung-fu/Kickboxing hybrid, modified to be more "balletic."[35] Her skill with firearms is also shown to be near super-human: during a battle in the Firefly episode "War Stories" she memorizes the battlefield in one quick glance, then proceeds to take out three advancing soldiers with one shot each, with her eyes closed.

(Liked Firefly a lot, the sucker for scifi that I am...)

'Fringe' element haunts Fox shows
'Observer' spotted at games, in 'Idol' audience

Eagle-eyed Fox viewers may have seen a pale, well-dressed bald guy showing up in the strangest of places.

The expressionless man -- who looks like a Blue Man Group star, without the paint -- has been spotted in the audience of "American Idol," on the sidelines at an NFL divisional playoff game, a Yankees game and a NASCAR race -- all live events broadcast on the network.

"Fringe" fans have quickly identified the man as the Observer, an enigmatic character who plays a part in the show's mythology.

He's never identified, and the sports announcers or "Idol" stars never acknowledge his presence onscreen. And that's the point, as Fox continues to roll out a mysterious viral marketing campaign meant to equal the character's shadowy ways.

Fox wouldn't comment on the campaign -- likely hoping to keep an air of ambiguity to it all. But internally, staffers have taken to calling it the "Where's Baldo?" initiative.

"Fringe" fans have also taken to posting the Observer's appearances on YouTube -- and Fox has not-so-mysteriously looked the other way.

Michael Cerveris, the actor who plays the Observer, will continue to show up in character at various televised events in the coming weeks.
