Gross Opportunist Disney Trademarks 'Seal Team 6'
On May 3, two days after Osama bin Laden was killed, Disney made a move to trademark the term 'Seal Team 6' -- the name of the elite secret squad of Navy SEALs that carried out bin Laden's killing. According to Fishbowl NY via Daily Beast, 'Disney’s trademark applications for “Seal Team 6″ cover clothing, footwear, headwear, toys, games and “entertainment and education services,” among other things.'
After getting over the initial nausea at the idea that the corporation responsible for 'Hannah Montana' is hoping to capitalize on the killing of a murderous terrorist, we have to wonder: should the trademark be granted, what do they hope to do with it? Animated musical about the events at Abottabad? Broadway play about their training facilities? Stuffed animals in SWAT gear wielding automatic weapons? The possibilities are endless. We're pretty shocked they didn't try to trademark the names of bin Laden's wives, too -- could have been a real hit for their princess franchise.
Stay tuned for a most certainly in-the-making 'docudrama' and accompanying franchised goods. Hopefully in addition to the 'footwear, headwear, toys,' they can also manufacture barf bags.
