Too right rain. There's a massive problem with it.

Its interesting that the presumption of innocence is one of the things thats gone the way of the dodo.

Individual people seem to assume guilt in others rather than innocence, so I guess it was there to protect against that tendency in society.

At least that mob in Meringur waited till the bloke had been convicted (5 years probably out in 2 and 1/2) before they burnt his house down.

Being convicted of a crime means that it has been proved to a court beyond any reasonable doubt. Well thats the theory anyway.

There is a tradition stretching back 800 years, or there abouts, where people have (in Common law nations, ironically some of the oldest common law nations are the coalition of the willing) tried to limit the arbitary power of the state.

To allow the systems of power to be more than just a conquerors enforcement machine. Thats what all the fuss about everything to do with the war on terra is about - the dismantling of centuries of work to limit the arbitary power of the state. To give a framework of rules to follow, I spose thats ultimately another socialist plot...

It is a bit sus that everyone assumes guilt the moment the term child sexual abuse, or anything similar, is mentioned. Karrs a classic case.

He is probably a pedophile. He looks sus for a start, and he was in Thailand so that just confirms it. (WTF are you serious Joe?)

No.

That would be my inclination to - say thats probably the case,

but

its no where near enough proof of the crime he was charged with for me to say he is guilty of it and deserves to be on an offenders register. So until proven otherwise he is considered innocent. The moment we stop thinking like that we become the same as Bush, Ruddock and all the nazis, fascists and totalitarian power hungry control freak asrseholes throughout history.

Personal proof is one thing, and acting on it is fine, but expecting the state to indulge in your own personal vengence trip is another thing completely.

For gruds sake the prosecution lost the goddamn evidence (if it ever existed). How can you allow a case to procede without evidence. If people don't understand that aspect of habeas corpus perhaps they don't deserve it.
