another fave scene was from 'the Good, the Bad and the Ugly". couldnt find it on youtube, but it was the scene when cavalry troop approaches, covered with dust. Tuco starts shouting "Hooray for the Confederacy! Hooray for general Lee!" then the leader of the cavalry dusts off his sleeve to reveal a Yankee uniform. :d

Yes!

Actually, almost every scene from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly could be in this thread.

Including this one.

Love those old Eastwood Westerns...

I'm sure I posted these clips somewhere deep within this thread:

Gory, so be warned.

It's not really as much a favorite as it is one of the relatively few examples of Scorcese's artistry that went right through me and stayed there the instant I saw it.

Along with the equally undiminished wish that he hadn't added the voice-over. That would have been awesome. Oh, well. They can't all be everybody's genius, I guess.

The Pink Cadillac zoom that opens that scene is the most effective marriage of image and music ever.

After this, of course...

^^^ Well, maybe after this one?

On such short notice, I've scanned my mental short list of the short list of movies I've actually seen (that were produced in color), and the only movie I could think of, in which the orchestra and voice and lyrics and nature sounds so matched the grandness of the opening action, would be The Lion King. That prologue was mesmerizing, back then. I first saw it on the big screen, and the prominence of all those animals plus the music were cause for a slight race of heart beats, I betcha.

:sun:

If I could remember exactly what I posted and didn't post to the little cinematic-use-of-music thing we had going on in the regular what-are-you-listening-to thread some time ago, I might have more entries to add.

For me, I think it's really the I-can't-believe-I'm-hearing-any-part-of-"Layla"(-of-all-songs)-with-fresh-ears that just puts the movie-making into a whole other dimension and takes me along with it.

Because, you know. That isn't even possible when you've actually never heard it before.
