Dan Rather in action

Postby vigilantwarrior » Fri Jul 31, 2009 1:27 pm

Here is Cronkite's successor Dan Rather describing the contents of the Zapruder film to his listening public. "The head goes forward with considerable violence". Note also his description of the Kennedy neck and Connally hits as two obviously distinct events, as if the three-shot myth had not yet been decided:

Here is CBS anchor Rather introducing a "video" of Rudy Giuliani "holding up what he says is a flight recorder box" from Ground Zero, then aborting the clip due to "technical problems":

Operation Mockingbird was a secret Central Intelligence Agency campaign to influence domestic and foreign media beginning in the 1950s.

The CIA Memory Hole

According to the Congress report published in 1976:

"The CIA currently maintains a network of several hundred foreign individuals around the world who provide intelligence for the CIA and at times attempt to influence opinion through the use of covert propaganda. These individuals provide the CIA with direct access to a large number of newspapers and periodicals, scores of press services and news agencies, radio and television stations, commercial book publishers, and other foreign media outlets."

Senator Frank Church argued that misinforming the world cost American taxpayers an estimated $265 million a year...

JFK :: rogerebert.com :: Great Movies
I don't have the slightest idea whether Oliver Stone knows who killed President John F. Kennedy. I have no opinion on the factual accuracy of his 1991 film "JFK.'' I don't think that's the point. This is not a film about the facts of the assassination, but about the feelings. "JFK'' accurately reflects our national state of mind since Nov. 22, 1963. We feel the whole truth has not been told, that more than one shooter was involved, that somehow maybe the CIA, the FBI, Castro, the anti-Castro Cubans, the Mafia or the Russians, or all of the above, were involved. We don't know how. That's just how we feel.

Shortly after the film was released, I ran into Walter Cronkite and received a tongue-lashing, aimed at myself and my colleagues who had praised "JFK.'' There was not, he said, a shred of truth in it. It was a mishmash of fabrications and paranoid fantasies. It did not reflect the most elementary principles of good journalism. We should all be ashamed of ourselves.

I have no doubt Cronkite was correct, from his point of view. But I am a film critic and my assignment is different than his. He wants facts. I want moods, tones, fears, imaginings, whims, speculations, nightmares. As a general principle, I believe films are the wrong medium for fact. Fact belongs in print. Films are about emotions. My notion is that "JFK'' is no more, or less, factual than Stone's "Nixon''_or "Gandhi,'' "Lawrence of Arabia,'' "Gladiator,'' "Amistad,'' "Out of Africa,'' "My Dog Skip'' or any other movie based on "real life.'' All we can reasonably ask is that it be skillfully made and seem to approach some kind of emotional truth.

Given that standard, "JFK'' is a masterpiece. It's like a collage of all the books and articles, documentaries and TV shows, scholarly debates and conspiracy theories since 1963. We know the litany by heart: The grassy knoll, the hobos in dress shoes, the parade route, the Bay of Pigs, Lee Harvey Oswald in Russia, the two Oswalds, Clay Shaw, Allen Dulles, three shots in 2.6 seconds, the eyewitness testimony, the woman with the umbrella, the gunpowder tests, the palm print, Jack Ruby, the Military Industrial Complex, the wrong shadows on the photograph, the Zapruder film, and on and on. These items are like pegs on a child's workbench: We pound one down, and another one springs up.

Oliver Stone was born to make this movie. He is a filmmaker of feverish energy and limitless technical skills, able to assemble a bewildering array of facts and fancies and compose them into a film without getting bogged down. His secret is that he doesn't intend us to remember all his pieces and fit them together and arrive at logical conclusions. His film is not about the case assembled by his hero, New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison (Kevin Costner). It is about Garrison's obsession. The film's thrust is not toward truth, but toward frustration and anger. Too many lies have been told and too much evidence tainted for the truth to ever be known. All Garrison can reasonably hope to prove is that the official version is unlikely or impossible, and that tantalizing clues and connections suggest a hidden level on which the dots connect differently...

Ellen McCloy, daughter of Warren Commission member, John McCloy, worked at CBS and acted as a courier between the network and her father.

CBS rigged an attempted recreation of the shooting, censored LBJ's comments, and browbeat a Dealey Plaza witness out of his account.
Walter Cronkite was complicit...

http://www.ctka.net/2009/target_car_jd.html
The Discovery Channel, which hosted this special, is fast becoming the new CBS. If one recalls the work of people like Jerry Policoff, CBS was probably the most rabid defender of the Warren Commission from 1963-1967, and even beyond. In 1964, they put together a special almost immediately after the Warren Report was published. In other words, it was almost impossible for them to have read, digested, and analyzed the 26 volumes in time for the broadcast. But that didn't bother them at all. They went ahead and coronated that disgraceful document. In 1967, they actually used Warren Commissioner John McCloy as a consultant to their multi part series—without informing the audience of that fact! Both these programs are embarrassing to look at today. But both Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather had their marching orders from above. And like good corporate foot soldiers, they did what they were told.

Today, the cable version of CBS on the JFK case has become Discovery Channel. In 2003, they did a show called The JFK Conspiracy Myths. In this program, the producers used the same sharpshooter that Inside the Target Car used: Michael Yardley. The aim was to show that Lee Harvey Oswald could do what the Warren Commission said he did: That is fire three shots in six seconds getting at least two direct hits. Except for Yardley the time span was magically and conveniently expanded to almost eight seconds. Further, his rifle was hooked up to a laser switch which, of course, eliminates rifle recoil, making it easier to shoot and re-aim. As Pat Speer noted, Yardley was later honest about his ersatz experiment. He told a British journalist that he did not think Oswald could have pulled off the feat of marksmanship attributed to him. End of story...

I was just listening to this almost year old interview with Jim DiEugenio. In it he discusses, among other things, McCloy's role with CBS in propping up the Warren Commission in a series of Specials. Also towards the end of the clip (01:09:05) Jim gets into Cronkite's attempt to sway critics like Roger Ebert with regard to the movie JFK.

PBS's 'News Hour' anchor, Jim Lehrer, is another CIA-media Mockingbird and has been writing decoy psyops novels about military-intelligence topics for the literati interested in that colorful subject matter.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=ntt_athr_dp ... m%20Lehrer

'Purple Dots' was published just before Robert Stinnett published his 2000 Pearl Harbor expose about the broken Japanese Purple Code which was hidden from Hawaii's command to guarantee the sneak attack.

'The Special Prisoner' was published by Lehrer in 2000 as a decoy of the expose of the Vietnam POW-MIA Air Force computer warfare "special prisoners" who were kept by North Vietnam and even sent to Moscow to be interrogated, tortured, and never returned, a bad history for recruiting new meat. See 'Luke Skywalker' and 'Top Gun.'

Gee, can you guess what the decoy purpose was of Lehrer's 'The Franklin Affair?'
Um, yeah.

Well. That's interesting. Hadn't seen that before. Sometimes it's worth looking back into these old threads.

Roger Feinman -- the anti-Cronkite

Postby MinM » Sun Dec 18, 2011 11:33 am

Ed LeDoux wrote:Tribute to Roger Feinman Esq

"... There was virtually no debate at all on this series. It was essentially a multi-part and one-sided endorsement of the Commission; the main talking heads being Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather. In his memoranda, Roger showed, with specific examples arranged in time sequence, how Midgley’s original conception was completely altered. Further, he named names all the way up the ladder. This included Dick Salant, president of CBS News. He then showed just how badly CBS had compromised itself to the Warren Commission forces. Midgley actually had Commissioner John McCloy act as a consultant to the program. Except this was done outside of normal channels, through his daughter, who worked at CBS and who functioned as a go-between between Midgley and McCloy. To conceal how badly CBS had compromised its own journalistic standards, Midgley then kept McCloy’s name off the program. In other words, the public never knew that CBS had consulted with a Warren Commissioner on a show that was actually supposed to judge the quality of work the Commission did. "

Roger exposed the soft underbelly that is 'corporate news'.
Unfortunately he paid a price for what was right and just.
He spoke up while those others kept quiet.

Given the Brian Williams kerfuffle it might be worth remembering what Hugh had to say about another newsreader. Basically that they are lying liars paid to lie for a living..
Hugh Manatee Wins » Fri Jul 17, 2009 9:42 pm wrote:Image

Walter Cronkite, once known as the most trusted man in America, died today age 92. He worked as mouthpiece for a CIA cut-out company called CBS.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8157052.stm

After some WWII reporting and 1950s television work with a chimp, he anchored the CIA-CBS evening news from 1962-1981 and, like Dan Rather and Jim Lehrer, lied about the murder of President Kennedy up to the end and hosted a 1966 special on UFOs when the cover-up was coming badly undone and the veracity of eye-witnesses needed to be discredited.

Walter Cronkite was 'a good soldier' for the US military government during the Cold War just as he had been during WWII.

Due to his avuncular appearance and baritone voice, he was able to deliver state-controlled news in a way that cemented a rapport with a conditioned and misdirected audience that made them grateful for the experience.
In propaganda science this is known as 'parasocial interaction' and is treasured almost more than a false-flag bombing. See 'Tim Russert.'

CBS during the Cold War was practically synonymous with CIA.
The man who hired Cronkite and was his boss, Sig Mickelson, later told of the working relationship that already existed between CBS and CIA when he began there and he continued that relationship. Mickelson even got a hotline phone to CIA. Mickelson later went over to CIA-Voice of America, just like NBC's John Chancellor and a gaggle of NPR people.

May Americans never again trust a news anchor the way they did Walter Cronkite. And he never came clean. A 'good soldier' to his death. And the death of many others.

Speaking of being a 'good soldier' .. was Brian Williams taking one for the team in the wake of this story?
