I dont know how we got there you couldn't see anything outside. It was crazy. She was half wild when I told her she reminded me of the pink leather fringe girl with the fancy shooter who shot the side view of Crazy Horse in a shiny piece of sheet metal. She groaned from the deep buy Edgar Fucking Caycee here a drink. We were supposed to go ice fishing. We never made it. "I lived in a hail of bullets," she said, and kissed me on the lips, hard, right in front of Roy who she had just introduced me to as her husband. And just as I thought you know I think he's gonna bring one up he did and that was the last thing I remember till The Wizard brought me too still laughing saying how she had been kidnapped just that night by two guys who broke out of the pen where her husband worked and was always on about his Dodge Challenger how wasn't anything in Deer Lodge County could touch it so these guys broke out and went straight to his house cause they knew right where to find the keys and wrestled the shotgun out of her hands but not before she got off a shot. So they took her as a hostage but it was already too late as they moved under the heavy sky hoping ride ahead of the storm but the road block was there and as they slowed down figuring they'd just go back to their cells she screamed gun it you fucking dick heads or we're all dead meat and so they did just as the first rounds marimba'd into the grill and the impact rather than pulverizing them launched them up in the air, a quiet moment in the sky among the first snowflakes of a long sock and the falling tinkle of buckshot. Not a scracth she screeched, yelping back shots, not a scratch.

I didn't want to go back inside but Roy insisted he buy me some Jack. We got into how most people before they get too drunk are lucky to have more than two stories to tell, and he promised me, right then and there, no matter what, if he outlived me, he would go to my funeral. Gave me a card that he scrambled some fuzzy inkling of who he was. Like in the future, dying, I'd be like "oh, shit, better call what's his name, Roy, and tell him so he can get here before they plant me. I mean, Roy said over and over again as the shots lined up, you never know who you're gonna have to save in this shit hole paradise. I can't remember what the two stories were, The Wizard says that's because I always tell them when I get drunk, and honestly, it's been years. Years. Like, granpa used to say, it barely happened.

^^ Good stories and tellers form the heart of a welcoming saloon.

Happy solstice everyone!

:sun:

I'll make a confession. I once was a "ringer", highly active in the online group that grew up in anticipation of Jackson's trilogy. I even won a few a Tolkien trivia contests in my day, though I can't seem to spell his name correctly this morning. I credit my younger aspects for the fascination, and it looks as if there is a bit of new fun to come.

some favs include...

Lenaia
(and this one is just here because it's interesting... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Day (which reminded me, we still are owed some Lost Days back) (and this ties into Tax day being April 6th (moved only slightly in the US))

Best wishes to you and your kith and kin! Happy solstice season! The sun will be born anew, to regain his strength with each day that passes!

In honour of which we present this;

And this;

ps It seems clear to me that when Ian Anderson sings and dances, he is spontaneously evoking certain mudras. Watch him carefully. The piercing eye itself is a mudra of sorts. Most likely it is the krishna consciousness working through and within him.

pps The hobbit! Oh my beloved! "It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to." Well, quite. That is why you need perfect balance on the path.

I'm going to expand the juice and tea bar in here and shrink the spirit collection a bit, and I'd like some advice. I had surgeries last year, gallbladder, which is very common, but I'm now in that small percentage who experience a kind of post removal syndrome. I've got biliary issues, I tell you, although it's inconclusive just exactly what they are yet. In the meantime however, all of my favorite vices are forbidden again, no cookies, no ice cream, no beer, no wine. I can't smoke. Does anyone know of any vices they can recommend that won't damage my innards? I so enjoy the occasional break with reality, goddammit.

And don't suggest men, that is the opposite of a break from reality, but if you're sentimental, or even better, a romantic history buff you might enjoy these:

http://www.historyhappenshere.org/archives/category/love-letters

The Missouri History Museum Archives has many collections that provide firsthand accounts of the Civil War. One such collection is the James E. Love Papers. James enlisted with a Union regiment in St. Louis in May 1861. When his regiment left St. Louis in June 1861, James started writing letters home to his fiancée, Eliza Mary “Molly” Wilson. James continued to write these letters throughout his entire Civil War service. We believe this collection is unique because it documents not only one man’s experiences during the war, but also the great love story of James and Molly.

Oh dear, does this mean I'm spreading war propaganda?

I'm having trouble framing berries & yogurt as a vice, but I replaced my bedtime snack of ice cream, which was making me feel all thuddy the next morning, with some good chilled berries stirred up with yogurt.

I'll try to think of something more exciting.... :bigsmile

Yes, Willow, you are now a War Whore. Spielberg would be proud.

I'm sort of in the same boat. I can't remember the last time I wanted to get drunk as much as I have the last 2 weeks or so. Alas for various reasons I can't partake anymore (which is actially fine, I did enough in my youth to more than make up for it.

Can't smoke any more either. There's not much left as far as escaping from reality.

Wish I had some recommendations, I'd do them myself.

Hello all my dear friends.

I hope and pray you and your families are well.

I, my friends, am in a bit of a fix.

The psychiatrist will not accept that I am healthy in mind and body.

They want me to take anti psychotics.

They told me today that if I continue to refuse to take the drugs (which have a list of side-effects as long as your arm), they will proceed to a review in order to get me committed and hospitalised.

My life long worst fear is of being committed.

It is my room 101.

I will need faith to see me through this.

And I will need a lot of help.

I don't know the law that well in the UK.

Although I loved Marshall Law the comic.

I am asking if any of my friends can help me in any way, perhaps with regard to information about the UK legal situation, or even with a personal note of love or sympathy.

I am finding this very difficult.

I have changed recently. I became a healthier, more whole, better integrated person in mind and body, but she somehow cannot believe that. I daresay she finds it more convenient to believe the dumb expert.

Oh yeah, I'll have a cup of tea too.

I'm not exactly depressed, but I am not terribly happy about it.

I think I will have to get some good legal advice.

But really I would like to speak with two personal heroes of mine, Jane McGonigal and Grant Morrison. I had a kathmandu revelation and became superbetter, you see.

I am guessing they might be the only folk who might truly understand and be able to help. I guess I am hoping for a miracle.

on edit: Please don't respond here, but rather pm me or email me. Thanks in advance.

God bless you all my friends. I know not how this came to be. I am not sure what to do.

Maybe I should just take their stupid drugs. I have a funny feeling they won't really effect me anyway.

Hello, everyone. Happy New Year. A mineral water for me, and some ancient Welsh ecstasy:

"Running Man Craze Hits Cardiff Nightclubs." - Maybe this should be in the Comedy thread, but I always loved dancing to it. The whole thing is so daft, but the girls are just irresistible, all of 'em. Plus it samples Kate Bush. I just know that something good is gonna happen.

I always imagine the real-life Saloon to be very like this place, which is very like the first pub I ever had a drink in.

It's just me.

I'll have to learn the dance moves from Mac's video.

Kate Bush?

I went running up that hill.

I won't say I had no problems.

I watched your clip, Willow. They were dissing Yoda.

Don't dare diss my ultimate role model.

Star Wars is Joe Campbell's sci fi fantasy myth.

From whom did Yoda learn the ways of the force?

It was the Ancient Giants under the Sun.

That's who.

Er, yeah, I'll have a cup of tea thanks.

Any chance of a biccie? How about some nice cake? Sugar puffs?
