Liberty, Ohio, is a quiet little community, except for one thing -- the scream. Jamie Young told Hamrick she heard it while she and her husband were walking one evening. “It scared me. I didn’t want to finish my walk,” Young said. But instead of running into her house, she said she recorded the noise and sent a tape to the local newspaper. With a sensitive microphone and some special ghost-hunting goggles, Hamrick went hunting for the haunting sounds, traipsing boldly into the most likely spots -- from a graveyard to an old church where flea market dealer Walt Wilson sells some truly frightening things. But he’s not worried. “I don’t think it’s going to wind up grabbing any of us and running off with us,” Wilson said. Residents have no shortage of ideas about what’s making the sound, from cats to owls to something even scarier. Townspeople said they called in an animal expert, who told them the noise didn’t come from an animal. So for now, the scream remains a mystery.

I heard that scream played on the radio the other day (can't remember which station) - it really is very bizarre, but it does sound like the creature is in some form of pain or distress (I'm purely going on intuition with that). I wonder what others' impression is?

"I wonder what others' impression is?" *** I heard a very bizarre, scary scream late one night, penetrating and piercing, of one-or-two second duration, as a young lad on golf-course watering-duty -- Between sets, about 1 or 2 am, I was in the equipment-shop barn drinking coffee when I heard a blood-curdling scream -- probably the only real blood-curdling scream I've ever heard, or remember hearing. It shook me up so bad, I thought somebody was being murdered. I called the police dept., and they dispatched a sherriff or State Hiway patrolman, who dutifully took my description and filed a report -- but he explained it was probably a rabbit getting killed by a lynx, fox, bobcat, or a large hunting-bird like an owl, hawk or eagle. I was skeptical -- but no murder or assault reports were reported in the following days, not that I really expected any -- chances of my hearing somebody getting killed in the farm-country area where the golf-course was, on reflection, pretty slim. So, from what I've learned since -- a rabbit in distress can sound amazingly like what one expects a human being assaulted would sound like. Without anything else to go on,that's what I think it might have been. Funny no one suggested it yet. If I were to hear something similiar now, I'd probably ignore it. For that reason, I'm not sure I HAVEN'T heard something like it and blew it off as not important. Starman

The only time I ever heard something similar was when I was in the hospital many years ago, and heard a very bizarre screaming. I was told it was someone who was just coming out of surgery and full anaesthesia. I guess since we'll never find out, it will have to be filed under 'bizarre'. btw Starman, your post in reaction to the Utah rave was fantastic! I read it to my activist friend and it ignited us both! Your wording was accurate, passionate, angry and brilliantly formulated. Thank you !

In 1980 my friend and I were building a small cabin in the coast range of Oregon, 26 miles up the Coos river from the ocean and into a remote roadless area beyond that. One night we were sitting by the campfire reading old westerns by kerosene lamplight. We were armed, and had dogs with us, and it was just getting dark. From the ridgetop above us we heard the most blood-curdleing scream I have ever heard in my entire life. It sounded exactly like a woman's scream, like she was being killed in some horrible way. It was very, very loud. We grabbed our rifles and the dogs started barking. There was only one person that knew where we were, my friends cousin, and we knew he wasn't up on the mountain, he was in town. We tried to reason what the scream was. I have killed rabbits and heard their squeaky death cry. I have seen bobcats. This was no cougar either. It wasn't a screech or whispy cat growl. This was a freaky scream, and not just one blast, it was a quick series of gaspy loud frantic screams. Well, we figured that there was nothing we could do about it, we knew it couldn't be a human. It was getting dark and the last thing we were going to do is climb the ridge and investigate. We had the dogs to alert us if anything stalked our camp, and we kept the guns handy. Years later I told the story to the guy at the Western Bigfoot Society in Portland. He got very excited and got out some detailed maps and had me mark the spot . I'll never know what it was. All I can say is it sounded like a woman who was being horribly killed. It just didn't sound like a cougar at all. Needless to say, We were always armed.

First I have to say that was about the most ridiculous "news report" I have ever seen. I was ready to reach through my monitor and strangle that reporter 15 seconds into the segment. It was difficult to really hear the scream well, too. What I would like to know, it seems that this scream has been heard frequently - it wasn't just a one time thing. How long has this been going on and how frequently? Is it heard in many locations, or in one area of town?

Here's a link to an incident in Morehead Kentucky from November 2003. I remember hearing about it at the time. has always disturbed me. A UFO was sighted by at least 5 witnesses, desperate and blood-curdling sceams were heard in the night... the distressed female voice crying "Help me, oh God, help me!" from the same location where the UFO descended only moments earlier...or perhaps at the same time. <a href="http://home.fuse.net/ufo/moreheadindex.html" target="top">Morehead index</a> "There was like a vacuum of silence while we watched this," Dr. Davis said, "it was like everything was real quiet, at a standstill and then when it became a red color, everything went crazy." Dr. Davis said that animals in the area suddenly erupted in a frenzy. His neighbors dog was barking crazily and his German Shepherd dog tried to break its chain." "Right after that my 2-sons went back outside and heard the screaming. It was a female voice. They got in the car and within minutes had called from their cell phone to say that they had been hearing screaming sounds in the field where this thing came down," he said. "Approximately 20-minutes after the UFO sighting the police were at my door, there were about 20 officers and a rescue squad over in the field where I spotted the UFO. A lot of strange stuff seemed to be going on around Morehead. Regarding investigating officers: "They were also asked about the report of a 'baby' seen in the area and, referring to their logs, said that there was an unusual report from a female motorist from Indiana on Thanksgiving morning. The motorist, traveling near Morehead, had called around 4:00 a.m. to report a 3-year old baby wearing only a diaper walking near the roadside near Route 60. The motorist did not stop to help but only continued on, calling from a location miles away. The police responded but found no baby, and no baby was reported missing. When asked for any other reports of unusual interest, we were told that months earlier, persons had complained of a helicopter or airplane crash in the county when no wreckage could be found, and a separate report from Flemingsburg, KY almost 6-months earlier of a woman found in a field with amnesia." Can you imagine, seeing a baby in diapers near the roadside in the middle of the night, and not stopping to provide assistance? Ok - it is 2:30 a.m. and I can't sleep because of what sounds like a dog howling - actually several now. It has been going on for nearly 30 minutes and it's very creepy! And having read all this stuff this evening has not helped! Maybe we should set up different forums for day-time and night-time reading. Between this thread and the thread with video of the creepy flying humanoid figures - I'll be up all night! And my ghost is acting up again.

about 5 years ago i was at my grandparents' cabin in the pocono mountains in PA with a bunch of friends. it's really in the middle of nowhere- no running water, dirt road, only a few cabins around a small lake, and it was in the middle January when no one is up there (it's not really near skiing places). anyway, we all went to bed around 1-2am and sometime after this i heard the most terrifying sound i've ever heard. it sounded like some animal was in the worst pain you could imagine, but i could not think of what kind of animal could make that noise, and it was SO loud. i have no idea why, but for some reason the image of the predator, from the Ahnuld movie came into my head and has stuck ever since. i woke my girlfriend in bed next to me, but she didn't hear it, and no one else had heard it either. i got very little sleep that night.
