I haven't seen Joe Hillshoist around recently.

I agree.
The real issue is that there is extremely low likelihood that the speculations of the untrained, on a topic almost pathologically riddled by dynamic considerations and feedback effects, will offer anything new.

Simulist is the most puzzling of all. Where did he go?

But Elvis, I do hope you are well. Thank you for the Thanksgiving invite. Check in, will ya?

Twyla, I am about to give you a call.

Joe, WTF?

Hello friends, and thanks for thinking of me, Perelandra and 82-28!

I've been busy, and needed a break from the daily hours of computer screen. I stopped in to read about OBL's 'death' and check the Lounge for board scandal.

My forum visits might be irregular for awhile but I'm down for any NW WA meetups that may come along. I don't have a car, and the magic carpet is in the shop, but I'll try to get there!

"Charlie Meadows" is banned for trolling, and for having trolled here before under a myriad of names.

After reflection, and with the understanding she's welcome to change her mind and eventually return, hava's confirmed that she wants her account closed.

I don't understand the logic of requesting having your account closed here.

It doesn't prevent you from reading the forum.

It only prevents you from sharing or responding or PMing.

Why would you want to prevent yourself from sharing or responding or PMing without having to request that someone manually re-allow it? If you're tired of PMing, block the senders or stop checking your PM box. If it's your intention never to post here again, then don't post here again. If it's your intention to never read here again, then just go the fuck away!

Why, instead, all the drama of requesting account closure? It's nothing short of a symbolic act, but really nothing more either. It's making the grandest of grand exits. Rather than disembarking quietly with no intention of returning, it's jumping off the side of the ship with a loud scream during a cocktail party and waving buh-bye as you're left to bob in the wake.

More ridiculous than a swan song, if you ask me. Just let us know you won't be back (or not!), swap email addresses via PM with your buddies (or not!), and be gone already (or not!). Why all the fucking fuss?

But it's so morish!

I don't think its about logic but rather emotion.

My big problem with deleting users is that it ruins the ability to use phpboard's builtin ability to search by username.

Right! This is very important from a curation perspective. We're building a huuuuuge net here that can catch any number of interested minds via a wide variety of topics. Why cripple historical data unnecessarily?

If this is more about locking up the liquor cabinet and giving the key to someone else, then how about just disabling the account instead, such that post history and searchability is retained?
