Getting 404's.

Postby barracuda » Tue Dec 28, 2010 12:43 am

Checking out some links to older posts, I keep seeing a message I haven't gotten before, check BPH's link here:

viewtopic.php?p=292671#p292671

This is the third one I've seen. Have the older links somehow shaken loose? Look here:

http://www.rigorousintuition.ca/board/v ... 649#282649

The "www" prefix is different on the 404'ed links.

That's because they were links to the pre-upgrade version of the board. We'd kept the old one online but locked down for most of the year, but we had to dump it because Bluehost was telling us we were taking up too much server space.

In my panic to avoid the pulling of plugs, I hadn't thought through the implications. But I don't know what I could have done about it. All the posts still exist, on this board, but yes, unfortunately, all links to the old board have been shaken loose.

Okay, that's good to know.

I first noticed it in this post from Hugh the other day:

Hugh Manatee Wins wrote:When I posted the 1953 CIA mole in Paramount with script control documents while debating you,-

and he was referencing a thread from this August. So I'm not sure what to make of that. But I'm perfectly willing to chalk it up to some water-mammal business, and leave it at that.

It must be down to that. The url - http://www.rigorousintuition.ca/board/ - is to the decommissioned board. Nobody's been posting to it for a year. This board has the url http://www.rigorousintuition.ca/board2/

Which gives me an ideer: maybe by simply adding a "2" we could reanimate those links. I'll run that past Drew.

Lemme try that for a sec. I'll add a "2" to Hugh's url and see if it works...

We need to make a script to run that for all of 'em.
